• Verified traveler (2/5): Don't bother - Concrete cell, bedding smelt strongly of wet dog. I threw it off overnight because of the smell, however the next day while i was out they threw the bedding back onto my unmade bed so it it was full of the dog smell AND all the dirt and rubbish off the floor. They don't bother making beds or changing sheets in the week i was there, so my bed was full of dirt for the rest of the stay. Wifi unuseable, power points inaccessible and the airconditioning is in the bathroom (noisy and ineffective). They obviously came into my room each day to snoop around and turn off lights etc. bed not made, towels not changed, toilet paper not replenished and rubbish not emptied once in a whole week. Staff were quite rude when i checked in as it was apparently around dinner time and she wasn't very happy with the interruption. My room was close to their house and their children start up pretty early in the morning, yelling and screaming. Very disappointing accommodation. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

I love that the rooms had a few little extras like an indoor clothesline (helpful for drying swimmers and towels) and the kitchenette was sufficient to be able to have some meals at the room.

• Peter (8/5): Great for an overnight stay OR longer. - The motel is rather dated BUT the tariff and the closeness to where we had to be the next day overcame that. The bed was comfortable and the shower and toilet were in a spacious area off the bedroom. The room was spotless and the lady in Reception was friendly and booked us in with no delays. The lady in Reception said that they had only been running the Motel for about 2 weeks. I am sure that the rooms will have a makeover. We were a bit worried about traffic noise as it is on a main road but there was virtually no noise at all.

• Verified traveler (2/5): Sunburst Motel has passed its use by date! - Revolting and likely the most patronising set of notes, rules and signs ever encountered at a motel anywhere in the world. Most adults understand conservation and we did not appreciate the never ending reminders of what to do and what not to do. Barely fitted with essentials, the bedspreads and blanket and pillows were vile and on a cold winter's night if we wanted a doona, we had to pay extra. Even if we ran out of toile paper there was a charge. Next time I'd rather stay in my car.

However having said that, the room was very clean and beds were comfortable and close to supermarkets, HarbourTown complex (shops, cinemas, doctors, dentists etc) and Southport. The owner/s was very pleasant and accommodating.

The manager was friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome. Rooms are basic but comfortable and the free wifi was great. The location of this motel means a car will be much easier to get around as it isn't walking distance to the beach or many restaurants but great access to all of the Gold Coast and near pacific motorway. Would recommend this motel for families with older kids.
• kate (2/5): Wouldn't recommend it to anyone - Cockroaches in room behind fridge, under beds, in cupboard, under the jug and in their cups provided poor excuse from manger was they must have flown in, there were way to many adults and baby roaches to be fly ins. There was mold in bathroom, couldn't walk beside beds as they had 4 crammed beside each other along 1 wall, terrible wet dog smell at entry to room. Managers dog wouldn't let us in office just stood at the door and barked till they removed it from office terrified my children, guests dogs barked through the night.
• Jennifer (6/5): Motel is clean and the bed is good. - This motel is old but clean. The bed was very comfortable. There were lots of prickles in the lawn around the pool. It is old but the owners try very hard to keep it clean and tidy.

• Craigie Gibb (8/5): Comfy lodgings for a night out at the tavern ... - Myself and 3 mates, travelled down from Brisbane for a night out at the Runaway Bay Tavern. Shared a room at the Sunburst Motel so we could enjoy a drink. Only a short cab ride from the venue. Comfy lodgings for the 4 of us together and good value for money. If you want 5 star luxury, get a high rise and pay double the price ........ We enjoyed our stay, had a BBQ in the motel grounds beside the pool, then strutted out for a night at the Tavern watching local Aussie legend rock group, The "Radiators" ........ Don't forget them !! We will be back to do this blokes bonding thing again .....

• Slackie (6/5): Great budget motel in prime location - Needed a cheap place to stay for just one night before our other booked accommodation. This is a clean, friendly, CHEAP motel. HarbourTown is just down the road one way and SeaWorld about 5 minutes the other way. Rooms are pretty small and two adults and two kids squeezed into one of their family units... but remember this is a budget motel. The fridge, tv, shower, toilet, etc all worked as expected and it was clean, if a little dated. On a main road but we weren't bothered by traffic noise after about 8-9pm. What more could you want??
