Guest Reviews
- Robert (9/5): Idyllic Blue Mountains stay, period features combined with modern conveniences - Great peaceful location with beautiful outlook from the living area and adjoining deck (complete with bbq). Kitchen has everything you need. Feels like stepping back in time without sacrificing the creature comforts. A bit of maintenance in places wouldn’t go astray. My partner thought the bed in the main bedroom could have been more comfortable. Shower setup (shower over freestanding tub with curtains) made it tricky to keep the bathroom floor dry.
- Scott (7/5): Lovely stay - Comfortable bed. Lovely views. Clean home.
- Gerry (7/5): Old world atmosphere that needs so maintenance. - Good location, nice and clean. Decking timbers a potential hazard and rotting Timbers on window frames.
- Alison (9/5): - The view was lovely, the breeze through the house was perfect on hot days, I could have my dog with us, the decor was interesting and added appeal, and it was close to the train, buses, shops and cafes.
- Ellie (10/5): Stunning and serene stay. Loved it - Stunning setting, unique house, well equips with everything you could need Nothing at all
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Jacqueline (10/5): - The vintage style, the large terrace, the view, the fully equiped kitchen, confortable bed, very clean, bathroom amenities, The Black old sofa, the lack of handle in the shower
- VIVIENNE (10/5): Beautiful central heritage accommodation - Beautiful heritage accommodation in the centre of Katoomba. So many features and thoughtful touches in the house. Very comfortable, quiet and spacious. Attentive and responsive hosts, who also kindly allowed an early check in. Everything was wonderful.
- Kenjie (8/5): It was a great little place - it was clean and quaint and bags of character - It was quaint and lovely big windows out the back! Location to main shops was fab. Could possibly replace one of the couch (black) for more comfort
- Tracey (7/5): Great location- beds so uncomfortable. - Great location & Miner's hut of historical significance. Huge deck at back. Fence out front was at a 45° angle. Beds were so uncomfortable & hard.
- Adam (1/5): Grotty - It was rustic 30 years ago now it’s just completely run down It’s very run down dusty and dirty It needs a complete referb or a massive price reduction
There’s a parody wall hanging talking about it being a wonderful mountain stay 30 years ago
- Jodie (7/5): Great location and cosy vibes - Location was excellent
Loved the interior decorating and the big verandah The beds were a little too hard for our liking.
The furniture was a little run down and could do with replacing the futon bed
- Melita (9/5): Lovey cozy home. Good value for a family. - The home was very clean. Care and love has been put into this old country style home. All comforts of home. Fireplace. Lovely big windows in living area.g9od music system. Close to shops. Shower over bath. Not great for someone who needs a hip replacement. No parking at the house. Had to park one street away which was a concern.

- Peiyan (9/5): A scenic stay in the Blue Mountains - The view during the day and the night was wonderful. We liked having the verandah area where we could have our meals and enjoy the scenery. The house was spacious, th kitchen was well equipped with a good selection of teas. We enjoyed having the wood fireplace. The location was also very near the center with many food and supermarket options nearby. The staff were very responsive as well. The lack of central heating, while understandable because it is an old house, took a bit of getting use to because it meant that we were coming home to a cold house after the day's excursions. The electric heating for the beds were much appreciated as we got acclimated to the weather.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wade (9/5): Superb -
- Desiree (8/5): Very good -
- Karin (7/5): Good - Great location Stayed at same place about 5 years ago. The place is tired and needs some general maintenance. The bed in the second bedroom very noisy and mattress hard and uncomfortable
- Kimberley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (7/5): A great location to enjoy Katoomba, terrific view, and a pleasant house with a 1920's atmosphere. - Entry code was very easy and worked!! The view from the rear deck is terrific. It was great to be in the heart of Katoomba, within short walking distance to all shops, cafes, restaurants and transport if required. The house has a real 1920's atmosphere with appropriate decor. It rained for 5 days solidly during our stay which dampened our enjoyment. Water leaked into some windows and the back door (it is a 1920's house needing some maintenance). Whilst the bathroom is historically accurate, it does not have a separate shower (shower is over the large bath).
- Nick (10/5): Not your ordinary holiday house - This is an extraordinary old house with everything in there being authentic/genuine (not fake/replica vintage style or soulless ikea furniture ) renovated for modern lifestyle, nice, clean and comfortable with stunning view, located in a quiet neighbourhood that is only 2/3 min walk to Katoomba's main street, the host was also a pleasure to communicate with ... can't wait to stay there in winter that we had to go back home
- Mick (7/5): Well located but very shoddy-needs loads of maintenance, both minor and major - Great outlook and ambience on rear deck. Good fridge. Proximity to town. Total lack of maintenance-dirty tables. Ramshackle entry and dangerous front verandah. Nightmare tv - Almost impossible to use. No info on locating the property and parking. Had to drive around the block twice and then get out of car to locate the property. Useless wood for fire. Shower leaked badly-shower felt unsafe, nothing to hang on to or lean on. Kitchen tap spout needs serious attention
- Monika (9/5): Superb - The house was very cosy and had every amenity imaginable. It was quite warm even with a chilly weather change. The location is great. Very comfortable beds. There was no parking at the property. We parked about 150 m away at the nearest cross street.
- Emily (10/5): Lovely stay with a good view - Beautiful house with great beds and bedding options. Made to feel like a home with great decoration and comforts. Had a lovely family weekend and do hope a chance to return in the future. Parking not at the property is interesting but was very manageable on the nearby street.
- Janette (7/5): Good -
- Joanne (3/5): If the owners spent $3000 it would be worth the mone - Very quaint. Had a nice charm to it. Liked the decorations.Well positioned near the town. Loved the” tree house” feel. Lovely views. The house has “good bones” Pics were old, from when it was purchased. Front gate was hanging off it hinges, Everything was rundown. One couch was so uncomfortable!! Mattresses, electric blankets (looked over10years old) all need to be replaced. TV didn’t work notified owner. No response.
- Wouter (9/5): Surprisingly fun - Katoomba is a great place to visit. We were bit unlucky with wheater rain and fog. But where still able to hike the entire day. The house has a great location and everything you need. It is time for some renovation. Woodwork had its best time.
- Sara (5/5): Passable - Beautiful house with a great view in good location in Katoomba. There were a smell of mold and it felt like there were moisture in the house. We had to wash all our clothes to get away the smell after we left the accommodation.
- Amanda (7/5): Very comfortable and great location. - The location was perfect and the beds and kitchen facilities were great. The bathroom needs some work with lots of water ending up on the floor from the shower / bath. This was complicated by the fact there were no laundry facilities. Glad we weren't there in winter or we would have struggled to get towels dry. These are the only small problems we had. Location was brilliant, close to everything but quiet and everything else was really comfortable. Thanks The bathroom needs some work with lots of water ending up on the floor from the shower / bath. This was complicated by the fact there were no laundry facilities. Glad we weren't there in winter or we would have struggled to get towels dry.
- Michael (9/5): A place for everything and everything in its place, very easy, very cosy - Very comfortable and homely .
Everything was as described , no surprises which was great.
We could find what we needed , when we needed it. The wifi worked well for our personal tech, but the tv was beyond frustrating with the lag in response times.
We think the bath/ shower detracts from the overall appeal of Sidney’s.
Always cautious about slipping and it is very clostrophobic with the curtain. However the rest of the bathroom was fine.
- Chris (7/5): We had an enjoyable stay despite the rainy weather - N/A The photos used were taken some time ago. The inside was quite dated, the cooker needs replacing one of the electric rings has rusted through.
Would benefit from an exterior hand rail, steep steps in get to the front door. Garden gate and fence showing signs of rotting through maybe replace/repair
Lots of 'stuff' in the cottage that isn't needed ie a piano that doesn't play
No storage for clothes in the smaller bedroom
Being asked to pay additional insurance on the day of our stay before we could be given the key code
- Lori (10/5): A Charming hide away where you will want to stay longer! - So very charming and well thought out. We loved all of the windows and ‘hidden away’ feel. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. One of the couches (futon) is very worn and is not very comfortable to sleep on. But otherwise we loved it.
- Rickard (8/5): Overall I did really like the property and was only a few things to niggle at - The house was very homely and the beds were comfortable. The view was great and lots of birdlife around. Only a short walk from town and the street parking was good as not many cars and so always a space available. There was plenty of toiletries available, however not enough toilet paper left for four adults for four days. The cooker had rusted through and so the hob falls through and no good for cooking on. For the price of the property I did think firewood could be provided, plus the coffee pods had not been restocked so we ended up buying our own, something for the price I did think would be included. Also not enough toilet paper provided. The house could be a little better maintained as the roof was full of pine needles which made the guttering overflow over the entrance way. Also the deck is quite rotten so watching your footsteps is advised! Also being asked for a security deposit of quite an unreasonable amount or to have a non refundable amount paid which I opted for as paying $400 for a deposit which would not be returned until a week after my stay seemed quite excessive. I have never been asked this from a booking.com property and also concerned me as there were faults with the property due to lack of maintentance which I worried we would be blamed for e.g the cooker being rusted through.
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb -
- Rea (7/5): Dissapointrd as beautiful views from the balcony but not a safe place to stay - Breakfast wasnt invluded Stairs to the front door vefy unsafe and thete was no handrail was difficult to go down and also up need a stair rail to enable people to arrive and leave safe. We were over 65 and had trouble. Their was moss on the steps The house wAs nice, smelt a little damp but we tended to stay out all day and come back at night to avoid steps. Wont book this property again because of the entry and our safety concerns surely council would not approve the entry to the house.
- Sergio (8/5): Very good -
- Ari (8/5): Perfect getaway - Private and charming
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (10/5): Great cosy cottage vibes with a great location! - Great location and very fitting for the cold weather we had!
We had just flown from Cairns and the drop in temperature was made better by the cosy cottage vibes here! We loved the kitchen and facilities available and also being able to use the fire added to the cosy ambience! The beds also had heated blankets which were amazing! It is big and old which means if you feel the cold like me you will want some extra layers/slippers etc but I have no complaints about the property itself!
- Rachele (9/5): Great place to stay as a home away from home and walking distance to everywhere. - Location, all the creature comforts of home and the fantastic view! The 2nd bedroom’s bed frame is too big for the room as you have to squeeze sideways in and out to get into bed near the window and duck so you dont hit the shelf on the wall.
- June (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carol (9/5): Retreat was the best name for this beautiful cottage .Location outstanding beds comfy - Easy access, with fi good, location wonderful full of charm and very cosy Stepping into the bath was tricky for our age
- Mat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Himanshu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Russell (8/5): Very good -
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location and very comfortable house. Fantastic open plan lounge and kitchen area which opens onto a large balcony. Beds were really comfortable. A pair of kookaburra’s were making a nest in a tree in the backyard during our stay which was a nice bonus!
- Jake (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nikki (8/5): We had a wonderful time in Sidney’s retreat, it was in a great location, with great views and a wonderful homely feel. W - Wonderful rustic home in an excellent location. Great verandah with native trees and birds to enjoy. Fireplace was well equipped and furniture homely. Off street parking but not too far away.
- Merkley (9/5): Convenient, comfortable house, great for a family. - Great location, really comfortable house, great size for our family. Everything had been thought of to make for a comfortable stay. We had to purchase wood for the fire - an option to have it provided for a charge would be great.
- Terry (10/5): Character filled cottage in the heart of Katoomba - Had great character, nicely decorated,
log fire, well equiped kitchen
Central location in Katoomba, but quiet.
Good communication from the host
- Good (8/5): Very good - Location and heating. Not really big enough for 5 adults. Good for 4.
- Rachel (8/5): Very good - Very cosy vibe, great view and location to town! Wasn’t that accessible with a pram given stairs and no parking. Only oil heaters in each room so took a while to warm the place up.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Hua (9/5): Superb -
- Kevin (10/5): perfect in every way -
- Belinda (9/5): Highly recommend - The beds felt like a comfy cloud, reasonably quite location, the extras including DVDs, games and coffee pods were very welcoming. Would have been ideal if the TV had easy access to regular TV channels.
- David (8/5): Very peaceful and worthwhile - Location was excellent and was well equipped, Floor boards very creaky.
- Karl (9/5): very comfortable and enjoyable - location, setting, comfort, balcony view TV was not great. could not get the DVD player to connect
- Gareth (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Kam (10/5): Exceptional - Stayed here for the Ultra Trail running event and the property was perfect. Nice cabin feel, quiet, large bedrooms, large bathroom, beautiful open plan out to the alfresco area, sufficient gas heating to stay warm throughout, all essentials supplied for a short stay, excellent wifi coverage, and easy walking distance to the main town centre. Couldn't have asked for more. Shame I couldn't stay the extra night for recovery after the event, but lesson learnt, I'll book way in advance for next year's run. =) Highly recommend Sidney's Retreat. Thanks for a lovely stay.
- Lilie (9/5): Superb - Very clean and comfortable house with nice kitchen facilities. Jenny is very helpful too
- Lisa (10/5): perfect place to stay for first time in Blue Mountains - Great location, nice country vibes TV hard to use
- Bianca (9/5): Superb -
- Ronald (10/5): Home in the mountains - Wonderful stay here @ Sidneys Retreat warm & cosy with a touch of history. Everything is within walking distance. Would have given an extra star if it had it's own driveway for our car to park in but there are plenty of safe parking on the surrounding streets. Will be our first choice to stay in the future for sure
- Nicole (8/5): Very good -
