Guest Reviews
- Karla Iveth (8/5): - The room and facilities were cleaned and comfortable. The activities were fun and entertaining. There was a lot of seaweed, I know this is hard to control, and they were really trying to clean it.
It was a little disappointing that they offered different restaurants with resevervation, but they were opening only one at a time, and because I stayed only 3 nights I was not allowed to make a reservation and therefore eating there. It sucks because I didnt know I would not be able to make the reservation. I was really looking forward to eating more mexican food and the international buffette didnt have enough, especially because they only allowed me to go to the small buffette.

Alte Zimmer!
- Emma (8/5): - The staff were amazing especially Viviana she was amazing and helped us with everything. Even checked in on us everyday! This resort was very good, would definitely book again.
- Svetlana (10/5): Nice place for family vacation - People who are working there. We like everything.
- Pierre-Elouan (9/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): Incredible value for money and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend. - - Great value for money
- our room was incredible and modern. I was told that the older rooms at the hotel are currently being upgraded in line with room we had.
- the buffet and à la carte restaurant food was very good for the price point
- the beach, although small, was clean and beautiful
- I was impressed with the production quality of the theatre shows.
- there was no sales tactics with regards to timeshares etc
- cocktails were strong and tasty, the beach
- there are lively bars and restaurants outside the hotel which are within walking distance if you want a change of scenery
- friendly, helpful staff Our mini fridge was only restocked twice during a five day stay, this was after leaving a note to reception. Also, for the majority of the holiday the buffet was great however one meal I was served chilaquiles which had raw pork. Only discovered this after taking a bite and when raising it with the manager (so that the item would be removed from the service and not get people sick) I was gaslighted, with the manager telling me it was cooked and was redder than usual because it was ‘Mexican pork’.

- Silvia (6/5): -
- Rohit (1/5): If you are looking for a blah stay, chose this place - Nothing, this is cheap no frills property with water down drinks and local liquor. The food options are limited Water downed drinks
Limited food options
Nothing great about this place
- Abigail (7/5): - Location of room to beach and pool A few tired things in the room
- Delsey (8/5): - The food was great. The pool area was amazing. The kids classes were great The room itself - it was not modern at all and not bright. The bathroom is very outdated and so is the room itself
- Tamara (9/5): - Beautiful and well kept. Nice snorkeling off the beach.
- YOLANDA MARIA (10/5): Para descansar en el mar - El grupo de bailarines son super buenos
- Danielle (9/5): - The staff was amazing and the food was good. The buffet La Brisa had great options. The rooms were also upgraded. There are limited power outlets in the rooms to plug up phones or electronics. Near the bed it's one plug and USB plugs. Under the TV on the opposite side of room is another plug and USB slots. But overall the room is great.
- Alethia (8/5): -
- Mayra (2/5): Bad food, ok rooms, not nice beach - New rooms and cool pools Food was really bad ! Not recommended at all not even the a la carte restaurants.
They need to get better since this does not show the real Mexican kitchens
- Ramnarace (6/5): - Some of the stuff are very nice and friendly while the one in management are very rude and obnoxious. They serve the same food everyday for breakfast lunch and dinner. No different selection unless you go to the specialty restaurant which you have to pay for.
- Leo (8/5): -
- Robert (4/5): - Food options were horrible. Electricity went out multiple times on multiple days.
- Lindsey (10/5): - Great property for a great price
- Martin (9/5): -
- lori (8/5): - Nice staff beach not great
- Robert (8/5): - FUN PLACE TO STAY
- Emilee (2/5): - Overall the stay was terrible. You don’t have access to all the restaurants on the resort. Pools close at 6pm. The swim up bars close at 7. The whole resort shuts down at midnight. So drinking and late night food isn’t an option. The buffet food isn’t good. They ran out of plates and also cannot seat everyone. Restaurants wouldn’t allow us to make reservations but also wouldn’t seat us when we tried to walk in. Drinks aren’t strong. The liquor is cheap liquor. The pool water is hot that it’s not even enjoyable. The front desk made us wait in a 30min line to check out.
We paid for an ocean front view and our view was the back of a trash can and building. 90% of the view was blocked and 10% was the ocean. The ocean is nasty rocky. There’s no cabanas to sit on or even try to enjoy the beaches. The beach is dirty. Barrels in the water. I’ve stayed at several resorts all over Mexico and this is by far the worst one. I wouldn’t go back if you paid me. The saying “you get what you pay for” doesn’t even apply here. It’s a cheaper stay but still not worth it.
- Sebnem (6/5): - It’s basic facilities. They have many activities that’s a great thing. Since we were there in summer time, ocean was full of seaweed and not possible to swim or enjoy. Rooms need some improvement. Also diningroom was so hot and there was no AC working. It’s an ok place to stay in this price range.
- Annel (10/5): - It was a great experience, thank you
- Yuri (6/5): - The resort was good but could have been better if we could have used the other restaurants on site. Next time I would definitely book the Catalonia Maya Rivera. The staff, pool swim up bar, theater, and lounges were fantastic! The only down sides were the stinky smell from the seaweed (which was not the resorts fault) and the rooms were very out dated. We could not utilize the other restaurants because we could not get reservations, except the buffet which was not too bad since the food was ok and was different every night. Also no room service, will not stock your mini fridge with anything except water.
- Mouna (9/5): Superb -
- Castillo (6/5): Need updated food and room - All the staff was friendly and really attentive. Thats was a plus That we were told that the restaurant on location was for us to attend and when we arrived they said it was only for Rivera Maya and they had the same menu every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner . The rooms had a few damage doors that could be fixed and the ac units could be fixed the lowest our room got during the night was 70°
- Mark (10/5): - They staff was friendly and helpful the whole time. Little disappointed that after i upgraded that i wasn't able to book dining reservations until a day or 2 being there, but it was fixed. The wait staff everywhere was welcoming and courteous. Will definitely be back.
- Sara (6/5): - The resort was overall nice and good. However, for the price we paid for, nothing was included. we had to change rooms 2 times, and that took a lot out of our time.
staff were friendly for the most part. The manager at the Buffet was really rude and demanding.
Swimming pools were ok, not too clean.
- israel (8/5): - friendly staff and safe area
- Elias (10/5): - Interesting beach areas
- Jash (2/5): - Was not good experience at all. If you are going with low expectations and by paying high charges sure no worries but worst Catalonia experience ever ruined Vacation. Not all the information on Expedia is correct. Will recommend not too book it but still if you want to book it through Hotel Website as per their guest service agent. I hope I can at-list save one person vacation its worth while.
- Francesco (10/5): - Oscar at pool bar MVP
- Carmen G (10/5): - Excellent service! Friendly, helpful staff.
- Shyanne (6/5): - Not clear on what is included in your package. The rooms are mediocre at best. The food is not great at all and not helpful with gluten free accommodations.
- Tiana Zefreen (8/5): - Amazing
- Wei (8/5): - The property has nice outdoor facilities but the rooms do look dated. The staffs are courteous and the entertainment team is excellent.
The food at the a la carte restaurants is lackluster. Among them the Italian is better than the rest. The American is worse than the buffet.
The weird rule that one has to pay 30 USD if missing a beach towel is off putting. Obviously, no one would steal a used towel. The only reason a towel is missing is that someone accidentally grabbed someone else’s by mistake. The resort should just issue another instead of charging the guest.
- Anahi (10/5): - Third time visiting. Love coming here. Looking forward to coming back.
- Jolene (10/5): - Really loved the location of this resort. Our room was old, had a few "patches" on issues, but we didn’t mind.
Really love the location and size of this resort.
Being a family resort, I found the night entertainment to be too late. Myself and my teens would go to the sportsbar, shoot some pool and head to bed before the shows even started. Aside from the beach show. We were there for everything else. Not the shows. So not disappointed.
Will definitely be back.
- Kimberly (6/5): It was ok.enjoyed our time but was not the same as when we purchased - Convenient Room was old and run down. The amenities that we were to have in room was not supplied
- Matthew (10/5): Great resort! - What an amazing resort. My family and I had the time of our lives. Everyone was nice, accommodating and it was extremely comfortable. The rooms are slightly dated. However, they kept them in good condition and clean.
- Wahnese (10/5): - Staff were super accommodating. Extremely affordable. Variety of food. Pool to room ratio is awesome
- Jane (4/5): - This was our third stay at this property as we have previously loved all of our experiences. We love the pools but in Mexico- everywhere has nice pools. What brings us back to this resort is the restaurants! Unfortunately- they have completely changed their reservation system, so the only way you are able to get a dinner reservation is if you stay longer than a week. They have also removed the steak house and Japanese (the best ones) as options and now only let the privileged guests dine there. A complete joke. The buffet is also terrible so we ended up paying for dinner and eating in town. Not what you expect for an all inclusive. Do not recommend!
- Alberto (2/5): - I recently stayed at this hotel, and it was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've had in all my years of traveling. From the moment we arrived, the staff was unhelpful and inattentive. The conditions of the hotel were deplorable — far worse than I could have imagined. The buffet was terrible, with very limited options, and there wasn’t even any meat available. There were no à la carte restaurants to make up for it either.
The pools lacked entertainment, and there were not nearly enough chairs around the pool area for guests. As for the rooms, they were not only outdated but had no upgrades whatsoever. There was no minibar, and the air conditioning barely worked. The bed was uncomfortable to the point of making it difficult to sleep.
On the first day, they gave us the worst rooms possible, and despite our complaints, they refused to change our rooms until the next day at 3 PM. Even then, the air conditioning was still not functioning properly.
I've been visiting Mexico for 12 years, and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. We were there as a family, including my kids, and the general manager never once made an effort to speak with us or address our concerns. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and will certainly never be returning.
- Jennifer (4/5): - The food was terrible. We were only allowed into one of the 2 buffets and it was all recycled food from the other one. Of the two specialty restaurants we were allowed into, there were no reservations available the entire week we were there. There was so much seaweed on the beach that it couldn’t be walked. The only good thing about this hotel was it is in a gated community and the marina is in walking distance.
- Renosa (10/5): - Great property in a gated community, love the short walk to the dolphin show and shopping.
Beach was quite rocky and the lagoon was slimey.
- Ida (10/5): Puerto Aventuras. Yes!!! - Very relaxing week. Perfect service. Friendly staff.
- Susan (7/5): Clean and friendly - Comfy bed, clean room and facilities, food was great. Got placed in a really run down room until we could get moved
- John (6/5): - Staff and outside areas were very good. Rooms were very dated and not well maintained with numerous issues such as: multiple ants in bathroom, bathroom sink did not drain, main door only partially opened due to sticking on bottom, balcony light was burned out and reported with no follow up. Buffet food was good but never changed from day to day. Booking for the ala cartes was next to impossible forcing most people to give up or try and get in on a cancellation which meant waiting for extended periods at the restaurant hoping to get in. The 4 star rating was appropriate for the staff and outside amenities but certainly not the rooms or food.
- Billie (9/5): Superb -
- Lacey (6/5): - Experience as an all inclusive was average. The staff is amazing, and security is top notch. There is quite a difference in the condition of rooms and property from the "average" side of yucatan beach vs the "privileged" side of maya riviera. The washrooms are far away from the beach and are in need of some maintenance. The way the resort functions is why we dont be returning. The bars close before dinner (except the beach bar) and the pools get treated right after, so no after dinner/ evening swim. There wasnt really any entertainment, in the evenings there is one option (sportsbar/club) open at a time and they arent real rockin. The staff go above and beyond and the service is genuinely impressive, but the way the resort functions was certainly lack lustre. Spa was excellent, however.
- Denny Albert (2/5): - Horrible do no ever book here. First hotel couldn’t find reservation, made it seem like I needed to have a voucher and that they would have to contact Expedia for verification that I paid even though I gave them confirmation number. Then beach is super small and the hotel was packed could not even get a lounge chair the whole time I was there (4days). Pools were packed as well and small. At one point they did a fitness class and took the whole pool. Again no lounge chairs available. Room was very outdated and had ants in bathroom. Also at night you had rodents and raccoons roam the property and beach areas getting trash and what ever was left behind. Tried to reserve for the included dinner and was told that it had to be done exactly at 8 am online, tried to do so and was unable to. When asked staff about it was told “too bad”. So got no dinners included. Upon leaving went to put my bag in my car and was followed and told that if I didn’t check out first they would call the police. Went to check out and was told they forgot to charge me $5 fee. Horrible staff and horrible service. Not worth one star.
- adam (2/5): - The resort had a lot of restrictions that weren’t known at time of booking. There were several colored wrist bands that determined what services and amenities you could access. Only water was available in the room fridge and without room service everyday fresh drinking water was limited.
Small beachfront with minimal sand/ more rock than anything. Beach ends with the property/ no further access beyond.
Volleyball is the attraction we chose the resort for however it was on a crowded part of the beach beside all of the chairs people were lounging in. The court was also dismantled for several private events due to small property size.
The sister resort adjacent is divided by a service corridor where trucks had to back in to in order for deliveries all morning. Between this and birds and slamming doors it is quite noisy
- Charlotte (8/5): - Small, quieter resort. Walking distance to marina.
- Elisabetta (7/5): Overall good experience but rooms and food offer could be improved - The public areas with the pools and the beach. The entreating program with a great team: Pablo, Kevin, Lupita, Arturito…
Most of the staff is very kind and helpful.
Everything from the rooms to the public areas is well clean! The rooms was quite old and would need a renovation. From the room we could hear everything outside and it was often very loud in the early morning.
My main criticism is to the food offer which is limited and not great. A part from the buffet option, the two restaurants a la carte are impossible to book and even when we managed to get a table once in one week the portions were small and the food not good!
- Gerard Joseph (4/5): - Potential to be a great resort but misleading advertising and upselling ruins it. The ad specifies 4 restaurants but this is not accurate. They have 4 dining areas, 1 is the main buffet, a hamburger joint with a limited menu and 2 specialty restaurants that you can never book.
The Bad
• Check-in was like exiting the Cancun airport into the time-share sales area as they tried to upsell us to a better room and more restaurants at their sister resort next door. When we declined the clerk made a show of changing our wrist bands. On checking, the upgrade price was almost double what it would cost to book at the sister resort directly.
• Booking restaurants is via a web-based app that never worked and provided no feedback as to why. Customer service staff at the front desk were indifferent and unhelpful only stating they were booked up so reservations would be difficult.
The Good
• The resort itself is nicely laid out, clean and mostly well-maintained. It is older and in need of updating, which they are in the process of doing. Our room was showing its age but very clean.
• The staff, for the most part, were pleasant, smiling and helpful and the nightly shows were incredible.
The So-So
• With really, only one main dining facility, the food was disappointing. It was the same day-after-day, bland, overcooked and seldom above tepid. I wound up sticking to the awesome soups, and salads, so my waist thanked me for that.
Bottom line – you can find better resorts then the Yucatan Beach
- Deseray (6/5): - First time staying here and location was great. Everything needed was all in one location which made it very convenient.
Two major cons for us was the their restaurant reservation service and AC.
Staff will tell you in order to reserve your dinner plans at their fine restaurants, you have to be up and ready to sign up by 7:55am - 8am. If you miss those slots, you’re out of luck. We were on vacation for 5 days and not once were we able to get a spot. Their app / website kept kicking us out and not allowing us to complete confirmation. We called the front desk, woke up earlier to make sure we gad time, and even walked to the service center area for help and nothing. Lady kept telling us there’s nothing they can do. We witnessed two other families complaining about the same thing. Horrible! Highly recommend for them to review their app service and fix because there were some pretty upset families during the dining reservation process. Good luck.
- Yair (8/5): Very good -
- Heather (6/5): - I only spent 2 days here. The staff were an absolute delight. They switched me rooms as my first one was right by the bar and the music prevented me from sleeping well. My second room had a water leak whenever someone above me showered. They put in a maintenance request but I didn’t see anyone in the 12 waking hrs I had that room. And it only happened for short stints when they showered. It leaked in the bathroom.
Check in and out was super easy.
The pool here is very nice and the beach is ok. But the ocean wasn’t delightful for swimming which I very much enjoy. Bars were good, food was ok - I only ate at the buffet and the hot dog stand. Super great hotdogs and I’m not a big fan of hotdogs. Typical buffet offerings.
Saw some people being over served alcohol which the resort should be mindful of. Perhaps such good service isn’t great when people are obviously intoxicated.
All in all you have much the same experience here as you would a fancier resort. It’s smaller which is nice for easily getting to and from your room. And I met some very nice folks from around the world. Would come again if the opportunity arises.
- Jane (4/5): - The staff were amazing but the beach is small and not enough chairs, the food is good but constant repeats of the same dishes, there is not access to 7 restaurants as advertised there is only 3 do we ate many meals at buffet. Shower water cold everyday
The resort is in a gated area which makes it hard to get out to other locations - there is no transportation readily available and long can ride just to get out of gated area.
The amazing thing was watching staff totally clean out rooms when people checked out - all furniture moved and all areas cleaned before next guests.
We will not recommend or come back here. Very disappointing.
- Brady Ryan (10/5): - Nicely set up with great view of everything, very clean and quiet. Needs updating but work is being done all over. Great staff!!
- Renee (6/5): - Decent for price. Wish they had more food option, wait staff near the pool area & an option to check in early
- Nur (5/5): It did the job. I had a place to stay and eat but the place is very tired and run down. Staff are very miserable. - Proximity to dive sites Staff are miserable. They don’t speak English.
- Jorge (9/5): Superb -
- Julio (6/5): - The hotel is small, everything closes early. The food was no more than ok and staff was not really helpful
- Jose Octavio Garcia (10/5): - Loved it!!! So much to do around.
- Seham (6/5): - Not a 4 star resort, more like 3 stars compared to others. The beach area was sufficiently large but very rocky when you enter and can hurt your feet. There is no real deep end, even while furthest away from sand you can still stand on your feet in many areas, so depth is inconsistent. Food was mostly plain and very basic in both the buffets and a la carte restaurants. I expected much better but got tired of eating the same things which were not interesting. Shrimp tacos at mexican restaurant were the only really good food. Disappointed that we found out we cannot eat at the asian restaurant because that is for privileged side only, though I dont see this resort as worth paying more for it. Rooms are outdated, and AC was extemely loud.
- Michael Frederick (8/5): - Pleasantly surprised by this resort. My room was clean! The staff were friendly and helpful. The buffets where what would be expected for an all inclusive and far from terrible. Specialty restaurants were good! The beach bar was fun and had the greatest bartenders, the beach itself was small. My biggest complaint was the sports bar did not open until 5 pm daily(even Sunday) and for some reason the lighting inside was overly bright. Also nearby was a marina with many bars and restaurants so we watched football there. Overall I had a great week! I went with 33 of my friends from Canada and I know they had a great time as well!
- evan (2/5): - I wish I could give it zero or negative stars. Check in was a nightmare. Room wasn’t ready. Leaky ceiling from AC led my 76 year old mother to falling down and manager didn’t even care about her well being and just said someone will be there to look at the AC. My daughter’s clothes were stolen at the pool. A worker snatched food from my fiancés hand and said no we are closing even though there were a few minutes left. We lost power on a 90 degree day and it took them hours to send someone to look at it. Rooms were outdated and dirty. Broken safes and blow dryers. The list goes on. We had three rooms. It was the most awful experience ever. DO NOT EVER GO!!!!!
- al (2/5): - I went to this resort 5 times so far now they change the good part catalonia riviera maya and very old buildings unbelievable old and dirty rooms to yucatan beach they keep restaurants separate too steak house just for exclusive people. Food verity at buffet is not that much it’s cut to half how it use to be. They had construction the whole time we were there with a lots of noise and no stop. Just waste of my money I will never go back and talk with all people that I know to stop go to this resort
- Vincent (10/5): - Good
- MARTHA (10/5): - Loved this resort, the only thing I did not like is no waiter service on beach or pool side
Have to go to the bar for drinks
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- Jordan (6/5): Definitely a bang for your buck, but just don’t get the comfort room, pay the extra to upgrade at least one level - It was very walkable, pretty easy to understand where everything was. Able to swim in the ocean and snorkel so that’s nice. Buffet Food was really good with lots of vegetarian options. The plantains were awesome. Front desk staff was very kind. Booking excursions was easy and that staff was nice too! Met some super friendly people who were also staying there and made some good friends Our first room had a lot of bugs and the AC broke so we suffered for 3 days in 26.5 Celsius (almost 80 Fahrenheit) until they finally let us switch rooms. Didn’t offer airport pickup so it costed 160$ USD to take a taxi because the airport basically only lets taxis and buses come up. The kids run WILD and jump in the pool splashing everyone and their drinks, parents don’t say anything. IMPOSSIBLE to make dinner reservations unless you are on your phone at exactly 8am and make it by 8:05am. All of the restaurants were so hot, looked at the thermostat and it was 90 Fahrenheit INSIDE!! Have to reserve pool chairs very early too, got our towels swiped too.
- Vanessa (10/5): - Me and my sister took our kids here for her 30th birthday. The staff members are so nice and helpful . The family activities that they offered daily really made it feel like a great family vacation.
- Chelsea (8/5): - The property is incredibly large. Lots of things to do. The food isn’t incredible, but good.
- Jennifer (2/5): - Rooms AC wasn’t working, called to get it fixed and nothing was done. Rooms stayed hot through the night which was very uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. beach was filled with rocks instead of sand which was limited and closed off. Also, the rooms including furniture and bathroom area was very outdated, definitely don’t recommend if you are used to nice all-inclusive resorts.
- Johel (10/5): - the entire place is nice, the pople, the only issue the morning coffe, no coffe, so wil be amazing to have coffe on the front desk available for early people who want to enjoy a cup of cofee on the beach.
- Hermes (10/5): - Nice accommodations
- Fatima (6/5): - The building is so old and need urgent maintenance!
Room : room phone, safe box, security lock, balcony lock, tv WAS NOT WORKING,
Bathroom: so dirty not cleaned for a long time, after request they cleaned.
Beach: not enough chairs and shade , too many rocks can’t walk by the beach same in water
Food: could pass but could be better
Restaurant: if you reserve at 8:00 am you can get reservations otherwise it’s booked quick cause small restaurant.
- mario (10/5): - Not bad for a last minute trip
- Nicole (2/5): - DO NOT STAY HERE!! Service is so horrible, air conditioning in rooms doesn’t work, refuse to fix things, won’t accommodate for anyone. There were multiple multiple complaints by many guests. The final straw was when they refused to put new plates out for the buffet because it was 10:20am and they were closing at 10:30am. Such a shame- never had this horrible experience in Mexico.
- Saul (10/5): - Geogina at Kids club was a great help and friendly.
- Robsach (9/5): Superb - The very first impresion was terrible by the overcrowded restaurant for dinner (we arrived around 20.00)
but next days were absolutely OK :+)
good animations :-) the long cue for a dinner, probably caused by the renovation of main bulding, but I am guessing only.
- Richard (7/5): Good -
