Guest Reviews
- Cheryl (10/5): - Good thank you
- Wendy (2/5): - Unsure if property still a motel as advertised .even the person I spoke with said the pictures they has not put on website . Been trying to contact Last minute to discuss - no response as yet
- Danielle (2/5): - Felt like I would of lost organs if I stayed
Did not stay - and was refused a refund
- Lyndon (6/5): - Having 3 dogs, we would eventually like a ground floor room for once
- Lucinda (10/5): - Just love staying at Capricorna
- Barry (2/5): - False advertising at its finest. This place is an absolute dump!Theres too many bad things to type.....JUST BEWARE AND DON'T GO THERE.
- Kylie (2/5): - Lovely staff/owners, shower completely unusable due to mould. Booked as a stay before red-eye flight, not suitable at all. Lovely staff.
- Syed Ali (10/5): - Amazing staff and service
- Nicole (2/5): - Upon arrival @ property we were horrified at the state of the outside. It looked like a prison, dirty & unkept. I wouldn’t let my dogs go in there. Therefore we didn’t even go in & decided to look at alternative accomodation even though we weren’t able to get a refund from them. I’d rather forfeit $ than step foot in the place.
- Scott (4/5): - Pretty much what I expected after reading reviews. Nothing flash but serves a purpose- room itself was clean.
- Brian (4/5): - no car parking
- Damian (4/5): - Not a good place all round. Good shower though.
- Darlly (2/5): Appalling accommodation - Absolutely disgusting filthy room. No hot water. Amenities were below any reasonable standard. Beds were not comfortable.
Shower looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. Toilet was also dirty
Not the sort of place a grandparent should have to put up with with grandchildren
- colleen (4/5): - if you can.t say anything good. don.t say anything at all.
- Kelvin (6/5): - No frills, not modern, but has air conditioning, warm shower, and a clean bed.
- Chris (6/5): - Stayed here 15 yrs ago. Its aged badly sunce then and has that "run down" look and feel.
- Connie (4/5): - It was close to esplanade.
It was tiny rooms and cost too much for one night.
Dirty soap left in shower cubical toilet seat up? If Cleaned at all.
Rickety and old could do with demo and rebuild!
- Gary (2/5): - Absolutely filthy dirty a green slimy pool broken bed in short not even fit to rent by the hour
- Ivan (8/5): - The property is old but maintened well. The only issue was cockroaches, but hard to manage in Darwin & not unreasonable to see some. Owner/Manager helpful and accommodating. Good value for the price.
- Jodie (8/5): - Great location
- Warren (6/5): - for a budget hotel, it was basically OK. close to the city and easy to get to. The unit itself was poorly maintained compared to other hotels I have stayed in. very poor parking facilities, 25 units and only 5 off road spaces. bed was very uncomfortable.
- Lyndon (2/5): - Been told there will be charges for our dogs even though Expedia said no fees, no surprises on arrival.
Been told to take our dogs outside of the property to do their business which we respectfully did.
Then asked again whilst outside of the property, to take our dogs to the nearest park even though we had poo bags ready on us.
Paid cash extending another night and was owed $10 change.
And when I said just give it to me later since we see each other everyday,
Waited for me to be fully packed, outside of the yard, double checking keys and gate card "were"actually in the Dropbox to return my $10 change.
Everywhere was dirty and unpleasant.
We had no blankets, very uncomfortable beds and the whole atmosphere was a true let down.
We will never stay at the cornucopia "budget" resort ever again.
- Coert (10/5): Good, cheap, friendly. - Very nice. Cheap. Friendly manager. I am happy with the rooms.
- Janeeta (10/5): - It's very very convenient for me now my missus and kids are gone
- Lewis (4/5): - Afraid this is so run down and awful, bed ancient, black mould on roof, broken window, aircon didn’t cope, just so tired…
- Dianne (2/5): - Would not recommend as the facilities are very run down and the clientel are less than suitable
- Dianne (2/5): - refused to stay after the first night.
- Petrena (6/5): - Parking was hard
- Brian (4/5): - Friendly staff, but property was old and not well maintained. Springs poked through the mattress, and my wife got some bites whilst sitting on the small chair in the room. Good location, close to beach and Yacht club. Overall, would not recommend it.
- Kathy (2/5): - Didn’t stay the night. It was so awful I left and found somewhere else. How this place can get away with charging $170 a night and advertise on your platform is fraud. Disgusting, disgraceful and it should be shut down. Pillow were wafer thin, room smelt of smoke, no WIFI, mattress had springs you could feel, not enough room to swing a cat. Marketing photos must have been taken last century. Simply a rip off. A4 pic on the wall advising that no refunds will be offered told me I wasn’t the first guest to leave. YUK!
- KathrynAnneElliott (2/5): Absolutely Revolting - Do NOT Book it! - Ghastly place. Looks like a seedy run down joint from the road and it lived up to first impressions. The first thing I noticed when checking in was an A4 sign on the wall advising that refunds will not be available for cancelled accommodation. And I can see why. He must make a living from charging out at price that would indicate that it wasn't zero star motel, but offered reasonable amenities . I was charged A$170 for one nights stay. The room smelt of stale cigarettes, the pillows were so thin as to be useless, the mattress hard and uncomfortable. The room was small with a motley broken down easy chair and a small dilapidated bedside table. The photos used in the marketing of this joint, I would doubt were taken this century. Also there was no milk for tea or coffee or WIFI.
I didn't bother staying and booked else where for $50 more and got a modern room with tea and coffee facilities, restaurant on site and closer to the airport. Tiled bathroom, 4 pillows that were really comfortable, dining table and 3 chairs plus a bench for luggage and or using my laptop and a room that was twice the size.
This is a scary place and how it is allowed to remain advertising itself to the public as a motel is beyond me. At best it would be one step above sleeping on the street if it was pouring down and in the middle of a cyclone.
Absolutely horrendous.
- Kathryn (6/5): - I liked the assistance from the staff. I didnt like there were no side tables, no teaspoons, no toiletries, and I didn't like that other guests were drinking and fighting at 3am keeping me awake
- Rebecca (6/5): - You get what you pay for (bed, shower/toilet) and small room. The staff were extremely polite & helpful. Security gate made our stay feel safe. Close to Fannie Bay restaurants & Parap markets which was handy. Comfy bed & clean sheets. Shower was old & stained but clean. Thanks for fitting us in at last minute.
- David (6/5): - Website says latest check in is 7pm whereas Reception closes at 6pm!
Main phone number is not answered.
- TIMOTHY (4/5): - Limited facilities - my guess is the place will be sold soon.
- David (2/5): - Overpriced and dirty rooms
- Rumesh (2/5): - no toilet paper
- Sheldon (2/5): - On arrival I thought I arrived at a abandoned building. The office was disgusting and smelt like there was a dead body in it. Was escorted to the room and was horrified by the conditions. It stank was mouldy AC was rattling it was dirty disgusting looked like a prion cell out of Bangkok Hilton. I was too scared to touch anything for fear of disease. I handed the keys back and high tailed it out if there. I wouldn’t recommend it for wild animals. STAY CLEAR !!!
- Jamie (2/5): - Could not contact for late check in.
I chose to stay somewhere else also due to the reputation and really shocking reviews on this place.
Wotif and trip advisor should not be recommending such a place for people to stay. You’re completely leading people to a horrible experience based on your recommendations.. this is bad !
- Douglas (8/5): - Lovely stays 💖
- Viliame (2/5): - I don’t know why have you approved it to be a motel. Nothing good hopeless
- Angela (8/5): - I had a very pleasant stay at this motel. The owner is a very lovely helpful man. I felt comfortable as soon as I got there. I had a great nights sleep.
- Greg (2/5): - We made a huge mistake by not checking reviews. We did select a cheap motel but this was unacceptable and Wotif needs to take some responsibility by listing the filthiest place I have ever stayed. We paid for 3 nights and left after first night. The most prevalent signage was “no refunds” so clearly it is a common issue.
- Leah and Wayne (2/5): - This property is disgusting. We did not stay but moved to another hotel. The Capricornia is filthy, unsafe and you should not have it in your portfolio. Gives Wotif a bad name
- Rachelle (2/5): - They had no after hours check in facility. No phone number to ring so e couldn't stay there but the place was pretty skanky from the outside
- peter (2/5): - Very bad, no blankets available, there was a dirty bath towel in the fridge so couldn't be used at all (I took pictures) and the fridge was very noisy! No curtains to completely block the view, horrible!
- manoj mack (2/5): - Worst place. Dirty rooms and conditions of the room not up to standard. Power points hanging off the walls. Paint flaking on walls and ceiling. No toilet paper in the toilet. Drunk people knocking on the door all hours of the night. Please don't stay here.
- Sharon (2/5): - Poor communication with owners . Had to call over 20 times regarding our after hour arrival time .
- Julien (2/5): - Very poor place, clean inside room, but disgusting everywhere else
- Malcolm (2/5): - Terrible parking.
Horrible facilty
- Nerida (4/5): - It was cheap so you get what you pay for…but I should have had hot water for a shower. The springs on the mattress were felt and very uncomfortable.
- brian (2/5): - The ceiling fan and air-conditioning unit were filthy. The fan had approx 1inch of dust on the fan blades. There was mould over the air con and coming out of the sides. Spider webs in the shower cubicle, drain was filthy. Smoke detector was removed and NO Hot Water. I have pictures to document. Absolutely disgusted
- Thomas (4/5): - Very disappointed with the room, fridge was broken, no soap supplied, dirty floor and shower, needs a total repair and update, would not recommend to anyone
- Joshua (10/5): - East budget motel . Close to everything . Would stay again .
- Susan (2/5): - The staff were pleasant however the rooms are so dirty, cockroaches, bedding all stained. Wont be staying there and wont be recommending.
- DARYL (2/5): - Convienant location.
VERY POOR CONDITION OF THE ROOMS.
PAINT LIFTING OFF THE WALLS,
CEILING FANS NOT WORKING.
AIRCONDITIONING FILTERS CLOGGED UP WITH ABOUT10MM DUST.
NO CHAIR IN ROOM
NO BEDSIDE CUBOARDS.
NO TV WORKING/ RECEPTION.
FRIDGE NOT WORKING. FILTHY CONDITION.
NO COFFEE/TEA CUPS AND SPOONS.
STAFF CHANGED MY BOOKING ROOM 3 TIMES AND NONE WAS ANY SATISFACTORY.
DON'T RECOMMEND FOR ANY STAY.
HEALTH AND HYGEINE INSPECTORS REQUIRE TO INSPECT PREMISES.
- annette (2/5): - The room was filthy. Stains on all the walls, the door, and the bathr oom tiles which were cracked to. After pulling the sheet back and looking at the mattress I left. It was putrid! Badly stained and brown all over. I think the found it at the dump. Disgusting and I will be attempting to get my money back!
- Abayomi (2/5): - THE ROOM THAT I BOOKED ON 20TH OF SATURDAY, THE ROOM IS VERY DIRTH COBWEB EVERY WERE BATHROOM AND TOILET VERY DIRTY SO I COULD NOT SLEEP IN THAT ROOM SO I HAVE TO GO TO ANOTHER TO BOOK A ROOM TO SLEEP ON THAT DAY. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT HOTEL CAN SO DIRTY LIKE THAT, IN THIS CASE AM HAPPY WITH UR SERVICE.
- Lachlan (2/5): - Whilst the staff are very friendly, the property is extremely dirty
- Annette (2/5): - This place is a health and safety hazard. Room stinks. Bedding and walls stained and mouldy. Aircon never cleaned and packed with dust. Smoke detector removed, other fire services not serviced for more than 2 years. No light on the back stairs, i nearly fell there in the dark. Emergency light broken.
I considered driving off and sleeping in my car, but there was a fight between residents downstairs and i would have to go past them to open the gate, rather locked myself in and left as soon as i could in the morning.
- Kaumi (8/5): - Great value and you do what get what you paid for. The AC could've been better or bigger for the size of the room but overall happy
- Judith (8/5): - I had a great stay and the staff were great, very friendly and helpful.
- Hilary (10/5): - They accommodated my very late arrival, my room was clean, modern with everything I needed and the managers were friendly and helpful
- 782kendallf (2/5): DO NOT STAY - DISGUSTING - DISGUSTING.
CHECK THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING.
Property does not look like what is advertised.
Multiple drunken and disorderly people lingering inside and around the property leaving our entire family to feel unsafe.
The outside of the property is moldy, peeling and filthy. and that's just the outside.
I will be reporting this property to the correct departments to ensure an audit is conducted as it DOES NOT meet any type of minimal standard.
- Angela (8/5): - Budget friendly, very basic, friendly and helpful staff.
- Jake (2/5): - i did not even book in after i seen the state of the motel with doors missing, paint peeling, filthy surrounds, no body at reception. Looked like a half way house. stayed elsewhere.
- Michael (2/5): - This place was (apparently) the place to be a long time ago. Now it is one step off being a ruin. The only good point was that it had rooms for reasonable comparatively cheap rates. The rest of Darwin was booked out at below $300/n.
- Marie (4/5): - Not happy with our stay at all nothing like to what was advertised as !
- Trevor (8/5): - .
- Joanne (2/5): - Friendly staff and welcoming. . Property is extremely run down, needs a lot of work, a good clean, plumbing fixed and renovations.
- Kym (4/5): - We were initially impressed with staff very helpful as we were leaving late in the evening to go to the airport and need a taxi, they booked for us. The air conditioner was very noisy so very difficult to sleep. Cobwebs on the walls near door. Needs updating.
- Lisa (10/5): - Great value for price. Very helpful and friendly staff, great area.
- Melissa (2/5): - The best thing about this place was the hotel dog Oscar. We had to ask for the basics that are provided even in backpackers. The photos are deceiving on the expedia site. Ultimately we should have paid attention to the reviews before we committed to booking.. but we had to ask for a room clean as we were told it was done once a week. The drain in the shower has never been cleaned of hair. The basin taps turned around and were loose. The shared kitchen needs to be shut down. You should not have black extraction fans and a black cutting board. The microwave was disgusting. We knew it was bargain basement nut but not that bad. The only thing that they have going is the location in relation to the racetrack and the boat clubs.. the staff were ok except on the last day we had a hard time trying to ignore the language of staff who resided next to our room having a expletive screaming match with his latest squeeze. We have never been so happy to leave a place and stay in a van..
- chris (4/5): - We didn't stay Room wasn't Ready and laundry facilities were terrible no drier and no line
- NEVILLE (4/5): - Not a 3 more like 2 in ratings
- Geniene (6/5): - Close to bowls club and yacht club at fannie bay
- iandF9667RP (2/5): Mr and Mrs Ian Dawson - Very dissatisfied, room was not clean enough, pillows were dirty and overall look of the room was terrible, looks like a dump.
Recognising it is a budget hotel, they could have made the room presentable and comfortable.
NOT recommend to any one.
- David (4/5): - Dump would be a good remark
- Barbara (6/5): - Room was dirty and what seemed like termite holes in skirting board. Good area right on the beach with a nice club nearby
- Emma (10/5): - Owner/Manager was extremely helpful when our flight got delayed past the opening hours!
- Tina L (8/5): - Clean sheets and towels. Staff trustworthy.
- Hally (2/5): - This property has not been cleaned for a very long time. Dead cockroaches under the sink. Cups stuck to the dirty tray they were on. Floors have not been swept or mopped for ages. Clothes cupboard doors would not slide open. Thank god we only stayed one night. It was the last accommodation available during racing season.
- Laurence (6/5): - Handy to airport.
Good overnighter for the boys.
Not suitable for couples.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Older back packer type accomadation, clean but old, but priced well. When on a budget good accomadation
- hi i,m (2/5): - Pitches are decevering the rooms had mold and thick dirt in the grout the wall are dirty look like had not been painted in years no were to sit not happy
- Francoise (8/5): - The room next door had their window air conditioner going all night which was very noisy.
- Kathryn (10/5): - We loved our stay here; it has a good community vibe, it's simple and affordable, and it has a salt swimming pool.
No posh attitudes, expensive deco or fancy-pants here. Thank God.
I have read some of the other reviews and I think it's a bit silly of them to complain about it. They want 3 or 4 star quality for 1 star price. Stoopid peeps.
This is an old establishment. It's worn and basic, but it's clean. The management were friendly, helpful, kind and welcoming. We will be back!
- Warwick (10/5): - My mate Alan enjoyed his stay
- Lauren (2/5): - The office stayed open a little later as we didn’t make check in until after they closed. That was great. The man was nice and polite.
When we arrived in our room, the room was dirty. There were dead cockroaches all over the floor, in the bathroom and it was dirty. Wasn’t the most pleasant stay. When I pulled back the sheet there were even ants in the bed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disgusting and Dirty - It was absolutely disgusting filthy and full of cockroaches. I am not sure how the place is allowed to operate. I would like a full refund as it was totally unacceptable.
- james (8/5): - Excellent location to CBD
close to beach restaurants and entertainment
Water pressure in shower not to good bur generally freindly staff and clean budget accomodation
- Graeme (6/5): - The motel certainly need a face lift the toilet certainly need cleaning,it a shame that all items in the room had to be removed due to guests stealing, but Terry the Mngr was kind enough to give us what we needed
- Paradise41433562220 (2/5): The worst motel ever! - Booked into here, they refused to take the booking.com payment so I had to pay again then contact Booking.com to get my money back!
The room smelt like an adult with a bed wetting problem had lived there for 20 yrs. So much hair and pubic hair on the floor I thought it was carpet! There was an ant nest in the clean towel on the bed. I have stayed in hostels all over the place, but this was like nothing I have ever experienced.
I booked a new room elsewhere and rang a taxi, was there less than 45 min. Never got my money back either.
- John (8/5): - The staff was very helpful and friendly
- Martin (2/5): - Old dirty unhygienic needs condemning a health hazard
- Victoria (4/5): - The Staff here are the best thing about this place. very helpful and go out of their way to help and give you advice about the local area, what's on and helpful with check in and out very nice and flexible people.
The property is old, dirty and I have to stay I would not stay here again. It needs a huge renovation and a paint job. I felt the cleanest thing in the room I stayed in was the bed with the nice bed linen and pillows. The fan didn''t work properly, the air con was old and noisy. The TV is good in the room. It just needs a big reno job big time. Pool has no chairs or sun beds around it and is tiny. Pool is clean at least but not somewhere inviting to spend time. It's cheap for a reason if you want budget cheap and if the backpackers are all full. The bed was comfortable enough to sleep in. Location is good close to Mindil beach markets (1.9km walk along the beach front) and close to bus stops for public transport. Only stay here if you want absolute budget cheap.
- Princess (8/5): - Begging staff and waiting for about 3 hours for the staff to remove his car for you to park in a guests limited parking space made me to leave 2 days before due date.I really felt offended.Hope I
never book there again!!!Place is as good as its price.
- Shirray (10/5): - Close to everything in Darwin
- Teigan (4/5): - The room was ok. The shower and toilet were dirty. The aircon didn't work like a aircon should've so it was hot the whole time I was there. The staff were friendly but the overall experience had me leaving my motel a whole day earlier.
- Anne (10/5): - Economical for 1 night stay.
