Guest Reviews
- Anna (1/5): We would rather sleep in the car if we didn’t prepaid for the room. - Comfortable mattress, hot shower and speedy response from staff. Unhygienic and unimaginable amount of cockroaches (found one in my pillow). Leftover food crumbs from likely previous guest that attracted the said cockroaches. Cracks in the walls where cockroaches seem to come from. I don’t know why there are flies in our room and where they’re coming from. Fridge was left off which smells and cockroaches inside.
- Pamela (2/5): Very disappointing, particularly as cheaper and better similar style of accommodation was available in nearby towns. - Good location for my purposes. Very poorly maintained. Entry door handle was loose, hole punched in door to shower/toilet, tv had to be turned off and on at power point, hand basin taps leaked at base, no bedside light, room lighting had to be turned on/off at entry door, bottom of clothes hanging space looked very dirty, outside area that should have been available for guest use was unclean and apparently used for junk storage, person in office on arrival did not speak English and had to phone someone who did to actually do the check-in over the phone, and finally, a no refund policy if booking was cancelled, even if plenty of notice was given. Wish I'd thought of taking photos to illustrate the issues I've outlined here.
- Barbara (1/5): - We arrived no one at reception door locked rang both numbers on door 8 times no answer sent message to site no answer waiting half hour we ended up leaving getting motel somewhere else 2 hours later they ring say back i had already cancelled it found somewhere else to stay ..after driving 9 hrs in 43 degrees heat u don't want be sitting around waiting
- Ronda (6/5): - Clean and comfortable A little out dated
- mark (6/5): - Good value but needs a good overhaul.
- Matt (1/5): Crap - Nothing had to call police as the room next door he was belting his partner and constantly throwing items we booked for 2 left after 1 disgusting Dirty and feral.
- Jacinta (10/5): - Beautiful scenery
- Beryl (2/5): - No fridge, cockroaches, pillows
- Joel (4/5): - would not stay there again
- Jason (1/5): Disgusting - Dirty shower . Drops of blood on floor , sliding door didn’t close or lock , water was running yellow we moved to another hotel it was disgustingly dirty
- Rebecca (3/5): Terrible. Stay away. - Good location. No towels. Staff couldn't supply towels until much later (and even then, they only gave 1 for 4 people). The only heater available was an unsafe option. The Tv didn't work as it was obviously dropped. No fridge. Staff were rude and uncaring. Husband thinks he got bitten by something in the bed.
- Christine (2/5): - First room we were given had an overwelming smell of smoke (Non-Smoking Room). We informed staff member who told us that all of the rooms smell like that. No air freshener was available, however I don't think it would have helped anyway. We were offered an alternative room after speaking to the manager. The front sliding door didn't lock properly. When the door was closed there was a gap at the side where cold air came in. No remote for the split system and a switch on the wall didn't seem to work, so no working heater. Exhaust fan in bathroom full of dust, towel rail broken off wall, basin had marks, possibly mould. There were four people staying in the room and we were only supplied 2 x cups, one small plate, one large plate, 2 x tea spoon. Only one tea bag, nothing else, no coffee, sugar. Fridge looked like something had been spilt in the bottom and not cleaned. Hand towel hanging in bathroom looked like it had been used several times. Outside of jug was dirty, not sure about the inside of it. 2 x bunk beds in the room. Both had bottom mattress, both missing top mattress. Person at reception was rude. We had tried calling the property 20 times between 8.30am - 2pm to confirm our booking and check in time. No one answered the phone and no one called us back when we left a message. When we told the staff member we had been trying to call and no one answer they ignored us. The outside of the property was untidy. We couldn't stay, we handed back the keys and left.
- SUE (2/5): - Worse accomodation I have ever been to, stunk, bed was no mattress, no towels for shower, no toilet paper, not enough crockery for 2 people, would not recommend and in fact we left before night had hit. Rude reception, We were not the only family that left before the night hit
- Wayne (1/5): the place was a dump room looked like sheep lived there did not stay there went somewhere else - nothing everything
- Julie (1/5): Remove from booking.com now - Nothing Could not stay it was so filthy and dangerous
- Ellie (3/5): Tired ,Needs a massive update! - The Heating, split system was very good and the Location. The bed was comfortable. Arriving at the Motel with a booking I was told , I had no booking! there was not a room for me. The owner showed me a room he had . I said that will do..He then had to clean the room.. which meant check in was after 5 pm..
I was told no cups or plates were needed 😂 ....there isn't a Dedicated kitchen, just an alcove that houses the fridge, wardrobe and bathroom sink on the way to the Shower toilet, which is separate. The tiles needed a BIG scrub and the toilet was newish. 😫 ..it did have a Microwave , kettle, hair dryer , fridge . I would not stay again..Pay more and stay elsewhere.. this place has so much potential but they don't know how or where to start..
- Steve (2/5): - The El Toro is an absolute dump.
I highly recommend that this site be removed from all accommodation sites. Even the local Police said not to stay at the El Toro.
- Tim (2/5): - Dirty room, cockroaches in the bathroom. No cups or mugs and refused one when asked at reception. Room smelled of someone smoking previously.
- Paul (2/5): - Poor service and rude, office closed after we checked in and they don't answer the phone. No towels in the room, room wasn't serviced. The place smells bad, worst of all is the number of cockroaches in the bathroom, shower, vanity when you turn the lights on. Personally, i think the other rooms are rented out to tenants who live there fulltime, and they're not really interested in running it as a motel. I would not stay there again.
- Teish-Lee (8/5): - Nice and clean good for 4 people nice little town easy access to local shops. Loved my stay can’t wait to go back again
- Mark (2/5): Very poor -
- Len (2/5): - Office never open. Service - none. The person that checked us in could speak very little English. Not impressed and would not recommend to anyone.
- Linda (1/5): Avoid el Toro if at all possible. Nothing positive about this place. They can’t even have their dump masters emptied. Ba - Location is the only thing going for this place The staff, or the 1 rude chick that met us at reception. Had to call a mobile number for assistance then she popped out of nowhere, on the phone to the person I had to call for check in.
I need booking number, she yelled. I said, hang on a sec, in pitch black by the way, inside the stinky smelly reception. Took her a good couple of minutes to turn on the light. Went to grab my phone to see the booking number. It took everything for me not to give her a serve. Two night stay, not our first choice btw but everything else was booked out. Needed a roll of toilet paper so my wife went to reception. Again. Yelling out for assistance. When the same chick did emerge, she was asked for a roll of toilet paper only to be told, you go buy one!!! Credit to my wife, she said no, I’m not going to buy one if I’m paying to stay here so give me a roll of toilet paper!! My wife was handed 2 rolls 😁I don’t think they have ever seen a broom, mop, duster in their lives. We understand it’s a budget motel, but this place is horrendously disgusting.
- Jashandeep (7/5): Good -
- Raymond (7/5): Good -
- Rhonda (1/5): Bad - On arriving at El Toro Motel, our very first impression was oh my God, the reception frontage was disgusting ,thick cobwebs that had turned brown from dust ,windows disgusting ,window sills thick with dirt and the white curtains also going brown with dust ,that was even before we got to our room , in our room the curtains all needed a good wash plus the windows ,we only had one chair for the 2 of us ,my husband found another one outside another unit ,our outdoor table was absolutely putrid, in the bathroom the toilet seat was ill fitting ,the white shower curtain was all brown along the bottom plus the shower needed a clean ,Over all the whole place needs a very good clean up outside ,the only good thing our bed sheets were very clean ,I think that will do for now
- Lea-anne (6/5): Clean sheets hot water ok for 1 night it’s budget - Central Bathroom needs tiles cleaner
Outside need sweeping dusting
Walls paint. Again lots marks stains
Chair in room broken unsafe
Run down for age needs good Reno
- Dione (4/5): - We ended up not staying the night and drove back to Melbourne after our function........
- Tammie (1/5): Poor - We got there the worker was rude, pretty much threw the key at me, got into the room there was no toilet paper in the room there was no remote for the tv and the floor looked dirty, only thing was done was the bed was made! Nothing
- Kathleen (4/5): - Room was clean and comfortable.
So noisy from neighbors (shift workers)
I had to resort to ear plugs. Only stayed one night but paid for two.
- Trish (1/5): Bad -
- Kristina (2/5): Substandard and unsafe accommodation - The room we booked was not available upon arrival (we booked queen + 2 single, the motel offered a queen only). This place is unsafe, the host opened more than one room with the key we were given. The room was not clean, we had 2nd hand smoke from the adjacent room through an internal door, the bed linen were old and had holes, and we had bed bug bites. The TV was not working. Only warm water in the tap, no bottled water available for drinking.
- Michael (5/5): Bearable for the night. - Close to event venues. Rudest arrogant person on check-in, 2 old open drinks in fridge, outdoor area unswept with a filthy old lounge, no plates or cutlery.
- Geoff (1/5): Bad -
- Ian (4/5): Got what we paid for! - Location was perfect for the function we attended. Efficient and quiet aircon. good supply of hot water for shower and hand basin. External appearance was off putting, doesn't look "smart/clean" overall rundown look, external grounds were unkempt, cigarette butts everywhere. Room makeover would have been better if there was a bit more attention to detail, obviously had had new flooring which suited well, but the rest of the room had the same rundown look. No bedside table lamps so had to negotiate from light switch near front door to bed in the dark.
- Greg (6/5): We’ll look elsewhere next time. - Location Very basic, no staff on the property, no iron for clothing, no milk for tea, no spoon or sugar, toilet rolls just loose sitting on the dispenser, towels non-absorbent and had an industrial smell, I had to park out on the street overnight, it was very basic for over a $100 room.
- Cameron (2/5): - Property was filthy bins full of stinking rubbish. Rooms were old and musty smelling. Fridge did not work.
Sheets were clean.
Around the property was dirty, looked like it hadn't had maintenance for 1 years, looked and smelt like a third world accommodation. If it wasn't a long weekend public holiday and all accom was booked out in area l would have forgone the nights cost and went somewhere else.
- Suzanne (1/5): Glad they didn’t have a room for us. It was filthy. - Didn’t like anything. They did not have a room available for us. The office was filthy & receptionist had very poor English. If they did have a room for us I think it would have been dirty & we would not have stayed. It was dirty & unkept.
- Marion (5/5): Passable -
- Peter (2/5): - I booked via wotif, had a room available, paid for my room, get phone call from motel, We have no rooms. Not impressed
- Rebecca (2/5): - We arrived and no one was manning the desk we phoned the number no answer a worker then came and got the receptionist who was very rude didn’t even bother checking that we had a reservation. We then went into the room where we found sheets that were stained felt bumpy. We didn’t even stay there it was that disgusting.
- Ben (1/5): Don’t bother staying at this place. - Dump A reply from staff.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Old motel on last legs - Booked last minute as other motel option fell over. Check was a circus, although i booked a family room with three beds there was not one available and they had no idea what i had booked. To their credit after explaining we needed three beds (two teenage boys in tow) they dragged another single in from another room.
Suitable for quick overnight stay, old outdated dodgy motel that has seen better days.
- BARRY (2/5): - NO good.....avoid!
- Donald (1/5): We abandoned our stay and left halfway through - Location Room had not been cleaned cigarettes and rubbish on floor in bathroom No caps/sauces or glasses available on check in not until 8am next day door did not have a chain lock fitted properly. Verandah was filthy with a broken lounge/bed on the verandah. Long grass around the swimming pool, and it seemed like abandond car/s in the parking area and long grass basically untidy and unclean
- Glenn (6/5): All right for overnight stay - Front staff grumpy Nice bed and shower
- Kerrie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Karen (1/5): Bad - The worst motel I have ever stayed in, smelly dirty, food left in fridge from previous people, stained towels and I was ignored for some time on arrival, no one wanted to come to reception even though I could hear them, had to blast my car horn and bang on the window, I had previously booked and payed
There was a noisy old man in the next room with the TV up full blast all night and his cigarette smoke and smell came into my room.
Awful just Awful Everything
- Alana (4/5): - The state of the rooms and outside was very unclean - literal rubbish on our “balcony” with crusty couches missing cushions and dirt everywhere.
Walkable to everything and lovely park across the road.
- Christopher (1/5): Bad -
- Ben (2/5): - Not at a pleasant place to stay at all.
Very run down property. Dark, smelly room. No power lead to the TV, and wiring hanging loose from ceiling. Barely hot water. Noisy live-in staff. Could find no reason at all to return or recommend to others.
- Martwangsang (8/5): Very good -
- Matt (1/5): Do not stay here, liars and cheats. - Nothing to like about El Toro They called and cancelled my booking 30 minutes before my arrival, I was 2.5 hours into my drive there. Booked, paid and confirmed a month before. Had a more lucrative contract with the government to house undesirables. The receptionist yelled at me when I asked what I was supposed to do at 4.30pm on day of arrival, refused to help just said I’d be refunded! I had an event the next morning at 7am in Numurkah and had booked 2 night. I was given 3 differing reasons why my booking was cancelled and felt lied to. Disgraceful behaviour and would not recommend staying here.
- Leigh (1/5): Motel from hell. - Absolutely nothing. 3:51pm day of check in they message me saying they don't have a empty room & for me to cancel my booking. Now they won't refund monies that I had paid. Do not go to this terrible place.
- Gay (1/5): Very disappointed - Nothing I don’t mind old, but it was very dirty, and crap all around the parking area. I can’t believe booking.com even has it on their site
- Susan (2/5): - This motel was an absolute disgrace. Filthy inside and out. Room smelled of smoke fire alarm broken. Shower recess disgusting. I have never in my life seen anything so awful. I only stayed because everything else around was booked out due to a CFA championship competition which was on in Mooroopna. Which I was attending. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If I could get my money back I would. I would say the health department would close it down if they saw it. I am going to report it.
- Neil (2/5): - Arrived at 3.30pm, office unattended, manager did not answer bell or phone, did ring back to advise room not ready and come back in 30 minutes. Came back, no manager, sat outside room and cleaning staff (who were pleasant & helpful) said another 10 minutes. No key in room as we were told it would be, cleaning staff went to office and found it. Another room occupant arrived and she could not contact reception staff and did not have a key. On leaving still no manager to speak to and office locked. Room needed improvements including back door lock damaged (managed to make it work).
- Leanne (2/5): - Nothing to like except at least the aircon worked.
Everything was dirty, only three extremely flat pillows provided for three adults, one with no pillow case.
Two thin towels provided for three adults you could almost see through.
No cups or spoons for the coffee provided. Scruffy men lurking in the pool area staring at us and sleeping on a mattress. Pool obviously not cleaned in forever. Never anyone in reception and when calling was told to help ourselves from room 10 which was not locked but no cups etc, towels there either, was two more thin pillows with cockroaches inside the pillow cases.
We left a day early.
How can Expedia and others take bookings for this motel? How are they even open at all?
- Shelley (4/5): - No staff at reception, told room open but not, toilet didn’t flush, no cutlery, shower dirty, no milk, no ordinary glasses, yard and surrounding really untidy, old mattresses laying around. O/side ash trays full of cigarette butts. Very uninviting
- Susan (8/5): - Fair bit of noise not sure if in motel or surrounds but lots of empty beer bottles around motel.
- Thomas (4/5): - You would have rocks in your head to stay there!
- Rob (4/5): - We had been forewarned by a relative who lives in town that the motel had gone downhill recently. We thought we'd give it a go anyway. Upon arrival there was no-one at reception and no response when ringing the doorbell. Another person staying there said they had to wander up to the local pizza shop (also managed by the motel owners) to get any service. We had to call two phone numbers listed on the front door before someone answered. Our first impression when opening the door was the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke, in defiance of the 'No Smoking' signs. While the room was spacious and the bed comfortable, maintenance of the room and property was poor. The knob on the outside of the bathroom door was missing; the normal supporting bracket for the shower was loose so the showerhead wouldn't hold; one of the tap handles fell off when in the shower as the retaining screw was missing; there was no chair in the unit, and the chairs outside were in an unusable condition. One of the windows was cracked and had been boarded up. While basic tea making facilities were provided, there was no coffee or teaspoons. While we could cope with most of the above, the all-pervasive smell of cigarette smoke was the big downer for us. It is unacceptable in 2024 to allow guests to sleep in a room that has been smoked in and furthermore, there appeared to be no functioning smoke alarm. These are serious health and safety hazards that must be addressed by the owners.
- Gary Thomas (6/5): - The photos online are obviously out of date as the property itself is quite dated, with broken furniture and pot plants littering the surrounds. The room was adequate, but could do with a major spring clean - curtains dusty and mouldy on the back.
The sheets were clean and bed comfortable, water was hot.
The staff seemed friendly enough.
- Mandy (2/5): - Pulled up at the property and very run down and unkept outside. No staff at the property on check in in office hours. Called the phone number and told key was in the room. Upstairs room with rubbish outside of room on balcony, used alcohol bottles. On entering the room, very dated, cobwebs in windows and carpet had visible dirt on it as if it hadn't been vacuumed. Repairs to cracked and damaged tiles uneven and poorly completed.
Bathroom door didn't shut, poor security with a press button lock on the external door which was loose. On returning later that night patrons in the next room loud and drinking alcohol with music playing. Locked the door and went to bed. Noise and music continued and then someone tried to enter our room. They did not get in, but couch was pulled up to the door as extra security. Drinking, music and laughing could be heard by several males. Started to go to sleep and then a fight breaks out, screaming, yelling, swearing, banging against the wall. It sounded like someone was pushed down the stairs. Police were called and when they arrived we felt safe enough to leave the room. Worst motel, do not stay there. We left the property not staying longer than 4 hours in that motel room. We drove all the way home in the middle of the night, very upset. This motel should be shut down, not safe, not clean, service is zero.
- Neil (4/5): - The place was dirty inside and out.Not a place I would stay at again or recommend to anyone
- Kerri (4/5): - This motel needs a LOT of work doing to it! Sheets were clean, pillows were comfy, that's all it had going for it! The mirrors, 3 in total (?) were smudged, the dining table was dirty, the windows had the remnants of something running down them. Very dated bedding & curtains. The shower was decaying and had a disgusting rubber shower mat in it. A grotty old couch was outside our room to enjoy the views of the creek across the road, I wouldn't have sat on it if I was having a heart attack!! The bed was uncomfortable and the springs creaked everytime we moved in it, not to mention the fact the bed was on coasters on floating floor boards and due to the uncomfiness of it we nearly ended up on the other side of the room. When I did put the bed back into place there were old tissues under it!! There was a broken electrical plug plugged in next to the bed, it was the cord for a powerboard which went into the bathroom to power the fridge and micowave!! The TV reception was bad, that didn't really bother us as we weren't in the room long enough too care. The room slept four, which we didn't need, there were only three mugs and they were all different, no glasses. It is such a pity this motel is so bad because Numurkah is such a pretty town that I would visit again, but not at this motel. It served a purpose to lay our heads down after a late night celebration, but we would NEVER stay here again!
- Annie (2/5): - There was no milk, no crockery or cutlery . The room was jammed with 2 single beds, a queen bed and a sofa. The aircon didnt work properly and the person who checked us in didnot know if we had paid or not. It was shabby all round.
- Craig (8/5): - Room was good clean
- Natalie (2/5): - This place is real rundown and needs a lot of work. Ok for 1 night stay f you’re desperate but needs a lot of work. Super outdated inside the room and out, almost looks haunted and get a really miserable feeling staying there, don’t recommend.
- Brooke (2/5): - Took my girls there didn't look anything like the website extremely dirty was expected to stay 2 nights checked out the next day only thing was owner was nice enough to refund the 2nd night accommodation, would not recommend this place at all needs a lot of TLC
- Brian (10/5): - Excellent service
- Justin (8/5): - Current renovations in progress likely to improve, very noisy neighbours in next room talking loudly till 3 am struggled to sleep
- William (4/5): - Balcony doors onto street could not be locked and front door needs replacing after obvious damage.
- Alex (2/5): - Smelly towels overall grubby
- Terence (4/5): - Location good and bed comfortable.
No one to check in at 1830, despite advertising open till 2130.
Room smelly and heater of limited effectiveness.
No remote for TV and the one eventually supplied after approximately two hours, didn’t work!
Cups unwashed since previous occupant, with a used tea bag label stuck in the bottom - disgusting!
- Kirsty (2/5): - Pay the extra and stay elsewhere!
Our sleep was abruptly interrupted by an ice addict having a psychotic episode in the adjoining room at 2am.
Balcony door didn't lock, no crockery or cutlery in the room. We left early and stayed our extra night in Numurkah elsewhere at a professionally run establishment. Shame because under previous owner it was a good stay. Never again El Toro!!
- Michelle (4/5): - It was dirty was not happy with the service it looked different in the website they need to be reviewed .
- Natalie (2/5): - This property needs a health and safety officer to go through it it was disgusting.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Find something else - It started with call saying they were overbooked then told us they managed it. When arrived they told us room number over the phone. It was ok room but it was joined to the cleaner's room or office with glass door not locked. For us big issue of privacy. Our bed was so hard that both of us couldn't sleep. The shower door was not working.
The location was great.
- Neville (8/5): - Mona is a very pleasant person and is good at her position
- Chris (4/5): - Our room wasn’t clean. There was hair in the sink and dust everywhere. There was tea and coffee but no spoons. No plates or anything to eat from. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It was pretty bad.
- Ali Rahim (6/5): - All good, the only problem air condition was not working
- Joshua (8/5): - The staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Clyde (8/5): - The El Toro is in Numurkah's main street close to the Numurkah Cafe which is open to 8.30 pm. The place is older but in good condition and the price is reasonable. What I really liked was the relaxed and efficient staff and the lack of fuss.
- Leo (8/5): - El Toro are doing some Reno’s which is good as it was due. At check in I was not clear that I had booked on Wotif and the receptionist charged me again for the room. It was all fixed the next morning.
- Jesse (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE! - This hotel showed availability on Hotels.com, we booked and then call the hotel about arrival time and the hotel owner said they were fully booked. Hotels.com then kept our money and the Hotel itself never returned the non-refundable fee --- complete scam and super annoyed by Hotels.com. Racked up a $100 phone bill calling Hotels.com to sort out the issue as we were on business travel --- we were forced to try to find other accomodation at a late hour and almost had to sleep in our car --- no resolution and no refund.
Considering dumping Hotels.com all together --- unbeliveable bad service!
- allan ross (8/5): - Like the pool and the location to the shops in the main Street staff friendly and very helpful 👍
- Rob (8/5): - convenience
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent little room with everything needed. Hospitality of Owner was exceptional. Will alwmways stay there when there visiting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was comfortable & clean. We had no complaints.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff are extreamly friendly and welcoming. They were available for all enquiries and made the stay here feel more like home and welcoming. The pool is lovely and the location is set by the river so you can hear the wildlife which is a beautiful thing to wake up too. Definatly qorth the stay if you visit numurkah.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The Motel was a little old and tired, but was a comfortable bed.
- adam (8/5): - clean & simple.... very nice managers/owners.... would stay again
- Sam (6/5): - unfortunately it was nothing like we thought it would be... it was OK but we wouldn't stay their again. not for $130.00 per night. However it was clean.
- GarryandWendy (10/5): - Comfortable and clean room in centre of Numurkah
Would definitely stay again
- Sue (8/5): - The room was clean. Bed comfortable. Shower was awesome. For the money, were happy. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - And again, if you want reviews make it quick and easy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The cleaning staff were very nice and my room was clean. The owner was very grumpy and complained that I booked through an app as he lost money. He was too lazy to fix the door on the room next to me so my family couldn’t stay together but put someone else in the room later that day. The pool was clean but the area around it was dirty. Wouldn’t recommend it or stay there again. He also complained about his bad reviews. There was also a possum or rat chewing at the walls that kept me awake at night.
- Angela (4/5): Don’t bother - Grumpy lazy owner. Nice cleaning staff. Rat or possum in wall chewing wood kept me awake. Sister had room with broken curtains leaking basin. Owner complained I book through an app as he had to pay commission. Would visit Numurkah but not stay there again
