Vacation Home

The country house features gorgeous period features from the mid 1800's. It has a full kitchen, two living areas both with smart TV's one with a lovely gas log fire, a dining room and two queen bedded rooms. There is a modern bathroom with dual access to the master bedroom along with another more original full bathroom and laundry. It has an outdoor seating area with built in bbq and access to the gardens. There are also some decorative open fireplaces but these cannot be used for safety reasons. The house does front the Princes Highway so you do get some road noise but we have had hundreds of guests stay and love it.

Judith (9/5): Excellent except for booking stuff up - This is my 2nd stay at this property - I love it & would stay there again However… booking.com booked me 2 extra cottages for $950 which I did not book or authorize. I’m in the process of dealing with with getting refund but it also deprived the owners of other bookings. Very sloppy practice. Have used booking.com for years & never had this problem before however if I don’t get a satisfactory resolution I’ll be very upset.

Very happy stay 😊 The on switch for the gas log fire was pushed in… just took us a while to dig it out so that we could turn it on. Pretty easy fix though 😊

The weather wasn’t kind to us so the rain curtailed our plans. The cottage was very comfortable, bed and sofa. The jacuzzi bath was a nice treat after a long time travelling. Everything was well presented. The property is signposted from the Princes highway; each cottage has an allocated parking space. The guides provide useful information; we saw games and TV facilities but didn’t use. WiFi was strong. Check in easy and good pre arrival communication from hosts. There was a small carton of milk left in the fridge. Port Fairy itself has a lovely vibe and the added interest of the river and Griffiths island. We would recommend. Nothing; we collected take out for dinner. Restaurants were full without bookings on a Saturday. Self catering breakfast is easy; less so freshly prepared dinner options given space and facilities. We were surprised to hear some road noise overnight from the highway. Not an issue, just worth noting.

steven (7/5): Great location, Quirky house. Nice bed! - The country house looked picturesque, it was cozy especially in the evening with the fire on. The bedroom nearest the kitchen was ours for the evening and my mother had the other room closest to the pool table. Our room was nice and so was the bathroom. Couple of cracked glass windows and it didn’t feel secure but never felt vulnerable. Slept well. In the day all is well and we enjoyed our stay. The check in was nice with our names on the board as we arrive. The check in text was also received well. It’s good value for money. I woke up during the night hearing footsteps across the hall, my mother couldn’t sleep hearing noises and felt really creeped out that side of the house. Pretty haunted I would say. The property could really do with some improvements in terms of repairs and cleanliness.

From a full kitchen, jacuzzi and local wine to quality toiletries, toys and a swing for kids and TVs, everything is well-thought and welcoming. Louise (9/5): Quaint cottage beautifully done. - The cottage (cottage 3) was quaint and cosy with a lovely outdoor seating area that catches the afternoon sun and sunset. Spotlessly clean, and with lovely furnishings, the cottage had a huge bathroom, cosy sitting room with smart tv and small kitchen area with microwave, kettle and toaster. I had read comments re traffic noise from the road, and we live in a quiet village in the UK. The road did not bother us and we couldn’t hear traffic with the aircon on. The bathroom was large and a little chilly and we found towels didn’t dry very well.

I liked that they even left a little handwritten note. I am obsessive about cleanliness, and the place was clean! I also liked their choice of toiletries. Sukin: ethical, Australian-owned and made, vegan-friendly. It was lovely. No negatives.

Ms Zohar (9/5): Cosy comfort in gorgeous accommodation - Very comfy, convenient, esthetically pleasing with period chić on the outside and tastefully contemporary inside. Nurturing and welcoming space and great people running the place. Had the heating going for us on arrival with a welcome note. Bed was sooo comfy. Parking also good. Very clean and well maintained. Property well maintained as well. I am not a fan of spa bath showers, always scared I’ll slip! From what I can tell, it’s different in different cabins and can appreciate that some people like it and also that it would be costly to replace- it’s a personal preference rather than a problem with the space. We will definitely be back so obviously not a deal breaker!

Highly recommend Bottega Toscana for the best pasta. The property is on a main highway but it was quiet at night. The shower was a step into a spa bath so difficult if you have mobility issues.

Lauren (10/5): Like coming home but better - I’ve been staying at Clonmara for years and it just keeps getting better and better. Steve and Anna are gracious hosts and the place always feels like home (but better and more comfortable). In fact it’s always a bit of a struggle to get ourselves out in the morning or make our way back into town in the evening for dinner as we just want to curl up in the living room, it’s so cozy. The country house is beautifully appointed, the beds are so comfortable, and the cottages are just perfect if you’re by yourself or with a partner. The most perfect way to experience Port Fairy, Clonmara makes it a place you’ll want to return to again and again.
