• Colin (10/5): - Fantastic staff and rooms were nice and clean
• Ashley (2/5): There’s much better places to stay - Curtains didn’t cover the window so it was so bright at night that I didn’t need lights. There’s no “do not disturb” that you can put on the door so they go through your room daily whether you like it or not. Awful. I asked to be switched to a room with a better curtain using the phone number they used to get ahold of me and was ignored. I am disabled so it was wonderful to watch them watch me struggle with bags.

• Lydia (8/5): - Open shower concept in bathroom area. Floor doesn’t slope enough for water to drain so the bathroom floor was flooded with water. Didn’t dry overnight. We had to use towels provided to step on.

• Sandie (10/5): - My unit was spotlessly clean, had everything i needed for my stay. Very comfy bed with a good amount of blankets to be warm and cosy. Heatpump in case you get cold but the unit was very warm. Motel is in a quiet location with minimal noise, the odd car going up the road but it was Friday night when i stayed. Good shower with good pressure. Location is perfect to easily get to Waikato public hospital or the private hospitals, or hamilton central shopping. This is very good value for $ and i would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.
• Grainne (4/5): - The unit was spotless, spacious and adequate to make breakfast. The air con was not cold enough, the sheets were noisy and the tv did not work. The owners were a bit short and couldn't resolve the tv issue or offer us another room.

• Verified traveler (8/5): overnight stop - just had a quick overnight stop and didn't arrive til late but was OK except TV didn't work. Was clean and tidy in good location for us.

We arrived after 2.30 pm but towels had not been left in the unit and we had to ask for a shower curtain. TV. - while. We had access to Netflix and that type of programme but there was no direct live TV coverage which meant hours/days old news, no up to date news. TV was accessed through YouTube. There were no regular channels to watch.
• muzz56ie (4/5): reveiw for 21st September for a week - This motel room C18 would have been ok but for the single bed in the lounge was uncomfortable and springs could be felt in the mattrass. The shower was good though the toilet system buttons kept collapsing and the carpet in the back corners of the bedroom were either eaten away or rotten from water damage which was obvious in the kitchen as the cupboards smelt very musty. The managers were very polite but I would not go back there. I was there with my daughter while my husband was in Waikato hospital for heart surgery
• Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location easy walk to shops and bars & parking on site. The room was very spacious. Unfortunatly the room was also very noisy you could hear people outside clearly. The bed was too firm. The shower door was hard to open and the water in the shower kept going hot & cold.

Strange smell in room on check in - very chemically, maybe the cleaning products. The staff I interacted with all very friendly and accommodating
• Verified traveler (4/5): - The bed was comfy and clean however guest's on floor above were very very noisy until 3.30am! Shower stool asked for but didnt have one, supplied own also shower floor slopeing down toward plug not ideal. Whole place looked as if it could do with maintenance.

• Verified traveler (6/5): - The bed was super comfortable however there was no shampoo in bathroom and it was unbearably hot. There was a fan provided but we had to have several cold showers throughout the night due to the heat in the room
• PauaNZ (8/5): - The one bedroom suite was large and well laid out. However there were stains on the carpet, the spa bath did not work, and most worrying was that there were dirty dishes in the kitchen and old milk in the fridge. At 3:30am two other guests started a massive fight with each other and there was yelling outside my room and on the pathways throughout the property. This went on for some time without any intervention from property managers.
• Leroybob (8/5): One Night Stay - Had an over night stay following surgery at Waikato Hospital - not 5 star but met my requirements nicely - nice people who provided friendly service - good accommodation with very comfy bed - and close to hospital.
• OnAir45603829961 (8/5): well presented. - Lovely old house. Clean, tidy room. John was very friendly and helpful. Only thing needed in room would be a utility knife and chopping board in kitchenette. Close to amenities, including hospital and lake..
• H8664NJalexm (4/5): Some basics right but not charming - I'd have to agree with other reviewers that the attitude of the managers is among the bigger turn off's here and the establishment would probably improve under different management. Onto the accommodation... It ticks critical boxes - has comfy beds and decent showers. The units are definitely dated as others have pointed out and are a bit run down with multiple minor repairs needed and a bit of a general clean up. The regular housekeeping / cleaning is good and floors, bathroom surfaces and kitchen surfaces are all clean and usable. Noise carries easily between units. Pricewise I feel you can find better. The high maintenance colonial building hasn't been highly maintained and doesn't offer any of the homesteads charm to guests.
• EzraF32 (2/5): Filthy place with no sanitation. - This place is SCARY! We were lured in by the apparent beautiful exterior of the motel. After we checked in we discovered our room was a filth hole. Smelled like smoke, mold and poop. Pretty much everything was wrong with this motel. I would not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel unless they’re over 80!
• emilysR3470OO (2/5): Dirty and Trash - I visit Hamilton quite often now and found another cheap deal but have just realized that deals are just disgusting. The hotel is just next to a trash. Couldn’t gather any information on the owners but if you are reading this, please spend some money on your room structure. The room was old, outdated, musty and full of cracks on the walls. Someone’s home would be much better than this hotel. Not worth even trying. My husband almost started getting allergies after staying here just for a night.
• NannyBC (6/5): Handy to Hospital and Town - Basic accommodation but clean and tidy and Host's really nice. We had one of their $7 meals each and they were great. Plenty of food and nicely served, delivered to room as well. Lots of off street parking also.
• DuGae (6/5): Great for last minute motel - The host where wonderful. We had to take my son to Waikato Hospital and for convenience to the hospital it was great. The rooms are a bit tied they need updating but the outer of the build has that old colonial charm. The beds where very very comfortable. We got the last room and it was huge for the three of us and it was awesome for the price, the room can sleep up to 7. Most motels have no somking on the premises but Colonial City Motel has table and chairs with ash trays outside all rooms. We would love to stay there again 😍
• 0neelya (6/5): Accommodation close to hospital - I presume the room was not always used as it was not very clean. e.g. dirty grease on top of microwave and kitchen window sill. Dust, crumbs etc between cushions on sofa. However, bed was really comfortable and excellent shower. The electric frypan had obviously not been used for some time. I was staying with daughter who had to stay close to hospital overnight and could not be alone
• F469QEsarahb (6/5): Quick stop - We stopped here on the way to Taupo, the room was clean and well equipped. There had been some sort of mix up so we were most surprised to find 3 separate bathrooms and a separate curtained area containing an additional 5 beds! Easily the largest room I have ever seen. Easy to find and park, reception staff were friendly.

Very welcoming hosts, the two bedroom unit was spacious enough for us with all the necessary facilities to cook your own meals. Well located with access to shops and supermarkets. Has also a shuttle service to the Hospital. Very clean, with toiletries provided and hair dryer. +++++
• filomenas61 (10/5): Emergency visit to Waikato hospital from 17 to 21 March 2016 - My husband was transferred urgently by ambulance from rotorua to waikato hospital and we didn't get a bed until about after 1am so hospital organised accommodation for me in Colonial motel. At 2.30am I arrived at motel and Heather's husband showed me my room and gave me key and just let me get to rest no questions asked etc. For me that was the best bed and room as I had a very stressful day in hospital since 11am on 16 March and I just wanted to sleep.Ended up staying 4 nights.Facilities very clean, motel very handy to hospital and shops etc.Host even advised me about the hospital shuttle, which is an excellent service for a patient's family especially if you don't know Hamilton. Excellent understanding hosts who took a lot of pressure off me as my accommodation was sorted without any hassles at all. Personal touch goes a long way :-)
• goldenponyboy (8/5): Great value - We stayed for one night while attending a friends birthday. We found the room large, clean, well located, and well priced. It was fairly busy but quiet. The deco was a little out of date but clearly well maintained. A great budget option in Hamilton.

• tekohiwi (6/5): Great Size - I stayed in the studio apartment which is a great size with a king size bed and two singles, separate (small but ok) kitchen and bathroom. Free wi-fi was great & the price was good. Clean & tidy but unit was right on the road front and I was kept awake by traffic. so if I was to stay again I would not book that unit. Owners were pleasant and helpful.

The continental breakfast is good, no complaints there, in fact no complaints what so ever in regards to all else. Great value for money asked.

First time I'd ever stayed in a pet friendly room as my son who doesn't live with us brought his dog. Being a pet friendly unit I was concerned about smells and cleanliness but there was no problem at all. The room was clean and no signs of previous pets having stayed there.

Very Central and upon arrival was offered a larger room than I had booked which I was thankful for. The shower was warm and had good pressure. Iron in the room with kitchen facilities. Great value.
• BearVillain (6/5): Quaint kinda place - Cricket World Cup NZ Tour One of those places you're really not sure how to review. I liked the building and its oldie worldy style but the room was tired and in need of freshening up. Wall paper was coming away from the wall with cracked/flaking plaster also evident (see photo's). Our initial greeting was cool and aloof but in fairness this did get a little warmer later in the evening after a debate over whether breakfast was included in the room rate - it was and was promptly delivered to our room in readiness for the morning. NB No credit card imprint required here....fair play to them for that and wifi was free of charge. On departure it was a case of no one there/drop your key on the desk.

• vaibhavv777 (2/5): This Place Has Bed Bugs - WARNING: This place has bed bugs. I was bit by one during the middle of my stay and kept wondering why my back was hurting so much at a particular point. A few days later in Auckland, it finally struck me that it was a bed bug bite. I still can't believe it - I'm thinking of reporting this hotel to the Hamilton's local authorities. Otherwise as well, this is a dump of a place with uptight owners. They could do with a little more humility and pleasantness. Stay clear!

• Gavatron07 (8/5): Suited us perfectly - This motel has a lot going for it. It is close to the CBD, the lake, main sportsgrounds and not too far from the hospital (if like us that's the reason for your stay). It is an older establishment but it is clean, warm and comfortable. We found it very good value for money especially when you factor in the continental breakfast and newspaper to start the day. The upstairs unit we were in had everything we needed and we slept well. (We thought we might have noticed traffic noise given the steepish street location but in fact at night there was little). It was easy to travel to and from other parts of Hamilton from the street the motel is on.

• MandyC70_13 (6/5): Cosy and warm - We stayed in one of the studio units last weekend. Although the units look a little tired and there were a few stains in the carpet, overall it is clean warm and comfortable. The couple at reception was very friendly and welcoming. We had breakfast delivered to our unit the next morning which showed up exactly on time and was good. Very good beds, and handy location as it's not too far from the city centre. All in all, we had a good experience and would stay again.
