I love hoe close it is to the shops, cafes and restaurants. Owner Deb is lovely. I also had to use laundry facilities and appreciated the 15 min wash. Very clean comfortable apartments with a cafe right across the road. Nothing. It's the second time weve stayed this year and have liked both rooms. There is a pub with live music on next door, but it finishes early and with closed doors it was no problem.

- Katie (8/5): Excellent location. Russell village fabulous and lots of great cafes, restaurants and bars available. - Great location, great laundry, lovely staff. Very comfortable bed, immaculate linen. Spacious accommodation for four of us. Nice to have access to BBQ. Fancy new microwave/ air fryer oven. Very limited equipment in kitchen, small number of salt and pepper sachets, and only one baking tray. Most people possibly not cooking much but we were there for a week which included Easter Sunday. So we had to buy all the extras like oil, kitchen roll, salt, pepper etc. Living room seating furniture a bit tatty.
- Rowena (9/5): A charming and comfortable alternative to Paihia - Friendly and welcoming host - two very cute Border Terriers were an added bonus. Fantastic location across the road from a great coffee shop, and easy one minute walk to ferry wharf on the strand. The whole of Russell is such a quaint, well-preserved village, and the Seaport Village beautifully maintains the look and feel of a bygone era. Our cabin even had a lovely private deck which allowed plenty of cross-ventilation. Plenty of parking. Brilliant stargazing from Flagstaff Hill - recommend you drive up for a visit after dark. Beds were a bit soft for my liking, but still had a good night’s sleep (even managed to sleep through the torrential rain brought by Cyclone Vaianu). Russell does not do good street lighting, and the Seaport Village, like most Russell businesses, does not have any lighting on their business sign, so if you arrive after dark, you might have trouble finding the entrance to the car park. The pub next door was a bit noisy on the Friday night, but they finished by midnight.

- Claire (7/5): Great location to base yourself in Russell - Great location. Nice sized apartment. Unfortunately it was not very clean. It has a lovely wooden floor but it was not very clean. Under the beds, in the wardrobes and under the rugs was thick dust. Also minimal equipment in kitchen, it was fine for us but a few additions like cooking oil, foil, wooden spatula and maybe a wok would be good.

We left a message for the manager whose voicemail said they didn’t listen to messages. We told the cleaner. We rigged up a system ourselves with tape to ensure we could get in, but the manager never came back to us and the handle was not fixed during our 6 night stay. This is poor customer service.

- Gilly (8/5): This is an excellent place to stay in Russell close to everything you need to enjoy the relaxing village. The hotel is - Perfect location. Great space in the apartment. Laundry facility. Parking. Friendly and very helpful staff. The skylights in the bedroom are a potential issue as light comes in pretty early. The bathroom is huge but the shower is quite small as is the vanity.

The lounge had a twin couch, two chairs and a little coffee table, as well as a small dinner table with two chairs. The bed was huge and comfortable and so were the pillows. The bathroom was decent and the shower spacious. The kitchen was fully equipped with a cooktop, stove, microwave and full fridge. My fave thing was the little table and chairs in front of the studio which we used morning and night. The space was open, clean and the linen was good. AND the accommodation was literally a minutes walk from the waterfront shops and restaurants . Just loved it!

The appartment is spacious, bright and has a great balcony. Plenty of parking space on the property. No personal contact on arrival. When checking-in we found that the appartment had not been properly cleaned; similarly the idle reception. An extra round of cleaning, however, transformed it into a truly pleasant place.

The bench needs a plug at the other side. Having a hairdryer available was great but with no plug in the bathroom to plug the dryer into wasn’t great.

- Keyla (5/5): Convenient location for what we wanted to explore. - Convenient location. Noisey- Suite E is not sound proof to the point that you could hear the people upstairs using the toilet. The drainage passes right through the Suite which sounds like an external gutter inside. Didn’t sleep the nights that the Suite was used upstairs. It was hard to contact the ‘manager’ as no-one was in reception at all until our last morning. I hope that the new owners can turn this around as I love Russell and would love to go back again.

We have stayed there a few times and everytime it's been great. - Fantastic place, right in the heart of town, opposite the RSA and just around the corner from the Nauti Penguin pub. Room was beautiful with wooden floors and pretty furniture. 2 big king beds, great shower, heat pump, overall very very comfy. Friendly greeting when we got there and parking right outside. We had Deluxe unit C and I think E and D are the same. This is the only thing, the WiFi was terrible. It wouldn't stay connected and I couldn't do much on my computer as it was very slow. But that's all, as who wants to work when you're away. 😃

- John (10/5): A Jewel in The Bay of Islands - Todate, the best accommodation we have had in N.Z. The location was terrific, we did not need to use the car during our 2 night stay. Russell was a great place to stay in the Bay of Islands. In hindsight we should of spent our 5 nights at the Bay in Russell and used the ferry to get to Paihia and Waitangi. Our host, Hayden, was very gracious and hospitable. Our unit, #1, felt like our own home. With plenty of room and polished timber floors, even in the bathroom. Russell has so much history to offer and Seaport Village a great and economic place to stay. Having to leave... The establishment is for sale, hopefully it will retain its character. Would love to be able to afford the purchase price....and emigrate to Northland N.Z.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to sleep inside a haunted vacuum cleaner bag, boy, do I have the destination for you! From the moment we arrived at Seaport Village, the ambience hit us—and by ambience, I mean the potent aroma of mildew, despair, and possibly expired hopes. The curtains were the stuff of horror movie set design: moldy, heavy, and clinging to the window like they were trying to escape too. The musty stench could only be described as “Victorian attic meets forgotten basement.” The decor was retro, in the sense that it looked like someone retroactively gave up in 1983. Furniture so old and saggy, even the scatter cushions had given up all hope—they were flatter than my enthusiasm. The carpets? Well, calling them carpets is generous. They were more like fuzzy dirt delivery systems, expertly seasoned with the tears of previous guests. Now let’s talk hospitality. Our complimentary coffee cups came with bonus brown stains on the inside. I like my coffee strong, but not pre-seasoned with biohazards. The fridge had milk that expired during the previous administration and was leaking enough to open a water park for ants. The host’s solution? Slap a towel on it like it was a DIY plumbing YouTube tutorial. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work. Ever. Oh, and the dishwasher leaks too, possibly in solidarity with the fridge. I’d call it a feature—“self-watering floorboards”—but I’m not that generous. The whole place had a thick layer of dust and cobwebs, which added a festive “abandoned witch’s cottage” vibe. I half-expected a raccoon in a smoking jacket to welcome us with, “You’re late.” In conclusion, if you’re into biohazards, antiquated upholstery, and the thrill of possibly catching something airborne, Seaport Village is the perfect getaway. Otherwise, maybe pitch a tent in a landfill—it’ll smell better, and at least you’ll know what you’re in for.

The staff were very good, friendly and informative. The room was cosy and had all the required facilities. The room was dusty with stains on the curtains and cobwebs on the windows.
