Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is really calm and relax. Martin is such a great host, provided us brillant information about the area and was always helpful. There are great amenities such as barbecue, swimming pool, laundry and a little spa. The kitchen and shower are acceptable whereas I’ve seen better in a hostel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The single room had no fan or bar fridge. Those would have made the stay more pleasing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location, great for budget, backpackers and light travels.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staffDidn't likethe noisy neighbours
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The rooms were a great size for our family and it was very clean. Kitchen, bathrooms and showers all close to the room. Excellent helpful staff, more than happy to make recommendations of things to do in the area and helpful suggestions. Would absolutely stay again and highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was in working order. Amenities was clean and tidy at all times.
- Jeff (8/5): Good value - Good value. Comfortable beds. Convenient to facilities.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Helpful staff and for the price was ok
It was a type of park which was not what we expected however was close to the falls and walks
- ross/anne (6/5): not too bad - Staff were friendly. Loved the short walk to the waterfall. Staff gave us lots of option of places to see. Pity didn't get to see ALL though.
- Karen (2/5): Not what you expect - The room was unclean - blood on the sheets, cobwebs under the top bunk. When you book a studio you would normally expect a kitchenette or some sort of running water - not here. Very expensive for what you get. I would say this should be classed as a dormitory room - nothing more. Misrepresentation is the word that comes to mind.
- Andrew (8/5): A lovely base for visiting the Whangarei region - The family studio cabin, while compact, is well laid out and easy to ventilate well. Beds are comfortable and the kitchenette well equipped. The shared toilet, shower and cooking facilities are dilapidated but adequate and functional. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and always happy to spend time chatting even during their busy schedule of chores. There is a nice variety of guests, and most were easy to get to know while sharing the kitchen, so the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable.
- matt (10/5): close to all the shops u need - best place ever kids did not want to leave being so close to the waterfall and only a 30 min car ride to all the beachs would saty here angin.kids keep asked can we go back this year agin it was so good.
- Raewyn (2/5): Has a pool - Horrible it's run down beds.make.So much noise you can't sleep was rude to me.over a accident
- Shirley (10/5): Liked it - Had a really nice stay. I stayed longer then I had planned. The guys were super, showed me around when I got there and told me of lots of cool stuff to do while I was there. My cabin was clean and the bed was very comfortable.
- Carol (10/5): Small camp which packs a punch. - A small, friendly camp with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The cabins were spacious and had a kitchenette with breakfast bar, kettle and microwave so we were able to prepare our meals there. The communal kitchen was large and well stocked with cooking equipment.
The swimming pool and spa were a great bonus, perfect after a day out snorkelling at the Poor Knights! Also plenty of clotheslines with pegs provided for drying off all our togs and towels.
The owner is very friendly and accommodating, he happily provided us with an extra pillow and can give you plenty of options of activities around Whangarei. The Falls are a very short walk from the camp, very spectacular with a short walkway down to the bottom and back up through a shady forest track. Perfect for an evening stroll.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not too bad - Room was good but a bit pricey for what you get. Compared to others we stayed.for the ssme price. Great help from the staff with things yo do in the area.
- Tara (6/5): Misleading listing. This is a hostel. - I booked this room on Hotels.com which said there was a "partially open bathroom" in contrast to some other rooms at the same place which listed shared facilities. I was surprised on arrival to find the bathroom and showers several buildings away. The cabin was coupled with another and not very private. I was also near the road so I heard plenty of passing cars. The room was very basic with a bunk bed, twin over full with a tired mattress, a shelf and a couple of small tables. No towels, no sink or clock. It did have a mirror. The manager was very nice, explained that it is a hostel and lent me a towel. He said he would check into the information on the site. Check in was easy and the manager gave me some info on a walking path nearby. The location is outside of town but right next to Whangarei Falls, which are lovely. There is a Countdown grocery store close, but most things in Whangarei close up early on a Sunday and finding dinner after 8 PM was a treasure hunt. On the positive side, I never waited for a toilet or shower and there is a community kitchen and tv lounge in other buildings. Wifi required a code on a voucher given at checkin (500gb). It was not an incredible bargain; often I can get ensuite room for the same price in a small town. There is an unheated pool and a spa, but the spa closes up by 9:30. It was a bit of an adventure but mostly it was a surprise as I felt misled by the listing.
- joy & steve (8/5): Nice spot - Handy to the Falls, lovely to walk about, still close to Whangarei.
- Cookie (8/5): Cosy Retreat - Greeted with a friendly smile and very helpful. Peaceful environment and comfy beds. Kids were reluctant to leave. Great for short stays.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great staff - The staff was very friendly and helped us when we wanted. I'm looking forward visiting again :)
- Talra (10/5): Awesome vibe - Absolutely welcoming owners.
Friendly always ready to help with anything you want or need to know.
Two cats on site are friendly with beautiful natures and well groomed and looked after.
The hot pool was a dream nice and quiet great location.
Will definitely be back many more times
Thank you for your great hospitality
- deepseaoyster (6/5): Budget accommodation - Very basic cabin with bed. Linen provided, only one blanket for each bed in winter although had no one else staying with us so scored the other blanket and cabin had oil heater which we kept on all night. Spa pool was only open for 1st night of our stay & closed on Saturday night for 2 days with no explanation. Budget cabins are furthest from the bathroom facilities. On the plus side area is very well lit up with automatic sensor lights.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staffs are very gentle, they have a great sense of humor and showed me heaps of stuff I can do in Whangarei. The disappointed point was, I've got a lot of flea bites when I slept on the bed and the room smells a bit of mold. And you have to walk to the bathroom showroom and kitchen in order to do everything.and There is no space to eat your food other than BBQ place. It is terrible when the weather condition is bad and cold but it may be good on sunny summer time.
- Ulrich (10/5): Great budget option in Whangarei close to Falls - We (my wife and I from NZ as well as my cousin and his partner from Germany) booked at short notice on the day after deciding that we would make it to Whangarei after all. We often travel with guide dogs in training and normally let accommodation providers know about this in advance. In this case, I either didn't spot the notes field on Expedia's mobile site or it wasn't offered to me, so the staff didn't know that we had a dog in tow. Guide dogs (including those being puppy walked) have right of access to all types of commercial accommodation in New Zealand - but not everyone in the business knows this! This caused a bit of upset on check-in as the park is normally no-dogs, but to his great credit, Martin the manager accepted us & really came to the party with great suggestions as what to see and do - quite a lot of which I as a frequent visitor to Whangarei hadn't known, and way too much to see while we were there (so will have to check some of it out next time!). Thanks for the tips, Martin, and thanks for helping us train our pup by giving him an experience that will help him become a well-rounded guide dog.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Stay - Great budget accommodation with helpful staff. Quiet location and very clean room. Basic but comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good, budget friendly hostel - We were looking for a place to stay and this hostel did not disappoint. Staff were friendly and rooms were clean. It was a good 5 minute walk to Whangarei falls.
Our host was nice enough to give us yips on where to go.
We booked a studio with a bunk bed and a double bed. Linens were provided as well as cutlery. Bathroom, toilets, laundry, barbeque and kitchen were shared but were good enough for the price.
Great for backpackers and families looking for a good place tosleep after exploring the wonderful sights of Whangarei
- Henry (4/5): Not recommended for looking for a studio room. - The studio room just had a bed, a chair and NOTHING else.
- warren (8/5): Good place to stay for backpackers - Local area had beautiful trails!
- Belinda (8/5): Nice stay, close to town without the noise - It was pleasant. No concerns about staying here again.
- David (8/5): - Good stay, but didn't like the office being closed from 10am to 2pm. Plenty of parking. Could have used a sink in the room. Right next to the falls, but a bit far from town-5 miles. Beds were ok. Bathrooms were across the parking area, but not far. Nice outdoor communal area to chat with people; indoor one too.
- Lesley (10/5): A very friendly holiday park - We had a great time. The facilities were clean, for example the BBQ and area, showers, toilets, cabin and kitchen. The host was very friendly and informative. The proximity to the Falls was awesome and was a great walk. Close to Whangarei township if you need to go to the movies or shopping.
Great venue:)
- Dimitri (8/5): Not too bad - It was ok, everything as expected. Kitchen is a bit small and gets busy.
- Anne (10/5): - for the price very good value. The showers were great with plenty of room and hooks unlike the ones in Europe..
- A (8/5): Excellent staff and service - The staff which includes the owner who is very hands on are very friendly and knowledgeable. If you've never been to Whangarei they can tell you the highlights and how to get there. The place is only small but great, the pool and spa are well maintained. The only downside is that there are only 4 showers, 2 for the men and 2 for the ladies, but that's because there isn't any more space to put extra showers. Overall a good place to stay :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Highly recommended - We had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms was as expected standard and neat. Would definately visit Whangerei waterfall park again!!!
- Rangi (10/5): Time away with the Grandchildren - Had an amazing time at the campground. the grandchildren spent everyday in the pool. Facilities were great, close to all amenities. The best was the children had a great time and I was able to relax and enjoy myself as well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome stay my son and nephews really enjoyed it. - Staff were friendly and inviting, venue awesome, excellent for what we needed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): The perfect last minute solution on a budget - Staff made the stay from good to great! Neat setup on a tight budget
- sierra (10/5): Great stay - It was me and my family who rented a cabin. The room was extremely clean. The staff was informative and helpful. Loved the spa and pool. Great place to stay. Would come back again for sure!
- H (8/5): Good sleep! - We found the accommodation here to be of a reasonable price, well located for our trip around Northland and suitable for a good night's sleep!
- rbr (6/5): Only 1 night - My room was very near of the road and it was noisy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Basic but comfortable and everything I needed it to be. Would stay here again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good stay overall but someone was turning on the music until 12am which is annoying.
- laverne (8/5): Lovely accomadating staff. Grreat for families nx - Totally enjoyed our stay. Been coming here for last 8 years. Group ranging from 5-'20 over the years.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Owner is extremely helpful & knowledgeable about places to visit & things to do around the area. We stayed in the cabins which were very comfortable & accessible to all of the cooking, bathrooms & toilets.
- Verified traveler (8/5): The staff were great - Free wifi kids loved the pool and spa. Laundry facilities were expensive. Close to falls but car needed for access to town. Clean and tidy cabin.
- Susie (10/5): Great Location - Nice and private, quite and friendly. My children wish to return for Xmas.
- Claire (10/5): Very friendly and affordable - Had a great stay at Whangarei Falls Holiday Park over the weekend. Our 4 kids loved the spa/pool and kicking a ball around. The cabin is small for a family of six, but this did not bother us as we are used to travelling and being in close proximity. Host is very friendly, couldn't be more helpful and we found everything to be organised, clean and tidy. We came for a sports tournament and if we come again next year this is where we would stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A nice place but very basic. I got what I paid for though.
- Lubos (8/5): Good one night stay. - Staff was very helpful. Close to the waterfalls. Room was well maintained.
