• Oleg (8/5): A pleasant lodge that appears to cater well for conferences. - Location with ridge top views and accommodation were comfortable. On arrival 10 minutes before check-in at 3 we were told we were “early” and had to wait an hour before the room was ready (they were short staffed on account of a conference). After an hour the lovely Monique offered a coffee or drink while we waited, but overall, not a welcoming arrival. At dinner, though nice, it was a bit let down by very ordinary cold rolls and salt and pepper shakers rather than grinders. For the money, it felt more like a cafe approach. The food was nice but unfortunately neither of the two wines that we ordered were available as apparently they were out of stock., even though still on the wine list. The milk in the room fridge had to be returned to reception as it had curdled and out of date.

The main lodge is absolutely stunning. A few menu items, including drinks, were unavailable during our stay, which was disappointing, especially as we were there to celebrate a birthday. Aside from that, the staff were lovely, and the location and views were stunning. Spa bath out of order for renovation. Somethings look tired.

Dinner menu very limited, we managed with bar snacks but quite disappointing considering how remote the location. Found breakfast very disappointing. The rooms were a distance from the main house and given the weather we decided to drive up to the house. The narrow steep and twisty 5km gravel drive to the house should be flagged up more prominently. No TV in the room.

Luscious grounds and with nature. Beautiful lounges. Superb and kind staff. Excellent food. The spa bath didn’t work. The patio furniture was dirty and not as hoped and no side table on patio.

A hidden treasure - so close, yet so far! - We loved the relaxed, welcoming environment, the feeling of simple luxury in a beautiful, private setting, and the friendly, helpful staff - will definitely book it again! A few small things like broken slats on venetian blinds at entry which spoils first impressions, a few hooks on curtains missing resulting in a drooping curtain. Windows needed a bit of a clean to enhance what are ammazing views. Debris from lawn mowing and leaves if cleared from just around unit would have added just a bit more of a wow factor. Appreciate the time of year but little detail s can sometimes add just an extra dimension to a special location.

A massive call out to Tanisha, the General Manager. You and your staff are 2nd to none. You are friendly, helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable of the area. And the young ladies working with you are fantastic too. The room was large with a separate bathroom fitted with THE best shower EVER! ..and a spa bath that WAS NOT working. 😭 Bed and room were super comfortable. BIG tip, it is pricey, but eat at the Lodge restaurant at least once. (The food is 3 course fine dining, and it is deeee vine! And do the breakfast as well. I will recommend Woodhouse Mountain Lodge very strongly. The spa not working. The carparking. (It is a walk to and from the car to the villa, and it should be noted that it is steep. (Be warned if you are mobility impaired). 5ks of loose metal driving, and tight corners. (Personally, I loved it. But if you are an inexperienced, or not a confident driver,....). Personally, the carpark and the spa are the only reason I can not give this a 10.

We were lucky that over the 5 km journey we did not come across an approaching car… it was uncomfortable. A small criticism noted by all members of our small party was how shabby the restaurant staff were dressed serving dinner… white T-shirts which were out of character with the rest of the service.

• Theshani (9/5): Great location to escape on a weekend - The location is great to escape for a one night and one and half hour drive from Auckland South. Very close to Matakana Village for one day travel. Our villa is clean and had all the amenities that we need. The TV was missing, so we weren’t able to enjoy watching Netflix and relaxing. Additionally, the fireplace wasn’t working we requested for it to be fixed, but no one came. The mattress was also quite uncomfortable.

There needed to be more attention on cleaning the cobwebs away and clean the bugs off the sills. Beyond that, it is a lovely place for special break.

• Julie (8/5): Tranquil, relaxing and comfy despite a cyclone! - Lovely accomodation in beautiful, peacefully remote setting. Villas have great privacy and views. Very comfy bed and the breakfasts were delicious! Second time we have stayed and I’m sure we will return as we love it here. Staff are wonderful too. Only suggestion is that unit 15’s bathroom (although lovely and spacious) may need some attention. There was a slight damp/mould smell coming from the wooden vanity. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay even in a cyclone!
• Ramona (9/5): Perfect little getaway - Beautiful location, close to home but still felt like a remote escape for a night away Quiet, rural setting. Fireplace in room was amazing. Breakfast was really good, better than dinner!
