Guest Reviews
- Cynthia (8/5): - The hotel was on a beautiful piece of property. I enjoyed listening to the birds sing. The room was comfortable and the breakfast very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. While the room was warm, the public areas were quite cold. The bathroom shower was great but more lighting and a different sink/faucet combo would be helpful as well as a door. Everything was clean.
- Jackie (10/5): - Awesome place! The best/hotel/motel bed I’ve slept in.
Breakfast was great. So handy to the airport too. I’ll be staying there again on my next visit to NZ via Hamilton.
- Janae (10/5): - beautiful scenery, lovely staff, great room, and the bath was amazing
- Natasha (10/5): - Loving peaceful place to stay while in the anrea for work. Easy check in. Large spacious bedroom and bathroom. Note there are stairs to bedrooms. Lovely outdoor area. I also enjoyed the continental breakfast which was included with my room. I would stay again.
- Scott (10/5): - Lovely clean property off the beaten track just a bit which means it’s supper quiet and relaxing - will stay again
- kev (10/5): - Its close to the airport but it is quiet.
Only shame no full resturant on site
- Deborah (10/5): - Beautiful 😍
- Ricky (8/5): - Beautiful surroundings and property, the accommodation was lovely and the bed super comfortable, the building is showing signs of needing some TLC but overall it was a lovely building and facilities.
Staff were accomodating,a well presented continental breakfast was provided.
Our only criticism was the traffic noise which couldnt be helped and the high up window with no way to block out the light.
Also there was no lift available which made it difficult to carry heavy cases to our room.
Staff were very helpful and friendly.
- StsGermany (6/5): Not really good but not bad... - Stayed for one night while passing through.
We chose it due to its proximity to the motorway and Hobbiton. The hotel is set in a beautiful, park-like green area. However, the rustic hotel has definitely seen better days. When we arrived in the evening, the place felt rather bleak, as there was absolutely nothing going on.
The welcome from the owner was warm, though. Since the hotel no longer has its own restaurant, we received good recommendations for dining out. The room matched the rustic style—which you have to like. For us, it was a bit too rustic. That said, the bed was comfortable and the shower worked as it should. Overall it was clean.
The only downside was that the room faced the street, so it was a bit noisy on that side of the hotel.
We were positively surprised by breakfast the next morning. We hadn’t booked it separately, but it was included. Our expectations were low, but it offered everything you need in the morning. They even offered us fruit to take away. The staff member in the morning was also very courteous and friendly.
All in all, The Narrows Landing—which in my opinion has potential—is neither great nor truly bad. It fit perfectly into our travel. itinerary, so all in all, it was fine.
- Chris (8/5): Overnight stop - Overnight stop on a longer trip
- rayjaybossmumma (8/5): Great find - I booked this through an online site and was so pleasantly surprised on arrival to find such a stunning looking place. The grounds are stunning especially as it's autumn. Check in was swift and pleasant. Was nice to have a continental breakfast included the next morning in the beautiful and sunny dining room. The room was on the basic side for such a stunning place-but it had everything we needed. Just lacked the wow factor. The bathroom door was a bit strange with it being like a saloon style/barn door with no top or bottom. Privacy was an issue but we made it work. But we enjoyed our stay none the less.
- Gwen K (10/5): - Property was really nice and quiet, surrounded by a lush forest. We enjoyed the continental breakfast, had a good variety. I would suggest more towel hooks in the bathroom. There was only 1 hook that held 2 towels. Also, only 1 chair in the room. Not comfy if you’re a party of two. I ended getting a chair from the dining area. Other than that, this was a nice relaxing stay for us.
- PAMELA (10/5): - The suite was gorgeous and very tastefully decorated. We loved the calm environment and quietness of the property. The rustic charm was unique and a lovely change. Breakfast was adequate and enjoyable. The lady who checked us in early was really accommodating which enabled us to leave our luggage in the room and set off to clean the hire car which was very helpful and time saving for us, and much appreciated. Only minor, but curtain hook on one window needs fixing into the track as we had to place a chair there in order to block out the light and give us privacy.
- Roman (10/5): - Quant Lodge with accommodating staff. Nice views. Great experience overall.
- Ttash51 (4/5): Find another hotel in town - It started poorly when we were told that they could not find our reservation, but we were lucky because someone had just a cancellation. The room was dated and had a large step up to the bathroom which was thru a bar door. There were no plug-in for electronics(USB). There was also a large window in part of the ceiling, letting light come into room from outside lamps and morning sunlight. They have no restaurant but provided a poor continental breakfast spread. Only positive was that the staff was friendly, not helpful. Our worst hotel in Australia and New Zealand.
- Pao-Ting (10/5): - Property is very charming and has a mansion feel to it. It is away from the city center so you will need a car to go around but a 10 minutes drive you will be in the city. Has lots of parking spaces plus a well groomed yard that you can enjoy. Would definitely stay here again
- LeeG51 (2/5): I would not stay here - When we checked in they had no record of our reservation even though we had a confirmation number. No restaurant on site but they do have free continental breakfast. Refrigerator in room. No usb ports, no robes, no bath mat, no elevator you have to carry luggage upstairs.
- Nzelaina (6/5): - Nice location. Reasonable rooms. Big bath is nice.
Worth trying out
- Kevin (8/5): - It was close to my ultimate destination.
I did not like the lack of a one site resturant and also the room had two narrow steps just inside the room door
- Kate (10/5): - The rooms were so beautiful! We enjoyed our stay so much
- Mickey J (10/5): Beautiful retreat - Beautiful quaint property. Property was very nice with walkways to a beautiful river and forest.
- Marian (10/5): - All good.
- C (8/5): Would stay again - Nice quite place to stay, although a small conference was on while we were there. Stairs are a problem if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage. Free parking but down at the bottom of a hill. Could be cold in winter as it has steel framed windows that don't seal all that well (i.e. drafty gaps). We would stay again mainly because it suits ours needs and is close to family who live in Hamilton.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Peaceful hotel - Quiet and serene but far from centre.
Room is dark, would be nice to have extra lighting.
- Mattie (10/5): - This place is a little gem tucked away from the main highway. Its a great property
- Verified traveler (10/5): Love The Narrows - The Narrows was such a unique hotel. Although it is near the airport, it feels very secluded and quiet. The breakfast was simple, but so good!
- David (10/5): - The rooms have really nice charm and are large. The bathrooms have a standing shower stall and a separate bathtub too. It is right off Highway 21, near the airport, so the only negative would be the noise from the truck traffic. The property landscaping is nice too.
- John (10/5): - A great facility who made my nieces wedding an amazing day.
- ArthurC373 (10/5): A very enjoyable and interesting stay with comfort and convenience! Loved it! - This accomodation was booked by my daughter in Perth WA, for a double birthday celebration very easily, the receptionist NICOLE was very knowledgeable and fulfilled our room requirements exactly, with beautifully presented rooms with super comfortable beds.
Architectural details where fascinating as was constructed on a steel frame for main building but included joinery, the grounds were impeccable comment was some simulated sheep would be a fantastic addition! Photo opps with children!
We would recommend the NARROWS LANDING to our discerning friends and travellers requiring a comfortable, friendly, and convenient to Hamilton airport and lovely restaurant at Jet park hotel.

- Julia (10/5): - a very pretty motel with an Air BNB or guesthouse vibe , the owner was very welcoming the room was pre heated modern furnished and very comfortable . the shower had great water pressure and the continental breakfast in the morning was very generous would happily stay there again
- David (10/5): - Beautiful settings, very quiet
- Maryann (8/5): - The stay was very enjoyable, loved the bath.
- Stephen (10/5): - Lovely hotel and grounds. Quiet, with a really good breakfast.
- Jacqueline (8/5): - Bathroom didn’t have door
- Randy (10/5): - Wonderful staff who accommodated our very late arrival. Room was clean and well appointed. The having to go up a few steps to get into the bathroom took a little getting used to, but when you know the history of the building it was understandable. Great place, I highly recommend it.
- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful Property - Beautiful property. Very peaceful. Good location. Staff not on site 24 hrs. Would recommend.
- sindyh786 (10/5): Beautiful countryside retreat - Beautiful heritage building. Large bedrooms and bathrooms. Very comfortable beds. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Gorgeous gardens. Great countryside location but close to all Hamilton attractions like The Sculpture Park, lavender farm and Hamilton Gardens
- AITKENFAMILY2014 (10/5): Great weekend - Perfect wedding venue - We stayed early Nov 2023 for our sons wedding. The accommodation is very clean and everything there that you need. Large bathrooms and there was plenty of water and milk provided in the fridge on the first floor. The beds were large and comfortable. The venue for weddings is perfect, plenty of parking and room for large groups in the common areas. The reception room is perfect with a view from all the windows it makes a great backdrop for the photos. The grounds are very well kept and it was a delight to stay there. The staff are so attentive, hard working and so friendly and efficient. Check in was a breeze, very informative and helpful. The continental breakfast was very well catered for starting the day. Thank you everyone at The Narrows Landing, I will be highly recommending to family and friends.
- Cheryl (8/5): - Beautiful place to stay, close to airport but quiet would definitely stay again
- Michelle (10/5): - Great place to dind
- Hayley (10/5): - Gorgeous location, lovely staff and a beautiful breakfast
- Lucien (8/5): - Over priced
- Kevin (10/5): - That it was just out of town but still close to activities
It was children Friendly where they had space which was safe from road traffic.
Private setting ,
Many thanks to Personal whom we had contact with.
- Kevin (10/5): - The Narrows is stunning! The property is beautiful with the variety of plants and well maintained grounds. The architecture was very impressive. I wish I would have been able to stay more nights. This is the most perfect wedding or event space I have ever stayed at.
- Grant (10/5): - Had an awesome stay here. Peaceful and quiet
- Debra (10/5): - The location was great, away from others
The rooms were nice and warm and clean
The building was quirky and unique which I loved, something different
- Steve (8/5): - Friendly staff and helpful.
- John (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, everyone ver welcoming, thank you.
- David (10/5): - It was really comfortable and convenient for us
- Marek (8/5): - The room was spacious and clean, with a comfortable bed. One of the windows was difficult to keep closed. The bathroom had a weird little sink, more like a bowl than a sink, which made it difficult to use and let to water splashing everywhere. Similarly, the shower enclosure is too small or needs some sort of door, as the water is splashing all over the bathroom when showering. Overall, it is a nice place to stay and I would stay again in the future of in the area.
- Karalyn (10/5): - Beautiful little spot amongst the trees. Thank you we loved it
- Anne (8/5): - Quaint property. Room was unique and door and window locks ancient. Check in time was 7pm, but our plane arrived late. The receptionist was amazing and came in to open reception for us at 9:30pm. She was so accommodating and polite and even helped us with our bags up the stairs. She also recommended a wonderful little walk to Blue Spring...fabulous. We would stay there again.
- Ross (10/5): - Awesome stay, comfortable, quiet, relaxed. Quirky and interesting building and great how it was built from recycled steel and native timber. Definitely will return !!!
- David (10/5): - Our stay was very nice and relaxing. The Host was extremely friendly, polite and very accommodating . Unfortunately the weather didnt play ball and we couldnt use the lovely outdoor setting area for a drink a x njog the surroundings but hopefully next time.
- Patrick (10/5): - Lovely place to stay run by lovely people
- Charmayne (10/5): - We loved that it was so quite and relaxing. We left there after a two night stay feeling very refreshed.
Only thing that would have made it better was if there was a small fridge in our room
Thanks for a great stay
- Amy (8/5): - The building and decor is gorgeous. Staff were amazing.
- Helen (10/5): - It is so pretty. The garden is beautiful and our room was lovely
- Bridget (8/5): - If they provided a drop off and collection service from local venues (eg Ohaupo) it would be perfect, apart from that my partner and I really enjoyed our stay :)
- Pete (10/5): - Lovely staff and what a beautiful place
- Richard (10/5): - Super nice facility and gardens. would stay here again if I'm in the area
- RedKiwi (10/5): - Handy location off the highway. Gorgeous green surroundings. Warm rustic interior. Fresh and comfortable bed with excellent pillows. Very friendly staff and great complimentary breakfast. Thank you. Will be back again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay, just a couple of challenges. No restaurant or anywhere to heat food
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very comfortable with a rural outlook I enjoyed a lovely glass of wine & a walk through the garden
- clopos (10/5): Amazing place and service - We had a wonderful night at the Narrows Landing. It is a beautiful building and the rooms are architecturally very pretty.
Peaceful grounds and lovely breakfast. Great service. We'd stay here again and even considered having our wedding here if only it were closer to friends/family for us
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property is very quirky, great surroundings and lovely building.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly staff, beautiful property and rooms. Lovely breakfast - everything was totally lovely thank you. I look forward to recommending this hotel to others.
- vpmuscat (10/5): Rustic charm - We booked this hotel after changing from a Rotorua booking as a friend had told us the other hotel had some issues and we were looking somewhere to base ourselves for a couple of days to do Hobbiton, Waitomo Glowworm Caves, Orakei Korako Geothermal Park and Redwoods Treewalk, it was a bit of driving but all doable, the price of the room was very reasonable as the room was a very generous size with a lounge area decent size TV & a huge ensuite & a very efficient air conditioner, with free parking available. Set in a lovely bush setting they also cater for functions, our booking included a continental breakfast each day, there was always a staff member available when we needed assistance and were always happy to help, highly recommended.
- Steven (10/5): Travel nz - Awesome and accommodating
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The old rustic charm was great. The room design made it very comfortable. The only issues were that dining was a distance away. (Approx 15 mins by car) and there was no entertainment ( TV didn’t work properly). Definite 9 out of 10.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly service. Unique design. Quick access to Hamilton and Cambridge
- diane (6/5): Beware, some rooms no fridge - it looks better in the photo!!!! If you book the basic, totara room, it does not have a fridge, so after complaining we were upgraded to a better room which was appreciated. The hotel needs a bit of TLC but overall it was quiet and receptionist was accommodating. There is no restaurant and the bar was not open which was a shame as I"M sure travellers would support instead of going to either Cambridge or Hamilton. I feel there is a few improvements they could do to make it a higher class place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely style. Comfortable and very clean.
The toilet in the room isn’t a full door so bathroom privacy wasn’t available but it was lovely overall
- LauraW523 (6/5): Big room but could be improved easily - Appreciated the very late check in. Room was large, warm, and comfortable. It's lovely to hear the birds in the morning. We found the room very dark due to lack of lighting. Access to a small fridge and microwave would be appreciated. I had heatpacks but no where to heat them. The toilet situation is interesting. The door has a massive gap under it (like a rustic saloon door with 40cm gap top and bottom) so be prepared to hear each other do their business. There is also no fan/window to get rid of any smells.
- ElisabethH1498 (4/5): Big room and small breakfast - We stayed for only one night; the room was big. Several rooms share the same terrace, which was a bit odd. Strange that the door to the bathroom could’t be locked.
Both the room and breakfast area were cold.
The breakfast was rather limited as well as the service.
The hotell could have been nice, but it was missing atmosphere.
- Chris (10/5): - Very nice setting & Service
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to Hamilton, only 10 to 15mins in heavy traffic. Good breakfast and clean rooms. Happy with the stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gorgeous situation grounds staff room everything just so lovely
- Jennifer (10/5): - This place is truly a gem!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a beautiful place, very clean, quiet and all around fabulous. Internet connection is very poor. If you need to work that can be frustrating. Breakfast was fresh and great.
- KenT (8/5): - Quiet place to stay, although we could hear cars speeding on roads close by during the late night hours. Room had an unpleasant smell when we arrived and a very squeaky floor (Room 206) but had a working heat pump, big shower, clean towels, comfy pillows and hot cuppa facilities. No lighting outside or in the carpark which was awkward, annoying and a bit scary. Continental brekkie was sufficient and consistent (based on 2nd time staying at Narrows). Staff seemed too busy/preoccupied. Note: no dinner facilities onsite although it shows online that there is a restaurant. Lots of nearby places within 2-8kms to drive to for lunch/dinner.
- HeatherBallantyne (10/5): Luxury, rural boutique hotel at budget prices. What a find! - This hotel is rural but very close to the city and the airport. If you have a rental car you can travel to both in a few minutes, and there are many fine cafes in near proximity. Each room is different and the building is mainly made of recycled materials, so our windows were stained glass from an old house by the looks, and the stairs looked like recycled factory stairs. Large rooms, comfy beds, great heater for the zero degree frost. A large bathroom with a bath. I couldn't find a mirror in the room or anywhere in the bathroom to plug in the hairdryer, so I dried blind. The rural setting is peaceful and our window looked out on cows, sheep and horses. We were a family party for a wedding and booked 4 rooms. The rooms came with a lovely continental breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quirky building, rural setting, lots of light, great continental breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice :) the only thing would be the temperature inside the building especially for breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very large room, picturesque setting. Bed was very comfortable. Appreciated having the fridge and kettle in room.
- Sharon (8/5): - The bed wasn’t the best. 2 king singles pushed together. Roll together and not very comfortable
- KenP (10/5): - Such a beautiful, peaceful atmosphere. Lovely room and balcony, great heating and views, friendly staff and tasty continental breakfast.
- 231shelaght (8/5): Pleasant Surprise - What a great find in the Narrows Landing.our room was large and comfortable and the added bonus of the window near the roof gave the opportunity to lie in bed and watch the stars. The bathroom was large with a great spa bath .
The comex is unique with lots of interesting furnushings and nooks and crannies. It is also a wedding and convention venue but these dont impact on accommodation guests.
The owners and hosts were very nice and willing to go the extra mile for their guests. Housekeeping staff were lovely and also willing to talk to guests. The property is out of town but not to far from other cafes and restaurants. There are large grounds to enjoy.
We loved our stay and will go back again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the location, quiet and the style of place.
Clean and big rooms. Breakfast fantastic
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Although their internet site stated their was a restaurant and bar there wasn't. No fridge available. No staff available. Mosquitoes in the room meant we had no sleep and no staff to complain to.
- Mike (10/5): Would Stay Again - Group of 16. Everyone very happy with the accommodation and even went out of their way to have breakfast earlier than normal as we had an event to attend
- doublejsmallwoods (8/5): Nic and Sarah's wedding - Venue location great.
Character passable.
Staff attentive
Function great.
Downside, we rented most rooms for wedding function. The apartment room had leaking toilet, open and close fridge door and the freezer door would open.this caused a flood in the kitchen. The oven had to be turned on using a tooth pick.
Apparently, these faults have been known for a while.
Upon check out no refund was offered.
Will be seeking restitution through court.
Would we use it again for a wedding No, not if staying there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - the Landing is of rustic construction and has a very earthy welcoming homely feel to it, so you just feel at home. great.,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel building is unique in character and appeals to me. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable and contained all accessories essential to a nice and enjoyable stay.
- Madkiwismarketing (10/5): Lovely property - Perfect Venue - I will attending a business event at Mystery Creek Event centre in Hamilton and I wanted to be close to the centre to eliminate time delays each morning.
A colleague and I stayed at The Narrows Landing - Lets just say we'll stay here again. Great Service, Good breakfast, Rooms are a good size and clean. Plenty of space outside to sit and enjoy a refreshment from the bar.
I really liked the style of The Narrows and location is perfect for the Hamilton Airport and Mystery Creek.
- Alice (8/5): - Close to city but feels quiet and tranquil and private
- BonLov (8/5): Unique place to stay - Quite a lovely place to stay for a 'country getaway'. Unique and quiet surroundings.
I stayed here for a family wedding, so we occupied most of the place. Not all rooms seemed to have the same amenities ie fridge.
I would come and stay here again :)
Pros
- If you are lucky enough to get the apartment or a corner room with a view, it is a delight to view it from bed, or outside with a coffee in hand.
- Quiet (this would be luck of the draw) which is what most people are after.
- Very close to Hamilton ( but not IN) and to the airport.
- Brief but friendly check in.
- I didnt have time to explore the area properly but it looked like there would be some wonderful views or areas to get out and about in.
Cons
- I could see if the hotel was full of people you didnt know, it could be quite noisey. Wooden floors and voices echoed). Also, the verandah around the outside, while lovely as mentioned, means you have to keep your curtains closed so as to keep any peeping toms out.
- breakfast was very basic so dont expect much - basic cereal and toast, with tea and coffee (there was a coffee machine but i was told when asked it wasnt in use).
- Some of the rooms in the apartment section, had no doors to their bathrooms, which could be quite awkward for some people as there is zero privacy there.
- The oven in the apartment also wasnt working, which when there are people arriving pre wedding isnt ideal - they happily let us use their oven though a small inconvience.
Overall - absolutely fine for the price in my opinion.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I friendly welcoming experience and relaxed atmosphere with an excellent breakfast!
- Eamon (10/5): Wonderful sleep - Beautiful hotel and service. Rooms were amazing and very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Beautiful building and surrounding area. Only criticism is that I would like to see small fridge in bedroom. But apart from that I can’t fault it and will definitely be staying again
- Pauline (4/5): - Lovey greeting, no ridge in my rom had won for less prices paid for a room. In the morning handed my keys into the owner, rude and non responsive, was obviously sick with a cold, will not return for future travel.
