Guest Reviews
- Trudie (9/5): Beautiful location and relaxing stay - will definitely be back - Beautiful location, amazing views, lovely gardens and surrounds.
Loved the design and spaciousness of accommodation - good having the bedrooms away from the living area.
Good facilities in the accommodation Humidity in living room in afternoons
- Ben (8/5): Compared to other options around the island this seemed about as good as it gets - Very quiet location ideal for a couple The bbq was so dirty we didn’t use it but there were plenty of clean stainless steel bbqs around the island
- Kristen (8/5): Shear water villas a stunning stay outside the main town. We loved the views of our balcony & the relaxed feel. The - The stunning views & location!!! We had our wedding on the property which was absolutely the best!! The advertising on booking.com was false. We thought we were booking the large house with surrounding ocean views. However no it was a 2 storey tree house instead. It was our wedding & honeymoon so it was rather disappointing.
- Debra (8/5): Views of the bay - Lovely location, quiet and private with exceptional views of the bay
Staff were helpful when required Slightly outdated and required some maintenance to update some areas. Eg outside shade cloth was not nailed down and very dirty, Bathroom sink was blocked. Otherwise we loved the stay .
- Sally (10/5): Excellent - Paradise at your doorstep Nothing
- Keralee (9/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): If you want privacy, peace and an incredible view, then Shearwater is unbeatable. - The million dollar view from the front house and the fact that it is a little away from town allowing for a beautifully quiet and peaceful getaway. Nothing.
- Vanessa (7/5): Stunning Norfolk ... not just for the Oldies! - The property had magnificent views of the ocean and cliffs with a wraparound balcony capturing ocean breezes, the sound of the birds and tropical gardens. Very comfortable beds, very tranquil and private. It could possibly do with a freshen up (paint) and deep clean (lots of cobwebs)
- Hancey (10/5): -
- Julie (9/5): Scenic and enjoyable stay - Beautiful, scenic views and it felt private except for the other guests travelling past the bedroom on their way out. Wonderful gardens and you could walk right to the cliff’s edge. Managers were friendly and welcoming. The beds were comfortable and the villa was very spacious with beach towels. An improvement would have been to include a beach umbrella and beach chairs. Tired old kitchen with cupboard doors that squeaked. All doors in the villa seemed to squeak which is to be expected due to sea air but is a maintenance issue. No advance notice of digging that was occurring right outside the bedroom and below the balcony for most of one morning starting at 8am. Sewer and drain smells from the bathrooms which the manager was endeavouring to fix and apologised for when approached. The terrible rutted road towards town would make me think twice about staying here which is a pity. Probably not enough to turn me off hiring the four bedroom villa for a special stay one day. Our treetops villas was little overpriced at $3500 for the week.
- Rehana (9/5): - great location and house
- John (7/5): - Spectacular location, big, roomy home with all the expected amenities. Met at the airport and escorted to the property by friendly host. Unbelievable location overlooking the penal colony of Kingston far below you. You could spend the entire time sitting outside and enjoying the scenery, the gentle breezes, the faint roar of the surf. Recognising that Norfolk is a long way from the mainland (1600 km) and everything needs to come by boat or plane, the property is a little dated, but very homey. Kitchen could use a refresh, but the overall home is airy and full of light. The property itself is 7 or 8 km from town, down some very potholed roads, but it's only 10 minutes from everything. But that means a short drive to anything.
- Andrea (9/5): Managers pleasant and helpful, views to die for, kitchen well appointed for our needs. Only down side was the mattress - Fabulous position Shower needed some bleach and king sized mattress needs to be replaced
- Peter (8/5): Nice property but shocking access road - The property was nice. Quiet setting - and good views of the Kingston area. The facilities were good - excellent wi fi, TV channels that actually all worked. Had some problem with the hot water, but the hosts were very respsonsive. In fact, the hosts were excellent and always quick to help if there was a problem (which apart from the water, there really weren't any problems). Loved the chooks wandering around, and they became good "friends". The worst part of the property was the road getting there. It is a real shocker. And beware - it is not just a short drive. Appalling road full of potholes for over 2 kilometres and then an absolute shocking dirt road with even worse potholes for another 600 or 700 metres. Driving to and from the property at night is a nightmare - and quite dangerous. If it rains (which it did for only one night while we were there thankfully) the road can be impassable. While we liked the property itself, we would never stay there again because of the shocking state of the road to get there. Dreaded the thought of going to and back from the property to Burnt Pine and the restaurants in town.
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic location, slow pace, pine forests, beaches,Emily beach so lovely views, great restaurants - We supplied our own breakfast, accommodation was equipped with basics, purchased our own food items
Location was amazing, views, privacy,
Helen our host met us at the airport , we had a hire car, we followed her to the property The road access , little rough, pot holes etc. nice to see the cows & chickens roaming freely , they didn’t worry about anything
We had to get in the car to do anything , meals, sightseeing etc, but overall it really was not too much of a drama as the location was super fantastic
Hint buy a local SIM card
- Kate (9/5): -
- Carolyn (10/5): Spacious villa with knock out views - A stunning location with beautiful views. The villa was much more spacious than expected and very well equipped with all we needed. The starer pack was very much appreciated. The manager responded promptly to any of the little things were not working
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Kaye (10/5): Peace and serenity - Shearwater was very peaceful and had stunning views. It was well appointed and Anna and Paul were terrific hosts. The road was challenging.
- Frances (9/5): Very relaxing stay in a beautiful villa on such a picturesque Island. - Just loved our relaxing stay on Norfolk Island.
Our Scenic Villa was so spacious, clean & very comfortable.
Absolutely stunning views from the Villa!
Our Host Charisse was fabulous……So lovely, thoughtful & very helpful.
She met us at the airport where we picked up our car & followed her to the villa where she pointed out places of interest along the way.
A big thanks to Charisse for all her help & to the managers, Anna & Paul for making our stay so memorable. There was nothing to dislike about our stay.
- Kashouli (9/5): Tranquil and secluded place to stay, spectactular scenic views of the ocean. - Nice villa peaceful and quiet place, to wind down. 7 mins drive out of town Clean, good furniture, comfy bed. Roomy, lovely large hexagon deck captures spectacular scenic views of the ocean as well as from the lounge room. You can hear the sound of waves, natural surroundings, great for bird watching. You can walk down a track from your villa to the secluded Bumbora Beach. There are bananas growing in the public picnic and BBQ area and a boardwalk that leads you a sandy shoreline and crystal clear water to swim in and rockpooling. I wish I had gone for swim sooner before the weather got a bit too windy
- Rebecca (9/5): Excellent - Most beautiful location, Charisse and her Manager Katie were exceptional hosts, excellent communication prior to and during stay. Accommodation is extremely comfortable and spacious. The view is amazing and the walk to the beach fantastic! Nothing to mention - it is further from town and you need to drive in to connect with tours etc - but this wasn't really a negative.
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb - Loved the Island & our accommodation. Lovely quiet location for a week of relaxing.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Crockford (10/5): Exceptional -
- Monique (9/5): Wonderful. Perfect for a family occasion to enjoy time and meals together but still able to explore the island - Great location with spectacular views
- Sue (8/5): Very good -
- Bridget (10/5): If you’ve not experienced this bit of paradise you should book right now!!!! - We’ve stayed there before - the view, the pool, the birds, the privacy (and the cows) are all quite spectacular Nothing about the property is bad!!!
- Bich (10/5): Owner & staff were very friendly & helpful. - Amazing ocean view None
- Max (10/5): An amazing location complemented by excellent private accommodation. - Wonderful, peaceful, private, atmospheric, panoramic setting. Excellent kitchen and related facilities. Comfortable bedding and furnishings. Spacious and light-filled rooms. Books and games to entertain and inform. Welcoming local management, as well as the lovely proprietor, Charisse, who also happened to be nearby during our stay. Fabulous pool, which, unfortunately, and despite the best efforts of Charisse to make things right, wasn’t available for our use this time. February is humid, and at times it would have been good to have ceiling fans to make the bedrooms a little less clammy at night. We stayed for 7 nights, and it would have been nice to have the accommodation serviced partway during that period.
- Amanda (9/5): Superb -
- Pamela (4/5): We liked location, views and villa roomy - Manager met us at airport and we followed him to property
- Rehana (8/5): Great choice for a relaxing getaway - Location exceptional, peaceful, well appointed Road access could be better- but this is a general issue with roads in Norfolk Island
- Richard (8/5): A perfect villa for my sister, my husband and I. Plenty of space, lovely views and cool sea breezes. - The location was great - a ten minute drive from the airport with beautiful views looking across to Kingston. The downstairs bedrooms were well laid out each with its own bathroom. Upstairs the wrap around balcony allowed views all directions and sliding doors let in lovely sea breezes. All good
- Mark (9/5): Very well set up and spacious villas with great views. - The villa was a great size and layout and very well equipped. View from deck and rooms was amazing over Creswell Bay, Slaughter/Emily Bay and Kingston Pier. Hosts meet at airport, did a brief orientation drive around town and then led to villas and did walk-thorough of villa. Then left us to own devices unless wanted anything - perfect. BBQing local beef and fresh caught fish on the deck was just great! It not something we didn't like but be aware it would be hard to get around without a hire car - which is the same for any of the accommodation places out of the township unless part of a group tour.
- Andrea (9/5): Superb -
- Keith (9/5): Excellent. Great accommodation and some excellent restaurants nearby. - Position, size, convenience to airport and town. Excellent views over Kingston Barack’s. Norfolk roads are terrible. Getting there was rough. The rest of the island is no better though.
- Pearson (9/5): Relaxing and most enjoyable. - Extremely well presented, clean, comfortable property. The access road.
- Acco53 (10/5): Do yourselves a favour - Absolutely fabulous place to visit, quiet, super comfortable, Jennifer and Richard were fantastic hosts from the moment they met us at the airport to saying goodbye.
- Ben (8/5): Great -
- Yvonne (8/5): Views, location, comfort - We stayed in villa 4 which is a one bedroom villa. Has fantastic views overlooking Creswell Bay and Kingston. Is quiet as away from township and villas are spread out across the property. Managers of property met us at airport and we followed them to the property which was appreciated as our telephones do not work on the island. Also provided avocados and banannas from property for us to use. We celebrated our wedding anniversary while on the island and managers gave us a card which was a very personal and appreciated touch. Villa is very spacious and comfortable. Kitchen has necessary crockery, cutlery and cooking pots and pans but would love to see some extra things like plastic containers to store food in, esky and picnic facilities. BBQ on balcony is great for cooking. Basic supplies were provided including coffee pods, tea bags, milk, sugar, oil, salt and pepper. Bed is comfortable and loved the walk in wardrobe. Love being able to unpack clothes and not live out of a suitcase. Bathroom and kitchen could do with an update.
Couches were comfortable but would love to see 2 large couches that would be big enough to stretch out on.
The roads on Norfolk island are not in the best condition away from Burnt Pine and the main roads. Roads with pot holes need to be navigated to get to this property, this is not a reflection of this property but just the reality of Norfolk Island.
- William (9/5): We loved our stay on Norfolk and would be more than happy to visit again. - The location was superb. Felt safe. The fresh air and views were sublime.
We were very happy with Jennifer & Richard and how they looked after us and advised us. We were satisfied with the overall standard.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning views. Quiet, peaceful with plenty of space. -
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grace (10/5): Hosts lovely. Comprehensive information on arrival. Offline maps a big help. - Location great but access road a little ordinary It was all good.
- Mary (9/5): Excellent view -
- Christine (8/5): Simply superb - Personal greeting All lovely
- Jannette (9/5): It was relaxing, adventurous. Fun - The view was beautiful.
The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The outside area could have a cover over it . Make it more present during the day
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stuart (9/5): Norfolk Island great Shearwater superb 😁 - Great location. Beautiful views very private
- Eileen (10/5): Perfect place to stay at. - The views on this property are extraordinary. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the through breeze at night. The kitchen is well equipped and we would come back here in a heartbeat. Numerous people have identified how challenging the drive to the property is, particularly at night but we got used to it.
What we would have liked was lamps in the living room and bedroom as opposed to the harsh lighting provided, particularly above the bed which was not conducive to reading and falling asleep. Soft night lights for the bathroom would be helpful too. We were grateful for the light provided by our watches to find our way during the night.
- Graham (8/5): Very good - Great location. Hosts met us at airport. Beautiful views. Fairly expensive but probably average for Norfolk Island prices
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional - This was a wonderful location with stunning scenery. The villa was very well equipped and the host tipped us off on grabbing some fresh food to BBQ on the front deck. The villa was also very spacious with wonderful natural light. I highly recommend this property!
- Sylvia (9/5): Superb - Excellent location.
very peaceful. Lovely outlook could have done with a couple of extra bin liners . their were no extras available
- Suzette (10/5): Was relaxing, peaceful and amazing - The view and privacy. Unit was comfortable and spacious There was nothing not to like
- Glen (10/5): The best accommodation on Norfolk Island for a break in paradise - The villa was very well appointed, clean and with great privacy as well as amazing views. You're in a world of your own. It was a pleasure to communicate with the property managers. Charisse took every effort to make sure we were looked after - restaurant recommendations, activity suggestions, and even after discussing snorkelling at Emily Bay reef, a snorkel was soon left waiting for use during our stay. There is little room for improvement at Shearwater.
- Taverniti (8/5): Wonderful happy stay that was facilitated by the thoughtfulness and care of the hostess/ owner - Tranquility. Views. Very well equipped. Comfortable. Spacious. The access road.
- Antonio (8/5): Very good -
- Duncan (10/5): Great views, location, amenities with a host who genuinely wants you to enjoy your stay. - Perfect location with good amenities nothing
- Stewart (3/5): Great views outside, so you had better hope for good weather because the options are limited if yo - DVD non existent, 6 nights, only one towel each and drying it hard due rain. No heater. Toaster broken (replaced). BBQ gas bottle empty. Wifi dodgy throughout but nil access last 2 days. TV identified a Netflix option but there was no access, assume no subscription.
Inclusions extremely basic. The access roads bad. Not recommended.
- Eckhard (9/5): Secluded and beautiful location in well appointed accommodation. - Friendly meet and greet at the airport and care taken to find our way around through town and back to the property. The managers Allan and Kerry took care to explain not only our residence for the week but all the things available to do on the island which made it easy and a very comfortable introduction to island life. Couldn't write anything about what we didn't like.
- Lindsay (9/5): Beautiful house & surroundings & most welcoming hosts -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Moira (10/5): Exceptional - View was magnificent! Accommodation is immaculate and highly recommended.
- Phillip (10/5): Our stay was very relaxing. The location was very scenic and peaceful. Our hosts were very friendly -
- Adflny (2/5): Very poor -
- Craig (10/5): Highly recommend Shearwater. -
- Jacqueline (10/5): delighful - loved the location looking out over trees and parts of the bay but particularly loved watching the White Terns flying in to feed their families. Nothing, It was all idyllic
- Stephen (9/5): Relaxing stay, this is our third trip to Norfolk Is and we are never disappointed. - the location of Shearwater is excellent, beautiful views from the property as it is close to the sea and looks down on Kingston, the penal colony and Emily bay.It is 5 minutes to the town and airport plus restaurants. The property is excellent for family or two couples, plenty of room and it was very private
- Greg (10/5): Exceptional - The view was spectacular. It was wonderfully quiet, with beautiful gardens and all the facilities we needed. Rooms were huge, the bed was big and comfortable as was all the other furniture. The BBQ was well used.
- Breanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kent (9/5): Excellent stay. - Self contained property. Met and transported from airport by hosts. Parking a bit awkward space wise initially but worked it out.
- Bruce (10/5): Shearwater was a great place to stay with stunning views and Norfolk was a wonderful place to visit for its history, sce - it had everything we needed and in a beautiful location. The roads too & from we’re pretty poor but not the fault of the property owner. Roads generally throughout NORFOLK weren’t great.
- Katie (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tanya (9/5): A rejuvenating and magical experience - The location is exceptional! Our view from the balcony, bedroom & lounge was amazing. looking down onto the Kingston Arthur’s Vale Historical Area & the Bumboras Rocks was magic! The one bedroom villa was very spacious - bedroom was huge! The kitchen, laundry & bathroom were all well appointed, containing everything you may need for a wonderful stay. Even though we didn’t get time to use the spa (too much else to do) it was lovely & would be great to use after a long hike. Beautiful grounds & a peaceful, serene ambience awaits all who stay at Shearwater. This is something the entire island suffers from - the road into the villas is pretty rough, especially after rain.
- Rochelle (9/5): Lots of good memories and experiences. - The location is stunning. Also, the personal service and friendliness of our host Charisse just lovely. The fresh eggs, herbs from the garden were yummy. Also recommendations for car hire and The Homestead Restaurant, and where to find groceries were much appreciated. Out of our control, but the flight home being cancelled. Charisse and Kerry were very helpful though.
- John (10/5): Pacific paradise - Made our own breakfast Wifi
