Guest Reviews
- Darryl (2/5): - They no record of our booking and were full for the night had to find other accommodation at very short notice.
- Lionel (4/5): - Rooms very poor condition
- Ian (10/5): Pet friendly - absolutely - I was worried about staying in a motel with my two dogs (Labrador and Golden Retriever) but the team a Smerdon Lodge Motel were great and friendly. We'll be back!
- Des (10/5): - Great value for money ,clean & spacious with a great breafast included..
- Andrew (10/5): - Host was excellent, rooms clearly have been modernised. Cheap and cheerful place to stay.
- David (8/5): - Quick check in
Great budget accommodation
- Amanda (6/5): - I like everything, except the walls are paper thing. Could heat the ladys conversion on the phone on one side and the guy in the toilet the otherside.
For this reason ibwould not stay here again.
- Jenny (10/5): - Nice and close to the shop and hotel for a meal out.
- Kenneth (4/5): - Fan in bathroom thumping noise when working, only long life milk available in rooms asked for full cream and got told to buy at the shut shop next door. Breakfast room ran out of full cream milk told management and bad luck nobody told him, told previous day. The whole property needs updating, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Not likely to stay again
- adrian (10/5): Neat and Clean Overnighter - Neat and Clean overnighter on the highway from Melb to Adel. Ok its not the Taj Mahal and its a bit rough around the edges, but you park at your door, simple yet tidy room, and you can’t ask for more than that. Good value!
- Graeme (8/5): - Check in was quick, easy and very polite. Room was clean enough and okay for our 2 day stay but needs updating. Everything worked, it is just old.
- Kim (8/5): - Great Breakfast
- Lesley (10/5): - It was basic but comfortable and included breakfast.. good price and helpful staff. Thank you.
- raymond (10/5): Overnight stay good value for money - Was a stop in Horsham for a quick trip to Adelaide ,
We said we wouldn't get there till around 8.30 pm .
but to the owners credit she was outside waiting for us .
Was a good nights sleep on a very comfortable bed .In the throws of doing a bit of work we suspect .
a dripping tap in bathroom ,a bit of dust on free standing fan
New A/C units . Good price and a nice light breakfast provided in a breakfast room .
- maria (2/5): - Doors would not open to bathroom, no proper lights, TV wouldn’t work, wardrobe door stuck and bed uncomfortable…
- Frank (6/5): - This was OK as an overnight stop but could do with some TLC
- Lucy (10/5): - Friendly helpful staff, very comfy bed, and love seeing all the dogs out and about while here
- Gaby (8/5): - Pets are allowed at this property. I didn't take mine but its good to know as there's not much pet friendly accommodation out there.
The beds and pillows were comfy.
The bathroom is tired and worn out but it is an older motel.
The staff were friendly and up for a chat. Continental breakfast is included
- Lucy (10/5): - Very comfy bed, awesome friendly staff. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else
- Ronald (8/5): - Every time we stay at Smerdon Lodge we are impressed with the quietness the cleanliness in the room and also the comfortable bed.
- Peter (10/5): - Very friendly staff, great location, amazing variety of choices for the included continental breakfast (gluten free, soy, coconut and almond milk) and they even had the air-con on and running for our arrival on a 38C day - very thoughtful!!!
- Gaylene (8/5): - Units are a little dated however very clean. Great shower bottled water in fridge and ice available. On a hot day beautiful clean pool and pool towels provided. Continental breakfast was excellant.
- Alison (8/5): - Staff were friendly, pool was much needed with the weather being so warm
- Janet (2/5): - The owner of the property is very unconsidered… poor attitude and not helpful
- John (10/5): - The Motel staff were very friendly and helpful. The motel is an older style motel but the room was clean and tidy.
- Johanna (4/5): - The motel was convenient to the church for a funeral.
- Felicity (6/5): - Being pet friendly was important to us, but we had so many mosquitoes in our room, I must have killed 15 - 20. Also important to note that the railway line runs at the back of the bedrooms which will wake the more sensitive sleepers
- Ron (6/5): - Very old, bathroom needs updating, however was clean and a good breakfast supplied
- Bernard (8/5): - Convenient for our purposes passing through Horsham overnight. Welcoming staff.
- Dinh (4/5): - Dislike
- Brian (8/5): - Friendly staff old but comfortable and all facilities provided Great shower!
- Piotr (8/5): - No fuss breakfast
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely lady at reception explained the ins and outs. The room had such comfortable beds, and even at -1 degree at night the heating kept us warm.
Its no Hilton, but it was clean and great value.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Shower blocked, flooded the bathroom.Sofa bed marked and looked grotty as did carpets. Heater/cooler over front door, constantly dripping water, so much so, that front door mat had to be stepped over when going outside, and it looked like water was running inside and marking the carpet. Was the worst motel I have ever stayed.
- Peter (2/5): - This place should be condemned structurally unsafe
- Shirley (8/5): - Very clean, comfy bed. Little dated, but overall was just what we needed ..
- Michelle (8/5): - Good value for money basic breakfast included & Maccas 150m away for proper coffee (not instant). Easy walk around town from its location. Not greatly insulated can hear neighbours talking in adjacent room. Shower though was pleasant with rain shower head but bathroom didn’t close and it was right next to the bed (not so great re privacy).
- Romeo (10/5): - Great location. Although the room looks dated, it is clean. Staff are super helpful. A continental breakfast is a nice additio.
- Tracey (8/5): - Great if you’re staying overnight with a dog
- Ruhul (10/5): - Good family room organisation
- Noreen (6/5): - This property is very run down, broken fixtures in the bathroom and really needs to be modernised. The room was very clean but dark. We did not stay for breakfast but the motel was busy and lots of people in the breakfast room.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - friendly staff but facilities very shabby.
- Liam (10/5): - Staff are very welcoming and very helpful
Felt very safe and secured. Room was very comfortable, bed was very comfortable. Great shower. Continental breakfast was a bonus. Very very happy with my stay, will be booking again when in the area :)
- Margaret (6/5): Friendly - Basic, but suits a quick overnight stop. Very friendly.
- Carmel (10/5): - Was very clean and staff amazing
- Katie (8/5): - Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and clean.
- Chelsea (10/5): - Really appreciate what Smerdon offers, being a pet friendly hotel that's a great distance between Adelaide and Melbourne on a road trip. I booked the Lodge because I've stayed there before and it meets my needs perfectly. On this trip I saw the bathroom tiles have been updated and a brand new aircon was installed, too - lovely bonuses with no price increase! Thanks for another peaceful and restful stay.
- Nardia (10/5): - Good location
- Robert (8/5): - Great reception and advice
- Casey (6/5): - Its not like the photos suggest. Expect an old motel with dodgy painting of trims, a tressle table dining table and soft dpuble bed.
I get im not staying or paying for the hilton, but it left me wanting, something. The bathroom could use better cleaning, plenty of dust to show what hasnt been touched in a while, on the hand basin. One of the complimentry shampoo containers looked to have mould on it. Cant say that i felt it was a clean motel. Look, it wasnt the worst place ibe stayed but when booking, i expected more.
Nice staff though.
- Peter (10/5): Very handy position. - Nice comfortable motel at a great price which also includes a light breakfast.
Very helpful staff. Plenty of parking with rooms well back from the highway. So quiet.
Plenty of cutlery, toaster and plates.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Dirty furnishings dodgy smoke alarm, wasnt working, had to change rooms, toilet seat was broken shower curtain was filthy and the bed sheets looked dirty with a brown tinge. overpriced
- Jeremy (6/5): Air conditioner - Rooms were being upgraded. The air conditioning was centrally controlled and was very noisy. we had to turn it off to get sleep and the only fresh air was going through open louvres in the shower. ˇhe advice we were given about getting an evening meal was terrible. We shall not stay there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - All
Of it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Inexpensive, cosy. Comfy bed and appreciated the complimentary water and light breakfast. Nice choice for a great price!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Reasonably clean and dog friendly
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed was not fantastic & walls paper thin - we could hear our neighbors talking well into the early hours.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very central clean and economical.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is looking a bit old and tired, it could use a facelift.
The upside: it was clean, tidy and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The free breakfast was appreciated and a lovely gesture. 👏👏
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The price reflected the condition of the property. The bonus of breakfast included was good for the quick overnight stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely traditional motel, very comfortable, with caring, interested staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place is located central enough to walk to town. The place is a bit run down but staff are extremely friendly and helpful, lots of tea and coffee and an excellent breakfast. Recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): OK but needs a bit of an update - very old motel probably needs a refurbishment but it was comfortable and the separate bedroom was handy, shower was a bit dodgy but all in all it was ok - we thought it was close to the town but it is out a bit so our daily walks were a bit long but their local club had a courtesy bus so that was handy
- Linda (8/5): - Good location, reasonable cost. Friendly helpfull staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was clean and quite .. free breakfast in the morning perfect start to our day
- Emma (10/5): - Stayed here on Saturday and Monday night on a trip to Adelaide Quiet location with all the amenities Nice Pool and walking distance to all food outlets Great price for a nights stay with breakfast included. Recommend.

For kids, especially after a long day of travel and lovely complimentary continental breakfast
- Greg (10/5): - Excellent stay, easy and close to all Horsham attractions
- Wilma (10/5): - Great hotel very helpful and friendly service
- Kelly (8/5): - Room was a bit dated but had all we needed for an overnight stay. Bed was very comfortable. Host was very friendly. Breakfast was included.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient location and friendly staff. Highly recommend when driving between Adelaide and Melbourne to break the trip.
- Lisa (8/5): - Tidy, clean, and quiet. Continental breakfast was good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and warm. The breakfast room was well stocked with a variety of food catering for people with all sorts of needs.
- Tanya (8/5): - Friendly staff and breakfast is basic but great to start your day.
- Matthew (10/5): - Clean tidy motel, friendly personal service
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was very dusty gave us all asthma service and staff were friendly
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This us a very convenient low budget , no frills, wayside stop. Free breakfast, clean rooms gravel yard, good parking, no greenery or landscaping. Walking distance to fast food outlets and pubs. Mainly itinerate workers
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I thought the room was good value for money and the location was good.
- Revolting (2/5): - I wish I had gone AirBnB instead of this very disappointing motel. I have stayed in clearer backpackers. The bathroom had broken tiles on the shower floor and mold in the shower, the towels were so old they were paper thin. Plastic table cloth on a collapsable table just makes a guest feel cheep. There were holes in the walls. The train line directly behind the motel does nothing for “the serenity”. Never again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - the staff were amazing and very freindly. We have stayed there a couple of times now and are happy with the accomodation and cleanliness of the property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very comfortable and clean . Good value and a free breakfast. Also dog friendly . Thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect overnight accommodation travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide. Great price, location close to restaurants, clean rooms with aircon fridge and microwave. Very friendly and helpful staff and dog friendly rooms which made travelling with my furbaby easy and stress free. Will definitely be back, thank you!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ruins were comfortable and clean, reception was easy breakfast was good- help yourself with range of cereal and bread.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable place to break the drive home, owners are very friendly and helpful
- Brenton (10/5): - Organised a late check-in and left a light on in the room so it wzs easy to find. Very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely friendly service nothing was a problem when assisting us
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property well cared for and clean. Bed hard and would be better with a matress topper, and towels were small and thin.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good layout comfortable , needs upgrade of aircon.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff/managers were very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay while visiting the Grampians. Very nice staff, very happy to recommend places for dinner, and large rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Comfortable but could do with an update
- Popo (6/5): - wotif charged by $10 more expensive than the price on the sign at the door
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The bathroom needs renovations the hand basin is cracked and the tiles are cracked on the wall and tiles are worn out in the bottom of shower, all needs a paint and new carpet and under the bed was dirty hadn’t been vacuumed owners were friendly and nice but certainly wouldn’t stay there again, I think the pictures on the web site need up graded to show bathrooms as well as sleeping area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pleasent helpful staff, cleanliness, breakfast room, comfortable bed
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We found the owners to be very friendly and helpful lthough it was abit noisy throughout the night.
