- sassyangelkiwi (2/5): Thoughtless inattention to details and dirty. - Filthy stained old vinyl floors, cobwebs in high spots in kitchen. Bathroom sliding door was broken and difficult to open and close bathroom when using toilet or shower. No mirrors in the room - which is an essential thing to have in a motel room, especially for women and we were attending a costume party and only had a dark bathroom mirror to share. Old tv cabinet in hallway just taking up space. Needs to be removed, (dumped or sold.) Clothes dryer broken in laundry so had to use a public commercial clothes dryer. No mixing bowls in kitchen so un couldn’t have my mowing microwave porridge.. Only white towels so I had to buy some black ones from the warehouse to remove my make up (we attended a costume ball). (Most hotels these days provide dark make up removing facecloth’s. To prevent staining the white ones) This room was clearly designed by a male as it was not suitable for female guests!. All these issues were just thoughtless inattention to details. I expected so much more for the price we paid. Will not be returning.

- Kevin (10/5): Pleasantly surprised and exceeded expectations - We only stayed one night but liked it enough to stay more if our plans allowed. It is in a great location. The parking is tight but we made it work. The front desk attendant was very nice and helpful. I am not sure if we got a free upgrade but it was much better than I thought. It had all the accommodations. We were going to go out and do things in Rotorua but opted to stay in the room and rest instead because it was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The beds were comfortable. I thought this place was great and would definitely stay there again if we go back to New Zealand.

- kwaisunyee (8/5): Rotorua city if Sulphur pools - Apex on Fenton motel is centrally located and has a designated car park for its guest.We stayed in 2 bedroom apartment which had 2 levels .Downstairs there is lounge/kitchen/bathroom/spa tub and a spare single bed(in the lounge area).Upstairs they have 2 rooms,2single bed in one room while the other had 3 single bed.They had a fully furnished kitchen & bathroom had the toiletries stocked up so perfect for a family.Our kids enjoyed the soak in the spa tub during our 2day stay here.There is Netflix available if you are spending time indoors as it was raining when we stayed here. Only cons I can think of is that the wardrobe/drawers is dated but functional.The upstairs wooden floor/wooden stairs can be squeaky.The switch to get the kitchen stove get going is located on the right side of the microwave.

- fryzee58 (8/5): A budget hotel close to town - Whilst the Hotel is a bit old, we found our room to be very comfortable and clean. It appeared that our room had been recently refreshed and our beds were comfortable. There were 3 of us. The gardens and outdoor areas were in need of some love, the garden beds were very overgrown with weeds. The lady in reception was very pleasant and helpful. Some of the items provided in the kitchenette need replacing especially the saucepan with the wonky handle. Having said that it was enjoyable 2 night stay.

The description on their website does not match reality, e.g. their is no air conditioning in any rooms despite stating room have this on the website. Room was very small, with little privacy - no way of closing the blinds to the room. The wi-fi was really slow and bed was awful. We made the decision to request a refund and look for other accommodation - we only stayed for 15 - 20 minutes. To their credit the Manager was very apologetic and agreed to initiate the refund of our room charge (which is in train).

The staff was very welcoming and took the time to find out about us and what we were planning on seeing in the area. They made very good suggestions about dining and when best to see area attractions. I would definitely recommend the Apex to my value conscious friends.

But nah it was great for our trip & we fully enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely book here again when we come back to Rotorua.

Shower water volume is okay, good to stay at winter time. Great location, closed to the popular Chinese takeaway with walking distances. Also close to supermarket and Polynesian Thermal Pools. Very friendly owner and staff, Great value!

- SpicksandSpecks (8/5): Helpful Owners - We had a great few days at Apex on Fenton. We booked a large studio, which fitted our family of 4, but was a bit small. If there'd been availability we would have booked a larger room. It was clean, had the necessary kitchen equipment to make our own meals. The owners of the hotel were extremely helpful - they lent us extra towels so we could go swimming at no extra charge. They did a load of washing for us ($NZ10), ready in a day. They were friendly and hard working. Thank you!
- aarongR5313MB (2/5): Not good - Apex on Fenton, you are a disgrace we did not enjoy the stay, it was dirty old, it smelled (not because of the sulphur either) The rooms were noisey, bathroom with poor repairs with a shower that was just plain annoying to shower with, sky tv with very basic channels, no movies. Unfortunately you people don't understand what good service is and it was very expensive for what it is. I do not recommend at all.

The owner can adjust temperature if needed. Kitchen was well equipped for a short stay. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The front office has a small dvd collection. Parking is in front of room.

And they get BBC World News amongst their offered channels. I’ll come back. While the towels are a bit tired they were clean and replaced daily.
