Guest Reviews
- Christine (9/5): Very pleasant and comfortable stay with good hosts. - We had a spacious cabin with a super comfortable bed and bathroom. Setting was very pretty at the base of Mt Roland. Lovely natural surroundings. Kitchen and furniture are dated but still perfectly functional.
- Jennifer (10/5): Perfect! - The location was superb with stunning scenery. We really appreciated the tranquility. Nothing
- Razvan (8/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Silver Ridge Retreat — it truly feels like a cabin in the middle of paradise up in the mountains. The views of were absolutely stunning, and the wildlife around the property made the experience even more special. We saw pademelons, a platypus near the reception pond, and even Tasmanian hens wandering around.
The cabin was cozy and well equipped. We appreciated having access to free laundry facilities (only the dryer required payment), and we also used the gas barbecue. It worked well, although we did spend quite a bit of time cleaning it before use as it was not very clean when we arrived.
A special mention to John, the owner, who was extremely polite and helpful throughout our stay. Overall, this was a peaceful and memorable place to experience Tasmania’s nature and scenery. There is also an indoor pool, which looked nice, but the indoor area was quite cold during our stay and the pool cover was a bit complicated for us to remove, so we did not end up using it. The main AC unit was located in the living room, so the bedroom took a while to warm up, but there was also a small heater in the room which helped.
- Gerard (10/5): - Great location with views every where you look. Great little bush walk to the abandoned mine as well.
- Kaho (8/5): Great Stay Surrounded by Nature - The kitchen, toilet, shower, and room were all very clean. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything I needed, including cutlery, plates, glasses, and cooking utensils, which made it very easy to use.
There are supermarkets and bars just about a 10-minute drive away.
It’s about an hour to Cradle Mountain, and the natural surroundings on the property itself are beautiful — I really enjoyed taking a walk there in the morning.
We stayed as a group of two this time, but the place can accommodate up to around five people, so it would be great value for families or groups as well. Nothing
- Ahmed Ali (9/5): Loved our stay, locatiom and activities around the property was amazing. - Location and views were amazing. Everything was good.
- G (8/5): -
- Gavin (10/5): -
- Dean (9/5): -
- Maria (9/5): Natur pur - Eine sehr individuelle Unterkunft mitten in der Natur, die viel Erkundungen ermöglicht. Unser Spa-Zimmer mit Whirlpool war das Highlight, bei leider schlechtem Wetter.
- Jessica (8/5): Amazing Nature cabin stay - The place was amazing with a great view on Mount Roland. wildlife at every corner and even platypus in the Dam. This was easy to access and easy to check in. The children enjoyed the pool every day and the night Tour with Justin was amazing general cleanliness of the cabin wasn't great (dead bugs around the floor, spiderwebs, dirty dishes and cutlery) But nothing too major.
- Sarah (8/5): A nice interlude in the trip around Tasmania - A quiet farm set beneath Mount Roland
Self contained cabins, a silver mine and a swimming pool
- Clare (10/5): - Location - 10 min drive to Sheffield for supplies. 45 min drive to Cradle Mountain visitors centre. Very welcoming host - excellent local knowledge. Quirky older style cabin with an alpine feel - wood panelling and pitched ceiling. Modern bathroom. Stunning view of Mt Roland and peaceful property to explore. Great place to relax and enjoy Tassie and its abundant nature.
- Kati (10/5): Wildlife at your doorstep! - This is an amazing stay to be close to Tasmanian wildlife and cradle mountain national park. We stayed two nights and got to watch local wallabys and possums directly on the property while not having to drive long to the national park. The Appartement is very spacious with all amenities. Nothing to note, we loved it!
- Deborah (8/5): Nice cottage the veiws were very special - Location ,amazing views so quiet and relaxing. Very comfortable cottage It would have been helpful to know about the dam water before we arrived so we could bring some drinking water with us.
- Robert (8/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Chris (8/5): - Location
- Valeriy (10/5): -
- Anessa (7/5): -
- Eileen (9/5): Great place to relax and use as base for visiting cradle mountain - Pool, view Screen door unstable, and need to exit and lock up through rear door - but a very minor inconvenience
- Dinovino (9/5): Sliver Ridge, star location. - Silver Ridge is an amazing location, Mt Roland looms above and the space is populated by a menagerie of chickens, geese, Tasmanian hens, ducks, pademelons and the elusive Tassie devils and platypus. John is a superb host- ready for a chat and to direct you around the property including the disused silver mine featuring (harmless) spiders and glow worms- Wellington boots and torches provided! Relatively easy drive to Cradle Mountain or if you prefer to stay local lots of walk on the property. Five minute drive to the town of Sheffield which has all the supplies you might require. Don't miss the "Bread Fridge" with sour dough loaves freshly baked (on the main road to the right of the Silver Ridge entrance, on the way to Sheffield, by around five hundred metres). The motel units have plenty of cooking power and space and there is a lovely indoor heated pool.
- JOSH DAN (8/5): Calme, des vues epoustouflantes , differentes a tout moment - Emplacement fabuleux , vue sur les montagnes et le calme
Piscine tres agreable. Besoin de renovation
- John (10/5): - Thank you for a wonderful stay on your farm. The location and view was outstanding. The cabin was superb, very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Thank you also for the night walk which was so informative.
- Kirstein (7/5): A comfortable place to stay in a great setting. - The location was great and it was good to be able to see some wallabies. It was a shame that the advertised nocturnal walk was not being run as we were looking forward to that. The free toiletries offered were not enough for 4 people for 2 nights - and it’s not close enough to pop to the shops to get your own.
- Irene (10/5): Wonderful peaceful place - Basic spacious clean comfortable accommodation with everything you need for a rural stay. Swimming pool warm - really nice pine built covered environment. Lovely views of Mount Roland in the pond as the sun sets. Loved it all. So peaceful! Nothing
- Wayne (10/5): - Stunning farm setting at the base of Mount Roland. Scenic 45-minute drive to Cradle Mountain and 10 minutes to Sheffield for supplies.
- Rachel (9/5): - The swimming pool was excellent
- Alan (7/5): Great value and location - Great location to explore Cradle Mountain area and the north west coast Showing it’s age in places
- James (8/5): Peaceful spot, reasonable cost, clean functional and lovely views - Functional, clean, lovely spot just outside the national park; pool was a welcome surprise.
- Lisa (10/5): Magical experience seeing platypus in the dam & the most beautiful sunset over the mountains - The wildlife, friendly hosts & beauty of the location. Rustic rooms added to the charm
- Annette (9/5): Stunning Location of Mt Roland, Super friendly and informative host - Stunning location, super friendly host. Facilities were very dated, but did the job just fine.
Rien!
- George (10/5): -
- Skye (10/5): Absolutely stunning - Amazing location, accomodation and facilities were great and very helpful staff.
- Yuan Lara (10/5): Lovely hidden retreat. - John is a truly lovely person, and his deep knowledge of the local area and his explanations taught me so much. He patiently and thoroughly introduced everything about Silver Ridge Retreat, including the hiking trails and the best spots for photography.
The Silver Mine is incredibly exciting—bring your brave heart and take on the challenge! Nothing bothered us at all.
- Helen (9/5): -
- Bonnie (8/5): Peaceful Stay - Location was very peaceful, the accomodation was spacious and tidy, the owner gave us food to feed the horses and chooks, views were amazing, we had a very relaxing weekend here! Whilst the pool was still a hit with our children and they had a lot of fun in it, it was freezing cold.
- Lee (9/5): Amazing location and good value for money. The host has lots of interesting stories to share and suggestions on where to - Lots of animals and nature and trails walks to go on. I’m happy with it.
- Candice (8/5): If you like nature, vineyard, truffles, then Sheffield and the valley is the right place for you. - The retreat has some interesting places to explore, like: water lily pond, pool, rainforest walk, old mine, hide, glow worms. Location is close to Mt Roland and Cradle Mountain, Mole Creek caves etc. The beds are a little dated, house is basic but it is overall clean.
- Julie (6/5): A good spot for the views. - The view is fantastic. The cottages are a good size. The cottages are tired and need a refresh in furnishings and linen. Aside from that, things don't need to be fancy but you do expect cottages that are for more than overnight stays to have a few things to make them a little homey, in whatever way the owners want to. There are absolutely no frills, no extras, and no "oh, isn't that lovely". We even had to ask for the second bedroom door to be unlocked as we needed two rooms (which is why i booked it). There was only one teaspoon, one very small set of tongs, very minimal cooking equipment, the large pans in the cupboard were dirty. The fridge had no shelves. The bathroom light didn't work properly. The windows were also dirty - not nice when the view is the main attraction! Its the first cottage style accommodation that I have stayed in where there was not a stack of books, mags, cards, games etc for those rainy days (which we had). The pool was nice but it was up to the guests to take the covers off and put them back on again. One or two things can be overlooked but cumulatively I found it to be mediocre and lacking in any personal touch or anything to write home about.
- David (9/5): - Cleanlyness off room and staff where excellent
- Dan (9/5): This is a greta place to stay with family or friends. he setting is beautiful - view and setting perfect nothing
- Stela (9/5): Fantastic views and stay - Loved the property and the surroundings - absolutely gorgeous and you won't ever get bored! John is also a fantastic host with heaps of information! nothing!
- Denise (4/5): Cooking utensils and cooking equipment was all dirty. Cloths to clean the cooking equipment had not been replaced. They - Spacious, location, quiet, nice farm area. Comfortable bed. For a family cabin there was not enough cooking appliances. Only a microwave and a 2 burner hot plate. Yet equipment to be able to cook in an oven. Longe suit was extremely uncomfortable. Unable to sit on it it appeared to be very old.
- PRISCA (10/5): A tranquil retreat - Beautiful tranquil surroundings at the foot of Mount Roland! On a clear day, the majestic Mount Roland is visible from the property. Only 10min drive to Sheffield for supplies and restaurants.
- Dan (5/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Loved our Christmas stay at Silver Ridge - beautiful location, friendly & knowledgeable host. Kids loved the indoor - Location, hosts, farm animals & silver mine adventure.
- Maria (9/5): Ruhig, so richtig zum Urlaub machen. - Die ruhige Lage verbunden mit der schnellen Möglichkeit nach Sheffield zum Supermarkt zu fahren. Dort gab es a l l e s !!!
Die Raumaufteilung war hervorragend und der Besitzer höflich und hilfsbereit. Jederzeit wieder
Man kann viele leichte Wanderungen (Spziergänge) unternehmen. Nur das Wetter
- Divya (10/5): Excellent property. Loved the stay overall. - Love the location and the vibe. The gas smell was a bit weird but loved the hot water.
- Sabrina (9/5): Stay at Silver Ridge - Lovely place to stay for a few nights, with Mount Roland in the background. There were facilities to cook your own food.
- Paul (9/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): - Clean, homely, well stocked.
- Wang (9/5): - Beautiful and comfortable spot to stay the night. Hot water is limited especially if to use SPA and shower at the same time, but understandable in rural area.
- Susan (9/5): - Lovely relaxing place to stay and connect with nature.
- Kelly (8/5): -
- Abriana (10/5): Silver ridge retreat was very relaxing & beautiful. The owner was very accomodating and ensured we were comfortable - Silver ridge retreat was very relaxing & beautiful. The owner was very accomodating and ensured we were comfortable during our stay. The views were amazing! I would highly recommend.
- Emma (10/5): Just what we needed! - Very accommodating with later check in
- David (10/5): - Location, walking tracks around cabins, wild life and close to all towns and tourist parks. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area in the future
- Neil (10/5): A great place to stay. - Everything Nothing
- john (9/5): Good place to stay for Sheffield and surrounding areas. - Location and view, comfort, quiet, kitchen A few minor items required maintenance and cleaning a bit haphazard.
. A /C only just coped with the cold
- Windfield (8/5): -
- Keng How (6/5): Nice quiet environment, a good location. - Location isn’t too bad. 45mjns drive to cradle mtn. 10mins drive to nearest town. The bed is too soft and no room heating. Only one aircon blower for the whole cottage. A dim light in the toilet would also help, otherwise we have to leave the bright toilet lights on throughout the night, which is annoying to sleep with.
- Roselyn (9/5): - Great location with magnificent views
- Suzanne (8/5): Lovely - Loved mountain view Shower didn’t drain very well
- Boris (9/5): Great place to relax and explore the surrounding areas like Mt Roland/Cradle Mountain - Great location, wonderful room, ranch-like atmosphere with a couple of lakes, animals and its own mine. The owner is very helpful and great person to talk to -
- Diana (10/5): -
- Elise (10/5): Comfortable cabins in a beautiful location - The pool was fantastic. It's indoor and heated. Staff were really helpful and friendly.
Great to have a kitchen in the cabin. Bathrooms were modern. The rest of the cabin had a nice rustic feel and suited the surroundings. Very comfortable. There's laundry facilities too.
The view of Mount Roland is amazing. It's such a pretty and peaceful area to visit and enjoy. About 15 mins outside of Sheffield.
There's also friendly chickens and a duck which were a hit with the kids.
- Ron K (9/5): - Friendly, helpful staff. Location was beautiful with Mt Roland outside back door. Great to relax in the spa bath. Everything was good about our stay.
- Stephanie (10/5): Ultimate Self Contained Tassie Getaway - We spent a magically 3 nights at Silver Ridge Retreat and didn't want to leave. Words can not describe how breathtaking the view of Mt Roland and surrounds was but waking up to it or swimming beneath it are moments we will treasure for a lifetime, we have left relaxed and the cabin was so comfortable to curl up in at night, again I can't put into words how much we enjoyed exploring the surrounding towns, hikes and tracks. Thank you Silver Ridge Retreat for an amazing Tassie Getaway. Nothing
- Jemma (9/5): -
- Jillian (7/5): Compared to other accommodation we felt it was overpriced - I liked the view of the mountain and it was close to cradle mountain. We felt it needed some TLC,
- karen (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): - A very special place with beautiful views, great facilities, and a tranquil atmosphere. The host was incredibly accommodating; and kindly offered a wealth of fascinating knowledge and history about the local wildlife and surrounds. Thank you for providing such a peaceful and rejuvenating experience. I will certainly return again in the future.
- Simon (10/5): - Wonderful and cosy self contained cabins, nestled at the foothills of an incredible mountain
- Jessica (10/5): -
- Blessie (10/5): Stunning mountain view - The stunning view, and closer to cradle mountain Everything was fine
- Mandhi (7/5): Good -
- Nene (9/5): Quiet and Convenient - Hosts were lovely and we were very comfortable during our stay. So close to the lovely town of Sheffield and to Cradle Mountain!
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic view of Mount Roland from our room. Very friendly hosts. Fantastic location, value and facilities.
The indoor pool was very enjoyable after a long day of hiking!
Lots of wildlife to enjoy as well! Will definitely be back when we travel to the NW Coast again!
- Sook (8/5): Very good - Location, the friendly owner. Lack of shampoo, shower gel and dish washing detergent. The utensils not so clean.
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, comfortable and beautiful space in an amazing location. Thank you to the hosts.
- Dominic (10/5): Amazing nature escape - Amazing staff
Great location for cradle mountain and tasting trail
Alot of animals and heavily immersed in nature N/A
- Jo (7/5): Good -
- Dorothy (9/5): A very enjoyable place to spend some time. - The property is secluded below Mt. Roland, which allows a quiet relaxing stay, with magnificent views of the mountain and surrounding area. The cabin was cosy and comfortable. There is a separate building with an indoor pool and laundry.
- David (7/5): Good -
- Roland (9/5): Mix between little farm and holiday retreat - There's hardly a better place if you want peace and quiet and love nature. It was lovely to sit on the bench and watch the animals at the pond and go for a walk. I stayed for 3 nights.
The location between the nice town of Sheffield and the Cradle Mountains is ideal with car. The water, but that's the case in many rural places there. Probably no better next door.
- Carstan (9/5): Was a little daunted at first impression while arriving but all doubts removed on settling in. - Host was most amiable. Tendency to over inform a weary traveller trying to take it all in on first arrival. No major complaint.
- Mark (10/5): STUNNING AND WONDERFUL - It felt like a private fantasy escape to your own secret alpine valley in Tassie. Forget all the crowds and control at Cradle mountain, we stayed here and had a whole valley and mountain to ourselves, we did not want to leave and I so hope we get to come back. The Changing light on Mt Roland was mindblowing, the sunsets just incredible, so was the wildlife, we loved watching wallabies in the twilight. What a tranquil wonderful beautiful world class retreat I hope I get to go back
- Alex (6/5): A relaxing stay in a basic accommodation option set among stunning natural scenery - Stunning location at the foothills of Mt Roland. Tired accommodation with basic amenities.
- Colleen (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful location.
