Guest Reviews
- darren (8/5): Good country pub and clean - Very clean and good cheap pub meals
Old pub feel
- Chris (5/5): Pleasant and comfortable for what you pay. Value for money. - The location and friendliness of the staff was good. The noise from the hotel echoed into my room, which had no outside window. I'd stayed previously out on the balcony, and it was much better.
- Jane (10/5): -
- Jane (10/5): - Clean and tidy facilities.
Friendly staff
Great food
- Michael (7/5): It did the job. The pub food was good - Location was good My room was directly over the front bar. Very noisy with the state of origin being telecast. Maybe a room at the back would have better.
- KEN (9/5): -
- Ben (5/5): Ok to stay for one night if you want a cheap room. - You’re at the pub and it’s ok to walk straight upstairs after dinner and drinks. Smells of cigarettes and very loud.
- Felsch (7/5): -
- Luke (10/5): - Lovely view of street in sitting area upstairs
- Luke (10/5): - Lovely staff
- Serena (6/5): Ok - It was what we needed on our way to Sydney.
The cheapest accommodation in the area with a lot of parking.
Shared bathrooms were also clean. Unfortunately other guests made our stay uncomfortable.
There were screams late at night and fights. Someone tried to get into my friend’s room (clearly someone drunk who confused room).
We didn’t bother reporting to the management and promptly left the next day.
- Robert (7/5): Fully met my expectations for the price - clean comfortable room........i was transferred from 15 to 16 ********* Excellent
room 15 appalling on all counts you cannot offer this to guests rooo 15 stank no amenities no chair table
- victoria (5/5): A clean bed to lay your head, it was ok - We went across the road for a pie for brekkie..it was devine.
Food in the restaurant downstairs was good, bed was comfortable.
Room was clean Hotel could definitely do with some renovation. I was very surprised that the rooms did not have en suite bathrooms, i will be more careful when booking online in the future!
- Graeme (8/5): - Friendly staff, great location and good food Nil
- Kyle (1/5): If I could give it 0 stars I would. Never again. - Not a bad location. There were cockroaches in the bathrooms. The toilets were disgusting. They needed to be cleaned. There was no aircon in the room and it was stuffy. The fan only turned on when I turned the light on. This made it hard to fall asleep. The manager wasn’t very nice. I also needed to get earplugs just so i could fall asleep. The hotel room was grim. It was wooden chairs and an old Coca Cola chair. The bed also was not comfortable. I can’t believe I paid $140 for this.
- Jim (8/5): - ATE IN THE bar and the food was excellent, the bed and the pillow were both very comfortable.
- Ruth (6/5): Location great. It needs a bit of a makeover - The location & character of the building The room could have been a little cleaner & a chair would have been appreciated. It was just a bit shabby.
- Torstein (4/5): veldig lytt, stinket røyk på ett av rommene enda det ikke var lov å røyke på rommene. - fasilitetene stemte ikke overens med bilder etc
- CorinaM (7/5): Last minute stopover - Grand old hotel with restaurant & bar good place for a stop over if travelling - meals were generous Room could have done with a thorough clean the bed wasn't made properly the cover was stained & dusty the old fireplace had ashes in it that blew out when the wind blew a certain way
- Roslynne (6/5): -
- John (6/5): Ok for an overnight stay on our way north. At $138 for a room with no a/c and shared facilities it’s on the expensiv - Excellent location. The hotel has a very good bistro. No a/c in the room, ceiling fan only. Liked that our room opened onto the balcony and we had to open the window due to the temperature BUT this is an area for smokers and we’re definitely NOT. Luckily no smokers used the area the night we stayed.
- arya (4/5): - No aircon
- Jessica (2/5): Too expensive for what you get - The room was very sparsely furnished and smelled of smoke. I found rat poison under the bed. For the money, you would expect something significantly better.
- Timothy (8/5): Nice, clean, good value for money. - Nice clean room. Great pub downstairs serving good food. Not the hotel's fault, but obviously a previous guest had been smoking in the room.
- Kim (8/5): Excellent location to explore the beautiful town of Maclean. - Location is excellent. Bathroom facilities are modern and clean. Could use a small lamp next to the bed.
- Michael (7/5): -
- Jeevan (8/5): - Clean room, bedding and shared amenities.
- Lee (7/5): An old pub in a great location. - Great location and friendly staff. Upstairs where we stayed was a bit cold. A little heater in the room would have helped. Didn’t expect air con for the price but needed a heater.
- Colin (5/5): I needed to rest, anywhere was ok for me but won’t ever go back - Great pub and bistro Accommodation not good value @ $138
More like backpackers @ $75
- Peter (7/5): A nice overnight stay! - The room was nice enough, & the 3.5 star rating is as expected, enjoyed my stay there! Someone in an adjacent room was smoking in the room which wafted into mine, not happy about that!!!
- David (7/5): Good - It is not to far off the highway & Mclean is a lovely town to start your day in. My room smelt like cigarette smoke.
- Mckay (9/5): Superb -
- Barry (10/5): - Great place for an overnight stay between Sydney and Brisbane
- Brenton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hawk (1/5): Horrendous - Gross Finger nails clippings in room. Staff rude as fuvk
- Liz (10/5): - Without A/C the room was very breezy with the ceiling fan which was quiet. Common kitchen area & balconies were nice. A bit deceiving was the room ads-noticed it was a "shared bathroom" (which I would not have booked) then I saw a room that didn't have this description & I booked believing it has a bathroom. Please make every room clear. However, they were beautiful and clean (just redone). A lovely stay : )
- Lynne (9/5): Superb -
- Glenn (8/5): Good - Old style Pub
- Vladimir (6/5): - Was reasonably close to the exit from Highway and in a quiet location near freshwater. I just wanted to get as far away from Brisbane as possible and closure of checking in at 10 pm suited me better.
- Michael (8/5): - Great country pub, in a beautiful country town. Only drawback was no air conditioning in the room we stayed in.
- Michelle (5/5): Overpriced for a pub room with share facilities. - Easy location in center of town. Cocktails were lovely I expected more for the price as it was only a pub room with no air conditioning. Sign said ask staff about meals after bistro was closed but first staff response was rude and they they don't. Pointed out sign and passed onto another staff member who offered chicken and rice or spaghetti and when they brought it out it was beef casserole and rice. One was warm and the other cold.
- Marilyn (10/5): Maclean Hotel - Room was generous in size. Communal bathroom was clean and tidy.
- Shane (8/5): Good location, just far enough from the freeway for a quiet nights sleep - Great Country Hotel, Quiet & friendly staff.
- Nishadi (8/5): - We stayed one night at this place. The room was simple but worth the money spent, offering great value. The bar and food options were a nice touch, making everything easy and convenient. While the bathrooms are shared, they were clean and well-maintained, so it wasn’t an issue.
The room we stayed in was next to the balcony, where some guests were gathered, so there was a bit of noise even after 10 PM. Additionally, the balcony lights shone directly into our room through the window, which could be improved for better comfort.
Overall, a good place for a short stay—comfortable.
- Linda (10/5): - Working so handy place to stay priced well
- Alex (8/5): - Thankyou for our beautiful stay at your hotel over the christmas period. The room was comfortable and lovely, and the freshly updated bathrooms and amenties were fantastic. The food looked amazing and well priced. My only regret we couldn't stay longer. Beautiful main street and river to explore. Not far to Yamba for a beach swim.
- Carol (8/5): - Peace and quite and cleanliness
- John (6/5): - Great pub style night’s stay. Location and service is tops. Shared bathroom is very clean
- Darren (7/5): Good - Baramundi was excellent - Beer was cold.
- Morgan (8/5): - Rooms were spacious and comfortable, easy access to rooms and ammenities were clean and functional. Location was central to town and provided a good spot to meet locally with others. Would recommend to singles, couples and groups.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Clean, good food and atmosphere.
- Alan (5/5): Passable -
- Jennifer (10/5): - Terrific
- Katrina (9/5): Affordable, convenient stop - just off the freeway. - lovely location, great food and comfortable beds. Room was lovely, clean, and great showers. parking was easy and secure, even with fully loaded ute. I dont normally go for shared bathroom but the bathroom was just across the hall and clean and nice. Breakfast at Bottero up the road is worth stopping in Maclean for alone! The restaurant closed earlier than our arrival but staff were happy to place an order and keep warm for us.
- Evan (6/5): - Well maintained old pub but the refrigeration unit roared all night and the main road was noisy. Maybe they should have a quiet option!
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rohrlach (4/5): Won't be going back there - No breakfast, but Iunch and dinner great putting two older people in a room next to bikies who were up til 4.30 in the morning. We found it very uncomfortable
- Simon (10/5): Great location and super comfy! - Super comfy. Easy check in. Pub closed early.
- David (10/5): - Wonderful historic country pub, on river in centres of town. Friendly and helpful staff and great dining menu.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quaint and friendly stopover off the highway. - The Maclean Hotel is full of old world charm and was a great location to stay in the middle of town and on the river front. Our room, a Standard Queen was clean, comfortable and very affordable over a long weekend. The shared bathrooms are thoroughly modern and very clean. A guest laundry, kitchen with a fridge and a small dining/ lounge is provided on the accommodation level which is upstairs over the hotel below. (NB there is no lift - not a problem for me but could be an issue for others). We dined in the hotel and the meals were affordable and delicious. Staff were courteous and very helpful.
I have only have 2 suggestions- a bedside lamp and the addition of drapes to the window to reduce the early morning sun. I would strongly recommend a visit to the Maclean Hotel.
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vivianne (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were great. The food was excellent. The rooms have recently been refurbished with very comfortable beds.
- Nelson (8/5): - our stay was easy and pleasant
- David (7/5): Good - very bright lights into room 18 from the amenities constantly flicking off & on
- Ado (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ado (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (5/5): Passable - A lovely building in the centre of Maclean right on the Clarence River Could have been cleaner..especially verandah area.
- Edward (8/5): - All Good
- John (6/5): - No ac clean public bathroom facilities
- Keith (8/5): Very good - Clean, friendly and very good value for money
- Barry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Katrina (2/5): Disappointed - The building was nice, old heritage hotel Room was overpriced for the smell of urine and the bed was so uncomfortable, we could barely sleep due to the springs digging into our backs.
- Felix (7/5): Simple low-cost stay that meets expectations. - Fairly old and basic rooms, but they were clean, nice and sufficient. Balcony with view over the main road was also nice. Shared bathrooms looked pretty new and clean. The common area could have been a bit more useful, e.g. provide guests plates, bowls and cutlery to eat their own breakfast or snacks.
- Kasun (10/5): - I only stayed one night, but it was a good experience. The rooms are in the pub and there are shared facilities. Everything was very clean and neat and felt quite safe. Check-in was pretty casual and smooth.
It's an older building and the rooms are basic, with the usual mini bar etc., the single beds were neat and clean. No AC, but I found that the fan was enough. No complaints here.
- Rani (1/5): Cockroach Infested hotel! Hotel from hell - The bathroom sink and mirror was always clean Where to start...
The hotel is infested with cockroaches. They scurry off at night when you walk to the shared bathroom but worst of all they come into your room and into your bed!! We had the experience to wake up to one scratching my neck in the middle of the night, my soul left my body at that moment and I screamed bloody murder!! Also found a live one in the bed covers in the morning and another climbing the walk next to our bed.
There was a dead geco on the shared toilet floor for 2 days!
And let's not forget the dirty room floor with balls of fluff under the bed (40cm off the ground so vacuuming shouldn't be too hard)!
The bed sheets were ok but the pillow cases had shoe marks on them and white smears on the bed cover.
FOR YOUR SAKE DO NOT TAKE A ROOM
- Joanne (10/5): - Staff were lovely. Was all very clean
- Kerrie (5/5): Passable - Convenient for us The counter staff were rude and sarcastic,
Shared bathrooms
- Dipendra (1/5): Bad - Nothing. Everything was outdated, no air con, there was dead cockroache in the room and the crawling cockroaches in the other room The rooms were very dirty. The door of the wardrobe does not close and makes squealing noise like in a horror movie.
- Russell (8/5): Very good -
- drew (8/5): - Didn’t realise it would have communal bathrooms. Should have thought about it as it is a 150 year old hotel.
It was fine we adapted and thought it was an interesting little twist to make out road trip more memorable.
- Alison (8/5): Comfortable rooms and clean bathroom. Nice meals - Nice rooms with clean shared bathroom We were right near the front verandah and unfortunately some guests were a little noisy up until 2am
- Brookes (10/5): The staff were very friendly and their service was fantastic. I would recommend this to anybody great for money in a ver - Very Clean & Easy To Find Parking No Negatives from me at all
- Ado (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rowland (2/5): Very poor -
- Patrick (8/5): - Simple lodgings but certainly up to par, the only issue I found was the hot water in the shared bathroom was very slow to heat and barely got more than luke warm but the location had incredible views of the river, fair rates, and a great menu at the attached restaurant.
- Amit (4/5): - Room was very small and bed was uncomfortable. Good we were only in for one night.
- Greg (8/5): Very good - Cold shower in the morning
- Ronald (4/5): Good location but overpriced. - N/a Small room, squeaky bed.
- Jyann (8/5): Very good -
- David (7/5): Basic hotel room which was comfortable with very clean shared facilities - Good location in centre of Maclean. Room was comfortable and shared facilities were very clean. Hotel provided good meals
- Equine (5/5): If travelling for work, its a cheap option, if you don't mind a bit of noise. - Location was fine, staff were friendly enough, food was standard pub food There was no hot water for the showers. Maybe got about 30seconds to a minute of lukewarm water before going cold. It's an old historic building which is great, however this means the noise travels through the accomodation area. We had someone next to us who had his TV on loud all night, and in the morning a group of men were using the kitchen who were not at all considerate to the fact that there were other guests. This is no the fault of the hotel staff or anything, just what you get with thin walls of old buildings.
- Ayane (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (2/5): Room very sparse bed uncomfortable and food poor - nothing Everything
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good -
- Jessica (8/5): Very good - Room and clean Clean but the only thing I could say NO AIR CONDITIONING 🙄🤔
- Adrian (2/5): - I am 6 foot 5 inches and yes I should have read the description better but a single bunk bed was very uncomfortable In a small room with no aircon, I went downstairs for dinner after I checked in and had a shower ( in a share bathroom) I ordered there weekly special which was a rub eye on the bone. I was using the toilet for the next day and a half!!! I will not be in a hurry to go back there at all
- Christine (10/5): - The property was so clean and neat. Staff helpful and assisting. Plenty of provisions provided.
- Kai (8/5): - Proximity to middle of town is excellent. Great pub below, not too noisy which was surprising.
The mattresses were pretty awful though. Actually, I don't think I have been stabbed by as many springs ever before! In all seriousness, we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel except the mattresses.
