Guest Reviews
- chrislU2855ZV (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE!! EVER!!! - I found uncapped dirty needles in my room?!
the bed had dirty sheets on it, the floors had not be vaccumes in a very long time, every surface was either covered in dust or grime...
absolutely disgusting.
I cannot believe this place is even still open. google is filled with reviews about its abhorrent state .
this place should be demolished.
- michelletR417PA (2/5): What a dump - I have never written a review re. accommodation but this is so necessary.
I am a senior citizen and looking for a full time rental, it’s extremely hard on
my income so I have to rely on temporary accommodation at present.
I was put up at the Mayfield Motel for 8 nights and I have never been so
scared in my life. The office is NEVER attended, I saw the cleaner once
outside and the place is filthy…filthy! There was a microwave, kettle and
toaster but the power points didn’t work. Everything I touched was sticky,
I wore shoes the whole time because I didn’t know what was on the carpet.
It took me over an hour to clean the shower and had to soak the shower
curtain because it was covered in mould! I thankfully had my own linen,
pillows and doona. Don’t start me on that! 😖
This motel is temporary accommodation for addicts and homeless, no one
cleans the pool or surrounds and the car park is littered with cigarette butts.
In my 7 days there was no manager sited, office never open ( the
sign on the door was false) Office hours 9am-8pm…What a joke!
I called the number on the door…by the way..that’s the only form
of communication.
Do yourself a favour….drive a bit further to the other motels and pay
a bit more. Trust me …do not stay here!
- Chrisso1969s (2/5): Check the room and underneath the bed before you pay. - Biggest mistake I ever made… Don’t stay here!!!
After reading some reviews, and needing a place to stay for 5nts while doing a training course, it ticked the boxes that I heeded, manly the location! Unfortunately after the first night of no sleep due to the noise from, what I would say drug dealing from other room?’s! Loud violent voices, it was scary… I asked to cancel the next 4nts to move elsewhere but was denied a refund! Stuck in hell for 5nts, better get some earbuds… so I unpacked and had a look at the room. OMG phots attached! The cleanliness of the room was a disgrace… FYI a health hazard, what I found under the bed, and the dust everywhere… after showing the manager, he still refused my refund and said that all other rooms are book? I have it cleaned tomorrow, sit mate I’ve need to sleep in this mess! Then I was told, leave if you’re not happy. WTF! Pls pls pls do stay here! I never write reviews, but I have to let everyone know how bad this place is. Look at the room and underneath the bed before you pay!!!
- Alexis (10/5): - Retro style little motel. Easy check in, as we arrived late at night and the room was set up for us to just walk in and collapse. Clean facilities. Within very short drive of a fab cafe - onyx - where we went for a pretty awesome brekky the next day.
- Nicole (4/5): - Looks better than actual. Room smell - like fish! Bathroom - toilet leaking, mouldy shower curtain and dead insects all over ceiling! Not great!
- Nathaniel (10/5): - Ready and easy
- Melissa (6/5): - carpet and floors dirty and mold in shower. not able to adjust cooling as air conditioner was too high to reach unless you stood on a chair. Bed was uncomfortable and lumpy old pillows. Very out dated motel.
- Carmen (8/5): - Close to hospital that we needed to go to. Motel very basic, but clean & tidy
- Verified traveler (6/5): - it was a very old and antiqued shower recess very cold room with a strip heater to keep warm
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Liked that it had a heater.
Room was a bit cramped for four of us but was clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Although an older motel, clean and comfortable room.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Will be staying here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Neat, clean, good value - Perfect for a good place to sleep for a short visit. Very helpful staff, easy to access surrounds. Appearance of a classic Motel from the past. Fairly quiet - lovely birds in the morning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great staff and very friendly and helpful. As a regular traveller there is no laundry and pool was little dirty. All in all great bed and okay for 3 star motel.
- BassdrumR (8/5): lovely manager and lovely Motel to stay at - My wife and I are always delighted to stay at this quaint Motel. The Manager has a lovely happy disposition and is very welcoming. The Room was very comfortable and we both had a great night's sleep. The bed is so comphie with a few pillows to choose from. The shower was great and heated up in split seconds. Excellent value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cheap; lovely, helpful lady running the motel. Motel a bit dated but fine for place to sleep on our journey. Arrived very late but was given instructions how to find key.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to where my son is house-sharing ,clean and comfortable, good price and, slightly out of central Newcastle.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Needs a makeover noisy location very friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable to stay & close amenity areas.
Very clean inside.
Many Thanks
- Verified traveler (10/5): - How they keeped the retro look of the place and close it was to everything
- MrsCarlaS (10/5): Vintage Gem! - I stayed here on a Friday night in May, en route to a friend’s house. I’d searched the Internet looking for a 1960s motel in the area and was so excited to find the Mayfield.
My stay did not disappoint. Kathy the owner was just lovely. Welcoming, warm, and had a wonderful knowledge of the area and some great stories to tell.
My room was cosy, spotless and comfortable, and I slept like a baby. The fresh milk on arrival was a great, homely touch.
I would have loved to take a dip in the pool under the palm trees but it was a little chilly for that. I’m planning another visit soon as the vintage charm and neon signage of this motel has me hooked!
Thanks Kathy, for a fabulous stay. I can’t recommend your motel enough!
- J2429JUwilliamb (8/5): Weekend away - Stayed here for 2 nights about 3 weeks ago for the steamfest festival which was great fun. Fairly good size motel room plenty of parking just off the main road, had 32in TV and microwave which came in handy as I brought my own food cheaper, also had free WiFi but wasn't working properly thanks to optus other wise it was pretty quiet, bed was comfortable, the only thing I would is the curtains as their nearly see through instead of block out ones. Shop we're only about 20min down the road. Good hosts nice and friendly too.
- aussiescotts (8/5): Basic Motel but well worth the price - It is a 3 star motel but everything you need if you just need somewhere to rest your head and have a shower. Staff were very friendly and location to the airport was very convenient.
Bed was comfortable and did have tea and coffee making facilities.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I Liked the Proprietor and beds were comfortable.
The place needed a renovation, it was dilapidated with old aircon and very little room in Bathroom
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A simple motel but clean and comfortable bed. Reasonably quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - old style motel well looked after and in very good condition.
Air a little noisy
beds very comfortable and plenty of hot water
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were amazing... the room was a bit small but the aircon was awesome :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were great room was good it just would have been better if there was more then 1 double power point
- Batty56 (8/5): An oldie, but a goodie - Rooms are basic but clean and have everything required, including a multi power point next to the bed which also has USB points- great for charging the mobile. Plenty of hot water and bed is comfortable. Breakfast is also available for a good price. There is a pool onsite which many of the other local motels don't have, so great for Summer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good and very clean 2.5 star motel. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice room for a family, quite area and helpful staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): Comfortable basic overnight accomodation - Although we arrived after hours due to a delayed flight we were given a personal welcome with the key to our twin room. The room was clean and basic with comfortable beds, air conditioner and fridge. Bathroom was small and older style but clean and functional with a good, hot shower. Despite being near a junction, it was quiet at night.
- John (8/5): - Kathy was accommodating and friendly. The motel was cheap
- UniquePerth (4/5): Budget Motel in Mayfield - Small, compact room - clean and tidy. Disappointed that our host was not more friendly, just accommodating even though we thought we had some common interests. Was adequate for a night but there are far better places nearby that are cheaper with breakfast included. It was a semi reasonable experience at the time. It is an older style motel which is very basic.
- Verified traveler (8/5): convenient - Nice and covenient. Bit pricey but thats gst for ya
- Todd (8/5): - The building is starting to show its age, but good value for money.
- AlanM4565 (6/5): Cheap and friendly - Stayed here long weekend, clean and comfortable, decor was original 60’s Cooked breakfast not available but choice of local cuisine was good. Access to motel is good and pool looks inviting I will be back
- Marcustowsonp187 (8/5): Mayfield motel - A great cozy motel and Greeted by the Lovely manager/owner! Nice sized room, with Comfy beds! Clean room comes with a decent sized en-suite, a tv, and coffee making facilities, and an in ground pool on site! This motel is located very close to Woolworths and plenty of takeaways, I would certainly stay here again!
- Sandy (10/5): - Lovely staff, close to shops and convenient for our stay.
- Sue-Ellen (6/5): Handy - Location was handy for our visit which was dominated by a funeral.
6 days I would have rather spent elsewhere,
- leoniev847 (10/5): Very convenient place to stay - We stayed at this motel overnight because I had to be at the John Hunter Hospital at 6 am the next morning. The beds were comfortable, good amenities and extremely friendly lady on front desk. The room was very clean, and quiet too, despite being on a main road. Will stay there again if visiting the hospital.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient situation. Easy to get from and to motorway
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A cosy cheap room for a family just needing beds for sleeping for an overnight stay.
- Cherish59 (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - We were looking for a nights stay in Newcastle close to stadium for the footy and this was our pick. About 10 minutes away. The owner is a lovely lady and very helpful with atm locations and places for for dinner. It’s an older style motel and in saying that it wasn’t a problem, everything worked, shower was good and hot water quick to come through, bed comfortable, I had a good nights sleep, jug and tea/coffee and heaters. If your looking for 5 Star then this place isn’t for you. At $107 a room per night it’s great value and would definitely stay again for what we needed.
- Brian (8/5): - Room a bit on the small side & dated, but clean & neat. Staff very friendly! Close to McDonald Jones Stadium, would stay there again.
- 897monicam (10/5): Motel - Stayed in this lovely motel Saturday night was lovely room very clean & tidy had everything we needed microwave bar fridge didn’t have toaster I asked at reception & the lovely lady bought one down within 5 minutes. She was so helpful & friendly. We where very surprised as being on the main road it wasn’t very noisy easy parking. The only thing that needs fixing is the curtains.
- Alpaca35 (6/5): Classic 60s motel - Their website boasts that it is a classic 60s design. That it is. Very tired but clean. Very small room. Even the drain cover in the bathroom had half the chrome warn off. The whole place needs a tasteful renovation. The bed was ok, but the bed cover was outdated. The host was very nice and gave me a little plastic takeaway container of milk for tea/coffee. I couldn't think of a cheaper solution! Pool was clean but cold (it was mid 30s air temperature, so a dip would have been nice). Lots of traffic noise. It was liveable but not somewhere to go on holidays (when generally I want a treat!).
- Gillian (6/5): Weekend getaway - Basic but comfortable, nice salt pool, easy access to Hunter Valley. Convenient, shops close by.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Adequate accommodation. Comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful staff. A good location for us.
- 975brentd (6/5): Very Basic - No frills accommodation. It is close to the M1 and ok for an overnight stay. The bathrooms are very small. There only appeared to be 5 Foxtel channels and the picture was very snowy. Free Wi-Fi. Although the rooms are quite clean, this gets over shadowed because everything is so old and dated. I personally think it is overpriced for what you get.
- jenniferwD7082TP (10/5): lovely spot to stay - We couldn't find anything actually in Newcastle, so ended up here. A lovely spot to stay, and the owner recommended a really good restaurant not too far away. Very happy with our overnight at Mayfield.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Older hotel but clean and friendly. We were happy with the place
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Noisy location.
Tiny room.
Particularly uncomfortable bed.
Toilet leaked onto the floor.
Hot water ran out.
Very nice owner.
- TomR744 (8/5): Really Good - We pulled off the road at this motel at random after driving down from Brisbane, right from checking room availability till check out we were pleasantly surprised by the tariff, appearance and condition of the room , friendliness of the owners , and the great breakfast, we recommend if you are in the Newcastle area looking for a pleasant place to stay you select the Mayfield Motel .
- madiss0na (2/5): Overnight Stay. - Had an overnight stay at the motel. We were placed in a cold, small room which was very unwelcoming. It was very overpriced for what we were given. The beds were very uncomfortable which made it hard to sleep in. It was very outdated which was disappointing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Well priced clean room - Short overnight stay. Close to city and easy to get to most places in town
- Sue_Drain (8/5): Good basic overnight accommodation - I attended a benefit night for a friend along with my partner and a couple of friends. I'd initially booked 2 double rooms, but Kathy not only changed the rooms for me, she put us just 1 door apart in a corner of the complex which was very handy.
The rooms are old style but well maintained, the showers good strength, the beds basic but ok for a night. Accommodation in urban areas in NSW is ridiculously expensive, but this was good value.
Unfortunately they are having problems with their wifi (NBN since late last year) - again, not too bad a problem since we were only there 1 night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Reasonable cheap hotel for overnight stay - Basic facilities, bedding clean and comfortable, good for cheap overnight stay. Not too far from main highway, lacks a bit in being a bit far from shops, restaurants etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really nice place with character and very helpful owner.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and comfortable. - I found the motel comfortable with everything working well. The host and hostess are welcoming and nothing seems a trouble to them. I found the location very convenient for the things I needed to do.
- nurse (6/5): Accommodation is adequate, nothing flash, basic - motel close to Newcastle CBD, easy to access, basic accommodation , has all one could need, nothing more, very small rooms.
- Margaret (6/5): - Very old building in original condition. Staff very friendly.
- Trevor (8/5): - Perfect for what I wanted, a bed for a few days while I was in Newcastle. Not a high class motel but priced right.
- Ajay (4/5): - Simple small clean
- John (8/5): Very friendly welcome & a basic but clean room. - The receptionist greeted us with a big friendly smile & was most helpful. The room itself was basic but clean & comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Peaceful. Easy to access all parts of newcastle. Parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - friendly and helpful staff clean and comfortable room close to main road but reasonably quiet would stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice staff. and great location - This motel is old but fine for a bed for the night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice comfy stay, what you would like in any accomodation
- p (8/5): Helpful management. - Eat at the BOWLING CLUB about 2 blocks below the hotel, on the same route. Get Hamburger with "the Works".
- Mary (10/5): Home away from home - Very lovely place to stay with impeccable service. I appreciated the pristine linen in the room as well as the cleanliness.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good Motel, old but renovated. Clean, comfortable. - As stated above this is an old Motel that has been renovated. It was clean, comfortable and that's what you want. Management was very nice and helpful and very friendly.
- Suzanne (8/5): Mayfield Motel a great place to stay - Great place to stay whilst catching up with Newcastle friends
- Verified traveler (10/5): Oldie but a goldie - Quite rustic. Mayfield motel is an older style motel. Being situated just off the highway into Newcastle it is very conveniently located and easy to get in and out of.
- David (8/5): - Clean comfortable room friendly service
- Roger (8/5): Stay at Mayfield Motel - Just what was required
- Patricia (8/5): Basic and friendly - Very friendly staff and a quiet neighbourhood. Not far from Newcastle with a country feel
- JD (6/5): Cheap but clean - Stayed for one night. The place is clean and value for money
- Verified traveler (10/5): We enjoyed our stay - We enjoyed the friendly staff ,cleanliness , comfort , location and value
- Tess (6/5): OK Place - Staff was lovely, quite clean, but very noisy and the bed was so low what I struggled to get in and out of it without hurting my back. Would be good for young people or really short people.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice motel, easy access - Leaving the booking late, I was a bit hesitant to what we were going to get for a 2 star Motel and it probably would not have been my first choice, however it was great, better than some 3 - 3 1/2 stars we have stayed in in the area. The Staff were lovely, very welcoming even with a late arrival. Both rooms we booked were very comfortable and clean. Hot showers and a comfy bed and would definitely stay there again . Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): comfortable and economic - Very friendly reception, comfortable and clean room, quiet and relaxing environment. The price is economic for this condition. If I need to go there, I will choose this motel again.
- David (8/5): Comfortable stay, Motel was clean. - The motel was comfortable and clean, but a little run down. Had a room to myself. May have been a bit squashy with 2 people. Bed was comfortable. Facilities could have been improved. The fridge froze items. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was good for my visit. Tariff was a little expensive for location and single person staying. Best for single males.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its ok for a quick stay, nothing fancy, has the basics.
- Kevin (6/5): - Served the purpose of somewhere to stay while wife was in hospital for surgery
- Norelle (10/5): - Facilities: Modest; Value: Great deal; Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Spotless;
