- Belinda (10/5): - Excellent location and room perfect.
- Robbie (10/5): - Beautifully appointed rooms and fantastic thoughtful service. Lovely location on the park with gorgeous gardens for breakfast coffee.
- Bryan (10/5): - The building has a lot of character with the rooms being very nicely appointed
- KATHRYN (10/5): - The period features were beautiful and the staff were fantastic
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A room and place you actually love to spend time in. The size and ceiling height, old style antique furniture, historic architectural features and modern art, ‘Keeping time’ room was perfect for a romantic getaway. The hosts and on-site cafe add to the experience of a paddock to plate in an intimate setting, excellent food and service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A gem in Wagga Wagga
Beautiful room, fabulous cafe and wonderful owners
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely to stay at a period home. Host couldn’t do enough she was lovely. Would have loved to have seen more of the house and antiques. Have a Resturaunt breakfast was amazing, and staff very efficient Thankyou.
- Kim (10/5): - Always a lovely stay at Mates Gully - a wonderful oasis in Wagga Wagga
- Verified traveler (10/5): - loved the architecture, interior design and original artworks everywhere. Also loveds having a mixture of old and new. my room had an old radio still functioning. Homely feel. The Owner also accomodated my unexpected early arrival, and following day opened the cafe a little earlier to organised breakfast for me. Delicious omellette with home made relish and homade bread. From the bathroom, there was a gorgeous view to the park, and at night, to my surprised, a large tree with fairy lights. i was there for work and didn't have much leisure time, but I'd like to go back and enjoy position and hospitality. Also liked the toiletries in large containers and not the plastic throwaways minimising plastic polution.
the room i stayed in needs little bits of maintenance but ongoing in an older property. they were painting parts of the exterior when i was there. Not for those expecting a travelodge experience, but for travellers that want attention to detail and something comfortable and more sophisticated.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Currently under renovation and so scaffolding across the front. painters worked the full weekend starting at 7.30 am on Saturday and 8.30 am on Sunday. Restaurant NOT open despite advertising on website.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Show night - Great! So convenient to the Civic Centre. Only issue was the noisy venue round the corner
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I laved the space and the beauty of the room. It was qoiet and restful. The staff were excellent, welcoming and observant. Close to a beautiful park and lagoon and the shopping prescient. Food is fabulous.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Charming old house, comfortable bed, walking distance to town
- leonie (2/5): - tay was ucomfortable due t loud music and loud voices emanating from the hotel next door. The room was small and not good value for the price. The welcome greeting was poor due to only one staff member managing both restaurant and room reception. It was very rushed. The property was clean.
- Maria (10/5): - Beautiful eclectic decor, very intimate and warm. Service was very good and it was close to everything in town
- Ruth (8/5): Amazing old building - Three adults stayed in the one room with an en-suite bathroom. The old fashioned furnishings and character of the building was lovely and the service was great. The only problem was that the room was set up for only 2 people, so there was no cup, glass or plate did the 3rd person and we only got an extra towel because we asked the manager before he left for the evening. Otherwise a good night
- Peter (6/5): Disappointed - Room is Victorian style Price is high for what you get. No staff around to check in and phone wasn’t answered for 15 mins.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely and unique accommodation, lovely hosts, lovely food. Delightful experience. Wouldn't miss staying here on our next visit to Wagga Wagga.
- Eric (10/5): - Lovely ambience and very good position close to Civic Theatre and main street. Great original art work.
- Kristian (10/5): So much better then staying in a Motel - This place was amazing The home was built in the late 1800 and I am so glad its still here today. The room I stayed in was very big with a 4 posted bed and had a bathroom with a nice spa bath. This B&B was next to the main street with restaurants and Cafes and Bars minutes away. The home has a café that was nice to have breakfast in sitting by the fire. I would recommend staying here over a Motel as it was the same price with the same amount of privacy. I will be back next time I visit Wagga Wagga.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was an interesting property with loads of old world character
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful building and excellent location. Our room was very comfortable. Hosts or staff seemed somewhat indifferent, but seem to be more involved in restaurant activities downstairs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A gorgeous old building, beautifully decorated with fabulous art and nice furnishings. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the spa suite room. The host was very welcoming on arrival had the room all heated ready for us.
Would highly recommend this beautiful accommodation.
- Julianne (8/5): Lovely Stay. - We had a lovely overnight stay here. It was our second time staying here and we loved it. We were in the smaller room which was perfect for an overnight stay. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking over into the park as we had our coffee. The restaurant downstairs is beautiful and did lovely wood fired pizza and breakfasts. Highly recommend staying here for couples who want somewhere with character and delicious food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great!! - I had a great stay! Such a warm, friendly welcome.
Loved the building and the homely room.
Dinner at the restaurant was FANTASTIC! Thank you to the chef!!
Convenient to everything!
The only downside was the thumping music from a nearby bar/courtyard until midnight.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location with old world charm.
Pleasant staff. We'll come again.
- Andrew (6/5): - Quiet heritage guesthouse in central location. Clean room. Could improve on little things like making sure that on arrival there is milk in the fridge for tea or coffee, the soap dispenser is working in the bathroom, and guests are given a WIFI password on checkout.
- Jo (10/5): Great accommodation - Fantastic accommodation always love staying here
- Paula (10/5): - Dedicated owner/operator. Tasteful decor, great food and location. Very exciting to find such a small Inn in the heart of Wagga, opposite the park and lagoon.
- Antonietta (10/5): Warm Welcome with Old World Charm & Sumptious Food - We had an overnight stay at Mates Gully on our way to Sydney. We wanted to avoid the sterility of a hotel and the dated, staid accommodation of a motor in. We had an exceptional stay here. Marcia, the owner greeted us warmly when we arrived and Gobinda took or bags upstairs for us. The home is full of Edwardian charm with a beautiful carved wooden staircase winding up to the rooms. We stayed in the room Keeping Time which has a four poster bed, a small dining table and chairs to relax in and have coffee. It is a generous sized room with a decorative fireplace and high pressed metal ceilings. Across the hall there is a library with comfy arm chairs but I chose to read on the upstairs balcony which has a beautiful view of the park. The house has a lovely tesselated verandah where we enjoyed a glass of wine. We ate dinner in the restaurant downstairs in front of an open fire. Lovely ambience and the food was sublime. Shivani, the chef cooks with love and care. Much of the produce comes from their local farm. The freshness was obvious in the delicious vegetable and smoky ham soup we had for entree. The lamb cutlets were tender and served with delicious vegetables from the farm. A hot butterscotch and hazelnut pudding and Eton Mess for my son completed a wonderful meal.We thoroughly recommend Mates Gully for its warm staff, quality food and comfortable rooms in gorgeous period surroundings.
- Sam (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay in comfort and friendly surroundings. Very peaceful, with a park opposite. Enjoyed our stay, wish it could have been longer. Maybe next time.
- Narelle (10/5): Stay at Mates Gully - Loved the old building and the eclectic decorating. Very comfortable and the hosts were friendly, informative and welcoming.
- David (10/5): - Great heritage building which is well presented and run!
- Peter (10/5): Eccentric stay. - Wonderful funky boutique hotel. The welcome could not have been better, the room was quite superb and the hotel itself, interesting at every turn.
- Gary (10/5): The best in Wagga - A really unique place to stay with plenty of authentic character. Very comfortable warm, friendly and clean. It will be our first choice when visiting Wagga Wagga in the future.
- Jo (10/5): Beautiful (and enormous) room. Fantastic food.
- Highly recommended for the food and the accommodation.
- fred (10/5): Beautifully decorated old heritage building - For us personally it was exactly what we thought it would be and the staff made it all that much better
- Scott (10/5): - Very well located to shops. Lovely old charm building. Our room was up the stairs and tucked away, Which gave us our privacy and such a relaxing room. The staff greeted us and made sure we were ok
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Heating in the room didn't work and its winter. Luckily they had electric blankets. The shower area was always wet due to its layout, made it hard to get to the toilet without walking on wet floor.
The dining was great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful stay. Excellent location near the river and park. Walking was very easy and close to everything. Loved the comfy bed and quiet room. We discovered ‘The Thirsty Crow’ on our late afternoon walk so we ate an early dinner there (excellent) and then came back to Mates Gully to enjoy dessert and wine by the fireside. Absolutely perfect! Then a delightful brekkie outside out on the patio in the morning. It was all wonderful. Thank you Marcia and team for your warm and welcoming hospitality.
- D (10/5): - Very welcoming and friendly place. Different, but a very pleasant hotel to stay on. Quirky but well worth staying in. Staff very friendly. Main centre of Wagga Wagga easily accessible.
- Ros (8/5): - We stayed for 2 nights and had a luncheon on Saturday in the function room for my husband’s 70 th Birthday.
Marcia was a marvellous hostess & catered for our every need. The food, accommodation & ambience of Mate’s Gully was just perfect for our occasion.
- Lisa (8/5): - Spacious and comfortable, convenient location for accessing centre of Wagga. Full of character, pleasant alternative to generic hotels. Very happy to be given room upgrade.
- CC (10/5): - Beautiful homey hotel with a lot of character, delicious food, excellent location!
- Rocoll (10/5): Classic old world charm with modern conveniences - Excellent. We'll be coming back.
The staff were excellent with attentive service and excellent food.
When you stay be sure to stay for dinner and breakfast. Local produce is a feature with home grown organic foods where possible.
5 stars for sure.
- Aussie Granny (10/5): Convenient Central Location - Opposite the park, a moments walk to the main street, this accommodation suited us very well. It was quiet, bed was comfortable, lovely cafe downstairs, communal guest lounge upstairs, room had all the usual comforts. Just so you know, the stairs are quite steep and the accomodation is all upstairs.
We would happily stay again.
- Michele (10/5): Charming large room of yesteryear - Loved the bathroom and the large room and great mattress. Pillows just a bit hard to sleep on though. But overall loved the ambience. Marcia was very welcoming and treated us like VIPs. Thank you.
