Guest Reviews
- Hanara (8/5): - I loved this place only thing I will do next time is get my own room as my brother and cousin snore loudly lol otherwise it was awesome cheap clean warm and very friendly highly recommend this place. Sheared room with my brother and cousin lol
- Barbara (9/5): Friendly, clean, comfortable, handy location & parking. - I was cold in bed - the bed covers wouldn't stay on, then found in the morning that the top quilt had fallen off. There was nothing to hold the bed covers on the bed - it would have been improved with a top sheet or some way of tucking them in.

- Adie (8/5): Hanmer Springs - It was a friendly place to stay. Ideally placed in the town. Well equipped kitchen. The soundproofing of rooms wasn't great, and would have liked a kettle in the room.
- Maggie (10/5): Boyle - It's location, the only accomadation in a remote areA. The sandflies

- Tara (10/5): - Welcoming and close to everything Na
- Nicole (10/5): Easy stay after a long road trip. - A perfect location, walking distance into town. My partner and I had a private room and it was well set up with a fan and roof top window. Great price for the location in Hanmer. Will definately stay again.
Bathrooms were very clean too and you got an entire bathroom to yourself which is something I like.
Staff were lovely. Nothing, was great.

- Alison (9/5): - This is a great budget accommodation with very welcoming staff, a comfortable communal area and private garden. The kitchen is really clean and well provisioned with lovely extras like condiments and spices. The free massage chair was an absolute winner! Beds were comfy and with lovely crisp bed linen. Nothing!
- Stewart (8/5): - Clean tidy, cosy.
- CAROLYN (8/5): Great location in Hanmer Springs - Fantastic location only 500m from Geothermal pools and easy access to food shops and restaurants.
Alpine feel to accomodation and bed comfy. Plenty of space in fridges for food storage. Lovely log fire in communal area. Double room was very small with no storage for stuff. Room a little chilly and nowhere to store wet gear.

- Guest (9/5): Great place! - It was the second time I went to this place but this time I booked with my friends a bigger room for us. It was a great room, really good beds, nice showers, massage chair, lounge and fireplace, just all you need on a cold rainy summer day (which happens every so often)

- Mike (7/5): -
- Kathy (10/5): - Close to town centre
- Eleanor (8/5): - The owners are lovely and the common area (kitchen and dining) is cozy, inviting and well equipped. The bathrooms are good and the location is excellent. When I stayed earlier this year I had one of the rooms in the main building which made sharing the bathroom no problem. This time however, my room was in a out-building which meant I had to go through the outside area to get to the bathroom. I found this disappointing and a bit annoying because I wasn't made aware of it. I probably wouldn't have booked the room if I had known it, especially because it was the same price as a room in the main building.
- Arend (9/5): Nice and relaxed stay. -
- Kevin (9/5): Excellent - Everything - good room & service Nothing
- Theo (10/5): Just all-round amazing! - Just had such a nice vibe! Very nice staff! Very easy to check in/out.
- Nicole (7/5): Amazing location and friendly owner - Very welcoming owner, great location, quiet hostel and shared spaces are neat and tidy. Ensuite bath and toilet are clean as well. Pillows are too low/flat for our liking. Room is quite outdated and needs better ventilation and lighting.
- Emma (8/5): - Location was good, was clean & tidy owner was very friendly. Parking was good. Had plenty of blankets and warm heater. My bed (double) was 2 beds pushed together was quite uncomfortable. We was in a shed sleep out & walls paper thin could hear them talking (next room on other side) for a hour from 11pm till 12am.

- sarrafaye (9/5): Comfortable Cabin-style stay - This accommodation feels more like a cozy cabin with individual rooms. Yoko was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating throughout our stay. The room was a great size for our small family, with a walk-in wardrobe that made it easy to store our luggage and belongings. The shared kitchen and dining area, located just off the hallway, was well-equipped with all the basics needed for cooking. There are two spacious and easily accessible toilet/shower rooms, which was very convenient. While there’s no TV, we really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and chat with other travelers—it added a warm, communal vibe to the experience. Downside was the pillows, which were quite thin and could use replacing for better comfort.
- Brent (8/5): Great affordable close to town - Close to town clean tidy and friendly Nil
- Becky (10/5): 10/10 a fabulous place to stay. - Amazing location. You can walk straight into town. Lovely owners who were so helpful and shared their local knowledge about good hikes. The blazing fire is super cosy and the massage chair a treat. Everything spotlessly clean. My favourite hostel on our South Island trip.
- Heather (9/5): Superb -
- Liliana (9/5): Superb -

- Pearl (10/5): Hanmer backpackers, cosy and warm. - Friendly greeting by host Tristan, on my arrival. It was a great welcoming to all facilities, and the house was so warm. The wood fire keeps everyone toasty. There is a fixed massage chair included for guest use and parking availability.
- Tainui (10/5): Very cosy very welcoming - Very friendly hosts Nothing
- Catherine (8/5): Very good - Value for money nothing
- Jakejakejake (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsay (8/5): Good basic place to stay for a night in Hanmer Springs. - Good location within walking distance to the pools and dining. Friendly host. Clean and comfortable. We were in an outside room so a trip to the bathroom at night wasn't quite what we expected.
- Indigo (9/5): Lovely homely hostel - Host was really friendly and bed was pretty comfortable. Kitchen was great but might be too small when there’s lots of people cooking. Bathrooms also seemed nice and clean. There was a really nice homely vibe and the people we chatted to were lovely. Also a free massage chair! One of the nicer hostels we’ve stayed in Low water pressure in the shower and the walls were very thin and we could hear people on the stairs and in the next room
- Merlyn (9/5): Superb -
- Noor (7/5): Good - Location -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Gillian (8/5): Very good -
- Natalie (10/5): Comfortable and cozy stay! - Hamner Backpackers is such a lovely place to stay! This quaint and cosy cabin has everything you need for a short or long stay. The owners are so kind and helpful and it is clean and comfortable. They even offer a 20min freebie on their massage chair each day of your stay. It's perfectly placed in the town of hanmer springs, with quick walking access to everything you need and everything you can explore!
- michael (10/5): - Great hosts. Very accommodating
- T G A Buma (6/5): An average stay - Converted garage, not connected to bathroom/kitchen facilities.
Clean and comfortable, but definitely not hotel standard.

- Paula (8/5): Very good - Excellent location you can walk down to town. Well equipped kitchen very pleasant dining room and outdoor areas. We stayed in unit 5 which was attached to the separate garage. lovely big comfortable bed, Bunks also in the room. Unit 5 is separate quiet accommodation but be aware you do need to go into the house to use the bathroom.
It's a great option for budget accommodation in Hanmer Springs.
Host is very prompt helpful and friendly.
- Eleanor (9/5): I'll be back. - Very welcoming and homely. Excellent location An extra shower and a separate toilet. Unfortunately whoever were using the 2 showers on the ground floor (I don't know whether there is another one on the first floor) were taking their time! Very awkward especially with no other toilet on the ground floor.

- Ruth (9/5): Excellent hostel. Highly recommended. - Excellent location in the centre of town.
Friendly welcome on arrival.
The hostel was spotlessly clean - bathroom & kitchen included.
Had everything we needed to cook, clean our clothes and for a comfortable stay.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Friendly, clean place to stay Liked it very much
- Sarahmaria (9/5): Good - Nice location If you need to use the bbq you have to pay 20$ as a bond. We cleared it but landlord said it wasn’t good enough.
- Kirsten (5/5): I have been to other places where you get more for the same price - Really clean Very noisy in the bedroom we had and there was only just enough room to swing a cat. Mattress was so soft that we both kept rolling into the middle of the bed as it was quite a small sized double. There was a large painting hanging over the bed so we were unable to sit up in bed.
The walls were so thin that we had to listen to people peeing in the toilet.
- Chloe (8/5): Very good - This hostel is great value for money, the location is in walking distance to the main springs and restaurants and the beds are super comfy. Really nice outdoor area.
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (8/5): Comfy n great location. Walkable to hot springs. - Location amazing. Use of kitchen great. Just not after 10pm which makes us night owls a bit challenged but no worries. Room a bit tight on space if you are a larger person. Otherwise, comfy. Some other guests a bit noisy as upstairs people had heavy feet. Not much you can do but just be aware. Bathroom use can get busy so maybe time your use when free
- Bev (9/5): Superb -
- Dalise (9/5): Overall it was a good place to stay - The property was handily situated
The staff were friendly and it was very clean We didn’t like having to go into another building to go to the toilet.
The room outside was fine but a bit of a walk in the middle of the night
- Andre (10/5): Exceptional -
