Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great stay, highly recommended
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Well presented, authentic and comfortable accommodation. It had all the little touches including hot muffins on a cold day, quality linen beautifully presented.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place and owners. A pleasure to visit. Will visit again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is superb, the owners are gorgeous people you feel like part of the family. I was staying in one night and a delicious home cooked roast was offered. You don’t get that from many places. A delicious cooked breakfast every morning, the best Bircher muesli I’ve ever had.
Love the place I have made it my stay place whenever I’m in Tasmania.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hosts made us feel welcome and they went out of their way to make us feel at home, recommend this place to anyone
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place! Very good hospitality, beautiful house!
- Chris (10/5): Great spot - Amazing every thing, welcome, local info and that feel at home feeling. Breakfast was great, Great home made jams, stewed fruit. Freshly cooked muffins delivered to the room and a complimentary port to finish the day. A great two days. Thanks Annabelle
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A beautiful relaxing old world Inn. My room was amazing, beautifully appointed antique furniture and nic naks . Very comfortable bed with quality bedding. Lovely place to stay.
The garden was a haven to sit and read or just take in the ambience.
Breakfast was delicious with home grown ingredients.
Loved every minute.
- Steve (10/5): - We enjoyed everything about this hotel, in particular, the exceptional hospitality of the hosts. Our room was quiet, exceptionally clean and comfortable, and lacked for nothing. Each day we were served a tasty breakfast in a stunning dining room with a roaring fire, and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. We were made to feel more like family than guests. I would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Daryl (10/5): Fantasic heritage experience - Fantastic heritage property so close to Launceston. Friendly hosts and home cooked breakfast was a standout. Will be back for sure!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s a great accommodation and I have never been to such kind of hotel before and it was a great experience for me
- Ann (10/5): A gem - This place is amazing - great hosts, fantastic breakfast (the best I think we've ever had), lovely rooms and a good quiet location. The breakfast room is worth a visit - vaulted ceiling, large fireplace, comfortable couches... We'll definitely be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent hotel, highly recommended - Annabel was the best host we had during our trip in Tasmania
The hotel was charming with a delightful breakfast and garden
Strongly recommend staying at The Racecourse Inn if you visit the Launceston area
- Carolyn (10/5): Highly recommended! - Loved staying at the Racecourse Inn, couldn’t have chosen a better place. The hosts were so lovely making us feel right at home. Awesome breaky with cold & hot selections. Lovely veggie garden in the back yard along with 2 well fed sheep & chickens. The room was well appointed with a good shower. However the free wifi was a little slow but don’t let that put you off. Highly recommended!
- Rukshan (10/5): Perfect.!! - A great place, everything was just fine. Highly recommended.
- Andrew (10/5): Delightful find just outside Launceston - This is a real gem. An historic building in farming Tasmania but only 15 mins or so from central Launceston. On the outskirts of Longford, it was quiet at night. Good bed, the room had everything we needed with many thoughtful touches. With double glazing and aircon, the occasional traffic on the main road was not an issue at all even to me, a light sleeper. Breakfast was really excellent too - set us up for the whole day ahead. The Inn has been very sensitively restored by the Hosts with a real artistic eye. How lovely to have such fresh locally sourced food, fresh cut flowers from the garden, and excellent advice for eating in the evening. We wish we had booked more thank one night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great time...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
- Geoff Spark (10/5): Friendly staff lovely old building - This lovely old building in situated amongst a beautiful english garden. We were welcomed at the front door by three little birds whose mother had decided to build a nest right next to the front door.
It is a lovely place to stay if you happen to stop in Longford in your travels. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the building has a country / homely feel to it. The rooms are bright and airy, ideally suited to a summertime stay.
Breakfast was plentiful and cooked to order. Great way to start the day.
- Mary + Charles (10/5): Hospitality Plus - Wonderful stay in a wonderful B&B. Worth every cent. Most hospitable hosts, friendly, helpful, informative, welcoming , faultless. Great service. Only place to stay in the town of Longford. Great breakfasts, with great local produce and providence. Will be back there again. A reason why Tasmania is such a great destination. Good proximity to Launceston and north east and the north west coast.
- Jessica (10/5): A heritage itself, but refreshed and comfortable - Longford itself is a heritage town adorned with colonial style houses, with Racecourse being one of them. The building style, the design and furniture retain all that classical touch, so an Jane Austen fan like me would literally fall in love with the place, but the hosts have freshended up the place to make it clean and comfortable to stay in for everyone. Not lacking in any modern comforts, not to mention the Port wine, cookies and jelly beans that were a part of the wonderful hospitality. Not to forget the garden, 2 baby lambs, and the chicken that are adorable.
An absolute recommendation if you are visiting Woomer’s Estate & Brickendon farm, or even if you are just stopping over for a night when driving across from the east coast to Cradle Mountain like us.
- Rukshan (10/5): - Perfect Place to stay. Very friendly staff and beautiful gardens.
- Suzie (10/5): Fantastic BnB - From checkin to departure we could not fault the Racecourse Inn. Annabelle and Richard were the perfect hosts. All beautifull fresh produce from the garden for breakfast in abundance. 10 out of 10 !
- Keira (10/5): Home away from home - My partner and I stayed at the Racecourse Inn for a week. Both Richard and Annabelle were absolutely wonderful hosts and made us feel right a home from the very first day. The room was lovely and cosy, with little comforts such as a complimentary port, cookies and little water bottles, fantastic for the cool autumn weather in Longford.
The property is steeped in history and immaculately restored and maintained. Being only minutes from two world heritage sites makes it a fantastic base to explore the north of Tasmania, whilst still being able to return to a lovely comfortable country atmosphere.
I could not recommend the Racecourse Inn more if I tried, it is absolutely a wonderful place to stay for long or short periods of time, due to the fantastic hosts and excellent accommodation.
- Kathy (10/5): Beautiful historic Inn with amazing hosts - We stayed here as a last minute choice the night before heading out to the airport which is not far away. We had the Queen room upstairs. It was so lovely and comfortable. The bed was comfy and the room immaculately clean. Breakfast is ordered the night before and you get a lovely home cooked brekkie, very well presented by Annabel, the inn keep. The inn is full of history and interesting things and Annabel's beautiful art. It's close to the airport and several good places to eat. The gardens are delightful! The dining room had comfy seating, a roaring fire and a rare barrel ceiling. The details have been attended to properly in this place. You could just imagine the stagecoaches coming through in years gone by. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Tassie.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Warm welcome! - I chose the Racecourse because of its location--close to the Launceston Airport and to the major routes that would take me and my teenager to the National Parks where we were planning to hike on a short vacation to see Tasmania's natural wonders. But the Inn itself became one of the highlights of our trip. It is a beautiful old building surrounded by lovely gardens. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming and very helpful with our plans for day trips. The breakfasts were amazing; most of the items served had been sourced locally, including strawberries picked the afternoon before. Annabelle is an artist and we had a nice chat about colonial and contemporary art in Australia--anyone with a creative bent would be particularly welcome here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not a bad choice - The host was nice while the bed is a bit old but generally is a good place to stay
- John (10/5): Absolutely Amazing Owners - We had a short but wonderful stay at the historic Racecourse Inn. The owners, who were always on site, were gracious hosts that made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was a truly amazing experience! I would highly recommend this property!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great B&B with character - We stayed for one night on a short self-drive trip around Tassie.
We chose this B&B for its character, and the close proximity to Launceston.
The room had every convenience, with even some delicious freshly-baked muffins on our arrival.
The hosts were lovely, and very easy to chat to, and the accommodation included a hot breakfast which was delicious.
- Carolyn & Jeff (10/5): A Gem - Annabelle was an excellent hostess who provided extras that were not expected. Her local knowledge encouraged us to stay an extra night and fully experience the history of Longford. The breakfasts were something to savour with fresh home grown fruits and a full cooked breakfast. Extremely clean premises and one that should be experienced by all travellers.
- Adam (10/5): Perfect!!! - Perfect hosts! Amazing place !
Will be back to stay again and will recommend this B&B to everyone I know traveling Tassie.
The attention to detail was outstanding as were the breakfasts.
Thankyou A+++++++
- Roger (10/5): Roger from Melbourne - Wonderful historic hotel with beautiful grounds.
- happy guesr (10/5): Historic B and B in gorgeous setting - Recommend this top B and B, set in picturesque gardens in a peaceful historic village. Our hosts provided superb hospitality from the moment we arrived. Tastefully decorated large rooms, delicious breakfast, helpful information on World Heritage sites, local villages and services made it a very memorable experience. A fantastic place to stay and ideal base to explore the Midlands and only 20 minutes to the airport.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely B & B - This is a great B & B for overnight, or longer. The host was lovely and the room and facilities we excellent. Would stay here again.

- Great people, the most lovely breakfast. This is a gem of a place to stay
- Chris (10/5): A Tasmanian gem! - A fantastic bes and breakfast with amazing history and fantastic hosts. Breakfast and room were awesome.
- Marta & Tom (10/5): The charming country stay we dreamed about - We loved our stay at The Racecourse Inn- full of charm and surprises. We were greeted warmly by Annabel (who also created a lot of the beautiful art on the walls). We were only there for one night but it felt like coming home. Beyond a good room with everything you need, there were so many touches which made the stay such a delightful experience. From the fresh picked berries from the garden at breakfast, to the carafe of port in the room, the elegant decor, the lush garden vistas, historical notes in the room, and the simple things like Annabel greeting us by first name in the morning - our time there was one of the highlights of the trip to Tasmania. Definitely recommended.
- Denis & Janine (10/5): Comfortable old-style B & B near Launceston - Richard and Annabelle are friendly and thoughtful hosts. The rooms are comfortable with extra touches that add to the experience e.g. interesting biscuits along with a range of tea and coffee options. Breakfast included both cooked and continental options included in the price. The Racecourse Inn is close to some tourist destinations such as Woolmers and Brickendon Estates. The gardens in this area in November are superb and well worth a visit, especially the National Rose Garden at Woolmers. The Inn is only 20 minutes or so from Launceston as well.
- Sverker (10/5): Outstanding!!!! The best of the best! - Helt fantastisk miljö! Värdparets omtanke i en historisk miljö gör att upplevelsen är bland det bästa om inte det bästa du/ni kan få!
