This is the perfect place to find relaxation and also access all of the excitement and fun that Downtown Madison has to offer. Sunrises and sunsets are unparalleled and the hosts were welcoming and provided top-notch service! I hope to be able to stay again after their upcoming renovations.
- neil (4/5): - It is a nice idea but poorly executed. I am 80 with heart probs and was not told I'd b walking up with my luggage to the 3rd foor. There's a notice in the room apologizing for the room not yet having been renovated which should have been explained before selecting the place. It explained why the room was so dreary and shoddy. Didn't want my skin to touch anything.

Our Oscar Wilde room was so spacious and we had a corner view from both windows and a separate sitting area plus a surprisingly big bathroom with updated shower and tub and lots of amenities on hand; king bed very comfortable and thick towels a bonus on a cold night! Best part of our morning was the extra special ready made coffee and selection of scones and mini quiche and bread options with local touches (excellent jam and tea choices) and a wonderful setting to enjoy it all in one of several sitting areas, complete with views! Bob was wonderful, despite having had a late nite dealing with a guest issue who forgot key or code, and we appreciated the on-site parking off street ;) We will plan to stay again hopefully sooner vs.later - thanks again! The McHugh’s

I'm a light sleeper and there is plenty of creakiness to be heard and occasional banging/noise from pipes etc...just be warned. It is after all an old house....but we did have a nice stay. =)

There is a lovely community space to sit and sip tea. Everywhere you look there is art and plants. The owners are Covid- conscious, which is important. I appreciated their continental breakfast as well.

The king size bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is excellent, really enjoyed dining with the view of the lake. The Christmas decorations made the home even more beautiful. Can't wait for our next stay.

The owners have managed to combine period charm with high quality artisanal details, resulting in a comfortable place to relax after busy days in the state capital. Here and there are signs of long years of wear, but everything is serviceable and clean.

Ours was supposed to end at 5:30, but it was just after 6 when we finished, completely awed by their knowledge and passion. The continental breakfast is just that; not as complete as other B&B's probably offer. However, Bob's scones (his recipe perfected during a year of the pandemic) are the best I've ever, ever tasted! And, he willingly shares it.

The place was fully booked during our stay but it was still the most quiet and tranquil B&B experience I’ve ever had. Location is great too. The breakfast is continental but we really enjoyed it and had plenty to eat. Don’t hesitate to book this place.

I could not get any hot water from the sink in the bathroom, but my showers were fine. The front curtains could not be closed all the way because the air conditioner was running and I did not want to mess with it. Otherwise, the breakfast was lovely and it was a beautiful stay. I would love to see the other rooms!

- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely architecture and a beautiful view! - The house is quite charming and in a beautiful spot, facing the lake. The owners graciously invited my son, who lives locally, to join me for breakfast in the morning there, and the breakfasts were yummy! The first floor has really nice spaces to sit and have breakfast and look out over the lake, as well as a comfortable large living room with a gas fireplace - a nice spot to visit or to read a book. The shower in my room was a tub with a shower curtain, so if you are a heavyset person or want some space, you probably wouldn't want the James Baldwin room. I also felt it was odd, as a woman travelling alone, to have a bedroom door that I couldn't secure with a bolt lock separate from the lock that opens from the hallway with a key - that might just be my need for security while sleeping, as the home and the neighborhood did feel safe. I would stay there again!

Our room was large & spacious with a comfy seating area w/a tv, an electric fireplace, & a table for morning coffee, playing games or enjoying some take out. The shower/tub were nice! We didn't get a chance to try out the tub. We were happy we decided to go with 2 nights, we could truly felt at home and relaxed. The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. The views of the lake are stunning. The house is very comfortable, & has lots of character, I love the music they play on the first floor/community area, the coffee is amazing, all good vibes here, I would definitely recommend! Enjoy :)

Hand written note left to us by the owners explaining everything we needed to know about getting in our room and information about good places to eat. WALKABLE to State Street even in this crazy cold Wisconsin winter! Walked to/from The Orpheum for a concert and felt safe walking back at night. Our room was small but cozy! Just what we needed for the one night stay! In summer you would be able to enjoy the porch outside the room. The first floor has lots of room to relax in and is beautifully decorated..Will be back again

- Mary (10/5): - I went to school at UW-Madison and lived on Langdon street years ago, and always wanted to stay at Lake Mendota House. Finally got to do so and it was better than I imagined! Beautiful house built around 1910 (?) and the gardens around the house we’re magnificent too. Would highly recommend it!

- Dug (6/5): - Beautiful spot right on the lake. Nice outdoor seating area and a great porch/sunroom to sit in, relax, and look at the water. It could use some serious updating and remodeling though, especially for the price.
