Guest Reviews
- Lars (10/5): Bra hotell dålig frukost - Frukosten den sämsta jsg fått på 33 år i Thailand. Rummet är ok rent hårda sängar .
Bra Hotell men fel pris satt.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great
- Dennis (8/5): - Nice place to stay. The staff were very good at answering our questions and helping us with services.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great room aircon was hot and kept going off but was manageable overall great hotel
- Stefan (10/5): - Clean and convenient
- Andrew (8/5): Very nice hotel - Large room including a large bathroom with powerful shower. Little storage area and only one seat. Staff friendly and helpful. A small but decent swimming pool
- andrewg530 (8/5): Very Good value with Nice Rooms & Friendly Staff - I recently stayed here for 6 nights - A large well equipped room with breakfast for 800+ baht per night including breakfast represented excellent value for money. The hotel was fairly quiet as was the local area because on the effects of Covid on local trade & tourism. The staff at the Hotel were always smiling and took the time to say hello and ordered us a taxi very quickly on a couple of occasions. Breakfast was ok although a little sparse for western tastes but at the price no complaints. Good selection of channels on the TV & always hot water in the shower. No restaurant/bar/coffee shop currently open which was a shame. Would definetely stay here again and they have a nice swimming pool as well
- DarrenRawlins (8/5): A good value choice for Khon Kaen! - We stayed at the Mantra Varee for 1 night in May 2019 when visiting the Green Market. We did think that it would be within walking distance to the market but on advice of hotel staff we used a taxi for the short drive!
Following a swift check in with the very pleasant staff we were lead to our superior room. Having paid only £16 (with a small promo included) I was instantly surprised at how big it was! In fact every aspect of the room was better than I expected for the price. Stylish decor with a decent bed, shower and wifi. Small negatives would be not a fat lot of storage if staying for more than a couple of days and then there was the bed surround. Looked good but a bit faffy and meant you had to get out of bed twice, visit and you'll see what I mean!
On exploring the location of the hotel there's not a great deal in the close proximity. There is a 7-11 roughly 200 yards away and if you walk for 11 minutes you reach the neat little Fairy Mall. We had a mooch here and ate some really decent food in the court.
The hotel has a pool and gym, neither of which I got to use but I took a look. The pool was pleasant looking for a quick dip but not really big enough for lengths. The gym was what I would call a token gym ie. small and poorly equipped.
We did eat breakfast at the Mantra Varee and I would describe it as very so so. There is very limited choice on offer at the buffet. I had rice soup which was bland and unseasoned. There is a 'nespresso' style machine for coffee with buttons to select all manner of fancy coffees but whatever you press you end up with watery black coffee! I wouldn't choose breakfast as an option unless it was included!
On the whole, the Mantra Varee is a good budget choice with an ok location and friendly staff. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, very helpful staff. Very good breakfast.
We will stay again.
- Darran (8/5): Kiwi abroad - The hotel was ok, the furnishings were a little dated. The room was ok but again there was dated furnishings.
- Samantha (8/5): - We stayed here since there wasn’t many options in the city. It is dated, but the customer service was nice. Breakfast was good and the room was clean. The area is okay but still a ways from things. Good restaurants around.
- Man-on-Sunday (10/5): Great hotel with good staff - It is a good hotel in a good town. The room and services were excellent and beyond expected. The pool a bit tiny but my little baby enjoyed it. Breakfast was delicious and optional. I really like this hotel and would like to recommend. See you soon.
- SweetHomePhuket (8/5): Reasonable for what it has to offer. - Went to Mantra Varee just last weekend for 1 night. Big room, with huge bed, great bathroom, lcd cabletv, swimming pool, air-con, quiet, close to the lake.
The breakfast was also good and available til 10 AM. Thats great if you want to sleep a bit longer without missing the morning coffee.
The staff was super cute and helpful any time.
Overall, we can recommend this great place to anyone who wants to stay at a nice place with a pool for a reasonable price.
Only 1 negative is WIFI was not stable
- GeniusTra1981 (8/5): Better than expectation - Hotel is new and clean with good decoration. Room was spacious with comfortable bed. Pool was small but big enough for me and my little daughter. Breakfast was pretty good. Staff are so nice and helpful. If you plan to Khon Khan this hotel will not disappoint you.
- TS (8/5): Good hotel, not that far from shopping centres - Nice hotel, large room, hotel quite near shopping but need transport.. not quite walkable.
Very nice staff, well maintained hotel
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Place was okay . Big room , big bathroom, was nice enough. Good for the price
- nik4444 (10/5): Great value hotel - Stayed here after our holiday to Phuket as a stopover before returning home to Sichomphu. For 1000bt including breakfast this was a great choice.
Spacious room, good bathroom and air con! Wifi was stable and strong too.
Reception staff were efficient and speedy.
Breakfast was ample and varied.
Would stay again:)
Lots of eateries around the hotel, but we got a taxi to Tonn tam market and came back and had some drinks at Lannai bar restaurant.
Pool was large enough plus there was a limited gym as well.
Thank you :)
- 750panyac (8/5): Convenient and Flexible Services - I been stay with Mantra Varee for 1 night. Hotel overall is clean and nice. Room is big and bed is very comfort to sleep. I requested for early check-in and got a good feedback that they can provide me for a room.
There is a restaurant in front of hotel and hotel itself is convenient to travel out in the town by car.
Will be back soon....
- TMS (8/5): Nice quite location - Nice quiet location, but walkable to a few shops, two very good restaurants nearby.
Excellent staff
- Peter (8/5): Nice room, great value. - This place is well presented, clean and friendly with fast free wifi. Only a short taxi (or hotel shuttle bus - payable) to busy areas with bars etc. Good sized room with huge comfortable bed and nice, large shower cubicle.
Anyone complaining about this place for the price is living in cloud cuckoo land.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed for a week. Nice hotel overall, very helpful staff, most knows basic English. Room isn't in perfect condition, but very clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basil Fawlty comes to mind . :-) - Well the brochure says it has a restaurant and bar. Neither were available during my stay. We were advised to use the mini bar in our room which is an empty fridge. We were also given the number for a local takeaway restaurant to eat in our room if we wished. If you like to eat a Thai breakfast you'll be ok but if you want to eat the western food it is kept cold in unheated baine maries because apparently it will burn. I was advised to come to breakfast at 06:30 to eat warm food.
- peterbG6465GH (8/5): Clean and Comfortable - The hotel is situated some two miles west of the city centre and is without doubt one of the better hotels we have stayed at in Khon Kaen. It is spotlessly clean with friendly English speaking receptionists, and other staff must be highly trained as they are really guest friendly and attentive. We booked (via Agoda) a De Luxe room which was clean and comfortable with a jacuzzi type bathroom, something of a novelty in hotels nowadays. The hotel has a nice indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre, both free to guests. The restaurant, which has a varied menu of both Thai and Western food, was the only let down as it doubles as a karaoke room and the ear splitting noise, especially from a group of non resident diners with their out of tune singing, that you have to shout at your fellow diners in order to be heard. Breakfast was from the buffet with a wide choice of just about anything one wants although the coffee was somewhat bland in taste. All in all, with the exception of the karaoke, a very good hotel.
- stefhedl (8/5): Almost perfect - Nice hotel in a quiet and peaceful area of Khonkaen. Here they have a good service with friendly staff and it's clean and fresh. I miss scrambled egg with bacon at breakfast and it was little to much ants in the room. At booking.com it says that deluxe room have booth balcony and bathroom with bubble bath, but in real you have to choose between it. Over all it's a nice place and we enjoyed our stay here.
- nomadicnevs (8/5): Good but room for improvement. - We were very fortunate on arrival to be given an upgrade to the 'suite' which is possibly one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in. As this was the case we decided to stay 4 nights at the same rate as a standard room.
So here we go:
Pros
- staff were super friendly and helpful and of course gave us a free upgrade so no complaints. They had minimal English
- location was great, quiet area with heaps of cheap local eats nearby and 7/11
- looked to be lots of parking and good security
- x2 water, x2 cans soft drink, x2 chips, x2 beers, biscuits free daily as minibar
- rate including brekki but see below
Cons:
- WiFi is not very good at all. Keeps dropping out if going at all
- swimming pool although we saw it being cleaned looked slimy and no privacy at all so didn't even use it
- gym equipment broken and also no privacy as right beside entrance.
Would stay again as we thought the rate was good and location we enjoyed and a huge thanks for our upgrade.
- Z4470IMmichaelb (6/5): Acceptiable - Mantra varee is a good hotel with excellent service and a reasonable breakfast and restaurant the hotel is far away from khon kean centre so u need to use taxi or hotel transport to go out rooms clean and tidy
- christopher (2/5): A Disapointment - Breakfast was the worst i have ever received in any hotel i have stayed in Thailand. The pool was closed for 6 days, for cleaning[I Think Not ]. The TV in the room was mainly in Thai, and the few English channels kept dropping out.Would not recommend this hotel.
- W6930EXchrisl (10/5): Good room, quite area comfortable bed - Mantra Varee Hotel is good value not in the noisy section of town ,clean and good size room. The bed was the best I have slept on in Thailand!! Staff are helpful and the pool is great on hot days.Breakfast was good.Have stayed here on a number of occasions.
- martin (10/5): Happy - Had a really nice stay . Breakfast was nice . Staff amazing .. I will return
- wzahk (6/5): Clean and comfortable - I arrived at this hotel late on a Sunday night for work, departed early the next morning, so I wasn't able to check out much more than the room.
The room was clean, and the showers were strong and hot. The day I was there was one of the coldest in Thailand, it was 9C that evening, so hot water shower was good. Surprisingly, this was the first hotel room I stayed in that had tile floors. The cold weather seemed more freezing when it's a tile floor, but I can appreciate the cooling effect it has during hot summer days. I did not get a photo of the room, but it had blue LED lighting around the headboard of the bed; it made the room have a motel kind of feel.
Wifi was good, there were even power sockets right next to the bed which was useful
I walked past its gym and pool, and it looked ok. There isn't much around the hotel; the nearest convenience store is 15 mins walk away. If visiting Khon Kaen, this is a good hotel for a quick stopover.
- Buddhatraveller (8/5): We enjoyed it! - We had a good three nights at Mantra Varee. Good sevice, polite and hard working staff. The only down side was that we could hear everything from the next room, so soundproofing could be a good idea.
The swimming pool is in the shade all day this time of year, but who wants to lay in the sun in +30 to + 36 degrees celcius?? The pool was cleaned while we were there and the water was refreshing.
The breakfast was amazing with everything to offer. But yes as someone had written you should go early if you want "the good stuff". No ants or other creatures were seen on the scene.
Good walk to Fairy plaza! Take a left from the hotel entrance and a right from the next intersection and walk straight. Should take under ten minutes and has a good sidewalk. If you take a left from the intersection and walk about 2min there's a little store to buy water or other refreshments. Taking the same direction a bit further you'll find a nice garden setting restaurant with cozy lighting. The service was really good as was the food. It's close to Fun D hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Hotel very quiet close to Fairy Plaza - Had a great time staff were excellent Pool was great very cold water to balance the days heat
- D&D (8/5): Several Nights in Khon Kaen - My husband and I stayed here while we were in town for a conference. The hotel staff were very nice however many of them did not speak English very well so be prepared for that. Everyone was happy and helpful. Really have no major complaints. The staff cleaned the room daily and all surfaces you would normally touch were clean (counters, floors, sheets, towels, etc) however the walls could use a wipe down and maybe some fresh paint - especially in the bathroom. The rooms are a little dated but like I said clean in the important places! The pool was nice but quite cold. It really doesn't get much sun. The breakfast buffet was passable (some days were better than others) but much more expensive than what you would pay outside of the hotel.Restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and nice. It was good value for the money paid.
- Kevin (8/5): Quiet location - A comfortable mid-price hotel with good evening entertainment in the restaurant. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. However the small gym has poorly maintained equipment and the swimming pool is inadequately cleaned. For the price it is adequate for a short stay.
- zinegilou (8/5): An excellent one night stop - large, clean, comfortable room. good breakfast if you are not too demanding about the coffee
better with your own vehicle, a bit uneasy to find. obviously and logically oriented towards thai customers
quick check-in and out, solid choice for the pit stop :O)
- Vorasuang_Michael (8/5): New condition, polite staff - Stayed 2 nights on business on Sep 02-03, 2015 on 4th floor. The hotel is still relatively new (3 years in operation). My room was okay, large and comfort. The queen size single bed is large and comfortable. Bathroom has a rain shower and a normal hose, which I like.
Don't expect any view outside the window, you will be disappointed.
Breakfast was average.
Internet WiFi was good.
I'd recommend this hotel for business stay but would be good if you have own transportation.
- Atitayaporn (8/5): Good Service & Stay - We stayed for 2 nights in mid April, it was very nice budget hotel, good service from friendly staffs, relaxing from comfortable room accommodation & pool.
Parking area should to improve, lots of space for parking, but no roof.
This hotel is one of recommend to stay in Khon Kaen. Keep it up!
- 981StuM (8/5): Really Great Stay - Stayed for 4 nights in early July, and it was exactly as I expected. Had read many prior reviews, and they were mostly accurate. Location is the low point if you want to be in the middle of the action, but it's also an advantage if you want something quiet. Place was very clean--everything attended to. Pool looked good, but did not try it. It only gets full sun for part of the day. Staff was very good, and I had no language barrier issues. A/C didn't work very well in my room, but when the staff was notified, they offered to change my room, but I elected to have them bring me a small fan which worked out perfectly. Food at breakfast was quite good--the usual breakfast buffet line up, plus some tasty other dishes, and an omelet station as well. Traffic in Khon Kaen is horrendous, so give yourself extra time getting around. Some small shops, bars, and a couple temples within walking distance, but the main entertainment area is a cab ride away. I would definitely stay here again.
- Durian1982 (8/5): First time stay in this hotel and definitely not the last time - Location, not that great in my opinion. Food choices not that many within walking distance. Hotel is well maintain. Rooms are the same, not the most luxurious but is comfortable. The rooms could do better with a bit more lighting. The pool is small as expected in a city/business hotel. Have no complaints. Room service menu tasted delicious.
However, i have to say, the service is 1st class. Smiles & wishes everywhere from the front desk to restaurant to anybody u meet. Good job to the staff of Mantra Varee. Will 100%recommend to fellow travellers to stay at this gem. Keep it up!
- EnglandGlobetrotters (10/5): An exceptional hotel - We've just had 5 nights at this hotel and couldn't fault it. It was clean, comfortable, well equipped (having a kettle makes all the difference!) with a good breakfast and a good location. The staff were helpful and very friendly, even with some limited English speakers. I suppose my only disappointment was that the pool was always in the shade, so too cold for me! But my husband had three swims so perhas I'm just a wimp! I would really recommend a massage at the wat by the lake, it was excellent. The only other thing to mention is the barking dogs in the morning, but that can happen anwhere.
