Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were here in October 2017. Hotel was nice, had a shared kitchen that we didn't use. Can walk to a few restaurants nearby. There was a hot tub that was shared as well. We only stayed one night so we didn't try it out. It was a little difficult to find the place, and once we did we weren't sure about the parking situation. But we figured it out. The place was nice and clean. Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very friendly. Very warm house. - Very friendly. Very warm house.
Hot tub in yard
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel was haunted. Lots of nose at night. Wind howling through the cracks in the window. Machine in common area making noise all night. Didn't sleep well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great experience at this place with cleaning facilities and convenient full kitchen access. Love it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice guesthouse walking distance to downtown - Really enjoyed our stay. Parking out front, wonderful front desk staff, large room with tv and balcony. Great value and super clean.
- Anthony (10/5): Guesthouse Garun best value stopover - Considering value for money Guesthouse Garun was the best place we stayed in Iceland and we stayed in 2 other guesthouses and 2 hotels. Facilities and comfort were excellent.
- Imseon (10/5): - tout a été parfait. l’accueil chaleureux
l'emplacement, plusieurs salle de bain propre.
- Halldor (8/5): - Good and nice guesthouse. Just next to the ring road, in an quiet street. The hot tub outside in the evening was really nice. The room was clean and comfortable.

- Andrew (10/5): - Amazing place for a stay in the south of Iceland. Spotlessly clean and lovely staff. Would recommend for a stay.
- Vikram (10/5): Hands down, Best place we stayed in Iceland!! - We first went to the other guesthouse but then the owner was kind enough to personally come pick us up. Then we were checked into our room which was nice & spacious. The bathroom were shared but were in immaculate condition. It rather felt like home than a hotel. The host is super awesome. She even did the laundry for us & when I went to pay, she said it was on the house. The guesthouse offers a fully equipped kitchen. This place combines a hotel & AirBnB. The host go above & beyond to make you feel comfortable. We stayed in quite a few places in Iceland but this is the best of all. Highly recommended!
- Sonja (10/5): super Unterkunft - mit Whirlpool! - Die Unterkunft hat uns sehr gut gefallen, sehr angenehm war, dass es morgens kostenlos Kaffee und Tee gab!
- Elsa (10/5): Clean and friendly guesthouse - 設備新,房間夠大可將兩個大行李箱攤開,還能方便行走。環境乾淨且安靜,還有設備齊全的廚房供房客使用.。櫃臺人員也非常友善。
- Juan Carlos (10/5): Muy buen hotel. - Excelente lugar y bastante buena ubicación para visitar el triángulo sur de Islandia
- NANCY (8/5): Good location, nice room - Very nice staff. The room is big clean. beds are comfortable.
They have a kitchen down stair that you can use and store food tin the fridge
I wish they have more place to hang clothes/ jacket. We are there November so we have more layers
The bathroom need to have some hooks for hanging towel...
Overall it is a very good room
- Verified traveler (10/5): A MUST STAY!! - Room was big for 2 people, and great for the price you pay. The receptionist (forgot her name) was super nice, attentive, and helpful with any questions. Would definitely stay again should I come to Iceland later.
- Kenneth (10/5): Perfect Stay - Excellent property. Clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms. Excellent service from the owner as well as staff. Wonderful hot tub to enjoy in the evening. Very central location in Selfoss and Selfoss is very central to visit destinations in Southwest Iceland. Highly recommended.
- Jenny (8/5): Comfy stay - Spacious, comfortable, clean and no frills.
- Marilyn (10/5): Fantastic spot - A fantastic place to stay. The staff go out of their way to accommodate you. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodations are spotless and very well maintained. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
- Joanna (8/5): Would recommend - Nice, clean, well furnished, large rooms. Shared bathroom was also to high standard and good provision of kitchen facilities.
- winifryde (10/5): Guesthouse Garun - The guesthouse was clean, comfortable and in a local neighborhood in Selfoss. There was a kitchen you could use to cook your meals, store your produce, beverages. Sigrid was most welcoming as a host and gave us a thorough tour of the property. Wifi was very fast and tv had had all kinds of international stations. The beds were very comfortable. The guesthouse is great value as the hotels will charge you twice as much for an over night!
- Bonnie (8/5): nice hotel in town - Very nice hotel. there is no elecator which I did not notice on website. no one there to carry our bags
- Austin (10/5): - Charming yet modern guesthouse. Hats off to the owner, who was super friendly and really went out of his way to make you feel at home.
- pazit (8/5): good guesthouse - a very good guesthouse. Modern place. Very big rooms & a well equipped kitchen. great location in Selfoss.
we arrived late at night at the check-in was perfect (fast & friendly).
I had some problem with the shower cleanliness. We arrived late and one of the showers was dirty. I also didn't like the nylon curtain. The next day I found out that the shower in the first floor is great!!
- BCgirl (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable room. We were very pleased with the stay. Will recommend to people who are going to Iceland.
- Jenna (10/5): - Lovely place, so glad we chose to stay here. The owner was welcoming and really helpful. Very comfortable.
- Anthony (10/5): Great value and spacious room. - Great spacious room with a sink. Spotlessly clean. Well organised and clean kitchen. Very friendly and well located. Would return again and recommend this place as well xtremely good value for Iceland.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A hidden gem - Lovely guesthouse with very nice clean private rooms and shared bathrooms. Upon first arrival, the lady at the front desk took us on a short tour of the building, pointing out the many amenities like the hot tub, kitchen, greenhouse patio, laundry area etc. So friendly and welcoming. This was one of the best accommodations we stayed in the whole time we were in Iceland. I absolutely recommend!
- Natalie (10/5): A gem of a guesthouse - Guesthouse Garun was very nice. It was bright, modern and clean. It had a hot tub (that we opted not to use in the cold rain) and a picturesque greenhouse perfect for morning coffee. The kitchen area allowed for cooking and storing cold foods in a fridge labeled with your room number.
- Mary (8/5): Good stop over - The guest house was new, quiet, and friendly. Easy walking to restaurants and supermarkets. Shared w/can and showers nice, accessible and available. Coffee only made in the AM although a pot and makings available to make your own. Kitchen area was well equipped. Very nice place.
- Susan (10/5): Friendly guesthouse - Very nice guesthouse. The owner greeted us herself and was super helpful. The room was large and well appointed, very modern. There was a hot tub and a lovely outdoor glass house for guests to use. Very friendly place.
- Tim (10/5): - Clean and spacious bedroom (at least the one I had) and well-equipped kitchen. Good value with several grocery options nearby. The hot tub is a nice bonus if like me you weren't able to make it to one of the thermal baths. There is a city pool at the end of the street that I didn't have a chance to visit but hear its quite nice.
- Leo (10/5): Great - Very and friendly host
- Angeline (8/5): Good stop - A rest stop after the golden circle for the day and moving on to Vik. Nice & spacious room. Friendly staff too
- VIPUL (10/5): Highly recommend - Even the late check-in was a smooth process. We got to experience the hot tub at 9:45 PM. The kitchen is furnished with all the necessary supplies. The bedroom was perfect and shared bathroom was also very clean. Overall excellent experience and I felt like being at home. A grocery shop (Bonus) is a 3mins drive, and you can find good hike around Hveragerdi hot spring.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Guesthouse was very clean and sufficient to meet our needs. A sink in the room was a nice bonus. We didn't have any issues with the place. Overall, it was a good stay.
- alena (10/5): pleasant stay - Pleasure to stay, the kitchen enabled us to cook food to our taste, very enjoyable
- Verified traveler (10/5): Totally recommended! - Very nice guesthouse that exceeded our expectation!
Owner is very friendly, the place is super ultra clean with a fully equipped kitchen that guest can use. You can even use the outdoor jacuzzi! 5 mins drive to supermarket. We will definitely be back if we visit Selfoss again!
- Adrienne (10/5): - Adorable guesthouse near shopping and restaurants. The woman at the desk was very helpful and friendly. The room was a good size with nice windows and there is a hottub outside to use. I would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good - Nice stay.friendly staff. Clean room. Highly recommended
- Mei Sim (8/5): - The place and the host were nice. We liked it. It would be perfect if the place would provide shampoo, body wash & hair dryer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Reasonably priced, quite nice hotel. - Everything was fine. The room was clean, there were good facilities to prepare food. The room was of a good size and the bathroom was good. The only thing was a lack of soap and shampoo in the shower. It's kind of an odd omission. Otherwise, it's a pretty solid place to stay :)
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Very friendly, helpful staff and very clean.
- Hy (8/5): Not bad but I would choose another - Took owner a little longer than promised to arrive.
The booking wasn't exactly clear (most other accommodations will indicate on room type / name) that it is a shared bathroom and cleanliness of it was acceptable.
Kitchen that allows guests to cook but food was stolen by some guests (happened to others too).
No one at reception and you have to call to get attention from the owner.
- Gwenana (10/5): Lovely stay with hot tub! - We had a really lovely stay here on our first night in Iceland. The guesthouse is clean, spacious and has a good number of showers and bathrooms available. To top it off, they also had a hot tub - the only guesthouse we came across with this facility and we stayed in 5 different guesthouses. Similarly they had a tv in the room, which we did not have the luxury of for any of our other stays.
The guesthouse is well managed and there is a communal kitchen and dining area where you're able keep any food in baskets to separate from other guests. They also leave hairdryers on the front desk overnight in case you forgot to ask for one. The beds were super comfortable too! Overall, would highly recommend - just a shame we only stayed here for one night!
- Ian (10/5): - Room was clean and facilities were awesome! Kitchen available to those who want to use it. Room temp was a bit too cool, but not unbearable. Looked like radiator wasnt working as normal. Overall great stay and couple blocks from restaurants and grocery store.
- Xave Edison (8/5): Worth the price! - Wasn't expecting much as the pictures online are not as appealing compared to other accommodations in Iceland.
However, to our surprise, the property is quite well-maintained and the room is spacious and clean. The only drawback is that the bathroom is a bit small and no shampoo and shower gel are provided. However, as the property is situated in close proximity to the town, grocery shopping and dining are not an issue.
The staffs are very friendly in welcoming us. Easy check-in and out.
- King Yuen (8/5): Good location with kitchen - It was in a centralized location with kitchen. We didn't dine out in the area because Iceland dinning is usually expensive. So having a kitchen at where we stayed was great. You can get to most of the supermarket in 5 minute of driving. The bed was too soft for our taste but it was alright. Our only complaint was the washroom was small.
- Celina (10/5): Incredible stay on Ring Road road trip - Close to all amenities (restaurants, grocery store), staff was great at giving out info, showing all the guesthouse amenities. The shared bathrooms were plentiful (on 3rd floor, there were 2 showers and two toilets (separate)) and very clean. Room was very spacious and comfortable with blackout blinds and in room sink. Hot tub and outdoor patio were amazing! Such a pleasant stay, created such a high bar for the rest of our Ring road trip!
- Etienne (10/5): - Really nice, conforting place with nice staff.
The access to the clean kitchen is a plus, also you can meet other travelers.
- LI (10/5): Great rooms with convenient in-room sink - Large spacious rooms, with a sink and mirror in the room, making it very convenient to beat the morning rush for the washroom. The kitchen on the first floor was very spacious and well stocked. The location was a bit harder to find, and parking might be a bit difficult, but the stay was definitely enjoyable.
- klyuen (8/5): - We arrived late and we were greeted by their hearty staff immediately. The place is spotless. Even the shared bathroom is super clean and tidy.
- Annette (10/5): Clean And fresh - This was a well kept hotel with clean rooms kitted out with new wooden cupboards and an ensuite. The bed was comfortable and fresh. We had a bony but we didn't use it as the weather was stormy. Wifi was good. There was a fully fitted kitchen for use by the guests and coffee provided in the morning. It wood have been nice to have had the opportunity of breakfast however the local shop was a few minutes walk away. There was also a hot tub but we didn't have a dip.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very welcoming staff. Nice kitchen available to cook your own meal and even a hot tub!!
- Melanie (10/5): Perfect guesthouse/ hotel with hot pot. - Lovely owner and guesthouse overall. There was a hot pot outside that we had all to ourselves in the afternoon, and the kitchen was clean and very well equipped. The location is prefect for wandering down town to the services and restaurants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice place in Sellfoss - We stayed here one night. Nice clean place with friendly staff. Price was right. We got to see the Aurora Borealis for the first time.
- Tsipi (10/5): A place to sleep with sheared kitchen and nice stu - It was a nice comfortable room to pass the night. Sheared equipped kitchen, where guests can prepare a meal if they want to. The stuff is very friendly and nice.
- Jason (8/5): Would stay again - Friendly staff and nice location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): good base - nice touring of the south of iceland
- Peter (10/5): A Great Guesthouse. - The guesthouse is an ideal overnight location for visiting south coast. It is just off Ring Road in Selfoss and supermarkets are nearby.
Our room on the second floor is comfortable, spacious and clean. Kitchen facilities and outdoor hot tub are available for use.
Very friendly staff at reception.
Garun Guesthouse offers great value for your money. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasantly surprised! - We picked this guesthouse randomly and were very pleased that we did. It was way more than we expected!
It is on a residential street that you could walk to a grocery store but most likely most would have a vehicle. There was parking on the property as well as a hot tub which was great.
We went to the store and purchased food to cook which was great to have a meal cooked at home rather than another restaurant. We also purchased food for breakfast, even though we could have ordered a breakfast and it would have been set up waiting for us in the morning.
The room was clean and modern and the only thing missing was a long mirror and we could have used a fan as it was quite warm when we were there. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
- Kumako (10/5): Great price and owner is so nice - We came here after a busy day travelling around the golden circle. This apartment located in a quiet community. The owner is very nice. They have a hot tub and you can order breakfast
- Rosemary (10/5): Good value; highly recommended - We travelled the ring road clockwise and stayed in Selfoss before doing the 'Golden Circle' and then into Reykjavik. Selfoss was a convenient spot with lots of amenities. I would highly recommend Guesthouse Garun. It was impeccably clean, very comfortable, the room was a generous size and had a sink. It is a good size and very modern. There is a hot tub on site if you wish to use it, and the Guesthouse was in walking distance to a nice cafe for dinner (Kafe Krus). There is a kitchen area for guest use and they provide coffee in the morning. One tip: if light bothers you while sleeping, you may want to request a room with full blinds...our room had a lovely skylight, but that meant we couldn't darken the room to sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great little place! Recently renovated and clean! - The staff was wonderful and the patio with hot tub were great. The kitchen is well organized and equipped for use.
- Joan (10/5): - Fantastic quiet location! Staff was warm and friendly. Room was super clean and beds were comfortable.
- Sonna (10/5): Cozy comfortable and clean. - Really lovely stay. The host stayed up to greet me despite the late hour to show me around. Impeccably clean, cozy and comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the spa, which was an unexpected luxury. Fresh brewed coffee in the morning was another unexpected luxury. The thoughtfulness shown to make guests feel welcome was very much appreciated. Not sure what the other rooms/rates were at this location on that date, but as a solo traveller I found it excellent value.
- Rajagopal (10/5): Great little hotel in Selfoss. - Great little spot to stay in Selfoss. Very clean rooms and awesome service. The front desk was extremely helpful. They also have an outdoor hot tub which is open till 11pm, comes in handy after a long day's hike. Great spot to stop before you head onto the golden circle tour.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient to the golden circle - Good location and the guesthouse was ok. Lacked some simple things like enough pillows, adequate trash cans and adequate channels on the TV. Overall ok. The town of Selfoss was disappointing and had to go elsewhere for a decent restaurant.
- Arie ,S (8/5): Excellent value for money. - near main road . helpful staff. Clean and worthy .
- Chris (10/5): Nice little place, great shared kitchen - Nice little place, has 4 guest rooms on the top floor. They are tiny and the roof is slanted, but the common area is nice with TV and couch, bathroom is good, everything is clean and the shared kitchen downstairs is fully equipped (fridge, stove, dishes, pots and pans, utensils, just like home). Free coffee in the morning. Free parking in front of Hotel. Check in by 11pm. Nice quiet residential neighborhood about 100 meters/yards off the main road. Hot tub available in the evening. Dominos and subway nearby for quick food. Of all the 6 places we stayed at in Iceland that were around $100/night, this was our favorite.
- Philagr (8/5): Nice quiet place - There was only 1 other couple with us the night we stayed there so it was quiet and relaxing.
It felt really good after a big day of hiking.
The room was big enough and really clean. So were all the other «public» areas of the guesthouse.
It said on expedia that there was a free breakfast but they don't do it at winter time.
One of the reason we booked that place was for the price and the breakfast since we were tired of our peanut butter sandwich so we were a little disappointed.
