Guest Reviews
- Pamela (10/5): - The lodge is amazing. My son used the pool, we hiked, at in the dining room, great king bed.
Great trip!
- Harlan (10/5): - We had never been before, so it was a nice experience. Really enjoyed our three meals in the main dining room.
- Susan (10/5): - Food was great. Service was wonderful. Bathroom in rooms at the Lodge very small. Otherwise room cleanliness was good. They could use less abrasive towels
- Susanne (10/5): - Everything was wonderful. Very clean. The property is beautiful and the trails are located right outside of the lodge. The restaurant was very good. We ate breakfast in the main dining and dinner at the back door grill. We will be back!
- Joseph (6/5): - Was serene....
- Terri (6/5): Great service. Room tiny. - The service and food were exceptionally good. For those reasons I would return.
The room was tiny and the bathroom was way too small.
There was a coffee maker but no supplies to make a cup of coffee. No amenities in the room at all and the room was very outdated.
- DANIEL (10/5): Great Time - Stay was wonderful. Very helpful staff. Everythin8g clean and well maintained.. A varity of things to do !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful!! Get a great sense of nature. Lots of activities. Great location in case of emergency snacks & such
- Kellyrae (10/5): Very nice - We loved our stay. Beautiful area. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved everything about it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly, beautiful park.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Over the course of my 2-night stay, I killed 3 mysterious black bugs in my room. There was no towel rack. The bathroom was so small that anyone taller or heavier than I am would not fit! I had to put the coffee maker on the floor in order to reach an outlet. I ate at all 3 restaurants: Each was mediocre at best. This location is, of course, perfect for accessing hiking, & the history is meaningful; however, they are charging for a nice hotel when this should be billed as a motel.
- Katherine (10/5): - It was great to stay in the middle of Starved Rock. It made hiking really easy. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The on site restaurant was pretty good, but the little cafe had great coffee and cookies!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Check in was quick. The restaurant was well managed with good quality meals. The live band was fun. Beds were clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very enjoyable stay. Will return again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely time.
- Peter (10/5): Everyone at the lodge is super friendly. - Great place to stay and hike this beautiful park. The rooms were nice and clean, beds were comfortable. Everyone at the lodge is super friendly and helpful in answering any of your questions. I will definitely come back to explore the remaining canyons we have yet to see.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was great. Neat restaurant and bar attached.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to get away
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staying in the park was convenient and nice. There is a lot of ambiance with old part of the lodge. The room as pretty small and basic (we were on the original side), no fridge, or coffee, very small bathroom...but all functional for our stay. The restaurant was good, breakfast was very good and dinner was ok.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic - This is our second time staying at the lodge during COVID-19 and we have felt extremely safe.
We love the lodge and can’t wait until we return!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Every thing was very nice every thing was clean and tidy
- John (8/5): In the Heart of Nature - All in all the property is perfectly placed due to the hiking trails that surround it. My Wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and our dinner was disappointing. All the GM of the Lodge compensated us, the overall feeling was unsatisfactory. The incredible weather and the scenery made up for the meal.
- Nancy (6/5): Very nonhandicap accessible - Was difficult because my husband in a wheelchair and pavement on much of hotel floor is rocky and uneven. I had an extremely difficult time getting him in tge front door in the wheelchair and no employee came to my aide. Adult swim is stated from 8 to 9 a.m. Children were running around the pool and yelling and swimming in my lane. I had to leave. Mentioned to kady at front desk who told me rule not enforced!!! Also, hot tub is broken. Looking at my bank statement I was double charged for a dinner at the hotel dining. I have to deal with that yet.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This property is out dated and the room was very small for the cost. Their restaurant was booked up for reservations early in the evening and nothing was mentioned about needing a reservation so we had to leave the property for dinner. And the internet is impossible to get and the wifi is overloaded so we were kicked off of it also.
- Carol (10/5): Starved Rock stay - Very nice stay at a lovely location. Starved Rock is always a treat to visit!
- LongFamily (10/5): - Excellent amenities and lots to do for all families. A great place to spend time during COVID-19!
- Patricia (10/5): - The view was amazing!!!!! There was no mini fridge 😕 and the beds are super hard. After a long day of hiking,I wanted a really soft cozy bed. I woke up with a backache.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The mattress is very old and sagging. Can't fell into sleep.
- Melanoe (6/5): - The Lodge was interesting, grounds were beautiful, and dining was great. Food very good, service was excellent. The room was dark and dreary. Outlets did not work, air con was noisy, and bathroom was dingy. We did not get housekeeping services. I understand with the pandemic not wanting to clean every day but it would be nice to have a replenishment of towels and sanitary items provided at the door. The website advertised breakfast was included each day, however we were provided with a $15 voucher for each day of the stay. This did not cover the breakfast bill. It is over priced for how outdated the rooms and bathrooms are. I'm starting to feel maybe guests who book through Expedia are given lesser quality rooms by the hotel establishments.
- Jo (10/5): - I loved the exclusive parking. Loved the dining room, restaurant, veranda, and overall space. It was beautiful. Hope to come back soon
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fourth of July Weekend - Room was very clean when we checked in. We were surprised that our room was not cleaned up on the second day of our stay by 4:20pm. We learned after inquiring from the front desk, that there was no housekeeping allowed in our room due to the Covid virus. We were not told anything about that at check in. We worked it out with the housekeeper ourselves.
- Sheila (10/5): - Easy check in process- all staff courteous and helpful
- Paul (10/5): - Classic Lodge resort great for hikers. Stayed in a lodge room, and the common review compliant of thin walls might be the only issue. The restaurant is quite good, especially with the lodge and fireplace atmosphere. The casual bar is also cool and has an outdoor patio with a view during better weather. The great hall is a cool place to hang out in and I thought it was neat to see a family bring their kids out in pajamas to read them a story in front of the big fireplace before bedtime.
But the real attraction here is the hiking. I went during peak leaf season and a frosting of snow had fallen overnight, making an early morning hike quite magical. Especially since staying in the lodge or cabins makes it easy to be the first and only one out in the Park.
- Dorothy (10/5): Great historic lodge - Remember this is a lodge, not a motel so no mini frig or microwave. But bring yiur DVDs. For the extra $15 the hotel rooms are worth the added space.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is obviously older, so expecting the amenities if a new hotel seems a bit overboard. We stayed in the lodge side and it was great to be so close to the trails. The noises do seem to carry as you sit in your room, but not enough to keep you up at night. I was worried that the bathroom would be lacking, but the water was instantly hot and the shower was larger than expected.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully hand crafted furniture throughout the lodge and especially in our room
- Carlos (8/5): - All they need to do is replace their mattresses. Awful sleep. Otherwise, will still go back!
- David (8/5): Good but no longer great! - Love this State Park lodge but it is starting to show its age. Our toilet needed to be plunged and the sheets were so old they no longer fit the mattress. The bar and restaurant continue to be excellent. I’d prefer to pay a little more to resolve the maintenance issues.
- shamiram (6/5): Couldn’t relax - The walls are wood and sound penetrates. I couthear the conversation next room. Second night people were up early and getting ready to check out. I woke up at 6 to their banging and talking. I told the receptionist she said I should have called and complained.
- Alberto (10/5): Great getaway for hiking, and comfortable stay! - Just a day of hiking, and the lodge was clean and comfortable as always. Everything a little rustic, in a nice way. Love coming here every year!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a wonderful place to hike and see amazing canyons. I loved the art work around the lodge. Nice restaurant and the location is close to other towns with excellent restaurants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved being able to walk out the door and be on a brilliant hike. I also found the staff to be wonderfully helpful and informative.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nn complaints. The sandwiches in the snack bar could have been a litle more substantial
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very quaint and rustic facility , staff very friendly
- Elizabeth (8/5): Slow service but good food. - Waited a long time for check at dinner on veranda and the next day waited a long time in dining room for service, to order, get food and had to ask another waitress for check after my whole family got tired of waiting, so slow service all around. Food was good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place to stay. Convenient to hiking trails. All inclusive with restaurants, bar, ice cream, fudge, souvenir shops and tour trolley. Must try the fudge!!!
- Marcella (8/5): - The pool and hot-tub area was wonderful. Our room was charming and well supplied. The landscaping and even the labeling of the plants was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful staff. We weren't aware that there was availability of licensed massage therapists there. I probably would have booked an hour had I known. Just a beautiful and relaxing place, very well cared for and obviously cherished by whoever owns and manages it.
- Edward (8/5): Anniversary get away - Weather was great. Enjoyed an evening river cruise and two great meals. Room small but clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property was beautiful and outdoors environment.
