Guest Reviews
- Brian (9/5): Great location - We loved our stay in Atika, Mohammed was friendly and very helpful. If you are a couple, I would recommend to stay in a triple room for extra space. The double room is small for 2 people and luggage.
Tres bien
Personnel tres tres bien
- Ian (10/5): Would definitely recommend - had a great time here. - Very stylish property, lovely staff, gorgeous rooftop with jacuzzi - Nothing
- NUNO (10/5): -
- Amin (10/5): Amazing place with a very kind house keeper - The property was amazing. The house keeper Mohammad was a very sweet older man who made sure we enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place Nothing - it was all great
- Rosson (10/5): - Fabulous location on the edge of the Medina, near the palace and the main square. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Genuine riad experience and very comfortable with a lovely rooftop oasis. Make sure you accept an offer to have dinner on the rooftop at the riad... Best tangine we have ever tasted! All was fabulous.
- Emanuela (9/5): - Colazione ottima Dover saldare per contanti tutti i servizi offerti
- Alfie (9/5): - Really lovely stay with friendly staff and in a great location
- Eleonora (10/5): Ambiente tipico e incantevole - Personale gentilissimo e sempre accogliente e disponibile.
Personnel extraordinaire
Le proprio Jamel est très serviable Rien
- Maria Teresa (10/5): Da consigliare! - Riad in centro.
- kathleen (10/5): - Super friendly host. Great breakfast.
- Shamira (10/5): -
- Davide (10/5): Se vieni a Marrakech ti consiglio Riad Attika - Ottima colazione e cena e Riad molto pulito. Jamal e Mohamed sono stati molto carini e disponibili. Ci siamo sentiti a casa.

Excellent breakfast and dinner, and the Riad was very clean. Jamal and Mohamed were very kind and helpful. We felt at home. The Riad is very close to the square where excursions depart (Place des Flerbantiers) and to Marrakech's main square (Place Jemaa el-Fna). They offer a transfer service to and from the airport (fairly priced). Recommended. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Helen (9/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): Tiptop - Alles da, was man braucht.
- Klara (10/5): -
- Susie (10/5): The best!! What a special place and an insight into life in Morocco. - This is a lovely riad in an amazing location where you can explore everything in the medina with ease.
The bed is comfortable and there’s a lovely little courtyard to eat breakfast in and sofas to relax. We saw the fireworks on New Year’s Eve from the roof terrace and enjoyed mint tea in the courtyard.
This place is made extra special by the housekeeper Mohammed who makes the stay amazing. He is so friendly and it feels like arriving home when you are greeted by him. He makes a lovely breakfast and you eat in the courtyard with little birds who come to visit.
Jamal the owner arranged a tour for us to the Sahara desert which was excellent. Mohammed gave us an extra large breakfast and helped us with some snacks for the journey and when we returned to pick up our larger bag he offered us tea after a long journey.
We would 100% go back! The staff really go above and beyond to make sure it’s a wonderful time in Marrakech.
- Ryo (8/5): - The staff is very kind and friendly.
He made us nice egg plates for breakfast!
Thank you! The room is a little dark.
- alex-hosking (9/5): Great location and friendly - Very nice place to stay with very friendly staff. Good location. Very cozy with nicely decorated rooms.
- Jasmin (10/5): -
- Melanie (10/5): -
- EILEEN (9/5): Friendly welcome in very central location with grnerous breakfast and lovely staff - Lovely traditional Riad, good location, great breakfast and the waiters service was exceptional The room was smaller than expected but ok as out most of the time exploring
- French (10/5): - Thanks to Muhammed (who likes great music!) And thanks to the guys for helping us out. Staff = 100!!!!!!
- Gonzalo (2/5): - They forgot to mention that they have construction next door. Banging noise all morning not great when you want to sleep in.
- Mellory (10/5): - Beautiful property, attentive staff. Luxiurious room with great bed. A true oasis from the frenetic strrets of Marrakesh.
- Stephanie (5/5): Uncomfortable stay! - The photos does not show what the reality of the Riad is. I don’t know what app they used but obviously it was not what I expected. The AC was not functioning well enough for the heat, the rooms were outdated and the beds were not comfortable.
- gillianb750 (2/5): Holiday from hell - I stayed at Riad Dar Attika in Marrakech and there are many negative online reviews warning that the owner is a scammer (they are not exaggerated), I booked through a package and discovered just how accurate those warnings were. What followed felt more like a punishment than a holiday.
I paid for a luxury suite with private amenities, I disputed the tiny dark room with no window on arrival and I was told every room was the same and no such facilities exist. I eventually managed to swap rooms. The room was the same, except it wasn’t in the dining room and had a window. The photos and description are pure misrepresentation.
I paid the city tax in cash at check‑in (no receipt was offered). Several days later the owner claimed I hadn’t paid. After a heated discussion where I was called a liar and I had removed myself from the owners presence. A man appeared at my room claiming to be a rep, intimidation tactics were used by saying owner had a video of me not paying and police will be called. I stood firm and refused to pay twice.
The owner contacted Love Holidays with fabricated lies about my conduct to discredit me and increase the pressure.
As a woman travelling alone with my young son, this orchestrated intimidation was disgusting and clearly aimed at making us feel vulnerable enough to hand over more money.
The stress and poor conditions drove me to book a night at another hotel (Labranda Targa) for a break. The tax dispute flared up only after I returned.
After being dropped by a taxi close to the Riad, where men were waiting to scam, by quickly taking ur case and escorted you to your hotel. As it’s up alley ways, cars cannot take you there directly. It felt very unsafe and scary, especially for a woman and her young son. This man demanded the equivalent of 50 pounds for this 2 min walk. After I complained, the money was suddenly returned and the owner phoned urging me to trust only him—then started pushing overpriced excursions the very next day.
The owner pushed excursions relentlessly. One day‑trip was quoted at €230, a tour I later found online for €20–€30—nearly ten times the real cost. This happened for another 2 trips plus on overpriced taxi fare of 50 euros which he instructed I pay to him. Every opportunity was turned into a way for the Riad owner to line his pocket.
When I refused to pay the city tax twice, staff insisted there was video evidence (never shown) and called me a liar.
A staff member sat at our table uninvited, which I found uncomfortable and over familiar and made comments (“Turkey good country, England bad country”). As a Scottish guest, I found this offensive and unprofessional.
Meals were tagines every day lunch and dinner with no choices offered. Which for a bit repetitive after a few days. These were also big portion sizes, which may not be a bad thing, but we are but big eaters and were made to feel uncomfortable with comments such as “You no eat?, why you no eat, this is good food”, turned every meal into an ordeal. While possibly cultural, the repeated pressure made mealtime stressful and
The riad was dirty and grubby, nowhere near professional standards. Bed sheets were never changed once during the week, and I doubt they were changed between the previous guests.
Overall: Riad Dar Attika is mis‑sold, badly maintained, and operates on intimidation and overcharging. The environment felt manipulative, unsafe, and unhygienic from start to finish. I left feeling scammed, stressed, and exhausted. Avoid this riad at all costs.
- Juan (4/5): - I thought I was getting a bargain 4 start hotel, but no, this is at best a 3 start hotel poorly catalogued as a 4-star. I don’t recommend it
- Muhammet (4/5): Disappointing - Breakfast was okey but there is not that much alternative. But receptionist Mohammed is very kind person and helped us and chat with us. Rooms are small and dark, the owner said credit card machine does not work so can you pay cash. And I said no as I didn't have cash with me. Then he insisted. I said no cash. Then at that night he said I will bring someone to fix the machine. And that night the machine worked. (As you can imagine, the hotel owner wanted to escape from tax by requesting cash payment from me). I didn't like this and I'm sure nobody likes. Also I printed 3 pages using the owner's printer. He didn't tell me this is paid. And when I saw the bill amount and schocked and asked why this you charge extra (10 dirhem per pages I guess) he said you used the printer. (but in the beginning he didn't say this is paid) The owner is not an honest person. Normally, for example, I should have paid 230 euros, but she charged 260 euros
- Helen (8/5): Great location, nice breakfast v friendly and helpful staff - Fabulous location
V friendly and helpful staff All was good
- Wendy Corina (10/5): - Super vriendelijke mensen
- Anna (7/5): Didn't get the room I chose. - Great location, beautiful interior, very nice receptionist, nice welcome. Nice rooftop and dining area, delicious breakfast. The night receptionist was really kind and helpful, but I didn't like the manager's attitude. I complained I didn't get the room I had booked and he laughed at my face. I booked a suite with balcony, but got a room with no outside windows. It was a bit claustrophobic. Too expensive for what I got.
- Mina (4/5): - Can’t believe I paid that much for this dungeon.Unlike other Riads with beautiful courtyards and actual receptionists, this place was a total disappointment
Right after I booked, I messaged them to say I’d be arriving after midnight and would need help finding the place(since addresses there are basically just street names with no numbers)They gave me a WhatsApp number and said they had 24/7 reception. That was a lie but they forgot about something calls Reviews
I arrived at 1am, spent two hours trying to find the place, calling that number over and over and seeing it’s not connected to the internet. No one was around in that time. Finally at 3am I found the place with an elderly janitor who had no idea what WhatsApp even was.
Once inside, things only got worse. The pillowcases had visible stains, so we had to dig through our luggage to find something to sleep on,later we discovered even nastier stains on the blanket, so we slept in our sweatshirts and skipped the blanket
Morning came with the crazy noises turns out a building right next door was being demolished. Not their fault, but it was the cherry on top. Then we asked about breakfast and were told it wasn’t included, despite literally every other Riad I searched including breakfast that was the last drop
Even the towel didn’t seem clean, so we skipped showers and got out of there ASAP.With almost the same price (actually a bit less)we booked Riad Saba and it was a dream.I’ve recommended it to everyone
- curtiss (10/5): - Very helpful and friendly staff
- Ranganath (9/5): Superb - Great location, comfortable and clean rooms. It is very close to Bahia Palace and easy walk to Jemma El-Fnaa. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. We had asked for an airport pickup and that made it easy to locate the Riad. The breakfast was good. Room was conjusted but not really a problem as we didn't spend so much time in the room.
- Calvinl93 (8/5): Lovely staff and location - The staff was just outstanding, we mainly dealt with Mohameed, which was a lovely guy that just wanted you to have a good time and was open to have a chat about anything. The rooms was spacious and clean and had daily room service.
Location is great, not right in the center but close enought for everything and the hussle and bussle of Marrakesh greets you the entire walk home.
Some people may rate down the dark rooms. The rooms are dark and facing a court yard but if you learn about Moroccan tradition, that's completely normal and part of their history. If you want a bright place book a hotel in the new town.
Overall this is a great place is the historic Medina of Marrakesh. Breakfast could be slightly fresher and more diverse. It is quite carb heavy but not bad overall.
The bed is actually very hard and for some people this could be quite uncomfortable. However we slept surprisingly well in it. So I don't want highlight this as a criticism but just for people to be aware.
- Avv.
- Matthew (6/5): Pleasant - The riad is in a good location, the staff were friendly and attentive and the roof to terrace was relaxing. Pay for the accommodation via Booking, not at the riad, as the exchange rate I paid was very high.
- Cheryl (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (9/5): A lovely Riad in a great location, with very friendly and helpful staff. - Fantastic location, lovely and clean and very friendly staff who were always on hand, helpful and welcoming. We loved the Riad, it was calm and has a great roof terrace where we had breakfast every day.
- Jody (8/5): Marrakech is truly an assault on the senses in a good way.A busy 4 days . - Traditional Morrocan breakfast of pancakes, jams, bread, salad, coffee and cake every morning .Mehmet prepared it whatever time we needed it . Nothing really
- Natalia (9/5): Superb - The host was very hospitable. He offered us a welcome tea. It has a good location (close to Bahia palace), a clean and cozy room, and comfortable mattresses. The room and bathroom have heaters (which is good during the cold nights). Breakfast could be better and fresh. Small bathroom. Windows didn't isolate the noise from the street.
- Justina (9/5): Superb -
- Keterin (10/5): Excellent - Excellent accommodation. Everything works perfectly: efficient air conditioning, good shower, comfortable bed, adequately sized bathroom and daily cleaning.
Jamal is a great host and Mohammed's affection and attention are essential for very pleasant days in this riad.
Mohammed prepares a delicious breakfast with breads, sweets, juices and coffee.
The location is convenient, close to the main tourist attractions to do on foot.
For people with dietary restrictions or who are not used to local cuisine, the Riad has a kitchen equipped to prepare our own meals. The only tip I would give is the possibility of installing some hooks on the bedroom wall, it would be very useful for hanging everyday things, such as towels, coats, etc.
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good -
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Ermal (8/5): Very good -
- Joshua (10/5): Excellent location in the medina. Very friendly staff - Good location in the medina allowed us to make the most of the souks
- Yaya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stuart031262 (8/5): Very good -
- Bendeguz (4/5): Generally does the job if you need a bed to sleep, but shouldnt except more than that - Staff is very nice and friendly, thats for sure! :)
Nice rooftop, good shower pressure Some towels had stains on them, and the room had a foul odor :( matress was uncomfy
- Rukia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ken (3/5): Disappointing. - Breakfast was plentiful but dull - just various sorts of bread with jam. No savouries. But served on a nice rooftop terrace right by our room. Our 'suite' for 3 was very small and poorly lit, which was expertly hidden in the photos on the site. There was a constant unpleasant odour, possibly the drains. Jamal tried to be helpful but it often came across as rather pushy and intrusive.
It was very difficult to pay - Jamal's card machine was broken, which meant I had to go to the bank and exchange money to pay in cash in dirhams, incurring a significant commission charge. He then initially tried to convert the Euro price quoted on the site to dirhams at an elevated exchange rate - just unnecessary hassle which would have been avoided if everything had been made much clearer upfront.
- Zaheer (8/5): Overall, it is a very good place to stay and I would definitely stay there again. - Jamal and Muhammad were excellent and responded to all our every request. Jamal organised our excursions which were excellent and he was also very responsive. He aLao provided us with sound local knowledge. We had the Africaine suite which was a sole room on the ground floor located next to the lounge area, which I expected to be noisy but as there were only about 6 rooms in total, it was not a problem. Cleaners were great, and Muhammad was ever-present. The location was close to Jamal al Fna and the Bahia Palace, which was perfect. The rooftop breakfast was without a view. Breakfast was standard and needed more variety.
- DAPHNE (10/5): - Beautiful Riad!!!! The staff was Amazing and the hospitality was above and beyond, they went out of their way to get me a birthday cake for my boyfriend as a surprise. The food was delicious, everything is clean and the AC worked. It was a little pricey but overall worth it they accept multiple forms of payment. Highly recommended.
- Barča (10/5): Exceptional - It was amazing time in this nice riad. We can highly recommend! Riad is nice, clean, with a good location and friendly atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner delicious! The rooms are nice and clean. Nice view from rooftop where is whirlpool for relax! Everything was perfect. The owner and staff are amazing! Very kind staff who will do everything for your satisfaction and with a smile. Thank you for everything! We can give 10/10!!! We didn't find anything!
- Tayler (8/5): Would recommend. Great value for money - The ladies who welcomed me were so kind which meant more than they know! The room was comfortable and quiet. Location was quite but close enough to main roads and attractions The breakfast was ok, pretty standard for places in Morocco, but could have done with an egg or 2. Jacuzzi wasn’t very inviting
- davidbX9852NI (4/5): Nice, but mixed feelings - Well. I have mixed feelings about this. It's a delightful building. The bedroom was beautiful in its way. The sole staff member we saw was charming. But. I found the bed pretty hard. You don't get a key to the front door so have to knock or ring - but the doorbell was broken. There was some issue with the air conditioning remote controller. The staff member found one which worked, but then reappeared several times later asking us to try other remotes, none of which worked. The last time he knocked on our door waving an alternative remote controller (non-working again) for us to try was 11.30pm when we were in bed! We suspect from half heard conversations that people in another room went that night with no remote controller for their air conditioning. Finally, we were only asked to pay the tourist tax as we were leaving. Naturally, there was "no change" so we had to overpay slightly.
- Shivani (7/5): Good - Staff were amazing and so nice, conveniently placed, quiet and peaceful, nice lobby, nice terrace and jacuzzi Room style was okay, no windows or ventilation so room was stuffy
- Colleen (9/5): Safe clean comfortable great staff and location - A little gem in the medina next to the Bahia palace and a fabulous restaurant
We had the suite on the roof with beautiful terrace and small splash pool
Amazing staff couldn’t do enough for us even escorted us to a spa
Had dinner once and it was lovely
Felt very safe area for 2 females would definitely return Beds were a little hard and maybe more savoury items at breakfast but that’s all and definitely not put me off returning to the riad
- saraepifanio (10/5): Would stay again! - Me and my family had a great stay in this riad for our first time in Morocco and we strongly recommend it. The best thing was the hospitality, we were welcomed in the nicest and attentive way.
The rest was top stars as well - a good breakfast, a comfortable room (we had the African Suite for 4 people in the top floor with access to the outdoor patio which we loved), a central location (within 8min walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa square and through very nice traditional shopping street - and yet the riad was quiet and relaxing).
My best recommendation is to HAVE A MEAL THERE! We tried what felt like a million times couscous and tagines but by far the best, best, best we had was in the riad. It was our favorite meal in Morocco.
If I return, I would like to stay again. Additionally, I will prefer to book extra services through the riad's team since they know best and are very professional (not just guided tours, but a hot air balloon ride for example).
✔️ Great hospitality
✔️ Central location
✔️ Amazing food
✔️ Authentic decor
- Kyeongrok (10/5): Exceptional - Nice price with high quality of staff, facilities and cleanliness Nothing
- DawnRearden (6/5): Mixed Feelings. - Situated down a quiet street, with sad evidence of the effects of last year's earthquake in other buildings.
The initial impression is of traditional Moroccan decor with the layout, the fabrics, lamps, etc and it is lovely. It isn't until you stay in a place for a while that you start to notice the little things such as the chipped tooth mug, the quality of the towels in the bathroom which were thin, frayed and had a small hole or two. Some of the crockery was also chipped or cracked. The bed is one of the hardest that we have slept on which affected our sleep quality. The toilet was loose which made using it a bit of a feat, the taps on the wash basin were also quite loose and the wash hand basin and surround were never cleaned the whole time we were there.
The staff who work there are absoluely lovely and very obliging, although halfway through our stay, we were confronted one evening by a lady whom we had not seen before demanding we pay the city tax and for drinks that we had already had. I would have said she was quite aggressive, but the Arabic language can sound like that to someone not familiar with the language and from someone who did not speak English all that well. I did explain that we were staying for a week and would happily pay when we checked out as we would still have drinks to pay for.
It was also strange having to knock or ring on the doorbell to get in each time we returned after a sightseeing trip.
The terrace on the roof is perfect for relaxing with a choice of tables/chairs in the sun or a wondefulcovered, shaded area. We spent a lot of time here in the afternoons when it got too hot for sight seeing. A jacuzzi is also available, which we did use once. It could perhaps benefit from a mat to step out onto to prevent slipping as another guest who had a child splashed water over quite a lot of the floor and it wasn't easy to see where the water was.
I feel I must mention the fact that we were scammed by the riad owner. We had purchased tickets to visit the Jardins Majorelle for mid afternoon. This particular day was our wedding anniversary and my birthday so we thought it would be a really nice place to visit. As the guide books advise, if unsure, ask at your hotel how much you should be paying for taxi rides. This we did and the owner (as we later found him out to be) mentioned that there are other gardens near and that he could arrange for a taxi to take us to those, wait for us, take us on to a different garden, wait then take us onto the jardins majorelle. Again, we thought that would be a lovely, relaxing, romantic thing to do. Please note the romantic here!. We asked the cost and he told me 60, which I took to be dirham, but he meant euro. I thought it a bit expensive but as my husband pointed out, we would have the taxi for the afternoon and we didn't know where the gardens were or if taxis were available to hire there. I did not hear properly the name of the gardens, being partly deaf, and looking back I felt as if I had been deliberately misled as he muttered the names of them. My husband concurs with how unclear the names of these gardens were. I did not have sufficient cash so said I would get money from the ATM while we were out and about that morning. We hurried around the two sites we had planned to visit that morning in order to get back for lunch at 12 pm as we were being picked up by the taxi at 1pm. When I went to give the owner the money for the trip, it had gone up to 660 dirhams, but as I do have a hearing problem I wasn't sure if I'd misheard the first time, but talking to my husband later, he confirmed that we had agreed 600 dirham an was furious with me for paying the extra 60 dirham. After lunch we were taken by the owner to the taxi - something was said in Arabic to the driver. We got in and after only a few minutes, arried at some tanneries! When my husband asked about the gardens we sere supposed to go to, he shrugged his shoulders and denied knowing anything about them. The tanneries stank, really badly, but apparently not as bad as they can do. We were given a 'Berber gas mask', in other words, a bunch of mint to hold under the nose. We were taken on a tour around then into a shop. We should have known! We were then subjected to a selling experience, which we did not want and felt really intimidated when we didn't want to buy anything. In order to get out of there, my husband ended up buying a belt. We were then taken by the taxi to an area with palm trees and camels. The taxi driver wanted to take my photo infront of the camels which I declined as I really hate having my photo taken. We were offered tea, but it was obious we were expected to purchase a camel ride. We had a camel ride last year around the Giza plateau, and were not interested. It felt very uncomfotable. We then drove around the Palmerie and new town for an hour, killing time until our allocated time at the Jardins Majorelle. We determined to make the most of it and was stunning, but not the day that we had paid for or planned. Why on earth would I want to visit stinking tanneris on my birthday/wedding anniversary? it ruined our day. The hotel owner was coveniently away for the rest of our stay so we cold not discuss this with him and felt really cheated. I really want my hard earned money back but realise that I will never get it. We could have saved our money and gone to something we really wanted to see before going to the Jardins Majorelle.
We pride ourselves on trying to be polite, unobtrusive and respectul guests and are very unhappy that we were treated in this manner.
Because of this, I have only left a 3 star review.
- Carla (8/5): Very good -
- Mariana (5/5): Accommodation is lovely but service disappointing. - The room and bathroom were lovely, equipped with all the listed amenities and a functional air conditioning system. The bed was very comfortable, and the riad was exceptionally clean. The service was quite different from other places.
You don't get a key or a way to open the outside door, so you have to wait for the staff to let you in.
Check-in was awkward, and you have to ask for all the necessary information, as it's not provided upfront.
The reception staff isn't available 24/7, and on our last day, the cleaning lady had to handle our check-out over the phone.
We were charged a "city tax" that wasn't mentioned during booking, and no receipts or explanations were given. We paid it in a rush but recommend inquiring about it (at our previous riad, there were no additional fees).
The staff weren’t rude, but the environment was definitely awkward.
- Kjartan (9/5): Superb -
- karina (10/5): - Muy amables
- Paulina (9/5): Beautiful Riad, tasty breakfast and great customer service from Assan and Jamal! - The Riad was beautiful, we were welcomed with tea and biscuits even at the late hour that we arrived at. Jamal guided us and pin pointed a few of the places most worth seeing as well as gave us general advice in terms of cash exchange, getting around, parking, the lovely Herbalist around the corner and so on. I think the breakfast on the terrace every morning was the highlight of the stay! Loved it! I would also recommend opting for the dinner at Riad! Absolutely amazing!
- Mohammed (9/5): Superb - Very nice riad, great people and great service. In the center of Marrakech. Also great in organizing trips to agafay desert and ourika montains. It was great.
Shorkan to the staff. Will visit again soon!
