My parents stayed in a room that did not match the handicapped discretion that was booked. Ages 84 and 85. One bed when u sat on it or moved sounded like a duck quacking.

It gave the perfect Nightlight. The Staff was amazing! Lucinda was so friendly, professional, courteous and surprised us by graciously upgrading our room. I was so surprised and touched by her thoughtfulness and generosity. We will certainly stay here again anytime we are in the area. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Best Western Plus and know you will love it too!

• Shane (6/5): Stay here for the nice lady - When I checked in the lady that checked in, was so nice to me she’s very friendly. They’re going through a remodel and there were no numbers on the doors, but overall it was clean. They had the pool, which was perfect for the hot weather and they accommodated my small pet for a small fee

The coffee was always out and the desk clerk also was responsible for preparing the food. Noises from adjacent rooms was very noticeable.
• archiphoto (4/5): Book after the hotel is fully renovated - When you arrive, if there's nobody at the front desk you think you've made a mistake and the hotel is closed for construction. Lobby areas are clearly under renovation. Hotel rooms are renovated and in good shape. Unfortunately my bathroom tub had no shower curtain and internet was slow AF. Breakfast was pantry and front desk was decent. Not an awful hotel if you catch at the right time but would come after the renovations are completed

• Don (6/5): Review of recent stay @ Best Western Plus Portland - This hotel is in the process of some remodeling of the main areas. I do not know if this will extend to the rooms, which are in dire need of being remodeled and repaired. That being said I have to commend the staff for their efforts in making this a good stay. They were friendly and the cleaning staff was excellent. This is a hotel that is in need of being remodeled completely. Our room, although clean, had several issues which need to be addressed. The shower/bath combo walls were damaged, visible cracks/break in the wall. There was no shower mat so footing was an issue. The breakfast was good and provided the basics that should fit most traveler's nutrition requirements. If you can get a room here at a reasonable price, it's an ok place to stay, however if you find this place at the same prices as the neighboring hotels, then I would not recommend this place due to those issues I mentioned.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Not worth the aggravation - Booked for 4 days. Second and third days, asked for service. Second day received none, had to ask front desk for clean bath towels. Third day we were just left clean bath mat and two hand towels.No clean bath towels or washcloths. Had to leave early on 4th day so didnt bother complaining. The room cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Its obvious they only sweep the high traffic areas and everything falls by the wayside. The tub didnot drain properly, which is gross. We had to turn shower off intermittenly to give it time to drain. Will never stay here again.

No where did it list that the hotel was undergoing renovations and remodeling so when we arrived the entire hotel was under construction, the entrance was stripped to bare minimum, the lobby was sheet rock paper, the breakfast was paper plates and basic items from local groceries not even water was provided. The door numbers were written on the walls with marker.
• David (8/5): - The facility is undergoing a renovation so things were understandably in flux. All things considered the staff did a good job making the best of the situation. The desk attendant in the afternoon when we checked in was very helpful and pleasant. The one this morning, not so much.
• Nathan (4/5): Construction Zone - Tacky due to hotel being remodeled and unfinished. Room #’s are just written on the wall. The room was ok but the shower/tub was very slippery with no mat in the tub even though it had handicap grab bars. The telephone would not contact lobby. The back door was not unlocked during the day and the card reader did not work. Breakfast was minimal. It was the least expensive option though but….

• 995shermang (4/5): Not Quite Up to Best Western Plus Standards - For a Best Western, this would be 3 stars, but for a BW Plus, it's only a 2. I'm not sure what the specific qualifications are between a standard Best Western and their "Plus" brand, but this particular hotel must have just squeaked by. The front staff was very nice, but both the lobby and rooms had a damp mildew smell. The furniture was sparse and uncomfortable, and the walls were very thin (even low conversational levels were audible from the next room). Pros: - Pet friendly - Nice staff - Had a bigger refrigerator - Average BW breakfast Cons: - Damp mildew smell - Minimal furniture - Thin walls. Could hear normal conversations and early morning alarms through the walls - Would not qualify this as a BW Plus

The room was very spacious and beds were very comfortable, clean room. The breakfast was good but it would have better if another side was added beside the eggs. Good stay.
• steven (4/5): disappointing stay - Saturday morning my wife walked into a flooded bathroom where the toilet overflowed. I had to use all the towels they gave us and that still was not enough. they did fix the toilet later that day so we did not have to change rooms.

We were two females by ourselves. When we would walk by, they would say things like " hey baby, come sit with me." They would make it very obvious they were looking at us to the point of being uncomfortable.
• Ashley (4/5): - The room I booked is not what I received. I booked 2 queen beds since I was traveling with my mother and my daughter. We were given a king bed with a pullout sofa. The hotel also smelled liked mildew everywhere.

• Sladjana (4/5): - This was our second time in this hotel. First time we went, they had to get the locksmith to open the door due to faulty lock. The tub was rusty and it looked poorly cleaned. Second time we stayed (totally forgot about the first time experience-otherwise would not book here!), there was a guest at our room as we tried getting in. So they gave us another room, where A/C was not working (it was 105 F outside that day). We ended up moving for the third time. There was only one person working that day and she was covering front desk, and the laundry area, so waited for quiet a while to get help. Needless to say-understaffed, overbooked, and ultimately very poorly maintained hotel. Never will we stay here again.
• James (6/5): - My room was dirty from the moment I walked in. There were old entry cards, and little salt and pepper packages in the cupboard above the sink. In the cabinet below the sink was a 30 gallon trash bag with opened waters and other items I wasn’t going to dig through, why the electric burners to the stove from the kitchenette were on the bedside table made me wonder as well. There are definitely better places to stay in Portland Texas, and for how expensive this place was I would expect a whole lot more. At least there was a restaurant next door that cooked a decent ribeye, and had a beautiful bar.

• erintP8916PK (2/5): Don’t waste your money - The staff was HORRIBLE, the rooms had roaches, the towels and sheets where still dirty and stained, the manager is creepy, the elevator is sketchy, and the whole thing is just completely unorganized, and some of the “handicap accessible rooms” didn’t even have an accessible shower/bath, my keys never worked, the doors constantly get stuck and can’t be opened, overall this place is overpriced for it’s quality and there are much nicer places to stay in Portland for the same price

• jay1065 (10/5): Comfortable Stay - The staff was welcoming and patient. Upon entrance, guests can see what is for breakfast on the board. My partner and I came back to the hotel at 10pm and saw what they're serving for breakfast the next day. The breakfast was delicious! Our room was spacious and comfortable. Guests can turn the AC to the lowest setting, 60 degrees. However, our tv was not in perfect condition. We noticed a line that comes down the middle, but wasn't distracting. • Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Customer Service - Everyone that worked there was so kind and helpful. Stayed in one King suite and there was only a window unit AC which cooled the bedroom off well but not so much the living space. The front desk staff was nice enough to loan us a fan that worked out great. Would definitely stay here again
• Shontell (8/5): - The price was great. Wonderful breakfast. Social hour with free beer. Only downside is it smelled a little moldy when you walk into the lobby. Great service though!

• dgcarpentier (10/5): Unexpected Trip - We chose the Best Western location as it was closest to relative's final resting place. It was an unexpected trip to attend our relative's funeral. The Best Western experience made that much more easier under the given circumstances, Thank you Best Western.

• jojondiaz (10/5): Enjoyable night - I had a enjoyable time staying at this Portland Best Western. I like thru out the whole hotel cleanness was on point even thru there remodeling. Checking in was fast even with one person on the front desk with 5 guest waiting to get check in.

I have small children and the swimming pool is the highlight of staying in a hotel. I’m very disappointed.

• saraho912 (2/5): Save Yourself the trouble - Do not stay here Broken elevator, broken door lock, dirty sheets, TV broke after an hour, had to move rooms twice before determining this hotel was unsafe and made other arraignments last min for a pet friendly hotel,
• Trinidad (2/5): - The cleaning people left he bottle cleaner and a towel like they had not finished cleaning. We could not lock the door dead bolt. There was coffee pot but no coffee or cups. No glasses to rinse your mouth. The heater was not working.

Then I was locked INSIDE my room and had to ask the hotel for a screwdriver so I could manually remove the lock. then the next room given to me smelled like syrup...everywhere. finally the last room given to me smelled like mold and I complained but this was the last available room and I didnt have time to move hotels. Bad experience. Will never use again.
• elena (10/5): Pet Friendly! Very clean! - Very clean very comfortable everything you need for a stay. Front desk service exceptional. Pool beautiful can't find a thing to complain about. My large dog welcomed with a $20 pet fee. Will definitely save as a favorite for when in this area again.
• borosco1026 (10/5): Nice hotel - My family and myself enjoyed our stay. We travel for softball and the hotel was very convenient for us do to being close to the park. The hotel had great service, internet, friendly staff and room was clean. Will recommend to family and friends.

• donnacP6758AA (10/5): GREAT STAYCATION - We ended up spending more time than usual in the room due to weather. We were comfortable and the staff was wonderful. it made our stay feel more like a vacation even with the weather conditions outside.
• txsweetlady1 (4/5): Will Not Be Staying Again - Did not get the room reserved @ BW website weeks in advance and changed to a handicap room where shower leaked into bathroom as no lip. No recognition as long time BW guests and paying rated almost $150 night. Emergency door on ground floor left propped open 24hrs and guest agent said management had been told and chose not to repair. Grass around hotel not mowed in some time and full of mosquitos. Another chain hotel next door had been mowed and grounds in better condition. Internet password did not work. Loud person checked in 2nd night playing music loudly through wall until after 2AM. Lots of semi permanent guests outside smoking although least of our concerns as seemed like nice gentlemen. We will not be staying again when we return to the area. 1st and last stay at this BW hotel. Marriott or LQ next time.
• ramblindavid (6/5): Moldy Mess - Before I booked my stay at the Best Western in Portland, I had read the many comments that referred to the strong smell of mold in the hotel. I was skeptical, as it is not uncommon for hotels in the Gulf coast area to have a bit of a musty smell. However, when I arrived and entered the hotel, the very strong smell of mold hit me as soon as I walked into the entryway. The smell was still very evident in the lobby as well. I mentioned this to the Front Desk Clerk, but she brushed it off and did not reply. Once in my room I did not notice any moldy smells. The hotel is currently in a state of renovation, but the mold smell cannot be attributed to that. The many comments on Trip Advisor about the moldy smell go back several years. My 3-night stay in the hotel was a nice one, and the renovations did not negatively affect my stay at all. The bed was very comfy, the air conditioner worked well, and the room was clean. After returning home from my visit, I received an email with a survey about my stay. I completed the survey and made mention of the extremely strong moldy smell in the entry and lobby area. I received a reply from Dwayne, the Front Desk Manager, that was the same generic, scripted and corporate approved reply that everyone gets when a negative comment is made. Since the mold has been commented on for several years now it seems that the ownership and/or management of the Best Western in Portland is either unable or unwilling to correct the problem.
• robertsZ2709LQ (6/5): Great location - Great location, despite roadwork out front. Very basic location, need some detail work to bring it up to date. But we got a good nights sleep and comfortable beds. Breakfast is OK, nothing to write home about.
• Francisco (4/5): Only on Wednesday! - When we checked in the room was ok, not super clean but not dirty. We checked in on Sunday and the beds were made til Wednesday, trash was taken out on Wednesday as well. The bathroom was never clean and had roaches and one of the tiles of the wall fell off and broke that was never fixed either and we report that to the front office . Pest control arrived on Tuesday morning and asked us to leave the room because they were going to spray it and so we refused to leave since it was early in the morning . I guess the hotel takes care of the rooms only on Wednesdays!!
• Le (6/5): - A nice place for our budget. The staff is very friendly. The space is large enough for two kids running around. The only thing I would complain is the smell of smoke, although it claims to be a non-smoking room, the smell comes from the wall, furniture and carpet (the so called “third hand smoke” accumulated from the past).
