Guest Reviews
- Ruth (8/5): Small but comfortable - Convenient are, clean, small room but as expected. Friendly staff on desk 24/7, comfortable bed and powerful shower
- Mary-Rose (8/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful!
- george (10/5): Edinburgh festival stay. - Reception not always open otherwise all good and really decent studio room with lots of light and space... better than any student accommodation I knew back in the day.... thanks.
- Jane (10/5): Smidigt!
- Jonathan (4/5): Don’t bother - My partner and me stayed for one night while I was on business. Given the time of year with the festival it was hard to get rooms in the city. Rooms were small, you only had one very soft pillow and you weren’t able to get an additional. The towels in the bathroom were tiny. The showers were so small you had to step in side ways and shower could only be turn on/off while in it. Rooms were very basic I feel bad for the student paying 114+ a week to stay here. There was a lot of noise as well due to building works and people running round the corridors.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Stay elsewhere if you can - Shortly after arriving in my room I discovered a used condom on the floor under the table!!!! Completely disgusting and unacceptable, I mean the cleaners missing a bit of litter I can get over but a used condom?! Radiator in the bedroom area didn’t work so I was freezing at night especially. Dirty marks all over the walls. Shower didn’t drain properly so you had to shower really quickly and even then you were up to your ankles in water .
- Mab (4/5): - Walking distance to the city. Small bathrooms and uncomfortable bed. Have elevator. Kitchenette was functional. Also need to pay 5 pound if u need a hair dryer for the whole duration of your stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Comfortable, but perhaps short on cleanliness - The room and set-up were comfortable and adequate. However, there was a smell in the bathroom that made me suspect that it wasn't as clean as it should be...
- Stephen (8/5): - Good basic accommodation not far from city centre
- abhishek (8/5): - Usual student accommodation
Suggestion : not for 2 fat people
- Verified traveler (6/5): Satisfactory stay with room for improvement - Overall: Stay was satisfactory.
Positive points:
Staff were friendly
Very clean and pleasant environment
Location was pleasant
Negative points:
One of the lights wasn’t working in the room leaving it dark
The bed creaked horribly - to the point where it would wake us up in the night if we moved
Other:
Room was smaller than in example picture although this wasn’t a problem
- Verified traveler (8/5): Does what it says on the tin - The accommodation was as we expected - basic but clean and the staff were very helpful and polite
.Ideal for a short stay / good location
- Min Jae (8/5): Good journey - Good location nice people
- Verified traveler (4/5): They don't care - When we arrived works were being done. No signs outside that the accommodation was there, the builders were not able to tell us this was McDonald's road 6. No indication where the reception was. It was on the mezzanine.
Room was supposed to be a double. Although they do say the dimensions of the bed on the booking sites, they should not call this a double, when two people can hardly fit.
They are supposed to clean every week. They did not.
- Alex (10/5): - Everything was great. No complaints. The room was clean, the staff was nice and it was within walking distance of the old town.
- Stephan (8/5): Adequate good value for money - Good value you for money. Good location, basic accommodation but this is what we were expecting as all we needed was a bed for the night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Relatively cheap in Edinburgh - Still close to city centre. Relatively cheap in Edinburgh
Camera senza tv.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Simple, but cheap and totally sufficient. Nice surroundings and close to the city centre.
A cama super desconfortável.
(6/5): - It's all about how much u cost, the room is equal the survive is good
- oren (6/5): Nice place on a budget with one big problem - Location was pretty good 5-10 min walking from the Main Street.
The room Was pretty spacious however the bathroom was really small and the bed was so uncomfortable that sleeping on the floor looked like the better option most of the time
- Verified traveler (8/5): - receptionist are wonderful, very friendly. Not bad for a two star.
road work is being done around the area. can be noisy in the morning
- Isuru (4/5): Lots of shortcomings - Check in & check out were ok. Staff was friendly. But even room heating was not working. Staff was not much bothered after telling. Oven of the kitchenette did not work at all.Later they gave a key to a kitchen two stories above. Had to go up and down with Food. If maintained properly could make it a better place. Currently do not recommend.
- N K (8/5): liked the concept and overall good accomodation - We stayed there for one night. The accommodation was very good considering the price we got it for. They have shared kitchen facility as well and rooms are clean enough.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice, but loud & could be more comfortable - The room was clean. The bathroom is small, but at least it's connected to the room itself. The mattress is in need of some loving - it was hard and springy so that wasn't the best.
The street the accommodation is on is shared with a fire station, and LOUD emergency vehicles woke me up several times the first night. I would recommend this place to someone in a pinch and with a very low budget.
- Claire (4/5): Great for £30, outrageous for £145 during festival - This is exactly what it sounds like, an old student accommodation, outdated, big hole in the wall, no curtains on the window. I would not mind that much for general price (£30) but I paid £145 due to Edinburgh festival so ... Indeed one angry customer! I know the law of offer and demand but I booked this in April for an August stay... I bet this is how they make their money for the year !!
- Janey (6/5): Good Location - Check in went very smoothly. Room was basic but clean.
I read some horrible reviews and was a little scared but my findings, great location, clean & basic.
Firstly the shower door opens out as well as in so you don't need to be 'twiggy'.
- Alice (6/5): Warm welcome and budget value - Superb helpful staff and the room was very clean and a good comfortable base for sleeping. The only bad points we found were that the room was overheated with only one small opening window, also the bed is not a full size double so we regularly hit the wardrobe and bed side table when turning over. Overall this is a great budget option but don't look to spend your evenings there, as there is no tv or comfortable chairs in the room
- steven (4/5): Dump... Live like a TRUE Student - Student Accommodation... TRUELY STUDENT.....
Could have at least cleaned!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dirty bathroom - The room is basic, but as you would expect for the price and would have been ideal for a place to lay our heads if it weren't for the location of the bathroom! It clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while. There were pubes in the toilet, hair, dust and dirty marks on the shelves, the shower was dirty and plug hole blocked and the bathroom really smelt which made it very unpleasant to use. Other than this the room was comfortable, but it's useful to know that after checkout they won't hold your bags for you.
- Ann (8/5): Very convenient location, clean. - Great location - just off Leith walk. Handy for short walk to town or bus links to everywhere. Plenty of places to eat or drink near by - and supermarkets to stock up the fridge or freezer in the lounge/kitchen.
Rooms are clean - but not the most spacious. Our room has a queen size bed and we were a bit worried - but after a full day round the town we slept no problem. There was not much noise even with the window open - but as with most places it would also depend on who was in the other rooms.
The staff were always at the front desk and ready to help.
Not a luxury place to go - but as a place to sleep and refresh it's great - would do this again - particularly with the reasonable prices when the Fringe is on - which made the trip possible for us.
- penfy (6/5): Only worthwhile if you won't be in the room a lot. - Stayed two nights for the Fringe. It's student accommodation and I wasn't expecting much so I'm willing to be more forgiving as I was planning on being out all day.
Good points: Check-in/check out was quick/easy. Staff were friendly, polite & helpful. Great view across the city skyline. Free wi-fi, plenty of power outlets and water heat/pressure were fine.
Bad points: The room was apparently designed for Hobbits. There's not much space to begin with so it's a bit claustrophobic. Double bed was small with only one thin pillow on each side (although I didn't ask the staff for any extra so I don't know if they can be provided). Shower cubicle is ridiculously small and shower door opens inwards towards the shower head so this means you have to open the door, get in the cubicle and try to push the door past yourself again to close it. I'm not exactly stick thin but I'm not overweight either and I had to struggle to fit in and squeeze the door past myself.
In terms of cleanliness, the room and bathroom in general were quite bright and clean but I don't think any housekeeping had been done before our arrival. Towels in the bathroom were all used and covered in hair. There was only about 1/4 of a toilet roll available. Someone had left a pair of leggings on a shelf but most disturbingly someone had left their negligee under one of the pillows suggesting the bedding had not been changed since the last occupier.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Modern but not clean. - Modern but very used and not deep cleaned after student occupation so heavy soiling on soft furnishing. I had to clean toilet before first use. Hand towel showed fingerprint of feces as if the cleaner had made an attempt at cleaning the toilet and then immediately handled the clean towels. Mattress well warn and sagging. If you have to stop here bring your own soap for yourself and your room!
- Warren (8/5): Good value for money - Value for money stay. Kitchen available for cooking and had a TV room.
Location was good as well. Clean room.
On the negative, the matress wasn't the comfiest and the hotel doesn't offer bag storage if you wish to leave your bags there your last day while you visit the town.
- sonja (8/5): roof top vieuw - Everythig I needed was there. Very central walking distance of my familly.
Even thouigh I was there for a sad reason, I lost a sister one year ago.
- Jodie (8/5): All round happiness - minor difficulties - My long distance boyfriend and I stayed here for a week last month. Very happy with the price and location of the hotel! Easy to get to with plenty of parking around! Only disappointments if that people in the rooms next to us were busy people and made lots of noise coming in and out of the room a lot, and the room didn't have a to like pictured, or come with toilet roll. Other than that we were happy with our stay. Very happy with the reception staff, lovely people!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Shet - Shet place i see i my life
Cleaning for chek in very bad
Receptionist clean the room on the time
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Great room for low cost, bed was not so good, springy
- Buds (6/5): An average small room to spend a night or two - Nice location.
Good common living room and kitchen.
Small double bed not comfortable for a couple.
Good price.
Overall just an average experience.
- Barry (2/5): Uncomfortable - Cold rooms. Blankets poor quality. No TV. Bed very uncomfortable and needs replaced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean, good location and nice staff. - As it is a student accommodation, it was not luxurious (and fine with us!). The room was really clean. The shared kitchen was not as clean as the room, but it was okay. It was reasonably priced, well located and the staff was super nice and helpful. I recommend!
- jay (2/5): Not a correct description
- room was so basic it reminded me of military barracks. Would never stay again well over priced
- Maria (6/5): basic but good - Basic accomodation, good value for money.
The Fringe was on and hotel prices in Edinborough was very high. McDonald Road Appartmets was a cheap option, basic but comfortable. We payed £167 for 3 nights, so not to bad. Don't have high expectations and you will be ok.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - The room had not been cleaned on arrival (approx 2.30pm). We told reception who sent someone pretty promptly. The cleaner asked if we were moving in that day, we replied that we were and asked for 5 mins to have a cup of tea then we would be going out.
When we returned later the room had been cleaned but all of our groceries (newly purchased on arrival from the Co-op) had been taken from the fridge. Most of these turned up at reception. Apparently the cleaner wasn't sure if they were ours ? Also it was the same guy on reception who knew that we had newly checked in and had sent the cleaner to our apartment ?
This meant our milk etc had been left out of the fridge for several hours.
The other gripe is for 2 people only:1 bath towel supplied no hand towels or bathmat.
This poor service is a shame because the apartment (superior) was otherwise we'll eqipped : double bed, wardrobe, drawers, desk, small table & chairs, microwave, oven, hob, toaster, kettle, pans, cutlery and crockery.
Excellent location surrounded by cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.
At least half a dozen bus routes serve the area, including night buses.
- staff (4/5): Not good - Worst experience in hotel and no good staff. I paid money no soap and no shower gel and no towel no tooth paste. I single bed how living two person
- Mick (4/5): Close to the City Centre but the room was basic... - Our stay was pleasant and it was convenient having the use of washing machines and a kitchen however we did find the rooms to be very basic.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was decent enough, but I had a room that was right about the entrance where everyone congragated when smoking, and it was loud. The mattress on the bed wasn't very comfortable, and the shower door opening meant that you had to be paper thin to squeeze in the cubicle.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Okay as a last resort - Stayed in a "premier" room, disappointed with general cleanliness and basic decor. The ventilation was poor which made sleeping uncomfortable, not helped by cheap mattress, bedding and only 1 pillow each. Had to ask for additional pillows, a kettle and a bedside lamp! Definitely no frills - no soap or bath mat, not so much as a tea towel or dishcloth to keep the kitchen area clean - surely can't be expected to bring your own such items! Gave up trying to connect to wi-fi. Understand this is normally student accommodation but if it is being advertised as a hotel, charging hotel rates they really need to up their game. Was glad to see the back of it!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Utilitarian - If all you're looking for is a place to crash while you explore the city this is ideal. Pretty much what you expect from student apartments. No soap in the bathroom and not enough toilet paper but otherwise clean. Friendly staff. Nice to have use of a kitchen, and its conveniently right across the street from groceries.
- Michael (8/5): Good value and location - Good stay. Has lifts. Accessible from city centre.
- Russell (8/5): Reasonable priced place to stay during the Fringe - For the price this was a decent option during the Fringe. The rooms are typical dorm rooms although they do have a (tiny) bathroom. The rooms are small were fine for the two of us. Internet was excellent. It would have been nice if they would have included a bathmat for the floor. Bed is not very comfortable and fairly small for 2. Location is fairly decent.
- Frank (8/5): recommended if you're on a budget - it was very nice for what it was. It's a student accommodation, so keep that in mind. The check in closes at 10 pm, so be sure to arrive earlier. I arrived at 9:58 pm and the attendant was already gone. I had to borrow someone's phone to call the emergency line and fortunately someone showed up In just a couple minutes, so everything was fine. recommended if you're on a budget.
- El (6/5): Well positioned - Very basic small "double" room. First impressions, carpet looked very grubby-sparse. The room was neat but small and had nothing in it apart from some basic furniture which was plain but newish looking. Though small, there was lots of storage. Bed cloths a bit crumpled and stained.
Towels were very small and thin and the toilet was small also. This tiny on-suite was fairly clean and the shower was powerful and the water hot.
This room was over priced however compared to the prices of hotels in general during Edinburgh Fringe understandable.
- Malcolm (2/5): For STUDENTS ONLY - I booked this via Hotels.com and feel that I have been misled as the Accommodation profile is McDonald Road Apartments! I have seen more furniture in a caravan than in our tiny room for 2!. There is no mention that this is private student accommodation in any of the body text. We booked 4 nights and we had to share small double bed in a poky room with no toilet paper soap or even a bath mat. The room only gets cleaned at the end of the booking hence you have to use the same towels. There is no mention that the facilities are the bare minimum and for the price of £366 for 4nights this was a complete rip off. The staff at the Apartments assured me that they informed Hotels.com that this is student accommodation but we were not informed before we booked otherwise would have changed our minds. VERY DISAPPOINTED customers
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent Stay, value for price - We had stayed for 3 days in this hotel in a studio and it was pretty decent one. Its near by to the train station and all the local tours n attractions.
The people at reception were helpful. We had a repair in shower and they fixed it pretty quick. We had a pleasant stay.
- Tom (6/5): Basic - Booked a 2 night stay here to explore Edinburgh, decent location, 10 minute walk from main centre, parking was first issue, had to drive down a few further streets to park on a residential road for free, no car parks nearby, lots of tourists checking in, staff were friendly, however soon as we got to our room the door card wouldnt work so couldnt get in! Room was clean, stripped down to basics a bed, wifi, en suite, shared kitched which was clean. The bed was small and deffiently not comfy! If i was a student living there i would burn the matress, didnt sleep very well, the toilet seat was broken and the staff said this was a problem 'in the whole complex' ?? We made do with the sliding seat, shower was small but powerfull, all in all a basic little place we was just glad we was staying just 2 nights and not any longer, there is shops nearby which was handy and if your lazy like me to walk up hill there is a bus stop nearby which takes you into centre for a few quid!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to the city centre and local shops - Very nice and cosy place to saty. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a double room which was not very large however it benefited from a large kitchen and comfort area shared with two other rooms. Generaly speaking, it is a good value for money as it is very close to the city centre and local shops and restaurants.
- Valentina (4/5): Cheap and that's it!! - Room is nice and cheap.there is a nice kitchen to share.
I asked 3 times to fix the toilet seat, but no one never fixed.
1 roll of toilet paper foot 4 days?? Seriously??I had to ask to a cleaner met in the room close to mine.
The toilet paper was into a black bag plenty of detergent for clean. Hygienes zero.
Bed was crackling. Not the best room of the place. I'm feeling sorry for a student who will live there for an entire year.
- Jo (6/5): Student Accomodation - Staff were very helpful. Location is great. But to be clear this is STUDENT accommodation. No soap, no shampoo. Superficially it had been cleaned, but the drains were clogged with thick black hair, the kitchen was shared, but nobody else was willing to clean up after themselves. The kitchen bin seemed to never get changed. We only stayed 4 nights, that was enough. But for the PRICE, I think maybe I shouldn't complain too much, just buyer beware it is student accommodation.
- Claus (6/5): A stay in a student apartment. . - Narrow double bed and small room for college students. Good shared kitchen and TV room.
No soap in bath room and only one towel for two people.
- colin (6/5): Ideal city centre location. No frills. - Staff very helpful with late arrival and subsequent extended stay. Accommodation is clean , but basic which is what i was looking for as away all day.
Well recomend apartments.
- Mack (8/5): Great cheap accommodation - Great location just off Leith's Walk, far enough away from the tourist droves of old town, but close enough to walk to. Good food options nearby! The room was perfect for the two of us, however the shared kitchen at the end of the hall was grubby as hell with zero clean dishes, likely due to the full time residents in the adjacent rooms. Apart from that it was a fantastic stay!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Booked a double room. Only had 1 towel and bed was no bigger than a single
- Christine (6/5): Not really a hotel - This isn't really a hotel, hence the low rating. It's a student apartment but it's very comfortable for being one. Just be prepared that there won't be things like soap, extra towels, extra toilet paper etc. There is a kitchen one can use but barely any plates, utensils etc. The place could do with a deep clean. Good location and the staff is very very nice and helpful.
- kathy (6/5): Good price/performance ratio - We stayed for 2 nights in Edinburgh and only wanted to find a place which is clean and comfortable. The double room was amazingly clean for a hostel, especially the bathroom. And it was also closer to the city center than expected. The walk into town took approx 15 mins and grocery shops and restaurants were just around the corner. Good price/performance ratio
