Guest Reviews
- Amber (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): Loved it! - Staff was extremely nice. Campground had great amenities and very clean. It is very close to the train tracks and trains do come by multiple times a night. But we would definitely stay here again
- Dominika (6/5): - Clean cabin and nice staff members. I didn't like that we didn't have the pillows and the comforters ( but got informed about it before the trip ). Our cabin was by the railway so it was super loud, I couldn't sleep. The bathroom is not connected to the cabin ( and I also knew about it before coming to the place). My husband said the men's bathroom smelled absolutely horrible.
- M (8/5): Very good -
- John (2/5): Cabin - Was not accurately descriptive on how close the railroad tracks are to the room! 15-20’ max from the cabin, had 4 separate trains pass a night roughly every 1.5-2 hours and shakes the entire cabin. No sleep the first night, had to buy ear plugs for us the second night. Bed mattresses are 4-6” thick pads. General store was nice, bath house was ok and the staff was friendly.
- Rachael (10/5): - We stayed this past week with our two dogs, and it was a wonderful family vacation. We stayed in the Blacksmith Cottage, which was fully-furnished with everything we needed. The kitchen was clean and well-stocked with pots and pans, and the oven and fridge were great to have. The bathroom was clean and comfortable. The grounds were quiet and seemed very safe - we did hear the trains a few times, but with a white-noise speaker and some soft earplugs, it didn't bother us or the dogs at all. If you're looking for a nice place to stay with the pups, close to historical Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, this is a love stay!
- Tammy (9/5): We loved this campground, a first for us! Very clean, well kept. Very close to all the places you would love to go. Faci - Very close to everything!! Very clean and staff is very friendly and helpful . Maybe have an entrance and an Exit
- Michelle (6/5): If you like trains, this is the place for you! - When booking this cabin at Anvil, I saw a cabin listed for $170 for 2 nights then one listed for $178 for 2 nights. The $178 cabin included toilet paper, TV, guest bathroom, refrigerator. When glancing through, I "assumed" that guest bathroom meant that there would be a bathroom in the cabin. To my surprise, paying $8.00 more did not give me a bathroom. Upon receiving confirmation, I was surprised to read that the bathroom was a short walk away. Also, the cabin is directly beside train tracks. In the confirmation it states that the train runs throughout the night and most people do not complain. I am certainly surprised by that statement as the train shakes you awake. It felt and sounded like we were right on the tracks which if you looked outside, was within feet of the cabin. The train passes by twice in the middle of the night and once in the morning. If you like trains, this is the place for you. If you are used to quiet, I recommend you stay elsewhere. Their guest bathrooms were very clean but again, not what I would have preferred. When I called to ask to move, I was told there was no availability anywhere else and it was non-refundable. I blame myself on not calling to inquire however, it should be more obvious that there is no bathroom in the cabin. Also, the "mattress" on the wooden platform was thin and extremely uncomfortable. We pulled the futon mattress off and put it on the bed as well. We at least got a bit of sleep but was happy to go home to comfort. Beside train tracks, very noisy.
Thin mattress on wooden platform
No private bathroom.
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Bonnie (8/5): Nice vacation. - N/A Those trains were a complete surprise.
- Tamara (8/5): Very good - It is a small RV campground with a few
cabins and cottages. Has a game room, basketball court, play ground, and a smaller swimming pool..a lot of things to keep kids busy. The only thing is it is next to the train track. Nothing really for the campground itself, just the train tracks behind it
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jekaterina (1/5): Bad -
- Kimberley (9/5): Superb -
- Rinthida (9/5): Fun for a whole family to stay. Very good location-based - In very convenient location. Staff is super friendly. There are abundant enjoyment for kids all in one place. Cabin I stay is clean and comfortable. No bed sheet, no pillow, no blanket , no towel prepared unless you rent them. I didn't know it so I didn't bring any. Anyway they still have a set for you to rent at 20$ a set.
- Lance (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, clean, family friendly, and a hidden gem. Will go back again. The children had a blast and the amenities were wonderful as was the friendly staff. The train waking us up but the kids slept through it.
- Diana (10/5): Anvil Campground is the BEST!!! - Anvil Campground is the most wonderful place to stay when visiting the Williamsburg area. There is so much to do at the Campground, that if you have nothing else planned, you'll still be fully entertained. Two playgrounds, a heated pool, basketball court, game room, seasonal events and more!!! There is absolutely NOTHING we don't like about Anvil! It's a perfect place to stay!
- Ranisha (9/5): Other than the pool we had a amazing time?! - The pool was not warm at all!!
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Andrea (10/5): Bathroom clean. Felt safe since I was solo lady traveler. - Felt safe. Staff was very accommodating. Train scared my dog but she got use to it!
- Troy (2/5): Read fine print - Nothing to do and over priced. Train went by cabin 3 all night long. Everything closed at 8 and even the game room. Very small cabins with no bathroom. Will never stay again
- Martha (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): You won’t be disappointed staying at Anvil Campground. - Everything! Very well maintained. Clean, quiet, and store pretty well stocked.Very friendly staff. Nothing
- Sonia (10/5): - This is a real gem. It is small but very accomodating. Love seeing the families enjoy themselves and seeing everyone walking their dogs. Very friebdly. Wish it hadn’t rain but our daughter still had a great time at the game room and the free ice cream. Wish the ac worked better in the game room amd bathrooms but they were not terrible so I still give them a good review. We stayed in the apprentice cabin and it was very nice and comfortable-exept the queen bed could have used a spring base instead if the wood box used in a lot of camprounds. Makes for a very achy night sleep. Remember an airmatress and hopefully it won’t slide off but would have been nice. other than that this is an awesome lovation with all kinds of places to see all around. And one special treat believe it or not was the train track right behind our cabin. The train track runs some feet away from the camp but I absolutely loved the trains. I thought it was fun to see what kind of train it was and our dogs didn’t even mind it. I could hear them at night and didn’t ebother me then either. What a lovely place to go see. It is tiny, look at the website , but it is a hit with our family.
- Michael (10/5): Everything was exceptional from the cabin to the staff. Very clean - Good location very friendly staff. Cabin was very clean and spacious for our family of 6. Nothing everything was better than planned
- Barr (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linwood (8/5): - I didnt like that the campers are so close together
- Kehris (10/5): - We rented one of the cabins at Anvil and my family was a little nervous about my plans - camping, dry cabin, grilling dinner... Immediately, my family fell in love and is eager to stay at Anvil again next year. Their story is amazing and I have enjoyed sharing it. The campground was small and very quaint but had all the things to keep everyone busy; rain or shine. They also worked very hard keeping everything so clean! Many thanks to their team!
- Erick (10/5): Exceptional - Staff N/A
- Baerbel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charles (10/5): - Staff was great!
- Thomas (8/5): - everyone was extremely nice and helpful !! can tell it is a family run business. bathrooms awesome, sites way above average in layout etc. even pool table in arcade…
would have put cabins away from rr tracks, commuters ok, but the 1-3 min coal trains woke me up every time both nights. :-(
for the extra cost vs. test site in same area not really get full value of renting a cabin, btw cabin were very nice!
would go again but likely with my popup..
- Philip (9/5): great place to relax - clean and friendly staff community family…
- Soto (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly respectful people well clean and organized. Satisfied
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Everything!!! The staff is amazing and everything is so neat and clean. Also, our little one accidentally left her IPad in the cabin and it was found and mailed back to us. Thank you all so much. Nothing!!!
- Harrell (8/5): Very good -
- Kerri (10/5): Great little campground - Cute little cabins and very festive. Extremely family and dog friendly. Will definitely go back.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Photos are a little deceiving. Idk we’re the red cabins are, didn’t see them, but we did stay in a spacious bungalow. Very clean! Grounds were kept very nice. People were very friendly. Nice front porch with picnic table, another table with 4 chairs, bench swing, grill and a fire pit. Cement parking space. Plenty of swings and stuff for kids. They can ride their bikes around property without worry. We had a pleasant stay! Would gladly stay again if the beds and pillows weren’t so hard. One other thing. The train tracks are right behind the camp grounds. So if you don’t like loud noises when your sleeping. I myself love the sounded the train!
- Lisa (10/5): Very pleasant stay for the weekend. I have already recommended it to a couple other people. - Friendly staff, convenient location. not sure there was anything
- Diana (10/5): Love it at Anvil Campground!!! - Staff is always super friendly and the campground is kept clean. They have fun activities for everyone to enjoy throughout the year!!! N/A
- Alicia (8/5): Very good - Very clean and very new cabins There were no pillows, bed linens or towels
- Stephen (10/5): Great campground with wonderful amenities for the kids. - Staff was excellent and we really enjoyed all of the extra amenities for the kids. Mattresses could have been better, but they worked fine.
- Liselle (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay. This campground was our little home-base while going to Busch gardens. - I really liked the campground. Very well maintained property. Wish there was a bathroom or something on the far end of the campground or maybe bathrooms added onto the cabins somehow. We were in cabin 3 which isn’t a big walk from the bathrooms but when you have toddlers there’s a lot of back and forth. Having a bathroom closer to cabin 3 would have been a big help.
- Hursh (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. More power for the shower.
- Shelley (10/5): - My grandsons 5 and 7 had a wonderful time. The camp ground was just perfect for us . The train was not a problem at all the boys loved it. Very clean and well kept, everyone very helpful and pleasant. Will come back and would recommend to grand parents that want to make a great memory.
- meghan (4/5): - The campground was clean enough, and the bathrooms were clean at times. Certainly not "cleanest in the world" as advertised. The cabin itself was clean but the mattresses were SO uncomfortable. We have stayed in many cabins like this and I have never had such bad back pain that lasted for days. Worst of all though is the train that passes about 15 ft from the cabin all night long. I did get an email about this a few days before our reservation "warning" us, but this was after I could get a refund. We would have never stayed here knowing it would be two sleepless nights in a row. Shame on Anvil for not being up front.
- cynthia (2/5): - When booking the room it states that there are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. However that’s is not the case. The restroom is not in the cabin but you have to walk to it. I did receive an email stating that the restroom was not in the cabin but was “super close” so we thought it Wally’s be a good experience but that also was not the case. There were 2 cabins relatively close to the restrooms but that was not ours. Even though one of them were empty the whole time of our visit we were not offered that cabin. 2 days after that we received and email that there was a train that ran behind the cabin at various times throughout the say which was no issue, but it didn’t say that I could have reached out the cabin and touched it. It wasn’t only the noise but the whole cabin shakes every time the train went by so no sleep was found. They also don’t tell you that the mattress are only a 2 inch thick plastic covered piece of foam. The place is pretty clean which is good and the game room is nice but it closes at 6. We checked out early and asked for a refund but was denied. We went to a hotel that was cheaper and much nicer.
We would not return if you are looking to ruffing it at an elaborate price this is the place for you. Also be aware there are cameras all over the place on the campground.
- XAVIER (2/5): - It was the worst experience ever! I don’t recommend this place to anyone
- Lori (10/5): - The staff are very welcoming and super friendly. Everything was ready upon our arrival. The cabin was extremely clean and cozy. The bathhouse/restroom facilities were clean and heated. The surrounding area was nice and included an arcade and playground to occupy little ones. This campground is extremely nice and we would definitely stay there again.
- Enrique (10/5): cottage getaway - Very relaxing and quiet.
- Sean (10/5): The Trains are rocking the campgrounds but no whis - Well it's a great family campground with options to stay with your tent, a cabin or your Rv
Only one shower for the men and another one for women
All in one bathhouse
Very clean and friendly.
If you are sensitive to noise it's pretty quite until you hear and feel the dieisel train
Thunders by a few times every night
Regardless if you're in a tent or trailer it's 20-30 feet from you, your going to know exactly what I'm telling you
2 hrs sleep after 11 pm so tuck in early....
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Campground very clean and well maintained
- Lisa (10/5): Great Place to Stay! - Great place to stay in the area and the people were very nice and welcoming. The place was very clean and comfortable. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
- Franklin (10/5): An adventure - We stayed in one of the log cabins. Our grandkids loved the adventure and play areas on site. They also enjoyed watching the trains as they passed by. Our bed was on the hard side but ok. The staff is excellent. Everyone was nice and friendly. Check-in was a breeze. Will stay again next time we are in the area.
- Enrique (10/5): Cabin - Staff was very friendly. Second time staying there and would definitely stay again.
