If you have opted to pay at property The Queens Hotel will ask for payment on arrival either by debit or credit card. Our apartments are pre pay only. The Queens Hotel does not accept any groups of 6 people or more. Group Policy: Bookings with 3 rooms or more (up to 6 people total) will be required to pay a 50% non refundable deposit within 24 hours of booking. Guests staying at Victoria Cloisters will be required to leave a £100 security deposit. Please note that some rooms boast views of the river. These rooms are subject to availability and at a surcharge. The Royal Brasserie serves dinner daily between 17:00 and 20:30. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast from 07:30 until 10.00 Monday to Friday, and 10:30 at weekends. Booking a table for breakfast and dinner on arrival is essential. Parking is pre-bookable only (height restrictions apply)and carries a nightly supplement. When the hotel car park is full or closed due to flooding, you can use a nearby public parking facility. Alternative National Car Parks parking is located 200 yards from the property and costs GBP 27 per 24 hours. Please specify the total number of guests and the children's age when booking family rooms. You can note this in the Special Requests box. Please note the room can accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children. Please note during January and February evening service may be reduced. ian (5/5): Problem with the room spoilt our visit - Good location in the city centre, with onsite parking which is useful, perfect if going to the Grand Opera House, something we have done a number of times. Unfortunately there was a problem with our room, there was a fairly audible humming noise from the room electrical distribution board. When I reported this to reception nothing could be done until the following day and no alternative room was available, the result was a pretty disturbed night's sleep.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. There is nothing for here from us

Paul (10/5): An excellent location for exploring York on foot! - The location of the Queens Hotel was perfect for exploring York on foot. Our accomodations were very clean and comfoirtable. Our room was spacious. The bed was very comforatable. We had a great view of the city and river from our room. The staff were very kind and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. We were very pleased. The building itself has a few quirks related to its age, but the city itself is extremely old and that is part of its charm. We loved being in the heart of the city. Thank you, Queens Hotel!

Alison (7/5): Great location - The location is brilliant. A short walk into city centre, supermarkets and bars close by. The breakfast was excellent all freshly cooked, area nice and clean. Also choices for vegetarians at breakfast, including scrambled eggs, bean and mushrooms. The male receptionist, apologies, I didn't get his name, was lovely and very helpful, the lift was out of order and he took our cases up to our room. The bathroom was dated and needs upgrading and brighter lights. Whilst the male receptionist was lovely and helpful, and the staff manning the breakfast area. The other receptionists came across as unhelpful and giving you the feeling that everything was an inconvenience. On the whole the hotel is in a great location, and despite some of the staff, I would say for its location its definitely worth booking.
Nicholas (5/5): Nice Hotel with good staff, but it is so tired, Over priced too. - The location of the Hotel to the centre of York was brilliant, and for having mobility problems it was a short walk to anywhere, The hotel had a nice bar and lounge area with views over the river,Which was great, and the breakfast was brilliant, with a fantastic selection of breakfast things. It was good also that after you had finished eating breakfast you could sit in the lounge area and have maybe another brew or read the paper, before heading out, which was really nice, and meant you were not rushed out to start your day, very relaxed On the Sunday before i arrived, I phoned the hotel to check payment had gone thru and despite it saying there was a lift to all floor to check there was, The receptionist on the phone told me that payment had gone thru and That I was on the 1st floor, but the lift had broken down and should be fixed by Tuesday. We arrived on Tuesday to find that the lift was still faulty and that there were even stairs up to reception, There was a disabled lift to get to reception, but it was a bit fiddly to use as quiet an old unit. A reception I asked when the lift would be fixed and I was told Wednesday, but now we had been moved to the 2nd floor and there was no other rooms on the lower floors. I am disabled, having had a serious RTA and on my 2nd hip replacement and waiting for a Knee surgery as a result. The stairs were a killer and it took me a good five mins to get to the 2nd floor. My wife and I decided to have a cup of tea in the room and then venture out, or other wise I would have been stuck in the room till the next day. I have to say, doing the stairs totally did me me in, it was easier to go back down later, but we then had to stay out to much later in the evening so I only had to climb them once more. On the Wednesday, the lift had still not been fixed, so we made the decision to go down for breakfast and I would stay downstairs till we went out for the day, so i only had to navigate the stairs as fewer times as possible, while my wife would go back and forth to the room to get our bits and bob`s. We returned about 6.00ish and after a day slowly walking around York the stairs felt like the North face of the Igor and I was totally exhausted when i got to the room, for me that was may day over as I could not face the trip back down, and my wife had, again to nip a fetch things for me. It was a relief to check out on the Thursday, and I asked to speak to the manager about the lift issue which was now being fixed to explain my frustration, and she did give me a refund.

Lynn (8/5): Great location for exploring the city of York and riverside. - The location was excellent and our river view room had a lovely view. The onsite parking was a real bonus. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. There was an extra bed in our room which we didn’t book or need and that cut down the space in our river view room.

Selina (8/5): Very nice - would recommend though I think the price could be brought down a little. - The room was lovely and large - lots of room. It was nice and clean (other than what appeared to be coffee drips down the bathroom door frame). The bed was comfortable. The TV was great and easy to use. The shower and bath were lovely and hot. Breakfast was very nice (esp the fried bread). Location was fantastic, right by the river and just a wee short walk over the bridge into the City centre. Car park was easy to use although the shutter being the only access was a very slight inconvenience, however, I was allowed to leave my car longer than booked on the day of departure so that was a huge bonus for me. The bedding was thin and lumpy and the bed was not made very well (bottom sheet was not tucked in behind the pillows and the valance was all squashed up on the left hand side). I was in Room 51 and there seems to be a slight blockage between the sink drain and the bath drain, as when you ran the sink tap, the water would travel up the drain and appear in the bath!! I think the rooms would benefit from a small fridge (especially in the summer months). There was a lot of condensation on the windows which could do with replacing.

The window was not able to be locked, there was a large dent in the bathroom door, the sink plug had scum on it, the curtain sash was just about ro come away from the wall. They had a lovely deck near the dining room with a sign saying dont open the door. Why would you not open the door to let some fresh air in?

The location is perfect, within close walking distance of anywhere worth visiting in York! The internet signal was very weak. I didn’t use it much except for researching places to visit in York but for those moments, it was quite intermittent.

jeff (8/5): Stay was good apart from items mentioned above - In self catering apartment,the location for town congresses good. The bed/ mattress was very uncomfortable,also the bed was to close to ceiling near the dormer window making it hazardous getting out of bed. There is an issue with the hot water,even though there are "caution hot water signs" I think it's dangerous especially for children ,surely the thermostat could be turned down on the boiler which could save money

Should offer better rates for hotel guests. I will be looking around for better deals in York next time. Walls are paper thin too. Could hear TV and people snoring in other rooms close by.

Andy (5/5): Great Location, but a bit basic - The room size was good, the hotel was nice and clean, and the location was amazing Bathroom - We booked a room for 2 adults and 1 baby, but were only supplied with two sets of towels. The largest towels were "Medium" rather than Large towels. There were also minimal extras. What would have improved the score was shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, etc. Bedroom - There was nothing in the way of a fridge to keep anything in (which is pretty important when you have a baby).

Alec (9/5): The Hotel is an excellent choice as its central with adequate facilities for a pleasant stay in York - We used the car park and was able to arrive at 12 noon. The added bonus was that our rooms were ready. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Breakfast always a winner! Everything was great from start to finish.

nicecuppa_12 (2/5): Disappointing & unwelcoming - Disappointing and very unwelcoming, reception staff not at all friendly, had a query on arrival didn't seem at all interested, asked a couple of times for door to be opened to go to my car and got a grunt and a sigh, all he had to do was press a button! Whilst the public areas were clean and tidy the rooms were not. Very tired and run down rooms, rips in bed cover, bathrooms grubby, chipped, mould, rusty, fan was incredibly noisy and did nothing as you can see from photo. Nowhere to put suitcase, the most uncomfortable bed and the pillows should have been thrown out years ago. Sad as I first came here 23 years ago when it was a lovely Hotel and staff were courteous and helpful, but not now. It cost us almost £40 to park for 2 nights, on top of the incredibly inflated price was money grabbing....7 nights would cost almost £140! Breakfast staff...one member of staff kept stiring the scrambled egg as it had 'set' and 'tidying' the toast but just before was picking things of the floor and handling dirty plates etc. We paid extra for a Superior room number 48, it was a joke to call it superior, the only good thing was the view. We have been many times but we won't be coming again, I did feel like asking for a refund! It surprises me there are any good reviews as there was a lot of grumbling going on amongst the guests. One thing I would like to say is one member of staff 'Flo' was exceptional compared to the rest, very professional and should be given some credit.

The apartment was large , very clean and had all the amenities we needed. Beds were comfortable , shower was great . There wasn’t anything we disliked about the property , if I had to say something negative , maybe it could be made a little brighter with a lick of paint .
