Location is perfect, close enough to walk to lots of things but far enough away for some peace when you want. Dunkin across the street was also a great perk! Parking lot was tight for a big truck.

Great service but a little deceiving with the ocean view since it wasn't in front of the ocean so I was disappointed on that matter

Jeannie (10/5): - We stay jere annually as we traverse down south. It's not for people looking for a super modern hotel. It is retro lovely Mom&Pop owned hotel. No elevator. Refreshing pool to cool off after a hot day on the beach. Ocean is steps away, Dunkin donuts a few steps away and a really great Mexican restaurant locally owned around the corner on Pacific. The infamous Pocahontas Pancakr House is a couple blocks away for a very kitchy breakfast experience... very busy. The room can get a bit musty, as is the case dealing with a very humid summer. We love the balcony facing the ocean but not on the ocean.

Angel (10/5): Cutty Sark T1 - Our family has stayed in T1 for 4-5 years in a row. We can't find anything similar. We spend most of our time on the front screened porch. It has 2 rocking chairs to enjoy the ocean beach view and a large picnic table with a chandelier for all meals. There's a table inside too but we enjoy the outdoors with the ocean view. This year we noticed the flood light constantly on from the building next door. It shines through the main bedroom all night/week.It's still one of my family's all time favorite vacation memory spots.

Cronshey (5/5): We had a nice view of the ocean. - location was great Parking is not good. They don't have enough parking spaces. Our room was clean, but the mattress needs to be replaced. And making a bed using a flat sheet instead of a fitted sheet causes issues when trying to sleep but you keep sliding into the center of the bed because the mattress sags in the center. I tried checking in with the office to get another sheet, but there wasn't anyone in the office. There was no daily housekeeping.

Ginger (10/5): - The room was definitely stuck in a time warp, but it was spotless and super comfy—like your grandma’s house if she were a neat freak with a passion for fluffy pillows. We stayed on the 3rd floor, and while there’s no elevator (cue the unexpected leg workout), it was totally worth it just to sit on the balcony, watch dolphins flipping around like they were on break from SeaWorld, and enjoy a front-row seat to a dramatic thunderstorm. Bonus entertainment: watching beachgoers sprint for their lives like it was a scene from Baywatch: Thunderstorm Edition. Pure comedy gold. The pool was just the right size for a refreshing dip after pretending we were in a fitness montage during our long beach walk. The staff? Genuinely delightful. Like “makes-you-want-to-hug-a-stranger” kind of nice. The only drawback was the parking situation. The few spots connected to the hotel were tighter than a pair of jeans after vacation snacks, and pretty limited. They do offer additional parking in two other nearby lots, but they’re across the street—and if you're bringing everything you own for a week-long stay, expect a mini workout just getting to your room. Still, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat—and I've already told my friends they need to check it out.

Very nice 'old-time' atmosphere in the room, yet there is everything that one needs. The staff (I talked to two different members) both went extra mile for me - that was very appreciated! I could not really figure out how to make the iron work in the room, but it got figured out in the end.

Creedence (5/5): Facilities could have been cleaner and more thought out. Overall not terrible for location and cost. - Overall not bad for the price. Staff was okay some were great and friendly others had a pretty terrible attitude. The elevators were sketchy at best best to just take the stairs. Power cut off first night there for a few hours but didn't have a problem after that. The showers barely drained and had sand in it and when we ordered room service they just changed the sheets and swept the floor the shower was still sandy and didn't drain well. Also the soap dispensers has mold and stuff around the seems. Housekeeping could be much more through. The mattress looked new we checked the whole thing for bugs and couldn't see anything. There were no stains either but also didn't have a protective cover on it just a few sheets which of you go when it's a bit chilly are very very thin. The tv had like 6 stations with no guide so you had to just flip and hope. You can bring a console or fire stick to connect though the wifi isn't bad. The good was the location and price. Walking distance to alot of beaches if ones crowded walk a few hundred feet down and it will be completely empty. Restaurants were pretty good in the area along with shopping. The free kayaks, bikes, and stand up paddle board with the private beach inlet and pool was what made this worth it imo. We kayaked around the bay and got to see 4 or so dolphins enjoying the morning. The pool is nice the walls and floor is very rough and will skin your feet and knees if you hit to hard. Would like that to be fixed. The breakfast is mid at best. Biscuits, eggs, sausage, cereal, waffle mix and the maker, and oatmeal. That's about it. If your not down there at 7:30 you'll get whatever is left which won't be much. They let familys pretty much take as much as they want which is annoying. I get feeding your family and kids but taking almost all the food is insane.
Douglas (9/5): Quaint paradise with lots of space - Mrs.Johnsons cottage was amazing! TONS of room and it was spotless. We loved it. The bathtub is deep to step into. Wasn't a problem for us but anyone with mobility issues, you have to step down in. We did see a few tiny ants in the bathroom one morning but it was immaculately clean. There was a LOT of glass items on the table and around the place so not great for small children to have these items out but we had all teenagers. Definitely will book here again!

Molded shower curtain , the rules say don’t eat or drink in the bed but the bedding was already stained ! I understand the historic part but you still have to update and maintain it ! I don’t think the duct tape holding the chair together was historic .

Tina (8/5): Great location, loved the kitchenette and quite a pleasant place to stay. - Location. The place was quiet, though so close to the street, we heard the traffic all night. Other than that, great view and big balcony was good. Parking. Because it I'd in a tight location there isn't much parking available once they filled the rooms.
Kelly (8/5): It was a nice get away and it is lovely see a motel stay true to itself. The owner was a sweetheart - I loved the way it was kept original, I met the owner and a few of the front desk personnel. Wonderful Location for the price. We did find a bug in our bathroom. Not sure what kind it was. I understand that the building is old and that is difficult to keep bugs out.
Jingjing (8/5): Perfect Honeymoon Week. - The location is perfect. This was our honeymoon trip and we loved it. The room has everything we needed, including a kitchen. Loved the vibe of the room. Like we were back to 1960s. Room was clean and had a balcony!! We loved it so much that we extended it for one more night!! Liked everything. Wish there was a baking tray but that was not a big deal!

Bryan (10/5): Awesome, I we loved it. - Awesome location north of Virginia Beach where it is quieter. For us it was perfect, quiet, near transportation, close enough to the busier part of the beach if you wanted to go. Nearby restaurants and a Dunkin' Donuts right around the corner. The place we rented had a full kitchen, which we used but walked for dinner and breakfast a couple times. We loved it. It was a charming rental and I plan on staying there again. What is not to like.

Small hotel with a dated vibe but very clean and will stay again the next time I go to VB.

Hopper (7/5): Excellent location. Great family run place. Love the art deco, retro vibe. - The kitchenette is great for in room food prep including a microwave, stove top and an oven, we made pizza. There's a coffee maker, but you bring your own, no free coffee on site. There's a Dunkin Donuts on the block as well. Totally family run, which we love, not a big resort lover. Art Deco retro style totally dug, but some would say 'needs updating'. The decor is definitely selected with a retro intention, we dig it. Stairs, no elevator, but we are ok with that. Quiet place. Summer you can see the sun rise right from the balcony, albeit it's not on the boardwalk, which is across the avenue. With the extreme summer heat, the room does not cool down below 78/80, but it was comfy for us. The bed had a dip in the middle, could use replacing.

James (8/5): Would use again. - The location was good. The room was exactly what we wanted, and is as advertised. We did find a dead roach, it being dead shows they spay often, and we saw many while in the area so it wasn't their fault for them. The bed was very bouncy and mildly comfortable. The virginia beach has a roach problem and they can really do much unless they want to contaminate waterways.

No refund was available. on the ocean. but no refund was - I thought the property was on the ocean because my room was noted as “ocean view” but it was across the street from the ocean. There was no elevator and my room was on the 3rd floor. There was no onsite parking. I was told I would need to cross the street and go behind a house to park.

Jacqueline (8/5): Cute, retro and clean. Great value for your money. - The room was cute and clean. We had a queen bed with a pullout couch. My adult daughter stayed in the pullout couch, it was a bit soft for her liking, but she still slept well. The location was very convenient and we had a great view of the ocean from our corner room. We bought breakfast food and used the refrigerator for our breakfast meals. There was a stove, microwave and a coffee maker. We did not use any of those appliances. The location is easy walking distance to the beach, dunkin donuts was across the street and parking was included for our car and easy to access. Be prepared that the room is not sound proof from the people walking and driving outside. We live in a city so were very used to that type of noise. If road noises bother you, then either bring ear plugs or don't stay here. The noise did not bother us at all, but it is noticeable. We would definitely stay here again.

Carol (9/5): We wanted to avoid the crowds and parties often found at big hotels, Cutty Sarks was perfect. - We were passing through VA Beach for a one night stay and I wanted to avoid the noise and bustle of the big hotels. I liked Cutty Sark because it was a small, quiet motel on the water with a balcony, ocean view, and had a pool. It was walkable to the beach, restaurants and sites. The room was very clean and spacious! We loved the vintage feel. The pool is small but was perfect for cooling down at the end of the day. The queen size bed, although very soft, sank my husband and I to the middle. I ended up sleeping on the couch. This particular mattress would be best for one person or an snuggly young couple! Otherwise we loved the room and the location can’t be beat.

Jonathan (10/5): City Sark VA beach - Cottages were just fine for us. A bit small and dated, but that being said we weren't there to sit inside for three days. The couple who owns the property were very nice and welcoming. We will stay here again. Approximately a 1 minute walk from beach front and conveniently located within very short walking distance of tons of restaurants and shops.
