Guest Reviews
- Faye (10/5): A wonderful, calm stay - We loved our stay here. A very calm environment, very helpful staff, delicious food from the restaurant and an extremely comfortable room and beds
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent location for wildlife . - Set in wonderful location with its own trail The property was perfect , if I was being very picky I would have liked a pool
- Arturo (9/5): - Breakfast: very good products.
Location: just outside of the city, in the middle of the nature.
Restaurant: great view at sunset nothing
- Samuel (6/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Peaceful Monteverde lodge - The rooms were large, comfortable and had an excellent view. The bathroom was also nice and had a great strong shower. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet - there was always lots of food available. They also allowed us to change our booking despite it being non refundable. Not anything really!
- Aurelie (10/5): - Great People, great project, amazing view, nice with kids... we loved our stay!
- Fiona McP (9/5): Quiet, Comfortable, Relaxed Vibe - We stayed four nights in the new annex (just opened this year) and loved the view, decor, and comfortable beds. It was peaceful and quiet—exactly what we wanted. Housekeeping staff were visible but unobtrusive, and the chickens reminded us we were on a farm!
Breakfast was included on a 2-day rotation. The fresh yogurt with farm honey was delicious, and both room and restaurant coffee were excellent and replenished daily. The wood-fired pizza was unbelievably good. We enjoyed every meal we ate there. The restaurant staff were delightful, service-oriented, and remembered our preferences after two days.
We met lovely tourists with the same relaxed vibe and enjoyed sunset Happy Hour nightly. We ate dinner there three of four nights, because it was so good and so convenient! Highlights included a jungle walk on premises where we saw leaf-cutter ants, an easy drive to Monteverde Cloud Forest Park (spotted a quetzal, tarantula, and howler monkeys), and the neighbouring Butterfly Garden with beautiful Blue Morphos. It's a 9/10—not perfect due to occasional sewage smell from the pond near the annex (see photo). We caught occasional whiffs on the balcony in our room, second-nearest the pond. Not overpowering or unbearable, but noticeable for those accustomed to odourless environments (suburbanites, perhaps?). Bar service during happy hour was sometimes slow, but we weren't in a hurry and still received the discount price even if drinks arrived late.
- Bryan (10/5): - The room was very nice with a balcony. The restaurant had an amazing sunset view. The hiking trails were really nice and the hammock area on the trails was very relaxing. Very convenient location in Monteverde and close to a lot of nearby restaturants. (Visited the Treehouse restaraunt in Monteverde- check it out).
- Christine M (9/5): Valle Escondido hotel and farm - a treasure! - I loved everything about this hotel, including the unpretentiousness of a higher rated hotel. The use of permaculture in their farm to table was visibly evident and the educational component unique and well done. I am excited to build this practice on my own 6 acres. Not much to not like! Sometimes the staff was exceptionally friendly but some staff fell a little flat but that is not a reason to not stay here!
- Alex (9/5): Great hotel with a lovely nature reserve - The property is lovely, so many animals around - the kids loved spotting the coatis and lizards as we walked to and from our room! The nature reserve is great to explore and we did the night hike through the hotel as well which was amazing. Loved the bar and the happy hour! It was great to be able to sit and enjoy the sunset with a happy hour drink while the kids played on the bikes and scooters the hotel has available. Breakfast was probably one of the weakest we had in the whole of our stay in Costa Rica. I constantly had to ask plates as they seemed never to be available at the buffet and the choices were very limited. Surprising as we had dinner in the hotel one night and the offerings were excellent.
- Edith (10/5): - Sehr geräumiges, schönes Zimmer mit Super Aussicht. Tiere überall auf der Anlage. Frühstücksbuffet. Freundliches Personal.
- Jan (9/5): -
- Anuradha (8/5): -
- Otto (10/5): Muy lindo -
- CRB (8/5): Beautiful location but staff attitude did not match. - The location is beautiful with wonderful views over the valley. We also loved the short nature walks on the property where we saw monkeys and other wildlife. The room was comfortable and well set out. We don't understand why the staff on reception were so unfriendly. The restaurant onsite was convenient but we were told there were no bookings available between 7 to 8pm. We turned up at 7.45 and the place was near empty. Food was expensive and the pasta dish was very small.
- Lídia (10/5): -
- MIA (10/5): -
- Jacek (9/5): Toll - Lage Frühstück, dusche im zimmer
- Cathell (10/5): - Perfect location! Wonderful staff.
- Thilo (9/5): -
Zimmer etwas altmodisch.
Die Spaghetti mit Pesto waren scheußlich.
- Hans (10/5): -
- Stephanie (5/5): Area outside the room was great. Room itself could use updating. - Beautiful views! Great communal area with some trails to explore. Staff was very nice and the restaurant had great service and food. Our room was very dated with a wobbly bunk bed. We also had ants in our room and could not open any food or leave any food wrappers in the garbage.
We liked that there was a mini fridge in the room.
- Ivana (8/5): -
- DAVID (10/5): Fun fun - So much fun
- Trisha (10/5): - My family and I loved this property and wished we had more time here. We loved everything about this hotel! The farm to table food, friendly staff, comfortable room, amazing shower, and beautiful views. We definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again in a heart beat.
- Vanessa (8/5): -
- Viviana (9/5): Lovely place surrounded by nature - Lovely location
Quite surroundings and amazing trails
Beautiful views to the Golfo De Nicoya
- Xu (9/5): -
- Marta (8/5): Excellent location, personnel could do better. - Exceptional location. Personnel could be more helpful. Especially restaurant needs improvement ( poor menu and execution).
- Gracie (9/5): - Valle Escondido offers wonderful views of Monteverde and the cloud forest. The rooms are very comfortable and a good size. The trails behind the hotel are really fun to explore and we enjoyed the happy hour at the bar each evening.
- Lisa (6/5): Food and location was good bedrooms need AC - The food was fantastic! The night walk was fun and hiking trails on site were great! NO AC or TV in the rooms. Our ceiling fan would only go at maximum speed it sounded like a helicopter we didn’t sleep well for our stay it was very hot or very breezy and loud. The shower had no enclosure making the whole bathroom wet and extremely slippery.
- Sofie Lindgaard (9/5): -
- Rus (8/5): Great for kids and families, close to nature and wildlife - Very family friendly, lots of children and families. Surrounded by nature and animals. Breakfast was good, the restaurant in general was decent. The rooms vary in quality. Some are a very good standard. It’s a 20min walk from town, which was very quiet, not much going on - maybe 10mins to the closest supermarket. By the older rooms there was sometimes a smell of the toilets that was pretty bad.
- Lukas (9/5): Schöner und erholsame Unterkunft. - Eigenes Reservat mit schönen Trails. Ein Fenster im Badezimmer wäre super.
- Utpal (8/5): -
- Faye (10/5): I loved it - Concept and sustainability Nothing
- Javier (9/5): A great place in a great location - The fact that it’s within a natural reserve, is a differentiated attribute. The shower is one of those with a “half door” tempered glass setup, therefore there’s no door seal. Water inevitably trickles out and floods part of the bathroom during shower.
- Yael (9/5): Beautiful Stay with Stunning Views and Fresh Food - The property is beautiful with a relaxed, farm-style feel that isn’t overly fancy. The beds were very comfortable, and the views were absolutely stunning. The room is spacious, and both the common areas and the restaurant are beautifully designed. The grass area is very fun for the kids. Overall, the setting and atmosphere made for a wonderful stay.
Another highlight is that they grow their own herbs and vegetables, so everything feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I really appreciated the healthy menu options, and the chicken soup was absolutely amazing. Breakfast offers a very simple but sufficient selection. The issue was that it wasn’t well managed, and items were not set out or refilled on time throughout the entire time we were there.
Dinner at restaurant was only ok, the chicken soup was amazing!
Another issue was that our smoke alarm went off three times during the night. It wouldn’t stop, and there was no one at the front desk to assist. We were told we could go to the security guard, but walking outside in the dark in pajamas didn’t feel like a reasonable solution. They should also have a reliable way to communicate with guests during the night.
- Cathelijne (8/5): -
- Marta (8/5): Ubicación y las vistas muy buenas. - La ubicación y las vistas. Las habitaciones son un poco antiguas .
- Abhijit (8/5): Amazing stay - Beautiful location and surroundings
- Chris (10/5): Lovely eco friendly nature retreat! - Incredible setting! Nature trails onsite with spectacular views. Loved the farm to table garden and all the eco friendly features.
- Shinya (8/5): -
- Raimon (8/5): Un racó preciós de Monteverde. - L’harmonia i l’estil eco. Esmorzar justet.
- Jean Julien (9/5): -
- Richard (7/5): Nice resort and the focus on the environment and nature was a bit different for us. Recommended for families. - Focus on the environment and nature. Rooms were nice and staff all friendly too. Breathtaking views and sunsets. The restaurant had a limited variety on the menu and we decided to eat out after 2 days.
- Jelle (10/5): Prachtige plek. Absolute aanrader!
- AMOL ASHOK (10/5): - The entire experience of staying there is awesome.
- Markus (10/5): -
- Will (8/5): - Prachtige omgeving en rustige ligging.
- Nadine (9/5): Great relaxing hotel in nature! - Location was beautiful with lots of trails acces during the day. The hotel grounds were wonderful as well as the rooms with large balconies overlooking nature. Very relaxing location. Shower in our room was an issue; water had problems draining properly. The breakfast was simple and at 0830AM when we came in, there was nothing left, even though there was still 30 min left to the breakfast period. We had to ask for coffee cups, more eggs, etc. The restaurant menu was limited and the service was not very efficient.
- Patricia (10/5): - This property is truly exceptional. We really enjoyed walking the various trails. There is a spectacular view from the terrace of the valley and hills below all the way to the Pacific. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we were made to feel very welcome.
- Javier Mariano (9/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): Gorgeous property with hiking trails and the best view in Monteverde - The photos on booking don't do this hotel justice. First of all, the view is absolutely jaw-dropping; people come from all over Monteverde to catch sunsets from the reception/restaurant area. Secondly, the property itself spans a lot of land (44 acres, if I remember correctly), complete with beautiful hiking trails, a self-guided permaculture tour, and on-site amenities like yoga classes and an incredible restaurant. It's technically possible to walk to several off-site restaurants and shops, about 15 minutes, and it's a short ~20-minute cab to Monteverde's "town" area. (We did not have a car, so hotel called us cabs whenever we needed one to get around, which came promptly and seemed reasonably priced.)
The room itself was clean and comfortable. Nice shower with hot water. Mini-fridge for storing any groceries and a safe for valuables. Comfy beds and solid, well-made furniture. We really appreciated the emphasis on sustainability that was evident in every detail.
We took a night tour with one of the staff on site and saw some cool critters! My only regret is that we did not have longer to hike the extensive system of trails directly on the property.
What a cool place, would definitely come back! Nothing, everything was great.
- Gordon (10/5): Wonderful - Reception staff, restaurant staff, views, trails Transportation from the airport -,expensive! Why isn’t there a public transit option or a group shuttle?
- Jenna (10/5): -
- Esther (8/5): - Eigener Wald, Aussicht vom Zimmer wunderbar.
- Kesav (7/5): Good nature oriented experience - Breakfast was great. The view from the hotel yard and the trails are fantastic. Friendly staff. The rooms are spacious but don’t expect luxury. This is a natural setting, beware of keeping doors open at night as the bugs will be attracted to light. In our rooms bugs were on the ceiling and on the pillows, the staff attempted to remove bugs. Of course, the hotel is designed for nature. So the vibe is more nature and minimalistic, just be prepared mentally then you will have a great experience. We also stayed in Belmar, that provided both nature and luxury.
- Tjeerd (10/5): Eco friendly and fun place to stay with awesome views. - Great hiking, good food, clean comfortable rooms.
- Jeanette (8/5): -
- David (10/5): Once we arrived, we didn't want to leave - The view from our room was amazing. We could see the sun set over the Pacific Ocean in the distance. We took advantage of the Permaculture tour and the evening bird watching tour, both onsite. Their onsite farm produces 35% of all the food for the restaurant -- we ate all our meals onsite. Once we arrived, we didn't want to leave. Nothing could be better!
- Alison (7/5): Beautiful views! - The view from the front lawn is exquisite, and we were lucky enough to have that same view from one of our rooms. The second room, which was actually more expensive, was behind reception down a dark path and had no view at all. It was a larger space, but it was definitely a worse room. We wish we had booked two of the less expensive ones which had much better natural light! We really appreciated the kindness of the staff overall and that they made me corn tortillas at breakfast as I'm gluten free. The restaurant is all outdoors so we were quite cold...
- Markus (10/5): Tolle Unterkunft in Monteverde.
- Jill (9/5): Nice place, very family friendly. - Beautiful property on a reserve. Many trails and activities on site. The pizza was delicious! Some of the service in the restaurant is not as not great. We were seated and then 5 other tables were seated and given drinks and orders taken before anyone helped us.
- Anton (10/5): Unforgettable Views and Farm-to-Table Magic – A Must-Stay in Monteverde - This is an incredibly cool hotel and farm with a massive, beautiful territory. Because the property is situated on a hill, it offers an unbelievable view of the Pacific Ocean. The restaurant is the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious dinner while watching one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen.
I loved the "farm-to-table" concept—they grow their own vegetables and spices right on-site for the restaurant. The property also features excellent hiking trails and various observation decks with stunning views of waterfalls.
The rooms are great and equipped with everything necessary for a very comfortable stay. Our only regret is that we only stayed for one night—this place deserves much more time! Nothing! Our stay was perfect.
- Julia (9/5): - El Hotel tiene vistas y senderos espectaculares.
- fiona (9/5): Immersed in nature - The location and the views were beautiful I felt the accommodation itself could have been decorated a little warmer, we were in the new building and I’m aware this is a matter of taste but as we were in such an amazing area full of wildlife I felt the rooms could reflect this a little more.
- Katherine (9/5): Beautiful vistas - Beautiful location, glorious sunsets, wonderful to walk around We did the night tour: we found it overpriced & we saw very little ( just a few insects), disappointing
- Shirish (8/5): Fantastic spot!!! - Breakfast was good. Location was extremely convenient and staff was so friendly and helpful!
- giedre (10/5): Central location, close to hikes, parks. Eco hotel that really conects you with rainforest nature. Has a lovely farm to - Location, atmosphere, amenities
