• hollyw797 (10/5): Tropical retreat adjacent to Volcanoes National Park. - This property is a gem. Our kid loved sleeping on the lanai/sunroom. The suite was spacious, beds were comfortable. The whole space was very clean, and had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious. The proximity to the National park was ideal. We stayed in the Punawai Hale. We loved it.
• Jason (10/5): - The accommodations were terrific, a great value in superb location for visiting Volcanoes National Park and Hilo area. Spacious, comfortable beds. Host was very accommodating by offering to deliver to-go breakfasts as we had an early morning flight. I recommend the Lanikai Brewing Co for dinner if you stay here- the best food we ate in Hawaii for adults and kids- also great beer and excellent cocktail lists with low-key come as you are feel (i.e. sweatpants).
• Patricia (10/5): - Great B&B! Owner had prompt communication and provided several helpful tips. Loved having an our own private Hale which was outfitted with all the essentials including comfortable King bed. Kitchenette had mini-fridge with freezer. toaster-oven & microwave, coffee & tea in the room plus custom ordered breakfast (egg sandwich, omelette, or waffles) that came with a delicious papaya fruit bowl delivered to the room. We enjoyed being on the edge of town. So quiet!! And, only 10mins to Volcanos Nat Park which was excellent location when the eruption started at 2am!! This is a mini-ranch with many adorable animals( ducks, chickens, goats, sheep, donkey etc) You can even arrange to feed them. If you’re not an animal lover, be aware, but we really enjoyed the rural setting and watching all the critters while eating breakfast. We even had a goat kid on the hood of our car one morning. So cute! There’s a large manual gate to maneuver as you drive in & out and also a stone/dirt driveway which could be challenging for anyone with walking instability. We loved everything about our stay at Volcano Acres Ranch!
• Zeeba (10/5): - I had a really great experience at this B&B on a beautiful ranch, the host was incredibly accommodating, even with my last minute booking. She was out of town and made sure everything was ready upon our arrival and that we had everything we needed. She went above and beyond. She even shared with me where she purchased some of the beautiful decorations, which I really appreciated. The place was clean, stylish and comfortable... I would definitely stay here again!
• Jeffrey (10/5): - Unique farmhouse property with a lovely sunporch overlooking the pond and farm. Surrounded by friendly goats and assorted geese, ducks, chickens, roosters, farm cats and a pig nicknamed “Vlad the Destroyer”. Great freshly-made breakfasts, too.

She helped us understand how to see the volcano eruption and even went out of her way to wake up other guests to be sure they didn't miss it. She has thought of everything including "junk" towels to clean up shoes after hiking. The breakfasts were delicious, and the papaya boats were excellent. The location near the volcano is convenient too. Excellent. Planning my return trip already

• Matt (4/5): - Understanding this is a working farm we did not expect it to be 5 star. However, when we opened the door it was very musty and smelled like no one had been in there for quite some time. The bedding felt like it was not entirely clean either plus the 2nd night found what appeared to be mice droppings in our daughter's bed. Also the rooster started saying good morning at 1am, then 3am and 5am. The breakfast was basically ordered from a to go place and was below average in our opinion. From the description we thought it was home made with fresh juice, etc....very far from that. Overall, this may be good for some people but we would not stay here again. Also, never met the host which is odd at a B&B.

• babylesliecan (6/5): Adequate - We stayed in the converted barn bungalow for three nights in March and have to say that Jo N’s review from the same month resonates with us. It was off-putting to be greeted by roosters and their poop surrounding the entrance to our bungalow. The interior was very nicely decorated and comfortable, but a thorough cleaning of the sunroom and behind the furniture is in order. (We had to move the dresser out to plug in a medical device and the area was extremely dusty.) There was almost no interaction with the host and the breakfast was underwhelming, except for the large papaya halves filled to the brim with fresh fruit. Nice also to have good coffee and a coffee maker. [If you want fantastic take-away for lunch or dinner and like Thai food, do not miss Auntie Pon’s Thai Food Truck (see Yelp). Outstanding food and awesome service!] On the plus side, the ranch is very close to Volcanos National Park and our host was kind enough to text us about the latest eruption and encourage us to get to the park early since she knew it would be crowded. That was very nice especially since the eruptions were relatively frequent but hard to predict during the couple of days we were in the area.

The place is very convenient to get to the park and the breakfast was delicious. Our 2 room accommodations worked great for our family of 4. My kids keep asking when we can go back.
• 587jon (6/5): It’s Doable - Once we dodged all the poop, and entered the cottage, we were pleasantly surprised. That being said, the entire unit could use a deep cleaning. The windows are very dirty and full of spiderwebs. Maybe that’s intentional as the view is dismal

• icyfresh (10/5): Cozy, family friendly stay near Volcanoes NP - I’ve stayed at Volcano Acres Ranch on three separate occasions (friends trip, couples trip and family trip) and each visit has been wonderful. Theresa ensures we have everything we need to be comfortable. Breakfasts with egg sandwich, waffles or omelet with a papaya bowl are delicious. Chickens, ducks, goats, pig and donkey out back are so fun especially for kids! And staying 10 mins outside Volcanoes NP was a huge plus for checking out Kīlauea at night and beating the crowds in the morning. Thank you for another great stay.

She did everything to make sure we had a pleasant stay. My kids loved all the animals. It was so fun to wake up to them and watch them play with each other outside. I would recommend this highly to anyone staying over by the volcanos with a family.

We had booking the glamping unit, but because of water issues Theresa switched us to the Bungalow, which was so cosy. She agreed alternative breakfast arrangements as we had to leave early on checkout. We only had time to meet the chickens and ducks at the doorstep, but we saw the donkey and goats sheltering from the rain! I would definitely recommend staying here if you're making a trip to Volcano NP.
• Jeff (10/5): - I don't usually write a lot of reviews, but I specifically came back to this booking that we had in April of 2022 because I've thought about it so much since that stay. This was possibly the most unique setting I've ever had the pleasure of staying at; this was a hobby farm filled with free-range animals that wandered all over the grounds. The portion the owner uses as a visitor space is a wonderful little apartment attached to one of their outbuildings. It had views of the pond and all the animals, yet we felt completely left alone (in a good way!) We had a wonderful night's sleep away from the bustle of town. If you're looking for a unique experience in Hilo I'd highly recommend this incredible property. They made us breakfast the following morning and it was wonderful. We only stayed one night so I can't comment on a lot of the hospitality outside of the breakfast we had, but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it would all be equally great. Fair warning; there is not much to do in the town of Volcano, so I'd suggest packing snacks and drinks if you're planning to stay for more than a few days. One other fair warning: This is in the rain forest; you may encounter muddy terrain so be careful if you have a cheapo rental car. We had a Jeep and had no issues. If you want a really neat experience with good hosts, don't hesititate to book this property.

The room was clean, and the kitchen and bathroom had everything you’d need (and more)! We enjoyed all the animals and the tranquil atmosphere. We also enjoyed the breakfast each morning. It was delicious and portions were large. The papaya was amazing! Theresa is a fantastic host. Clearly works hard to make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. If you’re looking for a beautiful, natural, reasonably-priced place to stay near the volcanoes, this place is great!!

• Myriam (10/5): - Great place to stay. It was fun to see the animals on the property. The breakfast was delicious and had several options. We stayed in the cabin and it was very well equipped, even had a great toilet and shower. The cabin itselt was complete with a comfortable bed and warm covers and a large quantity of flashlights. During cloud-free nights, the sky is illuminated with stars.

Accommodations were beyond our expectations and feeding and interacting with the animals was such a special treat for the kids. The property is beautiful and peaceful and just what we needed. Theresa went above and beyond to provide a pack and play for my 1 year old, and even cut up our breakfast fruit extra small for the little ones. Breakfast was hot and delicious and such a treat for us as our first stay at a B&B. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes the farm/ranch vibes, and great for families with small kids too. Convenient location only 10 minutes from Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park.

• 881brenth (10/5): Great hospitality - Spent two nights at the Volcano acres ranch in Volcano, Hawaii. Teresa, our host, was welcoming and hospitable. Her breakfast were excellent. The fruit boat with the fruit confetti was some of the best we’ve had. Her love for her animals, and her ranch was plainly evident. The goats, the donkey, the chickens, and the ducks were all very entertaining, especially for our grandkids. Teresa even let them feed the animals one evening. Accommodations were very comfortable and warm. This is a great place to spend a couple of nights while at the Volcanoes National park. It’s just minutes away. Be aware that the village of Volcano, itself, rolls up the sidewalks by 8 PM :-).
• Mutandis (10/5): Animals galore - It may be more of a small holding than a ranch, but one thing’s for sure – you’re going to encounter plenty of farm animals at Volcano Acres Ranch B&B. We were absolutely charmed by all of the creatures. A particular favourite was Cinnamon, a resident goat. She has a habit of making her way through any open door and swiftly followed our suitcases into the back of our hire car as we prepared to depart (sorry Alamo!). The Ranch is at the furthest end of the village from most restaurants, but it makes little difference when driving. Volcano is certainly a convenient place to stay when visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It enabled us to make the most of our time in the Park and to avoid any crowds (for example, we made our way to the Thurston Lava Tube straight after breakfast and had it to ourselves). Our room at the Ranch was spacious, warm and comfortable. We had a conservatory overlooking the pond, which was a favourite place to relax before and after a visit to the National Park. Our hosts’ friendly welcome capped a very enjoyable stay in this unusual B&B.

• Jet271038 (10/5): Relaxing and fun location - We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast. It is minutes away from the Volcano National Park and not far from other attractions like Hilo or Papakolea Green Sand Beach. My husband and I stayed in the Ohia Ranch room. The location was quiet and private with lots of animals (goats, sheep, donkey, ducks, hens, etc.). It was fun to sit out on the balcony and watch the animals (or go down and pet them). The king bed was very comfortable and had a heated blanket on it as an option. There are lots of windows for great sunshine. Every morning, Theresa would bring a delicious breakfast to the room per your request/order. There is a table/chairs in the room to eat; plus the balcony has a small table. The breakfast omelets were incredible. Theresa also has many extras in the room like beach towels, robes, slippers, picnic basket, heating rack for towels and drinks. The information book had lots of ideas of where to go along with restaurant suggestions. We found all of them incredible. She also sent detailed instructions to get there. Overall, Theresa was a warm and wonderful host who helped us with any questions and offered great suggestions.

• Anthony (10/5): Excellent Place, but not for everyone - This place was great, but not for everyone. You need to be comfortable with being on a farm, with farm animals running wild. If you are this homey, rustic, comfortable stay is for you. We loved it for our two night stay. Great breakfast, gas fireplace/heater and private porch area overlooking a lake with chickens and ducks. Would stay here again. It was a unique experience. I'm glad we found this place.

Theresa provides a great selection for breakfast and delivered to our cabin. Comfortable bed, wonderful tiled shower, comfy sitting room to view the outside. Close to Volcano National Park. Very organized and has everything you need.
• Jean (10/5): - This bed and breakfast met and exceeded the expectations of my travel group of 4 ladies. The beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were fresh and tasty. We loved the fresh eggs and fresh fruits. We were able to interact with the animals which was offered as an option, and this was so much fun for our animal lovers. The facility accommodated our request for a last-minute change due to flight difficulties which was over and above what was expected. We definitely recommend this bed and breakfast and hope to visit again.

• KirstenL07 (10/5): Awesome! - This property is incredible! My family booked the Lehua Ranch Retreat and we were not disappointed. The LRR was much more spacious than we expected - the dining table has seating for 6 and there’s plenty of room to spread out and relax in the adjoining tv area. Our family of 3 was very comfortable for our entire stay. The breakfasts are amazing, especially the papaya boats. We enjoyed exploring the property and viewing all the friendly animals, some of whom accompanied us on our walks. We were especially taken with Cashew and Cinnamon, the goats. On our second day, Cinnamon tried to come along with us and jumped in our rental car! Theresa, our host, was always available to answer a question or chat, and even made sure we knew that Kilauea had begun to erupt again so that we could see it before departing. Overall, this place is awesome and we were all sad to leave. I highly recommend this property and hope to have the chance to stay there again in the future.
• Hikey (10/5): Look no further for a fantastic family experience! - Of all the places we stayed touring around the Big Island, this was the clear favorite! The Ohia room was plenty spacious for our family of 4 and beautifully furnished. Theresa was a wonderful host, provided lots of useful information about the area, and served a great hot breakfast cooked to order. The kids LOVED the animals, and Theresa spent a lot of time with us as we fed the goats and donkeys. The ranch is really well located, less than 7 minutes from Volcanoes National Park and Volcano Village. The only slight negatives for some people may be the early-morning rooster wakeup call and the fact that the extra beds (beyond the super comfortable king bed) in the Ohia suite are futons that are a bit lumpy. Overall, superb value for money and very memorable experience!

It's a fully finished in-law unit with a cozy sunroom overlooking the pond and a menagerie of adorable farm animals right outside our windows in a lush, tropical paradise!

Theresa greeted us when we got there and provided us with helpful information on things to see and do. The breakfast was amazing! We appreciated the many thoughtful touches like the heated blanket, heated towel rack, flashlight and umbrellas for visiting the park. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

• Margaret (10/5): A true hidden gem - It's a little disconcerting when you're told you'll be "in the barn", particularly when there's a covered car in front of it. Never fear, the unit was lovely with a comfy super-king bed with a heated mattress pad to chase away any chill. We managed to spend two rainy cold days there so the propane fireplace was welcome and made it cozy. What a surprise to find the pond just outside our covered lanai the next morning. Truly unique and perfectly placed to drive to Volcano National park.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Unique B&B - This b&b was a unique stay. It felt like you were in a treehouse with the lush trees and greenery surrounding you. Keep in mind that this is a farm so there are goats and chickens and roosters. It was pretty quiet except when the rooster crowed in the morning at sunrise. The couple was friendly and the breakfast was good.

Theresa and Randy provided an excellent experience with Volcano Acres Ranch. It was great getting to interact with the animals and have chats about our daily outings. They provide a wealth of information about the area and things to do from the various hiking areas within the Volcano Park, to Green Sand Beach, Akaka Falls, ...etc. The daily morning breakfast with the fresh papaya boats were wonderful. Our room had all of the amenities and then some like the heated towel rack and propane fireplace. This was one of my best vacations. I don't think my husband and I have been so happy on a vacation before as we were with this one. If you're looking for a place to stay away from the tourist areas, provides a more personal experience, and is near the National Volcano Park, this is it!

She even kept us informed of road conditions to make our flight. Pro tip: read the detailed and well written binder provided with the room, it has all the info on everything you want to do.

The weather is delightful-sunny, warm mornings and rainy, cool evenings, making sleeping with without AC and with open windows extremely comfortable. IMPORTANT-All prospective guests should be animal lovers. If you are not an animal lover you may not be thrilled with this property. We did not know this is a property that allows its livestock to roam freely until we arrived. Had we known we would definitely have made a different choice. It was impossible to avoid stepping in animal and fowl excrement when moving from the guest house to the car. Excrement is everywhere-including all over the car. The car was parked right next to the doorstep, but even then we could not avoid stepping in it.The chickens really like hanging out on the guest house doorstep. Also, both mornings the roosters started crowing at 3:56 a.m. (it is still completely dark at 3:56 a.m.) and did not stop until after the sun rose around 6. Unfortunately, there are multiple roosters that like to compete vocally with each other. Once the roosters started crowing the ducks, which seemed to like the area under our open window the best, started chiming in. Be forewarned-There is no sleeping past 3:56 a.m. at this B & B! We like animals, own pets and have children; but a 3:56 wake up, the plentiful excrement and the odor of fowl were too much for us-especially while on vacation.

We stayed in the room over looking the pond and had so much activity from the animals to enjoy in the morning but we had a very comfortable and quiet night. Every comfort you could think of was included including hot cocoa after our cold trip to see the “glow”, heated mattress, slippers, and a cozy fireplace. Though we couldn’t have breakfast with the other guests because of group size restrictions, our breakfast brought to our room and eaten in the sun room was an excellent and tasty adaptation. We definitely hope to be back.
