Guest Reviews
- Debra (8/5): - It's a budget hotel that has what you need. It isn't fancy, but it's a good place to stay on a budget. You'll have a good walk to get to the castle.
- Amanda (8/5): - An old hotel, but very clean and quiet.
- Laura (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff, clean hotel, and convenient location!
- Tammy (8/5): - Easily walkable from train station and about 30min walk to square. We arrived a couple hours early so room not ready and had to call to be let into building as no staff at front desk. Once in the staff was very friendly, spoke little English but we were able to communicate. We were able to store our bags, but they are just left out in open area. We were given our keys and told room would be ready later. When we returned after exploring, our bags were as we left them but no staff available. Our room was sufficient and clean. There is breakfast available to add on for 15€ per person.
- Etamar (8/5): All good until checkout - Everything was fine, however after checking out I returned to find my watch. The front door was locked in the early afternoon and the 3 numbers written on the door for contact we're all without answer and went to voice mail. I hope I get my Fenix watch back some day.
- Duncan (8/5): - This hotel was adequate for my needs. Fairly basic but excellent value for the cost, under £70 for 2 nights. Convenient for trams and buses and only 6 minutes walk from the central station.
- Jonathan (8/5): - No staff present at when we arrived or left. Hotel room was nice and clean but the heat was off when we arrived so it took a bit of time to warm it up. Parking was available nearby but not associated with the hotel the payment machines we all not accepting credit cards (broken somehow), only had 50 EUR bills which also weren’t accepted so it took a but of time to find a place that would provide change.

- simon (10/5): Top hotel - Stayed here many times nice hotel 3 mins walk from hbf. Recommend
- Mary (6/5): - Hotel is close to the main train station. There is no microwave, and mini fridge. The shower area is not well designed where water was coming out. The hairdryer was on a short timer, took a long time for hair to dry. The mattresses were very uncomfortable.
- Abdoul (10/5): - Every thing
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not a single cent spent here was worth it. - I wasn’t informed that there would be no staff at the front desk at night when I checked in. When I got back to the hotel and tried to shower, water sprayed out of the showerhead like a fountain, and there was no hot water. There was no proper shower door, just a thin partition, so water started spilling onto the bathroom floor and into the room. I tried to get help, but there was no one around. I couldn’t find any emergency contact info, so I ended up reaching out to Hotels.com. Even they couldn’t contact the hotel and told me to wait. I was coming down with a cold and really needed a hot shower, but I had no choice but to sleep without one.
The next morning, I told a staff member in the dining area, and she said the maintenance person wouldn’t arrive until 9 a.m. There wasn’t even an apology for the inconvenience. She just seemed indifferent and said she couldn’t help me because she had to prepare breakfast. Since I was only staying in Heidelberg for a day, I couldn’t afford to waste time waiting for repairs, so I left without showering. The staff I spoke to in the morning didn’t even ask if I was okay.
After checking out, I requested a partial refund through Hotels.com, but the hotel refused, saying hot water was available. While the sink had hot water, the shower definitely didn’t when I tried to use it. It’s probably an issue with the old building’s water system, but there’s no way for me to prove it. If I could’ve showered, why would I have walked around looking dirty?
- Tracy (8/5): - Lovely staff and good hotel. Only thing I was a little disappointed with was the location to thee centre of Heidlberg. When I booked it, it looked much closer to the river and shops than it actually was. A 15-20 minute walk for someone with mobility issues was a bit of an ordeal. Other than that, everything was great
- Catherine (8/5): Near the station - Quiet and comfortable.
- Teena (8/5): - .
- Khadeja (8/5): - If you're looking for a centrally located hotel with excellent service, Hotel Central Heidelberg is a solid choice. It's located within walking distance from Heidelberg HBF making it convenient, but it can get noisy and feel unsafe at night. While the noise and the slightly dated facilities might not appeal to everyone, the exceptional staff more than make up for these shortcomings.
- Lachlan (6/5): - Decent hotel. Noisy area.
- Adrian (6/5): - Great location, but homeless with dogs in the park across the street created quite a bit of noise one night. We enjoyed the close proximity to the grocery store and restaurants. The hotel elevator is quite old and small so only a max of 3 people can ride in it at once, and if you have luggage with you, it’ll be VERY crowded. Property doesn’t have air conditioning and the top floor, where we were staying, was very hot. The breakfast was good - plenty of options.
- Miroslava (10/5): - Wonderful location. Clean hotel with great breakfast. Staff super helpful and friendly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A budget hotel - Very basic hotel, the room very simple, facilities basic, simple breakfast with little service provided. A budget hotel
- James (2/5): - Unsafe - no one on the property after 9pm
- Tiziana (10/5): Heidelberg - Hotel was comfortable and clean and walking distance to
Old Town.
- Farishta (8/5): - I liked the hotel because of its location. It is in a very central area of the city and for a short trip, it is ideal place. Staff members were friendly and it is a clean place.
- Bob (8/5): - Old fashion elevator- very cool. Good breakfast at a fair price.
- Kellie (10/5): - Very clean. Easy check in!
- Theresa (10/5): - Super nice bathrooms
- Emilee (4/5): - Bed wasn’t comfortable
- Beth (10/5): - Elevator was broken,so you are carrying your luggage up long flights of stairs. There was a man in the lobby who was a bit to much.... asking questions about us in German, which I understand. Telling his daughter to just shrug her shoulders.Breakfast was lovely. Place is very worn down, thread bare, but safe. You are not allowed in without a key.
- Oliver (10/5): - The staff was very accommodating and the hotel was nice and safe. Price was great and close to the strip. Will definitely stay here again.
- Chris (10/5): - Close to the train station, not too far from the old town, cute clean room. Perfect hotel for my last night in Germany.
- Anoop Kumar (6/5): - Good place for a budget stay.
- Shawn (10/5): Nice overnight stay - Very friendly staff, great breakfast, convenient gated parking area next to the hotel. Quite neighborhood near the train station.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Convenient location, nice staff, solid range of breakfast options. I wouldn’t say the hotel was “beautiful” but it was clean and it served our purpose.
- Kate (6/5): - Property was ok for what i paid for it. Elevator was not working, which was very inconvenient
- Roger (2/5): - It was extremely hot, staff were nice, but area is not good, bed was not comfy and there’s nowhere local to eat. If you’re there for the evening stay in town
- Sara (4/5): - This hotel was not adequately staffed. Instead, I was notified on the day of check-in that a key would be left in a lockbox. Despite my effort to reach out for parking instructions, I received no reply and no help. I selected this hotel primarily because they offered covered parking in a city with complicated parking rules; however, I could only find street parking by permit. I was unable to have a restful night's sleep because I worried about my rental car being towed, tampered with, or ticketed. Also, the lift was broken and we were placed on the fourth floor which was difficult for my children. In the morning again there was no staff to check out with and the coffee machine only dispensed hot water. The property felt so isolated. My family and I were displeased and considered this hotel the worst hotel experience of our entire trip.
- Thomas (10/5): Classic hotel, convenient location - The hotel was well-positioned to sample the local businesses and was close to the central train station. Parking was available for a few but not offered upfront (street parking was offered, but there was nowhere to park). Another drawback was that the elevator (lift) was out of commission so we hauled our bags up and down 3 flights. That said, it was a classic old style hotel with a delightful kitchenette and balcony.
- Erica (8/5): Review - Overall a great stay. The service was minimal but efficient and friendly. The room was adequate and clean. The area was not the greatest but as long as I wasn’t alone I felt safe. Convenient to public transport, and we did find free street parking.
- Jaidev (4/5): - Pros - its in center snd walkable distance to train station and restaurants. Little walk to heidelberg palace.
Cons - wr paid for breakfast buffet in expedia. However, we were told that its not paid and had to pay 9$/person/day. We had to come out of breakfast area and have a conversation on this. It was pathetic discussion and finally we gave up and left the area.
Watchout if you are planning to have breakfast in this place.
- Nicholas (8/5): - Good location for walking distance to the old town and river side walk. On site car park a bonus
- Robert (10/5): - Great location offering simple accommodations at a reasonable price. Staff was terrific.
- Dennis (2/5): - That was not what I expected
- Sinisa (10/5): - very nice
- Jeremy (10/5): - A few minor repair issues (door handles, and such), but the room was comfortable and modern. Breakfast buffet was nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely staff, overall nice place to stay, well located. Let down very slightly by lack of coffee/tea facilities in rooms, would have preferred this option to the coffee machine in the lobby although the coffee was very good. A little basic but perfectly adequate!
- Natalie (10/5): - The staff are very helpful and accommodating. This was my second stay and I would go again -- it's hard to find a better place in this price range close to the train station. Easy in, easy out. Groceries near by.
- Natalie (6/5): - Hotel is fine for a short stay, though mostly outdated facilities. The bathrooms were remodeled, though, and beds comfortable.
- Zhuosheng (8/5): - The room is more expensive than most of the other hotels that are around the same level I booked in Germany. Besides, I think the room is okay.
- Mahshad (2/5): - 1- they said they don’t allow check in after 9pm, they allowed me to check in eventually but acting like they were doing a big favor to me! They were absolutely rude! I checked expedia and it didn’t say anything about check in before 9pm! I booked the hotel at 9:07pm and checked in at 9:30
2- Expedia was offering breakfast buffet for a fee for this hotel while they don’t offer it at all because of Covid! Horrible experience
3- rooms are old and beds were not comfortable
- John (6/5): You get what you pay for - You get what you pay for. This hotel is not centrally located to any of the attractions in Heidelberg. It is close to the main rail station but that is about it. It was clean but in desperate need of updates. We would not stay here again.
- Kiri (8/5): - Excellent option for this price point! Everything was very clean, and the rooms are simple but have been recently remodeled. The bathroom in the room was also very nice. Lovely person working at the front desk too, a very kind welcome. Plus the location is right by the main train station, which is ideal for "passing through" travel. (If you're in Heidelberg for tourism, it may be a bit far away from the old town.) I will definitely be staying here again the next time I pass through Heidelberg. Thank you!
- Viktor (8/5): Nice, Clean, Comfortable, Affordable - The stay was nice. The hotel is a little bit funny as it looks very outdated in the reception and the hallways. The room was however nice had been recently renovated. Clean and comfortable.
athe bathroom was nice.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay and was very satisfied.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was great, breakfast was amazing!
Very close to the hbf and there is a Kaufland supermarket just nex to it.
The only thing that can be improved is there was no Wifi, maybe inconvenient for people who really need Wifi.
- George (8/5): Very Pleasant Hotel - This hotel was very nice and pleasant, well located and with a friendly and helpful staff. The only problem was the fact that WiFi did not work in my room. In the lounge it worked impeccably. I was told that this was a known issue and will be addressed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I truly enjoyed this hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly. Small twin room was clean and well equipped with necessities. Location was perfect... very close to Main Station and all the public transportation needed to get around the main city and / or greater area.
I would definitely book this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value for price; within walking distance of train station and altstadt. Couldn’t be better!
- Matthew (10/5): Great Breakfast and clean comfortable stay - Very friendly staff and amazingly quaint breakfast.
200 meters from the Heidelberg train station.
- CL (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent with many varieties and options to choose from.
- Sherry (6/5): - It is convenient to the train station, and the staff is friendly and helpful. But we were disappointed in the bathroom. The shower stall had no door, and it was impossible to shower without getting water over half to two-thirds of the bathroom floor.
- Marv (10/5): - Close to train station/15 min walk to old town. Staff is friendly rooms very clean. Great breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - MY ROOM WAS JUST RIGHT FOR ME,AND THE STAFF VERY HELPFUL. I WILL USE THE HOTEL AGAIN
- Pgoel (8/5): - Great location and breakfast. Wish the room had a fan or AC.
- Jennifer (8/5): Friendly staff and clean hotel - My stay at hotel central was good - the staff were friendly and it was kept clean. Location was good, walkable distance to restaurants, city centre and local supermarkets.
- Ross (8/5): 3 nights on holiday, would've liked to stay longer - The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and the bathroom excellent. Breakfast was good value. The location is relatively quiet, handy for the station and about 15 minutes walk to the old town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very pleasant, toilet and shower room was quite small, washbasin was in main bedroom area, quite a nice use of space.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cozy hotel, nice staff, but small room - Small Cozy Hotel and close to the train station. Very nice front desk staff and cozy breakfast area. The only problem we experienced was that the room was so small and it was a challenge to open the 29" luggage on the floor (and we had two luggages!!)
- Robert t (4/5): location, location, only location - If you want a cheap hotel near the main train station this may be the place. Otherwise this place is wanting. Poor wifi, needs a facelift, not particularly clean and the staff needs an attitude adjustment. There weren't even glasses in the bathroom and when i asked the fellow at the desk if that meant the water was not ok to drink he answered, "well, i drink it". One night there was plenty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is an old and historical hotel close to the railway station. . The personel is friendly and redy to help you. Bedrooms are small and clean. The only thing I miss a lot is a small refrigerator....breakfeast is rich and coffe excellent.
There is also a garage safe. Costing 7 euro pr 24 hours.
- ELLDEE (10/5): Nice 👍 - Very friend front desk. Helpful. Never show unhappy face to us about his Knock off timing at 11pm. And serve us welcome coffee.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff - the chinese look-alike was nice. the other were not so bad.
Room - very satisfied.
- Carroll (10/5): Convenient and accommodating hotel - Staff was very friendly. Jules and Andy very helpful and accommodating. Hotel has easy access to the train station and bus routes.
Shower is oddly designed.
- Sarah (10/5): - The staff were so friendly and helpful, giving up ideas for what to see in the city. Room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Breakfast was delicious and they were great about storing our luggage for the day after we checked out.
- Norma (10/5): Great hotel - Great hotel and location. The front desk staff went above and beyond for us. We had only booked for one night and decided to stay an extra night. Our room which was for 3 adults was not available but before they moved us I got to inspect the new room which was great. Highly recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really close to the train station. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Darcey (10/5): - Great location close to train station and to old town. Small restaurant/bar attached and liquor store next door.
- paul (2/5): Shocking service - Arrived after a evening out to find my room in darkness, when back to reception nobody around , went into the bar , guy not interested. When back to reception rang bell went behind the desk to the back room shouted nobody around. No security anybody can walk around , if a fire breaks out your on your own.
Next morning still no lightning in my room 1000am when down had a word , reply should be on soon. Had a appointment at 11 , so know shower no phone . Please give this hotel a miss , I’ll never return.
- Julian (10/5): Clean & friendly. Close to hbf. - Perfect place to stay if you want a simple, clean and friendly hotel, that is close to the hbf.
- Hugh (8/5): Good stay; excellent staff - Close to railway station and transit into old town; we had a nicely renovated room. Staff were friendly and helpful; breakfast was inexpensive and filling.
- Verified traveler (2/5): good location bas service - The hotel’s location is good. Newr central train station and close to some restaurants and supermarkets but the hotel itself was very disappointing. They did not have handwashing soap and I noted that twice so they put some water diluted soap and the answer was they did mot receive from the supplier which is really not the customers problem and they should have found a different solution. The room was also mot cleaned properly.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Good location - Good location, friendly and helpful staff, wonderful breakfast, but basic accommodation. Tea and coffee facilities in my room would've been good, and less heat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet location , but away from tourist centre - Free parking on site, quiet location easy to find.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel , downtown area, very good and kind Staff . They helped me a lot . I'm very thankful .
- pat (8/5): Handy to train station - Convenient close to station and to bus stop to the sights. The castle is a great half day atraction. Breakfast excellent value. (Previous review i made a few minutes ago is wrong..i had the wrong place in mind)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value for money - Good family-run hotel near the airport. Staff very helpful, provided free coffee and water. Located near the central train station. Excellent value for money. I would stay again.
- Juni (8/5): - Basic hotel very close to main train station
Good value
- S (10/5): Very good accom - Very good accom
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There is no AC, it was too hot. Room is very small
- Laura&Chris (8/5): Nice hotel close to train station - The hotel was only a block or so from the train station, which made getting there very easy. We got to town earlier in the day, and were able to drop our bags off with reception before going out to explore the city. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom included shampoo/body wash.
The breakfast in the morning had the basics, and was very filling - eggs, bacon, sausages, cheeses, deli meats, yogurt, fruit, etc.
We would consider staying here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel close to the train station - Nice stay. Everything is well and smooth. Staff was friendly and room is clean.
Ll
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good hotel with great location. Wish people at reception were more helpful about their knowledge of local tourism.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK hotel - wouldn't stay again. - It's an adequate hotel - close to the train station, which is nice, but not in the nicest zone, with people sprawled out in the unkempt park outside window. Eccentric hotel with clashing decor, not particularly friendly check in staff. The bar next door (which seemed to be part of the hotel with separate entrance) was closed the entire time we were there. You have to walk a way for eating options - Krokodile is your best, nearby bet. No safe or fridge. No fridge was a big drag in the heat as we couldn't keep any drinks or snacks cold. Like most hotels in Germany, there is no A/C and it was extremely hot - there was a fan, and you have to keep windows open, although if you have a lower level room like we had, you'll want to close those when you leave the room. Very oddly designed bathroom flooded when showering, so to use the toilet you have to mop all the water up from the floor. Most tv channels did not work. Breakfast was ok but not much range and breakfast room was extremely hot. If we visit Heidelberg again we would stay at a different hotel, slightly closer to the Old Town.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The checkin staff was friendly, but the person waiting to clean the room on check out was not.
- Davin (8/5): - Hotel itself is old but the rooms are modern looking and fairly comfortable. It can get noisy during all hours due to the proximity of the train station and there is no air conditioning so the windows have to stay open. Aldstadt is very walkable from this hotel but we opted to get the Heidelberg card for access to the bus system which is available regularly and nearby.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room too warm but cooled with windows open at night. Staff helpful and breakfast great with lots of choices.
- Theresa (8/5): - No air conditioning no or fan available so left window open to be attracted by biting flying bugs and street was very Noisy
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hot and bugs... - Well, there was no ac unit in the room.. the night was very warm. My husband noticed about 50 nats in the corner of the ceiling (I assume from the window having to be open). We went downstairs to ask for a different room.. but there we no one in the reception area... not a fun stay.
- Robert (6/5): Heidelberg hotel - A bunch of noisey lads woke me up when they returned to the hotel at 4.30am. They were enjoying tgemselves but lacked consideration to others. Hotel is close yo station but not very central to city. Very tasty breakfast. Friendly staff. Helpful
- Gordon (10/5): Hotel Central recommended - I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It has an older style to it which I like because most modern hotels have no character. The lobby is big has very interesting and retro style furniture. Reception staff were very helpful. I stayed on the 1st floor and the room was perfect and great value for money. It was also recently refurbished with a good modern bathroom and a large screen Tv. The location of the hotel is perfect, it is literally a 3 minute walk to the train station where you can find a restaurant/bar and a 2 fast food outlets. The walk into central Heidelberg is about 15 minutes or you can get the bus 33 which is 30 seconds walk from the hotel. If I was going back to Heidelberg I'd definitely stay here again.
- Tim (10/5): Comfortable and convenient hotel. - Great hotel near train station. Most comfortable beds, excellent breakfast.
The staff was also most helpful with restaurant suggestions, local area.
