Guest Reviews
- Nigel (10/5): Very good economy stay - The staff, exceptionally helpful and friendly. Spotlessly clean. Perhaps the rooms were a little old, but for the price they were very good.
- Whitham (3/5): Shite - The evening meal we paid for was good but breakfast was disappointing the Internet was a joke the room was really poor and in need of a up grade tape on carpet bed very small and very hard tv could do with being moved as the only place to watch it is on the bed poor loo flush unable to just turn bathroom lights on without room lights coming on noise all day and night from something behind the room or somewhere else only one cup and glass and only one of each coffee tea sugar and milk much much more i can say but ive given up Everything
- Julie (7/5): Pleasant - The staff, very helpful and polite Our room was comfortable but there was damp in the room as wallpaper had peeled off
- Claire (6/5): Disappointing - Location was convenient Cold and damp (with mould) in bathroom. Dirty looking towel and rock hard bed
- Serenity (10/5): Great place to stay for my daughters 30th birthday party. - The room was spacious and comfortable and really nice.
It was pet friendly and our dog was very comfy.
- Steven (6/5): - Easy access to motorway Rooms could do with a bit of tlc, skirting boards in bathroom where rotten. Grass outside chalet was overgrown and untidy. Long wait of 40 minutes for breakfast
- Geoff (8/5): - very good food and very well priced
- Manuela (9/5): Comfortable and clean, would stay again. Thank you. - I stayed for one night and had a sound sleep. The room was comfortable and clean with all necessities provided. Car parking right in front of my accommodation. Easy check in and out. Friendly staff. Thank you.
- Richard (9/5): -
- Andrea (8/5): Staff were helpful and polite. - Warm. Comfortable bed. Plenty of hot water. The decor in bathroom was a bit tatty. The grass could do with a mow.
Curtains could do with a makeover.
- Chris (8/5): -
- gavin (8/5): - All ok for price Creeky floorboards in room
- Patrick (9/5): -
- rachel (1/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): Comfortable place to stay that's very good value - An excellent stop over
Easy access good parking .
Comfortable and clean
All for a good price..
We have stayed before and stayed fir 2 nights this time ..
Staff are lovely too. My only point for improvement would be to tidy up some of the outside areas behind the rooms a bit ovegrown
This didn't reflect on our stay in anyway and we will definitely stay again
This was our 2nd vist.
- Helen (8/5): - Convenient, with good parking available close to rooms, onsite reasonably priced food and drink. Room was very hot on arrival.
- Philip (8/5): Comfortable stay with excellent breakfast. - The breakfast was excellent and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel could be improved with some redecoration, but all in all it was acceptable. There was a little mould on the bathroom ceiling, but nothing really to be concerned about. Comfortable accomodation.
- Dean (4/5): unfortunately this stay was marred by the fact this place seems to attract a lot of Irish travellers - nice size room. rooms was in need of a refresh. poor repairs to previous damage
- Amanda (3/5): - Room warm and good size
Food good
Staff great Bed and pillows need to be put in a skip and replaced
Very very basic room
- Joanne (3/5): - Location and the restaurant is good. Staff friendly Room was very dark, marks over the walls, freezing cold. It needs modernising, mould on silicon around the bath and the floor was lifting.
- Roger (7/5): Perfectly adequate. - location, clean but basic. Heating was off. chilly evening but rads didn’t respond.
- Mike (9/5): Have stayed before and almost certain to return. Thank you GK - As always, welcomed by smiling/friendly staff. Able to park my car immediately outside my room/chalet which was a good size with a very comfortable bed and all the essential 'extras' - decent TV, kettle, lots of sockets both at the dressing table and close to the bed (latter great for keeping the phone nearby while charging). Clean bathroom with lots of the 'right sort' (large) of towels. Shower super powerful. Honestly nothing.
- Sophie (7/5): - Location Some of the exterior on our room is looking a bit worn out and crumbling but otherwise everything was fine
- Robert (8/5): - The staff are friendly and the service was quick. I left early in the morning before it opened for breakfast and there was no key box for the room key, ended up leaving it in the room.
- Dave (10/5): - Ease of booking in, freindly staff, comfy bed & decent size room Nothing much
- William (10/5): Great place - Could do we a face lift Good place for me dog show
- Wombler (10/5): - Parking
- Laura (9/5): -
- Chris (7/5): -
- Stuart (9/5): Good value for money and met our expectations, if not exceeded them - Room only as we needed to be away early each morning, but evening meal was excellent value for money, and the location perfect for what we needed. Very little to complain about.
- Katharine (7/5): Poorer than last time we stayed - No mugs or tea. No heating
- Mark (9/5): - Amazing service and brilliant room Very remote - taxis needed for anything of an evening except going to the pub which was dead by 9pm
- Robert (10/5): Great location, perfect accommodation and got a great nights sleep. - Really nice and private All was great
- Clare Protheroe (9/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Convenient, comfortable and clean - Clean, spacious, comfortable, convenient. staff are lovely and helpful Chalets are looking a little dated, could do with a lick of paint
- Carl Baldwin (10/5): -
- David (7/5): Ok for one night stay - Friendly staff Good breakfast and service Room cold central heating not working Electric heater provided but not powerful enough to heat whole apartment and bathroom
- James (10/5): Nice visit and local to my work - Nice place to stop Nothing it was good
- chunchira (10/5): -
- Margaret (8/5): Enjoyable couple of days. Thank you - Staff were very good. Nothing was too much trouble. Ww enjoyed our stay Luck of paint in our room. Warm and staff excellent
Run off their feet
- nichola (7/5): Convenient cheap would stay again - Convenient for what we needed
Stayed before
Good to have restaurant on site Starting to look run down
The meal took far to long to arrive even though we booked it was like it was a surprise
- nichola (7/5): -
- Vickie (8/5): Great for what I need - I have stayed here a few times. I like that fact that All the rooms are like your own little apartment Never enough tea bags, but that’s a personal thing. I always bring extra
- Claire (6/5): Good for an overnight stay. - Staff very friendly and helpful. Debra particularly good at breakfast service. Facilities in room ok for the star rating. The rooms were very tired and in need of a refresh and some maintenance. Had booked two rooms and in one the door lock was loose and security snib not working. Offered an alternative room which was accepted.
- Sarah (5/5): No sleep - Convenient as we had plans for the night in the area Room was a little outdated. The main issue was I didn’t sleep. There were some lads in a nearby room and they played music (actually it wasn’t music it was a continuous thud thud thud) from 4am. When I got up in the morning I realised it was a few doors away so must have been loud and we couldn’t have been the only ones struggling.
- Matthew (6/5): - Ants in the room
- Patrick (10/5): Will stay again - Location nice & quiet All good
- Carl (1/5): - Pub Disgusting dirty room. Filthy carpets, filthy walls covered with dirt, food and drink splattered up them. Dirty bedsheets splashed with drink stains. Mould on ceilings and bath. Front door that didn't close flush and secure.
- Belle (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): - Excellent customer service. Excellent clean room.
- Charmayne (10/5): Loved it... Great Hotel and good cheap and effective room - Didn't stop for breakfast due to time line...had food in the evening which was very enjoyable... unfortunately there needs to be more bar staff in the evenings to stop the Hugh queues
- Andrew (9/5): Easy to check in free parking clean and tidy great service from staff good food what’s no to like . - Convenient as we have relatives in ellistown which is just a few minutes away. Individual cabins for you to stay in second visit so all in all would continue to stay here when needed. Could do with a refresh looking a bit tired otherwise no problems.
- Michael (8/5): -
- Paula (9/5): -
- Helen (8/5): Relaxing, comfortable and would definitely recommend. - Although near a main road, the accommodation was situated further back so there was no traffic noise. As it was self-contained, we were able to sit outside in the sunshine with a cuppa! It was a bit cold, plus the key in the door was a bit stiff and difficult to turn. The door was quite heavy so I struggled a little getting my luggage in from the car, but overall I was very happy with the accommodation.
- Jason (4/5): -
- Stuart (6/5): -
- Curtis (8/5): - The room, location, privacy the staff. The
Space to walk dog was just about good. Very quiet area.parking good. Staff very helpfull really. The ants, everywhrre the use of , the qr code???? meal booking??? The steps into room was very high for disabled, , meals looked good but very quickly went cold, had breakfast on 22 was ok .Threat of £100 fine for hotel paid stayers is sickening, why have you got to book in seperately?? If your a hotel booked in stayer just get thee reg. Spate pillows , 2 not enough that go flat?? May well come bavk
- Bill Siviter (8/5): Business traveller - The Charnwood Arms is a pub with accommodation, with good access to the MI and other major roads in the area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is free parking at the rooms. The room was all I needed, a comfortable bed, place to work, and en-suite bathroom and free wi-fi. Food in the evening was good and exceptional value compared to other places I have been staying at. Breakfast from 07.00am, with good breakfast. The wi-fi at the room kept dropping out.
- Angela (1/5): Disappointing stay - Restaurant was friendly reasonably priced and relaxed Room was very basic. Up two flights of very steep poorly lit stairs Impossible to shower because water was boiling hot . Had to run a boiling hot bath and add cold from basin using kettle. (Both days)
- Alberto (7/5): - The shower water, no way to get cool, warm water instead of very hot water
- Kate (10/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): -
- rebecca (4/5): - Rooms were warm, cosy and clean Pub -hungry horse
Formal Complaint: Mother’s Day Service – Coalville Hungry Horse
Serious Complaint regarding Health, Hygiene, and Service Standards
1. Booking and Seating Issues
Despite booking a table the night prior, we were informed upon arrival that our reservation did not exist. While we were eventually seated, we were told we had a one-hour limit, which set a rushed and unwelcomed tone for the entire meal.
2. Service Failures
Immediately after being seated, we were informed we had only 10 minutes to access the continental breakfast before it was cleared, despite the advertised service time of 10:00 AM. Furthermore, when the cooked breakfasts arrived, several items were missing. These did not reach the table until 10 minutes later, meaning the party could not eat together.
3. Critical Hygiene Concerns
The most distressing part of our visit involved the quality and safety of the food served:
Contamination: A child’s breakfast was served with a clearly visible hair on the plate.
Health Hazard: Upon further inspection of the meal, a dead fly was found on the hash browns.
4. Unprofessional Management and Staff
When these issues were brought to the manager's attention, the response was appalling. Rather than offering an apology or a solution, the manager’s response was, "What do you want us to do about it?" This dismissive and rude attitude was consistent across the staff we encountered throughout the morning.
Conclusion
As a customer, I expect a basic level of cleanliness and professional courtesy, both of which were non-existent. To be treated with such disrespect on Mother’s Day is unacceptable.
I would like to know how you intend to address these hygiene breaches and what steps you are taking to ensure no other family has their celebration ruined in this manner. I look forward to your prompt response and a proposal for a full resolution.
- Ineta (1/5): Unpleasant - Location Unfriendly and unhelpful staff.
The room looked like it had not been cleaned since it was built, a dirty carpet, unwelcome stains on the walls, dust everywhere else and a shower was broken with no cold water.
- Vicky (5/5): Pleasant but shame about the shower! - Location
Free parking
Convenience with on-site food and super friendly staff The shower
Caution notice in bathroom did say hot water
But didn’t advise of third degree burns (rm 9)
- Christina (9/5): Was perfect for our visit to see family. Will definitely stay again - Dog friendly, clean and just what we needed
- Amanda (4/5): -
- Kenzie (8/5): -
- anthony (3/5): very dissapointing - food good Bedroom not hoovered and toilet not cleaned. Found items on floor. Noise from traffic. Could do with better noise prevention windows. Outside light not working. Not keen to stay here again.
- Clare (1/5): Perfect stay for our visit to the emporium - Clean and comfortable rooms.
Will definitely book again for our next Coalville visit.
Met up with friends for a rave at the emporium. Ate twice at the pub was nice. Nothing
- David (8/5): - Good breakfast Sheets looked a bit grubby. Problem with TV
- Ali (8/5): Great - Everything Beds and pillows not great
- Clare (10/5): -
- Faye (5/5): Does the job for a stay after a night out - Good location
Good bar/restaurant facilities
Bed comfortable
Staff very good and helpful but seemed rushed off their feet so we were kept waiting (not their fault as all lovely) Room full of cobwebs
Shower has one temp which was scorching
Super creaky floorboards
Only 1 cup for hot drinks
- Vickie (4/5): - Location and food Beds rock hard, only 1 pillow each, musty/stale smell in room
- Angela (9/5): Comfortable, friendly and welcoming - The room was simple but clean, warm and comfortable. It was well enough equipped for an affordable room. It included an iron and ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. The only quirk was that the room was set up for one person, so one bath towel, glass and mug. This was rectified when we asked at reception.
We met our family for dinner in the pub and had a really lovely meal. It was a table of 6 and all of our food was generous, hot and tasty. We were served by Kevin who was friendly, efficient and professional. He brought some of our drinks to the table when our food arrived so we didn't have to get up again, which was appreciated. At breakfast we were served by Deborah who was also friendly and efficient. Our breakfast was hot, plentiful and tasty. For a simple stay with nice food and service we would recommend The Charnwood Arms. We don't have any negative comments to make.
- Rebecca (7/5): Staff are super friendly and attentive. - Room was nice all though a little dated, bathroom could do with an update but overall everything was clean.
- Paul (8/5): Adequate for a short stay - Car parking close to accommodation. Bed was very big clean and comfortable.

- David (10/5): Really relaxing - The breakfast was really good and the staff really heloful There was nothing that could have been better
- Paul (8/5): -
- Lyndsay (7/5): - 1.Facilities met our needs with pub and food on premises for over night stop.
2.Bed was very comfortable.
3.Room was spacious and clean. 1. Decor needed updating, chipped paint on radiators and splash stains on walls in places.
2. Need to clean mould of shower/ bath sealant.
- ROBERT (8/5): For a simple, no frills overnight stay it’s perfect. - Easy, relaxing and great budget The bathroom could do with a better quality toilet paper, new shower curtain and some of the black mould cleaning off.
- Hayley (4/5): - Dog friendly Towels smelt, room too hot and unable to cool it down, music from function loud and on until late, spider in bath, only one mug
- Keilly (8/5): Very quite and enjoyable but room could have been bigger as it was very tight - Lovely and clean More tea coffe and sugar and bigger room
- Cory (10/5): A chalet hotel that’s connected to a stake house restaurant, the facilities and staff were amazing, especially Debs who - The room was so comfortable and clean The shower temperature control was difficult to manage at first, but then once working correctly, it was perfect
- Tracy (8/5): -
- Hitchcock (10/5): -
- Rhodes (7/5): -
- Rhodes (7/5): - Staff were lovely
- Christopher (8/5): - The room was well equipped with everything required. Ironing board, iron, hairdryer, towels, shower and hand gel dispensers, spare pillows, tea, coffee and milk sachets. Bed was comfortable and big. The long wait for a receptionist to book me in. The distance I had to walk from my room to the function room. ( I suffer from arthritis and use a walking stick ) especially seen as there were other rooms closer which appeared unoccupied. I didn't book direct so couldn't let them know of my disability. Booked through another party.

- James (8/5): -
- Carol (10/5): Had a vrry enjoyable night at the function and then stayed over in a nice room - Very good quality Nothing
