Guest Reviews
- Tanya (2/5): - We didn't read the reviews before reserving. When I walked into the cabin, I immediately second guessed our choice. It is very rustic. The windows and coverings are old. The locks for the door are terrible. There are only 2 outlets in the whole cabin. The bathroom was long and skinny. We had to slide past the sink to get to the toilet and shower. There was maybe 1 1/2' between the sink and the wall! I woke up in the middle of the night to scratching. I turned the light on and saw a mouse come out of our bag on the table and run out the door (which is not sealed tightly). We went through the rest of our luggage and locked it securely. Before I could go back to sleep, I heard another noise. Turned on the light and saw another mouse run across the floor. We arrived on motorcycles, so we couldn't sleep in our car or head to another place...this place is about 30 miles from the next town! I haven't tried to get any refund, as past reviews state that they will not. We paid a lot of money to share a room with the wildlife!
- Meri (6/5): - The cabin was a cute as could be, but it was not very clean! Needs deep cleaning AND just a good day-to-day cleaning.
The property was exceptionally beautiful and well cared for. I'd stay again in a heartbeat but for the cleanliness issue
- Matthew (2/5): - The mice running around my room was the worst part of the experience! I had 2 nights booked but checked out after only one and they would not refund me.
When I arrived in my cabin I first noticed that the light fixture was filled with hundreds dead bugs and looked like it had never been cleaned.
I was sitting on my bed in the evening on my phone when I heard a rustling noise in the bathroom. I looked to see a mouse running along the brim of the garbage can. It then ran into my room towards my bed. I scared it and it hid in one of the many cracks in the cabin.
The moment I turned out the light I heard the mouse running along the floor, I would turn the light back on and saw it scurry back to a crack. The thought of it climbing up on my bed while I slept was too much. I opted to sleep in my vehicle instead.
But……. As I settled in my car at 1:00am, I heard a loud scratching sound under my hood and in my dash. No doubt the mice followed to my car as this is where I had my food stored. I turned on my vehicle and moved to sleep in the main parking lot away from the cabin. Needless to say I did not sleep much.
When I returned to my room at sun up, there was indeed mouse droppings on my bed, yuck!
Not only that but the restaurant was shut down. I was told in an email that upon check in that I could still order breakfast for the morning. But when I checked in the person behind the desk said they did not know anything of it.
- Congcong (2/5): - No food, No staff, very very noisy and dirty.
- John (10/5): - Very nice place to stay.
- Derek (4/5): - The cabins are cute and it’s in a nice area. There is a lot of potential for this place, but it’s need some work. There were no dinning options, the door lock was questionable and the shower and toilet leaked. We also had a mouse in the cabin
- Dwight (2/5): No communication and spooky dog = sleeping in car - On my way to Kootenay Park Lodge I received an email 1 hour prior to their office's closing hours. I was told to let them know when I would arrive, else I could knock on their doors. I arrived at late night and attempted to communicate with them with all the different channels they provided in their initial email, this website, and their website. I received nothing back then, and nothing back now. My partner and I attempted to locate their office of which was not marked on any sign. We opened the door of one building and found it to be the cafeteria. The office had nobody inside either. The creak of the door and the dark mildly dilapidated interior gave horror movie vibes so after a quick look we noped out. We went towards the gift shop as a last chance to locate someone and on the way there a random dog just started barking very aggressively. It lunged once but otherwise stayed in the corner and went back to sitting so maybe it was tied up or something. Nobody in that building either so after another attempt to get in contact with them, we just left and slept in the car down the road.
- Chelsey (4/5): - The cabin itself was quiet and clean however the restaurant was closed and has clearly been closed for a while despite their website saying its open 7 days a week for all meals. We had to drive 40 minutes to buy gas station food for dinner. The wifi is also poor, there is an aggressive dog tied up out front and they lock the gate to the property so getting out in the morning was difficult.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid this place - My wife and I went here for our anniversary because the photos online make this look like a cute quite little get away.
When we arrived the 2 front desk workers spoke barely any English to the point where we were googling images of a deck of cards to see if they had any for sale.
The restaurant had an opening time for dinner from 530-730 we were there at 615 and no one was there. There was a bell you could ring and wait we did this and no one came. The nearest towns are 40-45 mins away
Finally my wife was using the washroom in our cabin and noticed a chewed up toilet roll with mouse poop beside it.
At this point we left and went to radium for the night. This cabin was just under 300 for the night and was not worth it at all.
- Susan (4/5): - Very hard to communicate with staff. No dining options. Some of the cabins in very poor condition. Improper installation of hot water tanks made the property very unsafe and a hazard to patrons. Smoke alarms did not work in cabins.
Property has potential to be very beautiful, but in need of many, many repairs and improvements.
- Matthew (4/5): - Unhelpful staff & they email wifi instructions as well as every other piece of helpful information that you can't get without wifi
- girish (2/5): - Terrible condition, rats in living room, WiFi connection keeps dropping, no daily room keeping service, did not change linens & bedsheet, restaurant is closed, no curtains on window in washroom - literally no privacy in washroom.
- Edgardo (6/5): - This place is overpriced.
- Yuan (4/5): - The mattress seemed aged.
- Emil (6/5): - Outdated
- Mr Richard J (2/5): - The photos of the cabins in ads do not reflect their current condition. I expect the photos are at least 10 years out of date and little or no maintenance has been done since.
Our cabin was heated by a small portable heater that barely kept the cabin at 15c.
No food or cooking facilities on site. Coffee is $4 a cup.
- Michael A. (4/5): Do NOT fall for the nice pictures!! - Where to start… a lot of vermin feces in the cabins, holes in the floors around pipes and drains, gaps above and below doors letting in the bugs, hazardous wires catching your arms, appliances plugged into extension cords, building materials and hazards all around the grounds, broken benches, unkept grounds, no restaurant on grounds, wifi is non existent, owners barely speak English, the german shepherd barking aggressively and left outside the lodge continuously (poor pup!).
We stayed in a cabin that leaked when it rained, so they moved us to a different cabin. Second cabin was almost as bad as first cabin. At least the second one didn’t leak, but had same issues as the first and the shower would fill up with water. I would not use it the second day, due to the vermin feces at the bottom. I did not want to stand in that!
The renovations that they have tried to make over the years are awful and scabbed together.
- CHYI SHUEN WEBER (2/5): - 1)The staff in the front desk can’t speak English well.
2) The properties are terrible.
3) Water leaks and no hot water.
4) No room-cleaning during my stay ( 4 nights)
5) No food market/ restaurant in 40 km.
6) No Wi-Fi, no television, no music.
- Michelle (4/5): - With some work, these cabins could be a lot better. Many of the cabins have gaps between the door & floor/ceiling. One even has a hole chewed through the door. The windows of our cabin had some gaps/holes. So our cabin was full of mosquitoes. The curtains didn't quite fully cover the windows and there was no hand soap in the bathroom. However, the cabins are very charming and cozy. The bed was super comfortable. I really wanted to stick it through, but we heard a squirrel or something trying to chew through the floor and we left to find other accomodations. The people working there were nice, but their dog kept barking aggressively whenever anyone went near the office. I didn't like to leave, but it was starting to feel more like camping rather than staying in a nice cabin. I think with some work, this place would be a really nice, cozy & affordable choice in Kootenay National Park.
- Crystal (6/5): - The cabin was decent with enough space. The hot water didn’t last very long and the mini fridge was so loud we had to turn it off. We tried to get the gas fire going but it wouldn’t, not even after a staff member tried.
The common area is nice to use and they had a propane tank that we were able to use for our portable grill.
The employees couldn’t speak English well so communication was difficult. They also had a German Shepherd tied up out front that barked every single time someone came near to the office - this dog barked well into the night and would start again in the morning.
Very poor management of the area with it looking very unorganized and dirty. The store is also inadequately organized and isn’t stocked or presented very nicely. It’s too bad bc this place has a lot of potential, it just needs proper management and some TLC.
I’d only recommend if you had no other option, otherwise your better to find another place.
- Matthew (10/5): - Nice cabins, extremely cold though as our heater was not working. If you plan to stay here, consider bringing a space heater or extra fire wood in case. Otherwise very charming.
- Paul (4/5): - Other than the fact that the cabin that I stayed when was brand new this was a near nightmare. Communication with the staff was difficult at best due to language differences. The cabin actually has unsafe steps without handrail the front porch has only one rail to the side but not one in the front. There is no television. There is no cell phone service. The Wi-Fi they claim to have doesn’t work inside the cabin. Outside the cabin barely works. In addition they have a guard dog, golden retriever. Which barks at the guess when they come to the front desk. To top it all off when I attempted to leave at quarter till eight in the morning the gates were locked preventing me from exiting the property. I would not recommend this property to anyone.
- Rohan (2/5): Do not stay here - Overpriced and the worse accommodation I have ever stayed in for the price
- Chris (2/5): Left without staying - Photos on Hotels.com are in no way accurate for the condition now. The cabins are run down, doors bodged with pieces of wood, exposed electrical wiring and cracked fire surround. Onsite restaurant not open despite the website stating it was. We left without staying, staff didn't seem bothered by our comments and made no attempt to fix the issues raised. Would definitely NOT recommend to anyone!
- Carley (8/5): - Single female who stayed here 3 nights. These were all I needed to adventure between the national parks. The wifi is only in the office, but it reached my cabin & worked fine (cabin 5). Cabins were clean & cute. Saw a spider or two, but that comes with the territory. There was a good sized gap below the door, which I shoved my extra towel under to stop the cold draft during the night. Some sections of windows you could see in, so I covered those with towels too. They provide firewood for you to have a fire inside the cabin. It took me a day to realize you basically have to slam the door shut to get it to lock. There is a deadbolt inside as well. Hot water in the showers worked great every night. I will say I expected them to be a little less pricey since they are so simple. These are perfect for the simple low-maintenance people.
- Lindsay (2/5): - This property is nothing like it was described online. The cabins are falling apart, there’s no proper wifi, the restaurant wasn’t open, the cabins themselves smelt of must and mould, they were unclean. There was hole in the door where animals can get into the cabin. The cabin was leaning and was not structurally sound. When I talked to management about a refund as I could not stay in the establishment, I was met with a rude manager and did not offer any solution. I was disgusted with the appearance and I felt unsafe to stay the night as I was travelling alone. I felt as I was mislead by the description and by the photos of this lodge. I was not given a refund even though I did not stay the night, or even make the cabin messy. I was on site for all of 20 minutes before I left. I do not recommend this place to stay at all. I was extremely disappointed to stay the least. I will not be returning.
- Noel (2/5): - There was no WiFi except at lobby. no laundry ,no food ,
The rooms were poor with exposed wiring electrical panel over the bed sockets hanging out of the wall.
- Stephen (4/5): - The one good thing was the front desk staff who was very helpful. Beyond that... There was no notification that the restaurant was closed for reservations prior to our arrival. Closest spot to eat was about 45 minutes away which we ended up going to. The mini fridge in our cabin didn't work, wifi worked half of the time, and there was no cell phone reception. The entire place felt and looked very run down and poorly maintained. I don't see myself going back here.
- Megan Elizabeth (6/5): - When considering the area, it's understandable that there wouldn't be any wifi or phone service. It was a great stay however it was very dirty. There were cobwebs everywhere... We saw the previous persons food in the sink.
- saad (6/5): - difficulty in finding the place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the little private cabins. Very clean and well taken care of. Only a slight issue finding our cabin since we came for a late check-in. They left a key for us but it wasn't mentioned which cabin number we were in so we had to spend 15 min looking for ours. Otherwise very good experience and great area to be.
- Ali (6/5): - We stayed one night at this cabin. There were very basic stuff in the cabin. Our bed was clean but in general it is a very casual place. There was free woods provided to burn and heat up the place. Bathroom was super tiny and shower was like camping style. Our cabin was located beside road so it was not quite. Staying in the cabin was a different experience for us compared to usual hotels.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There was no wifi working and it wasn’t on info when I booked I want full refund we didn’t use property and we left after one hour
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved the quaintness of our cabin. The main room was exactly as in the photos. The new owners are planning much needed kitchen and bathroom upgrades. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No WiFi. When told there was. Dirt under bed, Shower floor was dirty. Rodents in the walls. Fridge didn't work.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Like: a dining table in the small kitchen.
Dislike: a century-old lodge with uneven floor. No landline phone, meaning you have to walk to the office if you want something. No internet coverage (no wifi) in the room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My husband and I were only able to stay for one night and I wish it has been longer! The cabins were small but quaint, the staff were friendly and personable, and the lack of cell service/reliable internet was refreshing. The beds were very comfortable and the surrounding area was nice and quiet at night. We also found a fun walking trail by the river! The cabins were not airtight, which was not a problem for me, but some people may not appreciate the bugs being able to come inside.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Cabin was crocked, toilette was not fixed in properly. Was there 5 nights, no towel change or room cleaning was done. You have to go to Helpdesk to pick up towels and soap but it was always closed before we were back to our cabin.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location of the cabin was nice, just beside the highway. The cabins are so old, needs a lot of renovation no doubt. My cabin’s main door had no workable locks or bolts, just had to leave like as it is, which is pretty uncomfortable. Standing shower needs more clean up. The stoves n microwaves dont know if it would really work or not, actually i was in a doubt after watching. They need to go for a thorough renovation.
- Kyle (6/5): Great location - Really great location but the accommodations could use some work. The lodgings had obviously been upkept by someone who was not a professional so the flooring was bubbled up, there were big gaps between the doors and the wall, etc. The food was a bit pricey even considering the prices you expect to pay in that area and was not particularly good. Wifi is available if you stand close to the store. Great location but I think we would probably stay elsewhere next time.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This isn't value for money at all.Poorly managed, cleanliness is awful and very poor cabin conditions. The pictures in the ads were very colourful and eye catching but they do not represent the real condition at all and in fact it was a false exaggeration of the real situation.I do not recommend this place to anyone.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This was a good sleep and go lodge. NOTHING FANCY.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had a fun time here. Unfortunately, there was a heat wave, so the cabin was unusually hot, andthe fridge was unable to chill our food. Also, although authentic and historical, it would be nice to see the floors upgraded in the cabins.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It is not up to standard for the price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is very quaint, beautiful, private and rustic. The heritage cabins are a trip to the past of simpler times. I highly recommend staying here. I will definitely be back.
- Eva (10/5): - This property is a gem! So much history! have spent several trips in this place and we will be coming back ! Best sleep in the park!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overnight in Kootenay - Locations was great in the mountains by a river. The Cabin itself was rundown, not properly cleaned, bathroom was small with no toilet paper. At least the beds were comfortable and we had a good sleep. The power went out around midnight. We arrived late and the Key was left where they said they would leave it. The staff in the morning was very friendly. We won't stay here again unless the cabins are upgraded
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cozy and picturesque kitchenette and bathroom a bit dated
- Verified traveler (4/5): - mouse droppings in the rooms, someone else underwear under the bed. park store hours not convienent
- Karin (10/5): Great experience - Unapologeticly authentic! Great family experience. Food was exceptionally good. A must experience to get the family unplugged!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved it! Highly recommended. - We had such a great time at the lodge. The location is just perfect for anyone who craves a nature experience. Staff is friendly and helpful and go above and beyond to ensure guests have a good stay. It is an old lodge with somewhat basic services but once you come with the right expectations it is really the most perfect stay you can have in the Rockies. We will gladly come back again and again and again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rustic cabins with great location in the center of the NP. I highly recommend staying here.
Willy
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a fun experience to have a little cabin, which has a long history and spend a cozy night. The owners and staff are very accommodating and laid back. Had a great time ..the dinner looks amazing and there is a great creek path around the lodge.
- Richa (2/5): - We booked family cabin and when we reached there , the cabin they gave us was for couple. There was no one to talk.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice spot and cute cabin, but nothing worked and poorly equipped. Could have been cleaner. Bring bug spray!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Though the cabins are historic, they are not at all week maintained. There are cobwebs everywhere inside the cabin and lot of mosquitoes. The food was absolutely not worth the cost. We had ordered KPL burger and balanced chicken breast. The
- Peter (8/5): - The cabin was really rustic like living in the 1940's, with basic amenity. It was great staying in the middle of the National Park. It could use some cleaning and upgrading but maybe it would destroy the old time feel.
- Yusra (4/5): - The issue with this place is that it seems like they have never cleaned the rooms. There are stains on the bedding, spider webs everywhere e erything should be wiped down especially at a time like this.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved it here. It’s quiet and relaxing yet still close enough to get to Radium and Banff. Their food is amazing as well! Would happily return!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This rustic cabin was just what we needed when Kootenay National Park cancelled all camping for COVID-19. It’s not meant to be a 5-star luxury resort, but rather an authentic experience in living in a piece of history. It was warm, cozy and most importantly close to spectacular natural vistas. We would certainly not hesitate to come back again.
- Tracey Billings (4/5): quaint but would not recommend - The room was extremely Dusty rotten food and Advil pills under the microwave when you open the fridge door it would fall off the stand if you didn't catch it spiders in the room. When you stepped out of the bedroom you went downhill into the couch area. My husband dropped an unopened can of dog food and it rolled downhill to the front door.
- Anna (10/5): - The location was amazing and so was the whole property.
Totally Recommend a visit.
We had 3 cabins booked and unfortunately in one cabin, washroom's hot water service was down.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was as good as expected due to covid restrictions- friendly helpful staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the remote location, the quaint old historic log cabins and lodge. So cozy. Owners and staff were so friendly and down to earth. I wished we could have stayed longer. My only regret is that we were not able to try one of Merediths home cooked meals due to our travel plans. Next time!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the rustic appearance. Could hear road traffic on hwy93
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great place to go to get away from everything no cell service and very quiet. Cabins were nice and clean.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Did not stay second night. The cabin was not up to code , I have never seen a rental property in that condition before . Also price was way out there for the condition off property . We rented a place in Hinton for less per night it was clean newer building t.v. room service and full breakfast , coffee on all day and water . none of the condition where spelled out in the .advertising . The floor dirty , only trickle of warm out of shower did not use it . Electric extension cords used for most things . I was expecting a rustic cabin was not expecting a t.v. But what I got was an unsafe dump ,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very relaxing. Right beside a river in the middle of the mountains.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was unique to not have a tv or wifi in the room and nice for a change. The beds were great.
The negative is that the cabin we had had no fireplace and was in desperate need of upkeep.
- Brittany (10/5): Perfect Rustic Getaway - What an amazing little spot!! The food was delicious, the bed was super comfortable, the wood burning fireplace was great. Best rustic style stay ever! Would definitely recommend this place and we will be back for sure.
- Rachel (6/5): - There is a difference between rustic and rotten. This property needs some major renovation and maintence
- Andrew (2/5): Run and Tumbled down place - Arriving after along day
The lodge smelt of bad cigarette smoke.
Was dirty..
Two stained cups
No kettle
Min 45 min drive to get supplies in each direction..
Could only purchase a cup of milk at the shop for guests..
Whole area has been burnt through a few yrs back so all you look at is burnt trees on the mountain..
Main road a few feet from yr door
All you hear is the traffic especially lorries going by...
Unless you have got every provision you need for yr whole stay good luck...
The pics as the place are about 15 yrs out of date !!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Thé location is very nice, easy to find. The place was smaller or different than the one showed on line.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No shower, old bathroom, clean but uncomfortable bed. Ok food but very rushed. A unique funny experience but glad we were there only for one night.
- Misty (6/5): Rotten bathroom!! No shower I would ever use! - Bathroom was rotten ceiling falling in and broken toilet seat, no shower because taps fell off and it was scary in there. Dirty coffee pots and dusty everywhere. If the place was cleaned better and had a proper bathroom it would have been awsome. The area was stunning you can't ask for more. I would suggest paying for the newer cabin if you don't want an overpriced rotten dump. Such a shame I loved the lodge and the area too.
- Marc-André (8/5): - Old lodge with a lot of history! Very interesting to learn about its many adventures through time.
Cabins are almost true to their age.
If your brats are glued to their devices and YouTube, you're gonna have a bad time.
No cell signal in the area and wifi is questionable due to the size of the property.
This place is to feel what it was like in the back country days of old times. The view in the morning with the sun lighting up the mountains in front of the lodge is spectacular.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very cute, would be great for a longer stay. We, however, were on a tight timeline during a roadtrip and could only stay one night.
Fireplace and heater in cabin was required in August as it was really cold.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoyed our stay - A very unique place situated in one of the most incredible areas you could possibly stay. Hosts were welcoming and considerate. Restaurant was great with excellent meals. Cabin we stayed in was warm and comfortable. This is a place that lets you experience the Kootenay’s without too much of the outside world closing in. It’s obviously not a 5 star accommodation but it offers everything you need in a true mountain environment that our family very much enjoyed.
- Julian (8/5): - Wooden cabin -- a rather different experience (compared to your usual hotels) in a rather remote area in Kootenay National Park. Received email about two days before arrival to ensure that check-in would be smooth. Upon arrival, staff was very friendly and explained everything clearly and efficiently. Info booklet prepared by the owners was a very informative read, both for the establishment as well as the area around it. No cell service in this area, but appreciated the wifi at the lodge. We only stayed for a night so didn't try too hard to figure out how to get the propane heater to work, so were a bit cold at night and in the morning. But there was instruction in the info booklet as to how to use it, so we definitely won't hold this against the property. Learnt from the info booklet that there could be sightings of a variety of wildlife on the site of the lodge -- how cool is that! (You probably would need to stay longer though in order to have those encounters)
- joanne (8/5): First time vacation in Banff, Jasper - We like the lodge stayed there for 3 nights. It’s kind of the grids so you can’t get any WiFi in your room. You can connect at the front lodge or at the store. Kootenay Park Lodge is close driving to Banff and Lake Louise. It’s very beautiful drive to Banff National Park. Not too many eateries places so make sure to bring extra snacks. Comfortable bed, coffee maker and microwave, small fridge. I tried to eat at the lodge in the morning but nobody there inside the kitchen. We just headed on our way to Banff to eat and start our sightseeing adventure. If you are the type of out door adventures and like to hikes. This place is for you. No fancy. Little shower room.
- James (10/5): - Wonderful remote location in the middle of Kootenay National Park. Historic lodge, don't expect luxurious rooms - this is a rustic, traditional place. Restaurant food very good. Hotel also runs the store next door - good for breakfast and stocking up on basic supplies. Be midnful of walking alone in the local area - I found bear scat within a few yards of the hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The cabin did not match the photo in Expedia at all. It should state that these are 100 year old cabins. The lino in the kitchen and bathroom was lifting up; the shower walls were peeling paint; the shower floor was moldy; the toilet didn't flush (they provided us with a plunger!) and it wobbled fiercely when you sat on it; the fridge was broken; the taps in the kitchen leaked all night. Then there's the restaurant: we were served frozen hamburger patties and instant potatoes and breakfast was a cold sandwich at the convenience store.
Avoid this property at all costs.
- Esther (8/5): - The log cabin in the park. The bedding is really comfy & clean. The cabin itself needs a bit more cleaning from dust and hanging spiderwebs.
- Farooq (10/5): Would go back in a heartbeat - Wow. We were absolutely blown away by how much of a positive impact the outstanding operation of this place has on our stay. Food I. The restaurant was top notch. Facilities excellent. A perfect mountain getaway. At first we were worried about it being so close to the highway but it turns out you hardly notice it when you’re there. Close to so many activities we didn’t have enough time to get to them all.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We appreciated the historic value of the property and the natural setting. It is definitely "rustic" and rough around the edges. Knowing that and not expecting a modern cabin and furnishings, we were very comfortable. Our cabin had a very beautiful stone wood-burning fireplace, a comfortable bed, clean linens, and porch to relax on. The floor was uneven, the door didn't quite fit it's frame, and the bathroom was vintage era. The owners were very accommodating, and the restaurant serves good dinners. There is also a wonderful trail on the property. On our last day we had a bear visit us while we sat on our porch (close but not too close), a huge plus.
- KL (4/5): - Musty, no heat, dim, old run down cabin, bathroom so tiny.
Limited amenities!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is a gem, we stayed in cabin 1 and it was rustic and very comfortable. Upon arrival we had the privilege of seeing a black bear enjoying the berries that surround the property. Owners /Staff were very professional and calm as they coaxed the bear off the property. We watched from a distance on our patio as to give the bear natural space away from us humans. Later that evening we had dinner at the restaurant and the service and food was excellent, had a fabulous evening on the deck. While enjoying dinner we did witness asinine behavior of other guests. Presumably the original bear we had seen was across the very busy highway, enjoying the fruits of the land his/her home and these guests along with there children crossed the highway for a closer view (why chase down a bear) the bear must have looked up and we saw a couple of these children panic and run across the highway narrowly being missed by passing highway motorist. I say to these folks, unnecessarily putting your children, yourself and the bear at risk for a pictures is abhorrent. We had the opportunity to chat with Greg and Meredith the owners, a solid hardworking couple who provided us with a true mountain experience and kept things safe, natural and beyond friendly! We will be back each year to celebrate our anniversary and will also bring our children back to enjoy a cabin in the mountains. We give this place 5 stars and two thumbs up!!! Recommend to book ahead, this place fills up fast ?
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very unique location. Friendly and accommodating staff. These cute, rustic cabins are a great escape from the busy-ness. Loved the wood fireplace and restoration of these cabins. The lodge and food was very good.
- Nick (10/5): Well worth it, Cozy Cabins - My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed it thoroughly. Staff was very friendly and helpful in finding good trails to hike. Location was in the middle of the park and about equal distance to hot springs, Banff and Lake Louise.
Room was not as good as a Marriot, but it’s a log cabin in the middle of a national park... don’t expect that here. Bed was clean and very comfortable, best sleep we had in the trip (and we stayed in holiday inns and Marriott later). Shower is not great, but better than advertised on some reviews I read prior to booking. It’s good hot water and a wand, so even I could get a shower and i’m 6’3’’ and 300lbs. If I can fit comfortably, anyone can.
What couldn’t be beat is being able to be in the park at the middle of the night. Star gazing was incredible. Every morning we woke up to the mountains, and there is a river trail right at the lodge!
We ate one night in the restaurant and it wasn’t bad for the location. Wife really liked the pork chop, and the chutney board was good as well.
Again, staff was very pleasant and helpful. When we had some trouble with heating in first night it was fixed immediately, and never had issue again. The little shop at the lodge was also useful. Overall I would highly recommend staying here if you are interested in staying in the middle of a national park. It’s perfect and the owners and staff are as friendly as can be.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We booked the basic cabin (only one left) and it certainly was basic. We didnt realise, as there was nothing in the description, that the property is completely off grid. Internet is via satellite, power supply in the room was unbelievable, water comes from a well ....... The area is stunning and, as this is the only property for miles, there isnt really much choice
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Truly a historic resort with small rustic cabins and a fine restaurant in the lodge. We enjoyed the comfortable bed and tolerated the tiny bathroom as it reminded us of camp cabins from our youth. An unmarked trail runs along the river rapids behind the property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The cabin was very rustic and enjoyable, the hiking around the area was beautiful!! The Vermillion team were great and very personable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Loved the idea of this lodge. Property could use some updating for the price. Microwave didn’t work and coffee maker was broken. The beds and carpet were old and a good cleaning was in order. Felt like camping but dirtier.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Even with 4 months notice, KPL refused to meaningfully discuss a refund. Now i understand why. When I booked, photos on line were of their one new cabin. I didnt get that cabin. With representation like they must get refund requests all the time. I see there are more accurate photos on the site now. Do eat here!! Home made bread even better than my grandmother's!!!
- Sandip (6/5): Bamf - trip, everything else was terrific but .... - The amount that they charged no way justifies the amenities at the hotel. They say it is a kitchenette, but no kitchen towels, nothing to rinse the dishes with. There were mosquitos all over and my daughter and my wife had bites all over. The bathroom was terrible. Overall, it did not satisfy our expectations in any way.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cabins and main lodge are charming. Right on the highway Pros easy to find- cons road noise and traffic.
Be great if they had fire pits behind each cabin and a bit a lawn. Recommend this for the owner.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Kootenay Park Lodge Cabin - The lodge was conveniently located in beautiful Kootenay National Park at Vermillion Crossing. The cabin was VERY RUSTIC, in fact I could see the ground through gaps in the floor. The bed was clean and comfortable, but the bathroom, kitchen, and main room were not clean and smelled stuffy. The floor of the shower was covered with wood slats that were wet, slippery, and dirty. The lighting in the bathroom did not light up the shower. The kitchen sink was rusty, the faucet dripped, and there were cobwebs hanging from the kitchen ceiling. The heater in the main room was covered with dust and cobwebs. We had booked three nights, but we left after the first night (and did not use the shower). The owner told us that she would refund the two nights, if she was able to rent it. She did, communicated with us by email, and the refund appeared on our credit card the next week. She was very pleasant and professional.
- Joel (10/5): Love this rustic retreat!!! - If you like cool rustic cabins this place is fantastic! It’s a really neat place at the base of some scenic mountain peaks. The food in the lodge was great! The young couple and their amazing staff that run the place made us feel like family when we arrived. We spent the evenings sitting by the fire enjoying the view and the wildlife.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Rustic cabins. Nearly 100years old. Great history. The waitress/store attendant was extremely helpful and gave us excellent advice. Couldn't praise her more! Didn't catch her name but she was a young person from Australia.
- Lori (4/5): - Area and service were excellent. No hot water was disappointing. Were told that it would eventually come if the water was left running. Shower specifically needs to be renovated. A fair bit of mold at the base of our shower which is a health concern. Room could use a stronger light. Room was too rustic for the cost per night.
