Guest Reviews
- Terry (8/5): - Very clean room and the staff were pleasant and helpful.👍
- Michael (10/5): A Great Stay... - Absolutely loved our stay at The Queens Head Hotel! From the moment we stepped into the pub to the moment we checked out, the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming or attentive — they truly made us feel at home. The location is spot-on, right on the high street with loads of bars, restaurants, and shops just steps away.
Even though the hotel is connected to a lively pub, they close the back door after 9pm, so it’s perfectly peaceful in the rooms behind. We slept like babies! And the breakfast? Top-notch — delicious and satisfying.
If you’re looking for a warm, well-located place with fantastic service, I’d wholeheartedly recommend The Queens Head Hotel. Five stars all the way! 🌟
- Marc (10/5): - I was very impressed with the Queen's Head. Nice clean room in a great location in Higher Buxton. Housekeeping promptly every day. First-rate full English breakfast included.
My only complaint is that the room was rather small. There was no space to have an open suitcase, so I had to stuff it in a closet. That was a little inconvenient. Of course, I realize there is nothing they can do about that. It is an old building, and the room size is what it is.
- Mike (10/5): - Superb accommodation. Very clean, comfortable and spacious. Great shower. Perfect location10 minutes stroll to town and 30 mins walk to the brewery. Best thing about this place though is the staff - amazing - really friendly, helpful and kind. Great pub serving Jaipur, which is my favourite beer. Didn't take the opportunity to enjoy the live music as we were there for rest but we would take it up next time we stay. Btw don't be put off by late night music. The rooms are very very quiet. Window open all night and no noise from the street either
Thank you to everyone who made our stay incredible. And thank you to Ian for the drinks. We will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Buxton.
- Jane (10/5): Lovely Weekend in Buxton - Lovely stay in Buxton, went to the Opera House so stayed over, some lovely coffee shops and places to eat out
- Graham (8/5): Friendly, comfortable and clean accommodation. - The room was in an annexe at the rear of the pub. It had tea and coffee making facilities, large TV, storage and double bed.
The room was clean and comfortable. The en suite shower room was modern and clean. The shower was good with plenty of room to move around. Complimentary shower gel and shampoo was also provided. I was particularly pleased that the toilet was quite high as I have a bad leg and often find it difficult to get off low toilet seats.
Staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was very good with a selection of cereal, fruit juice, full English and plenty of toast. Extra toast was offered if you wanted it.
There was a band on in the bar on Saturday night and it was very busy but you couldn't hear a thing in your room. Very well sound proofed.
Having said that there was a very loud rumbling noise every so often that seemed to be under the room. I'm not sure what it was but I could only guess it was some roller shutters or gates opening and closing in the yard. Perhaps a warning about this might be a good idea. It made jump the first time I heard it.
All in all an enjoyable stay in a clean, friendly hotel.
- Ansel (4/5): - Not accessible. Property is old and there are no lifts. Inconvenient to get luggage up and down to the rooms. Parking is a nightmare around the property. Rooms are overpriced for what you get for, would recommend larger, more well-known brands instead.
- Jean (8/5): - Lovely clean room. Very pleasant and welcoming staff. Good location. Numerous good nearby breakfast/ dining places. Although it does not have it's own parking you can park for free in nearby streets.
- Lee (10/5): - Comfortable bed, clean room, and wonderful service. This gorgeous little hotel had everything I needed and most importantly dedicated staff who made my stay comfortable and welcoming.
- Jane (8/5): Good location. - Last minute booking, so not much time researching. Room was small but clean, tea and coffee making facilities. Shower was good and. Could not hear the live band that was playing, but had some noise off the street. Would have scored more but the staff were a bit rude when I asked for extra pots of milk. Good location, only on street parking.
- M (10/5): Overnight Stay - Short stay in Buxton. Great location. Small but comfy clean room with comfortable bed. Great breakfast.
- John (8/5): An excellent place to stay for a couple of nights - Easy check-in and friendly staff showing me to my room and instructing me to let him know if there was anything I required during my stay. Room, which is separate to the main pub, was adequate in size and facilities with a very good shower in the bathroom. The hotel is close to the market square where there is a good choice of restaurants, shops and cafes, and it's easy to find breakfast if you decide not to have it in the hotel. It's also only a short 10-15 minute walk to the lower town with all the spa facilities and attractive buildings, although lookout for extortionate tourist prices around there!
- Laura (8/5): - The accommodation was lovely, would like to say thankyou for the fan in the room because it was so warm
- Chris (8/5): - The accommodation is around the back of the pub and was very good. The pub itself was not the best in Buxton so we went elsewhere. No parking and we got a ticket for parking nearby but the hotel were great when we raised it and compensated us.
- David (10/5): Great stay in Buxton - Location and facilities great, as were the staff and management. Breakfast was one of the best ever. Buxton is a fabulous place, and we will go there again and stay at the Queens Head.
- Aran (10/5): Great venue with live Music at the weekend - A lovely hotel which is masked by a traditional pub frontage. The rooms which are at the back of the pub in a purpose built buildings are spacious and clean. The pub has great live bands on every Friday and Saturday evenings.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean en suite room. Buxton - Happy with hotel. Nice clean room with TV and kettle. En suite. Comfy bed.
- Lawrence (8/5): - Ok for a one night stay
- Anna (8/5): - Great location, right in the town centre. Very modern and clean. Easy to control the temperature of the room.
Downside: low shower pressure and no parking. A council car park is a minute walk away which is fine but the app didn't work and I had to go and pay again after 6pm in order to pay for the morning.
- Rosemary elaine (10/5): - Excellent service
- Geraldine (8/5): - Good no frills accommodation.
A luggage rack would be useful.
- Wendy (10/5): - Staff were absolutely all, friendly, helpful and went out of their way for you. Pip was really helpful and does such a good job. We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was delicious and cooked so well. The service too was excellent too. The young lady was polite and efficient. All round excellent team.
- Karen (8/5): - The room is attached to a lovely pub, situated at the back of the beer garden. Not much noise and, and the garden is closed at 10pm to respect people staying there.
The room was large with a huge bed.
32 inch TV with Sky channels.
Lovely shower room.
Breakfast is served in the pub in the morning. The full English was tasty and came with toast too.
If I had any complaint it would be the bed was not the most comfortable but didnt stop my sleep.
There was live music in the pub on the evening I stayed, everyone was very friendly.
- Stephen (10/5): - Very clean and modern annexe behind the pub. Unexpectedly quiet. Hauling a heavy suitcase up the stairs to the bedrooms was a bit challenging, but I'd definitely stay there again. Breakfast options were rather limited, but if you like a fried breakfast you're catered for!
- Miko (10/5): - Clean rooms and friendly service. Basic accommodation for a fair price. Very popular and lively pub. Well sound proofed so the noise from the pub doesn’t interfere with your sleep on weekends. We stayed here for a wedding at the pavilion gardens and were happy with our choice
- Lesley (10/5): - Amazing accomodation within minutes from the Opera house.Staff brilliant very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us
- philip (6/5): - old plaster in bed skirting needs cleaning Breakfast not the best same as a travel lodge
- Lawrence (8/5): - Ok, for a one night stay, especially if you like your sport
- Ellen (10/5): - Lovely small hotel where we were made to feel very welcome by every member of staff without exception. Convenient and a short walk to the opera house.
- christopher (6/5): - small room, lovely brand-new shower room, overpriced .
- Alexander (8/5): - The accommodation was separate from the Pub, and there was no noise from the Live music on Saturday night.
However, the 5 piece band was really good in my opinion. The atmosphere was lively, but the crowd was really friendly
- Linda (10/5): - A lovely place to stay. Very clean and the bed was super comfy. Everything was so close by and lots to see and do. Thanks for a great stay, we’ll be back..!!
- Anne (10/5): - The room was very comfortable and the staff couldn't be faulted. Breakfast was delicious and served promptly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nicely places and ok.
- Paul (8/5): - Comfortable and clean room. Helpful staff.
- Alan (10/5): - Lovely welcome, good soundproofing, bed a little small probably book twin beds next time.
- Diana (8/5): - A basic pub but with rooms across a courtyard which were fine.Breakfast (optional) was a bit expensive but nice. No other meals available. Staff were friendly. Conveniently located, Pavilion Gardens a 5 minute stroll down the hill (and 10 minutes climb back up). Good for keeping fit.
- Philip (10/5): - The accommodation in separate flats in an old building is excellent and quiet, and the Hotel is fairly close to the middle of Buxton, with plenty of eating places around.
- EILEEN (8/5): Good for hotel standard - Location fine for buxton opera house. 10 minutes walk
Good breakfast
Staff helpful
Room very small but for 1 night it suited us well
Shower powerful clean and hot
Easy to use car park Market Street with overnight parking with reasonable rates 2 minutes walk away
- Joyce (10/5): Central location - Overnight stay in separate accommodation at the rear of the pub. Nice clean room, comfortable bed, modern bathroom. Central location in Buxton.
No parking but we used the car park nearby and it was only ÂŁ4.70 for 24 hours.
- Hugh (8/5): - Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Made a real difference to have happy staff at breakfast. Accomodation with breakfast good value. Excellent location. Room small but functional, comfortable and clean with housekeeping daily as default.
- Lloyd (6/5): Nice weekend in Buxton. - Good accommodation attached to a high street pub. Can't fault the accommodation, very clean and new looking, very comfy bed. There was a Band on Saturday night, but couldn't hear them from the room. Only downside was breakfast was served in the Pub, which smelt like a Pub, however the England game was on the night before, i won't mark it down though as the isa lovely cafe just across the road.
- Suzanne (10/5): - Staff extremely helpful and polite. Our room was spotless, comfy bed very modern. Lovely cooked breakfast excellent service.
- Pamela (8/5): - I liked that the accommodation was in a fairly new, I would say, building at the back of the pub’s yard. It was very modern and clean and I was very comfortable. Great bed!
I was just a little disappointed that breakfast was only full English or parts of but the pub is close enough to cafes where I could find what I wanted. The staff were really lovely and responded so well to my extra requests.
- mary (10/5): - I like the location of the accommodation, it was easy to move around as it is a walking distance to the train station and tbere is virtually everything i need around, from shops to restaurants.
- Patrick (10/5): Great location and lovely staff - Staff were lovely and the room was clean and perfect for our one night stay. We asked for a late checkout which they obliged. thanks to all.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable hotel - This is a pub with 12 rooms behind it in another building. A courtyard separates them. My room was of modest size and very clean. The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. It has no parking lot; you have to pay in a public parking nearby. If you don’t want to move your car, there are two good pubs across the street for dinner. They offer a full English breakfast cooked individually, and you can have more or less of the individual items in it. There is no phone in the room. If you have a question, use your cell phone to reach the front desk.
- Clive (8/5): - Good entertainment (Friday / Saturday). Good choice of drinks, excellent position close to other eateries / pubs. Friendly staff.
3rd stay, and still impressed.
- Daniel (10/5): - Hotel is right in the heart of Buxton, a convenient walk from the station. It was absolutely buzzing the whole time we were there - bands both nights, live sport in the day, but with the rooms being in a separate building out the back of the pub, it was amazingly quiet after the yard had been emptied. Clean throughout, staff were friendly.
- Sara (10/5): Quality accommodation - My second stay here and again cannot fault anything.
Spotless, fresh smelling comfortable room.
Had everything we needed.
(Apparently they do a great breakfast but we didn't partake )
Would I stay again? Absolutely.
- Richard (8/5): - Breakfast was excellent. Staff friendly. Stayed here to explore Ilan and the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, functional accommodation. Well situated in Buxton for lots of restaurants etc. Plenty of hot water & very cosy. We enjoyed our stay, although the mattress was a bit too firm for our liking.
Bar staff were friendly and helpful when checking in.
- Mike (8/5): - staff were excellent
- Julie (10/5): - This was our second stay at The Queen's Head. The pub and accommodation are fabulous. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast. We will certainly be coming back again.
- Cheryl (10/5): Fantastic! - Cozy pub hotel with great amenities and awesome location for Buxton!
We stayed overnight at the queen's head and couldn't be happier with the room we got. It It was cozy although the mattress was a little soft for my taste, still slept like a log! Really central location for Buxton and was not far from the theater.
- Nigel (10/5): Hospitality brilliant - Great place to stay in Buxton, right at the heart, walking distance to most places but taxi rank 1 min walk as well
- Robert (10/5): - We were surprised how good the hotel was Easy. check in, nice room, good breakfast and easy check out. Staff were great.
- Yvonne (10/5): - Efficient, friendly people, welcoming and polite
- C (10/5): Friendly pub/hotel with great rooms - Don’t let the front deceive you - the rooms at the back of the pub in a separate annex building are excellent. The owner was really accommodating and let us store our bikes in his secure lockup which was great .
We loved the lively pub and the breakfast was just what we needed .
The whole place looks like it’s going through a renovation programme and they are doing a brilliant job
Great service
- Heather (10/5): Relaxing stay - Though the bar was very busy with customers (football match was on tv), Tom offered to carry our bags up to our room, which i was very grateful for. Our room was at the back of the hotel, appeared freshly decorated and fitted out, clean and modern. There was a live band on one of the nights and though the hotel was very busy and noisy, this did not travel to our room. We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment on this. Can recommend this hotel as a lovely central base for exploring Buxton.
- David (10/5): - Nice stay.
- Eric (10/5): - My room had a private entrance and was really nice - except it had very little storage - just one deep closet with a shelf and a hanger bar, plus another shelf over the staircase. I managed to make it work, and then didn't worry about it any more. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were very good. Thanks!
- Kate (8/5): Small room, lovely staff, good location - Nice room, a bit small but clean and cosy. Steep stairs up to the room wouldn’t be suitable for everyone. Bed was comfy enough. Despite being right next to the pub, the room was quiet and I wasn’t disturbed at all. Good location. Staff were friendly and keen to help.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Queens Head - Simply perfect for a romantic break
- Janet (8/5): - We only stayed for one night but this accommodation more than suited our needs. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, location was great. Definitely recommend.
- John (10/5): - Beautiful room, lovely location, very friendly staff and fantastic breakfast.
- Donna (10/5): Comfortable Room, great breakfast - Lovely welcoming and friendly staff, great breakfast, quiet room, comfy bed - fairly basic, but lovely and clean with good bathroom/shower en-suite. Would stay again.
- Kian (10/5): Great place right in the centre - My room was separate from the pub just out the back which was good for quietness, not that it was loud anyway. A very clean and modern room with sky tv. The staff were very friendly and helpful but left you to it. Breakfast was spot on too with cereal and a full English on offer. No parking available on site but there is a car park literally 30 seconds away. The hotel is perfectly located too, with the town centre 5 min walk away. Highly recommend and would stay again.
- Daniel (10/5): Gem of a place. Staff are amazing - Extremely well run pub with entertainment thurs, fri and sat. Behind pub is courtyard with rooms. Really quiet, spotless and modern. Breakfast delicious and staff so accommodating. Made to feel like a local here, so welcome. Short walk from centre but lots of other pubs snd restaurants in immediate vicinity including a great Indian opposite the Taj Mahal. Will definitely be returning
- Kathleen (10/5): - One night stop over.
Would definitely recommend.
Hearty breakfast too
- Gary (10/5): The Queens Head - Buxton - Great pub stay. The room was in an annexe just off the beer garden at the back. It was comfortable and suited our needs perfectly. It was warm, quiet (stayed a Tues night) and the room was in excellent condition. Parking was off-site but there were a couple of paid nearby car parks. Its in an excellent location to walk down to the Buxton Opera House.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No onsight parking lets this location down badly. We had to park in a location away from the hotel and pay for the privilege. The pub itself wasn't very inviting as it desperately needs a makeover. The room we stayed in made up for those shortcomings. It was very clean and comfortable.
- Julie (8/5): Night out in Buxton - For a 1 night stay it was good. Staff were lovely and friendly. Local pub with rooms, live band at the weekend and very popular.
- Donna (8/5): Buxton - Very clean and comfortable. Quick check in.
Room was downstairs next to main door so was very noisy from 5.30am as presume workman staying in place. Woke us up.
- Claire (10/5): - Excellent one night business stay. The rooms are separate from the pub building, behind the beer garden, and there was zero noise from the pub. Room had everything I wanted: very clean, comfy bed, good shower, good kettle. I would stay here again during the week, but I would make sure it wasn't a gig night as that might be a bit noisy. There might also be a bit more noise during summer if people are in the beer garden.
- Margaret (8/5): - Stayed only 1 night instead of 2 had to go home due to personal reasons . Hotel was fine very clean and our room very quite but stairs up to it a little awkward for a couple of golden oldies . We managed though . Sta ff very helpful .
- Lindsey (10/5): Great stay - The rooms are lovey, very clean and modern. Service throughout was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, it was full English but you could have any combination of those things like scrambled eggs on toast for example.
- Clive (8/5): Bank Holiday Break - Seems to be the popular pub for locals not eating. Good entertainment over Aug Bank Holiday weekend.
Although our room was closest to the main building, no issue with noise.
Centrally placed in the town.
- Pat (8/5): Parking Ticket - Room was very nice. 1st night, bath plug wouldn't stay in, reported it next morning, but when I got back for my second and last night it hadn't been fixed, so no bath again.
Carpark closed 1st night for market, in the dark had to find a side street, next morning had a parking ticket. I'm 75 years old, drove 250 miles on my own and didnt feel very welcome in Buxton, I would have liked to come back.
Staff at the Queens head were lovely.
- Brian (10/5): Great place, great value. - Great place, busy friendly pub with nice clean modern rooms that are situated away from the main part of the pub so very quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and comfortable room, ideal for short stay - Clean and comfortable room, ideal for short stay
- Andrew (10/5): - We came to Buxton Festival in the July 2022 heatwave. Althought we knew this hotel from previous visits, it was a delight to find it air-conditioned.
- James (8/5): Comfortable and cool stay - Hi our stay was just for a night in the heat wave our room was clean, comfortable and most important it was lovely and cool and stayed consistently like that all through the night. My wife appreciated that they had also put a fan in the room as well. The breakfast was good too. Plus the staff were very helpful and pleasant.
- Angela (10/5): Top Marks for this Hotel - Our stay was really good. The room was spotless and nicely decorated as was the bathroom which had a lovely shower and a bath. The breakfast was very good. The staff were all very efficient and welcoming.
- Gordon (10/5): Excellent - Nothing was too much for the staff.
The pub itself had some decent live music. Staff gave good ideas where to visit nearby
Booked already for another trip
- andrew (10/5): - Clean and friendly
- Matthew (8/5): Surprisingly quiet - Although the Queen's Head has regular live music, it didn't affect our stay. The room, which overlooks the courtyard behind the pub, was quiet, even on a lively Saturday night.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, providing extra milk, for example.
The breakfast was fine.
We used our stay as a base for a wedding in the town but it is well placed for visiting Buxton and the surrounding countryside, which is beautiful.
- Ken (8/5): Very Clean & Tidy - Very nice and clean room, although slighty on the small size rooms, but very clean and everything required for a short stay.
- STEVEN (10/5): - Very clean, comfy bed and great breakfast!
- tim (10/5): - nice room, scruffy surroundings
- Jackie (10/5): - Wonderful stay, room was spotless, no noise considering it is part of a very busy pub and the breakfast was fantastic. Staff very helpful, nothing too much trouble, absolute gem of a place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent stay - thank you! - booked the Queens Head fairly last minute with a friend to spend the day walking in the Peak District. It's in a great location, only 20 minutes away from where we went to, Castleton.
We spent the evening in the pub where the staff were incredibly friendly. There was a live band on (Girl Gone Bad - would also recommend them!) and there was a brilliant atmosphere. If you didn't want to be where the band were there are other parts of the pub to be in too. The evening was great fun!
Our room was everything you could want for a night's stay, spacious, tidy and comfortable. The pub and hotel aspect were very clean and well presented.
We had the breakfast the following morning which was delicious. Again, the staff were just so friendly and there was always a nice, relaxed vibe. Everyone we spoke to was nothing but polite and helpful.
Every aspect of the pub and hotel from booking to leaving was faultless, I'll defintiely be coming back again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room was clean and tidy but the pub was dark drab and uninviting
- Callum (10/5): Would 100% stay here again. - The staff were welcoming and friendly, the room was perfect and despite being next to the pub we had no problems with noise throughout our stay. The room was the perfect size with everything we needed and having Sky on the TV was also a nice touch. I highly recommend this hotel.
- Helen (10/5): great stay - Lovely! cosy ,clean, warm, sky tv, we both had 2 great nights sleep very peaceful even with bands on Friday and Saturday night, we couldn't hear them at all when we went to bed. the staff were brilliant too, we can't fault it and will defiantly be returning.
- IAN (10/5): - Great place not too be missed
- Samantha (10/5): - Lovely stay staff were really helpful and room lovely and comfy and clean … don’t be deceived by the pub frontage the hotel is lovely would definitely stay again .
- paul (6/5): - Should of checked, didn’t do food but did let me have a takeaway in the pub.
Room clean and tidy, with full sky tv . Only problem very loud noise from walking in upstairs rooms, can hear people talking etc so didn’t sleep well at all.
- Craig (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely room separate from the pub.
Lovely service, simple check in and out
- Karl (2/5): - Awful, the toilet was broken, there was blood on the bedding. In 50 years it’s the first time I’ve ever driven back home, Totally disappointed.
