Even though their system went down on the morning of mothers day, and they lost all pre-orders, everything went extremely smoothly and not one mistake made or negative comment to make. All 16 of us had a wonderful mothers day and would return again!

Everything was so well organised, from the booking right through to the meal itself. The communication with the venue beforehand was great and they made sure we had a really suitable spot. It’s also very dog-friendly, which we loved because our dog is part of the family too. Parking was really easy as well, which made the whole visit even more relaxed. The staff were absolutely superb and really looked after us the whole time. It’s such a beautiful venue and the food was outstanding. Everyone had an amazing meal. We’re already looking forward to visiting again!

Prices for both food and drink were on the high side but no complaints on the quality. The weather was very cold outside and it was noticeably chilly inside. This was mentioned to a member of staff but it was not possible to resolve this situation.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was lovely! Can’t even describe the vibe of the hotel, it was so charming and had so much character. The room was really clean and the perfect size for us. We heard absolutely no outside noise. We’ve both said it was the best nights sleep we have had in months! Considering the price we paid, I was so pleasantly surprised and can’t wait to return - we have recommended this hotel to everyone! We would love to try out the other hotels in the chain too!

- Haverfordwest (10/5): Great location, gorgeous rooms and exceptional service. - Great location for visiting Burford. Just a short stroll around the corner and you’re faced with the beautiful Cotswold stone cottages. We stayed for 2 nights with our dog, eating in the bar on both days. Delicious food and excellent service. All the staff we encountered were knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We stayed in one of the family suites which was gorgeous, with a coffee machine and beautiful toiletries with tasteful decor. What’s not to love.
- Sam88lv (10/5): Lovely hotel serving excellent food - Characteristic hotel with atmospheric dining area and snug . We were a group of 6 friends that meet up every year for an overnight stay in the Cotswolds. The bedrooms were very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean with coffee maker and tea facilities. The kitchen at the Prince of Burford is currently being renovated and they are running a limited menu from a mobile unit, However we were all pleasantly surprised at the quality and good choice of food considering the situation. The pie was delicious and all the food very much enjoyed it was clean plates all round. The breakfast was by far the nicest we've experienced beautifully cooked and presented it's most certainly compliments to the chef. Every single member of staff were friendly and helpful it is an absolute credit to the hotel. Day of arrival restaurant manager was curtious with great service. A special mention to (we think) Robert from Johannesburg duty manager who served us at breakfast. He was professional, friendly and attentive, nothing being too much trouble. It was a refreshing experience and we highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for such a lovely stay.
- Afshan7 (10/5): Great stay at Prince of Burford - I had booked 2 rooms soon after Christmas for a couple of nights . We had a delightful experience staying at Prince of Burford. One of the rooms got upgraded at check-in to a suite which was great as it was my son’s birthday and I managed to give that room to him. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was delicious on both mornings with a number of cooked options to choose from on their menu. On the first morning I asked them if they could bring something over so we could wish my son happy birthday and they brought a delicious mince pie with a candle. Such a lovely start to celebrating his birthday. Rooms were very comfortable. I was really happy with the location as well as it’s very close to Burford town. I would highly recommend a stay here.

- njader2026 (6/5): Slow - I booked a table online for our family to have breakfast. Table was booked for 9:15. We arrived on time and our table was ready, set up in the bar area. We had to help ourselves to a menu as no one offered us one. After about 10 minutes of waiting I had to ask of if we could order. The 3 staff members on were nice but I have to say, so slow. The drinks took an age to come. Our food finally arrived at 10:05am! Ridiculous considering we got there at 9:15. Food was ok, nothing special. Average. Disappointed in the experience.

Never experienced this in my life, as a seasoned traveller, big queue of people waiting to check in, not very welcoming and very inconvenient, not impressed. Carpets throughout the premises were heavily stained and our bedroom carpet was the same, not pleasant! General cleanliness, I felt, was not up to scratch. Service at breakfast was extremely slow, we waited 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. On arrival, I would describe it as a very small portion. Staff were very pleasant and friendly and The gentleman who checked us in was lovely and very kind. Overall, we didn't enjoy our experience and for this reason, I would never return; I'm a frequent visitor to the Cotswolds and this was my worst experience. Come on Butcombe Breweries, pull your socks up, this venue is in prime location in Burford and full of potential... Address the carpet issue.

The turkey had a sourness to it and the service, although friendly and helpful, was slow. Probably as a result of the date. I have no doubt that this experience was probably unusual for this pub, but just reviewing this experience.

The food was absolutely lovely, and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and perfectly festive. Chris, Mig, Amy, and the whole team were incredible – attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring despite it being such a busy day. They even went out of their way with a few thoughtful gestures of kindness, which made the experience feel extra special. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend Christmas Day and would highly recommend it.

- M6761FLjadew (2/5): Shockingly bad - We stayed for one night on 11th December, and unfortunately it was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had. On arrival, we were very bluntly told that we didn’t have a booking. After some confusion, the receptionist eventually found it and apologised, but it wasn’t a great start. The room itself was dark, dingy, and unclean. The carpets were so badly stained and dirty that we didn’t dare take our shoes off. As a couple who never wear shoes at home, this made the stay extremely uncomfortable. Breakfast was equally disappointing. There were no beans or hash browns included with the so-called English breakfast, and the service was very strange. When I asked for a latte, I was told they hadn’t received their coffee bean delivery. However, around ten minutes later, the table next to us ordered two lattes along with a bespoke breakfast. When I queried this with another staff member, I was again told there were no coffee beans available. It was obvious that only filter coffee was included with the bed and breakfast rate, but instead of explaining this, we were repeatedly lied to. Had we been told the truth, I would have happily paid extra. We were then left sitting at the table with dirty plates for around 30 minutes, at which point we decided to leave, check out early, and salvage the day elsewhere. Thankfully, we spent the afternoon at Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, which completely turned the trip around and was the highlight of our visit to Burford. The bedding was also very poor. The pillows felt like socks stuffed inside them and were certainly not duck feather pillows or Egyptian cotton as advertised and as we are used to at home. Overall, the pictures are extremely deceiving. We most definitely would not stay here again — even if we were paid to do so. Avoid.

- Discover36321888984 (8/5): A good lunch at a nice venue. - Nice venue. Made very welcome when we arrived. Service was good Sadly for both of us our first choice was sold out, but we both had a second choice which was available. Food very nice. Will go again and recommend.
- Honeymalibu (4/5): Very poor room and dreadful breakfast - Dreadful value for money. Over £400 For two nights. Room just SO dark and the two centre chandeliers were hopelessly big and gave no light at all. The wardrobe doors hard to open and inside was a large fold up bed and large stand alone fan which left very little room for clothes or shoes. Nowhere for our cases as large rubber plant and two large vases took up space. Bathroom equally bad as no shelf for toothbrushes etc nowhere at all to rest things as basin very small as well. Also no light over mirror and dim light overall. The view from the room was awful too. Just a flat roof with air conditioning units on either side which “hummed” all the time and further view was the car park. The breakfast was a total joke. So limited. You couldn’t have juice and cereal - had to pick just one. In fact no cereal at all anyway. Just a muesli yoghurt berry concoction which the surly waiter said came as a whole thing and couldn’t be separated. There was only sour dough toasted bread - no plain white or brown. There were croissants and pain au chocolates but you couldn’t have two if you were having anything off cooked menu. In all breakfast was the worst we’ve ever had. Would not recommend this hotel at all.

- YPROSSER (8/5): We will be back in 2026 - Our first visit to the Prince of Burford but it certainly will not be our last. All the staff were welcoming, friendly and polite. Our room was very comfortable and well equipped and our evening meal was excellent with plenty of choice and locally sourced, the breakfast was too. Overall from start to finish we had a most enjoyable stay.

Such a welcoming reception, who showed us to our room, which was divine. Super cosy and super comfy. The place is brimming with quintessentially English charm. We stayed for dinner, which was so delicious ahd breakfast the next was equally perfect. We cant wait to stay again.
- timbo2018 (8/5): Great Hotel - The Prince of Burford is well situated for a walk into the impressive village of Burford also just off the A40 ,so is close to The Farmers Dog pub and a good base to explore the surrounding area. The staff were excellent and a real credit to the hotel. We found the breakfast superb and enjoyed a quality evening meal in the dining room and is great value on a Wednesday as 25% off the food. The hotel is full of character and has a great vibe. The room was not the biggest but adequate for our stay. The only area I would say that could be improved was the carpet in some of the general areas was a bit tired. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to others. We will definitely stay again when visiting this area.

- Y959VPjong (10/5): Welcoming and atmospheric hotel with great facilities - Our experience was great from start to finish. We had several rooms booked here the night before a family wedding. On arrival we got a warm and friendly welcome which included a complimentary drink at the bar. We had a snug room, which was understandably compact, but tastefully decorated and with great facilities - including a TV which seemed to have free access to a couple of apps, though we only used iPlayer. Everything was spotlessly clean. A nice touch was that when we went into the room for the first time a lamp was on and the radio was playing, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Although the hotel is near to a busy road junction we weren't really aware of the traffic and got a good night's sleep. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was first rate. We were advised that it is quietest between 8-9 so we ate then. A good range of options is available. We had an Eggs Benedict and a Shakshuka, both of which were delicious. The bride to be had one of the suites and was given a late checkout so she and the other ladies could have their hair and makeup done. The hotel was very accommodating about this, including taking a lovely breakfast to the room. We felt the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
- garydholford (4/5): Disappointing Return Visit - We stayed at the Prince of Burford 18 months ago and had a good stay, so we expected the same experience again. Unfortunately it proved not to be so with a number of issues impacting the quality of our stay. On the last morning we were woken at 7.30am by the maintenance man adjusting a door in the hotel, drills, hammers the lot before opening and closing the door loudly a dozen times to make sure it fitted just right! Our Courtyard room was ok, except the door had light showing all the way around it with resulting draft. Food in the dining room was very good, service was chaotic, one of our meals was served to another table, waitress was very apologetic and meal was discounted but this was after they had run out of the main fish dish by 7pm which seemed poor. Breakfast (downgraded from the dining room to the bar since the last time I was there) was the icing on the cake. We stayed 3 nights and on the first morning I saw some lovely full English breakfasts being served, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, black pudding etc. So on the second day I ordered it and out came a small shadow of the meals I had seen, 1 sausage/egg, no black pudding and bacon that resembled a pork scratching and shattered when pressed with a knife. Eventually replacement bacon arrived after everything else had been consumed. After a review of the menu with the waiter I am told that the breakfast I had seen was only available to walk in guests only! So your paying/staying guests only get half a full English and no offer of an upgrade should you want to feel set up for the day! There was also a feeling that only the minimum was offered to you for other items, including juices, unless you asked for it nothing was going to be forthcoming. So overall I'm left feeling disappointed with our return visit and am not sure i will be making a third visit at any time.

Bar no fireplace or candles. Lacking ambience. Restaurant food amazing. Service amazing. But it’s such a shame that the music being played was current pop. Again taking away from atmosphere. Total lost opportunity. What any side jazz? Or international? Or chill ? Not sure. Just not what they played at dinner.

Great location with parking (sometimes it's limited and can get busy but we had space when we had a noon booking). Dog friendly in the bar area and outside. Lovely calm atmosphere, good decor. Food was tasty and fresh and a great selection/options. Honestly, the staff made our trip. Friendly, polite, professional, hard working. Outstanding service. Thank you.

The service was ridiculously slow and the food wasn’t really worth the wait. My Liver and Bacon was lovely, but my wife’s main and sweet were tasteless and my dessert didn’t live up to the billing in the menu. When there are so many good eateries in Burford I see no reason to visit the Cotswold Gateway Hotel.

The staff were very helpful and offered to do it all again but they were so busy we didn’t want to wait. They did re do the cold fries though. There was a loyalty scheme but they didn't explain it so i have probably lost out on a lot of points. But otherwise excellent.

- xtine-kareema (10/5): Wonderful Experience at The Prince of Burford - From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredible, they sat us down and even advised us on items not on the menu so we wouldn’t be disappointed later. The ambience was lovely, giving that proper English pub feel, and even though it was busy, it still felt private and relaxed. The food was fantastic, and the portions were generous. Every dish was full of flavour and perfectly seasoned. I had the crayfish starter, which was incredible!!! The seasoning and tangy flavour were spot on. For my main, I had the roast beef, cooked perfectly and again, the portion was excellent. By the end of the meal, we felt completely at home. It was the kind of place you could happily spend the whole afternoon in. Highly recommend!

- nancyoX6303RD (6/5): Spiders and Spider Webs Above Beds in Guest Rooms - We stayed at The Prince of Burford Inn. We were in a tiny, quaint room on the top floor. No lift so the person checking us in carried my luggage up all the stairs. As we were getting ready for bed, I noticed a big spider in the top ceiling corner near my bed. Then I saw a huge black spider in a huge web right above the picture over my bed. I had to go down and get the manager to come and take care of the spiders. No telephones in the room. He was very apologetic. He had to bring up a small ladder or stand on my bed to reach the spiders . It turns out there were extensive spider webs higher in the room that were hard to see. I know it’s an old inn but spider webs right above the beds could be avoided with better housekeeping. Use a vacuum on the high ceilings and try to keep the spiders outside. It creeped me out.

The bedroom was very crowded with things like a large plant taking up space in a corner and books on display which took up room on bed side tables . Could do with more sockets as a bit of a nuisance plugging in hair dryer and straighteners with plugs being down at floor level. Breakfast was a disappointment. We expected help yourself buffet to start with fresh fruit, yogurts, juice, cereals but nothing, Handed a menu to choose a main. The scrambled eggs were a bit strange looking . The staff were all lovely and the meal on Friday night was very good.

We had been driving fast cars at Abingdon Airfield and by 2:00pm, had worked up quite an appetite. All round it didn’t disappoint, superb in every aspect from the surroundings, the friendly, welcoming staff, to the actual food which was first rate. Now planning another trip there with my Wife so that she can savour the experience too.

- clarebarnett32 (8/5): Overall a pleasant stay, could do with some slight tweaks. - We stayed with my little dog, room was on the second floor, stairs quite steep so a bit of a climb for older guests, room was comfortable, good size bathroom with excellent size shower and body wash, hand wash etc, iron & ironing board, complimentary tea, coffee & water, radio & tv in room. Carpets on landing could do with cleaning, they are marked and stained in places. Breakfast was not what we are used to when we are in a hotel, a bit limited on what you can have, usually you have a range of cereals, yoghurt, fruits and cooked breakfast, this was a little restricted, good quality produce though. Unfortunately for us there were overnight roadworks right outside on both nights which affected our sleep, wish we had known about this beforehand. Overall a pleasant stay but not the best.

We had dinner and breakfast here, and the staff on both days were attentive, personable, and more than willing to make adjustments for multiple allergies, intolerances, and disabilities. It's too often that restaurants and hotels make customers feel like an inconvenience, but PoB staff were more than happy to make adjustments with complete understanding and kindness. In the evening in particular our waitress Harriet was incredibly attentive and ready to help and advice the whole evening through. On top of that, the food was delicious! As always, very impressed with the staff here and can't wait to come back next year!

- John (8/5): - We stayed for one night. We loved the Sunday roast; cooked perfectly, arranged meticulously on the plate, and plenty of delicious items. A+. The pub was also nice, they were short-staffed but very friendly. The entire staff were incredibly nice and friendly, except the gentleman at the reservation desk. He didn't smile, appeared overwhelmed, and ignored us when we passed him in the hall. We waited 45 minutes to check-in and part of that was because he forgot we were sitting there. He appeared to enjoy surfing the internet, but not the guests. Fortunately, the rest of the staff were amazing. Parking was tight due to the Sunday roast, so we had to wait to check in. The rooms were a B to a B-; we had a broken toilet seat and someone had failed to flush their "release" before turning the room over to us. I would definitely eat here again, but I have misgivings about whether I would stay or look elsewhere.

Bottled water was provided & a bottle of milk. We had dinner and breakfast & both were good. The property is a short walk from the wonderful Burford high street. A real find.

The restaurant area was not too noisy (important for someone with hearing aids!), staff were attentive and friendly, menu is not the most extensive but as it explains, they attempt to buy locally and seasonally. The meal itself was great, well cooked and sufficient quantity without being excessive. Cost was in line with what we expected.

- tapl (10/5): Charming, comfortable and welcoming - This characterful and lovely historic inn/boutique hotel sits at the top of Burford village. We stayed for one night and were given a free upgrade to their Burford room on the first floor. Our room was spacious, elegant and light. It was beautifully and creatively decorated and furnished, and had one of the most comfortable beds we'd ever slept in. The roomy bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower was spotless and had plenty of white fluffy towels. We had a kettle, cafetiere, fresh coffee, a range of delicious teas, biscuits, fresh milk (on request) and bottled water. It was quiet both inside and outside the hotel and we slept well. On the ground floor, the restaurant and both the inside and outside bars were busy but not crowded, and we enjoyed a delicious dinner in the restaurant. Our inclusive served breakfast was also very good and the usual staples were supplemented by a menu of imaginative egg dishes. Check in and out was quick and easy. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, and our rate was great value for the quality of accommodation, food and hospitality we received. We had a lovely stay which exceeded our expectations and would love to return. Our only criticism is the lack of anywhere in the bathroom to put toiletries.
- Jet590707 (4/5): Room for improvement - Overall our 1 night stay was pleasant and the service was friendly but this was unfortunately spoilt as our room was next to 2 young boys sharing a room (with their parents in a separate room on another floor) who made so much noise playing around that we were unable to sleep. We complained about this at reception when checking-out but was told there was nothing that could have been done. We should not have been put in a room next to these children and believe it is unacceptable to be told there was no alternative.
