Guest Reviews
- Marc (10/5): - Cxx
- Danielle (10/5): - Easy parking, nice location
- Janice (8/5): - +Great location, nice staff
-Carpet seemed worn, bathrooms could be updated, would prefer flatter pillows.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was expensive so expected better service. Arrived Friday. Asked for room service saturday evening for sunday. They put my name on the list but didn’t provide room service, trash removal or fresh towels.
- Mike (10/5): - During car week Carmel is nuts. Adobe is a walk away from Ocean but not around the crazy. Staff is great and underground parking is a bonus.
- Jyoti (10/5): - Great stay! It is old but has it's charm. Nice garden and very pleasant surrounding. The market is walking distance. We enjoyed our three nights stay!
- Samantha (10/5): - Perfect weekend hotel, right in the middle of Carmel
- cody (10/5): - Will stay again
- Ashley (6/5): - there were multiple hairs on the floor of the bathroom when we checked in. there was also low water pressure and the room was cold. we never did figure out the thermostat. the place was old and run down and in severe need of an upgrade— definitely not worth the price!
- Christine (6/5): - No airflow in room, weird room location with no ability to open windows and no air conditioning. There was a little fan we were able to use but, not great. No hot water for shower or bath in the evenings. Bed is like sleeping on concrete
- karen (8/5): Great location and large rooms - This hotel offers pet friendly very large rooms with a small fridge and sink counter. We had a gas fireplace in our room as well but didn’t use it. It was ideal for our 3 night stay with our dog! Its location is prime, it offers parking, the front desk was helpful and friendly. Yes, it’s dated and could use a refresh but it’s also a great value compared to the other spots we researched. We will stay again, perfect for us and our dog!
- LeeRoy (10/5): - Our stay at the Adobe Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, everything was smooth and welcoming. Check-in with Jean was quick and friendly — she made us feel right at home.
One charming touch is that the Adobe Inn still uses traditional keys instead of electronic cards. It adds to the cozy, classic feel of the place and makes it stand out from modern chain hotels.
The inn’s location is unbeatable — just steps from downtown Carmel’s beautiful streets, unique boutiques, art galleries, and amazing restaurants. Exploring the area couldn’t have been easier or more enjoyable.
Our room was a true highlight. It was incredibly spacious, featuring a comfortable living room, a huge bedroom with two queen-size beds, and two full bathrooms — perfect for families or friends traveling together. We also loved having two private balconies where we could unwind and soak in the fresh coastal breeze.
While the Adobe Inn isn’t a five-star luxury hotel, we also didn’t pay $1,000 a night for it — and that’s exactly why it’s such a fantastic find. It offers incredible value, comfort, and plenty of space in a prime location. It’s clean, quiet, and full of that special Carmel charm.
We’re already planning our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a spacious, comfortable stay right in the heart of beautiful Carmel!
- Pearl (10/5): Great location with underground parking! - We had a 3 night stay here. Check in was fast and easy. The room was spacious and clean although dated. I loved the fireplace and the balcony with the partial ocean view!
- Jeanne (8/5): - Our room turned out to be a suite with two bathrooms a living room, 2 balconies and a fireplace. Amazing location. Will definitely book again.
- Nhu (6/5): - I really appreciate how caring and welcoming the front desk people are but the shower pressure is not the greatest and the shower head kept leaking water out, causing puddles outside the shower tub. We also kept hearing random tapping nose during the night. We also couldn’t change the temperature of the room so that wasn’t great. But besides that, they are not bad.
- Matthew (10/5): - This Inn is centrally located and clean. They have amazing customer service and plenty of parking! Definitely would stay again.
- Michael (10/5): - Very nice place to stay
- Keith (8/5): - Nice location, you can walked in around town and to the beach.
- Jan (6/5): Dark rooms but nice area - Great location and nice staff but dated facility
- Mary (6/5): - Property is outdated. Sliding door is so weathered you can barely see through it. Screens on the door were torn. There was very little water pressure in the shower. The television had limited channels available and none were local. The room was clean but in desperate need of updates.
- BRYAN (2/5): - Upon arriving, the desk clerk was asleep in the connecting room and could not be woken up. The owner had to be called. The room itself was surface clean but smelled of mold. In the morning we saw that the patio was carpeted and soaking wet. Green moss grew over about 50 percent of it. We left without checking out and found another hotel. Both we and our dogs became ill. Based on the other reviews of this place, maybe this is the only room like this. I can't remember the room number but it may as well have been 237.
- Lawrence (10/5): - Excellent hotel in the center of Carmel downtown. Walking distance to everything.
- Gail (8/5): - It was nice. Good location. When I checked in I was offered a bigger room for $50 more. I said sure He failed to mention it was $50 a night more!!! This was very misleading
- Matthew (8/5): - Friendly, helpful staff, Great location, dog friendly
- Janet (8/5): - Great sea view from balcony.
Staff very welcoming.
Room felt a little musty. Could do with looking at refitting the 'kitchen' area.
- Dianna (10/5): - Staff welcoming, clean, next to shopping.
- Ruslan (6/5): - Rooms on a ground floor looks much older and smaller, dirty carpet and stains, poor heater and only 1 shower set for 2 adults and one child…
The room I had before on a second floor was much nicer even tho it was cheaper lol…
Great location, very helpful and nice employees.
But the hotel needs a cosmetic repairs asap, and, please, clean the carpet better!!! Stains are everywhere it was sort of disgusting…
- DeAnna (10/5): - The ocean view was amazing. Excellent customer service.
- Danielle (6/5): - Room was a bit outdated. No toiletries, no water
- Russell (10/5): - Very spacious rooms,and very clean.
- TEQUILLA (10/5): - Great location! The room was so cute & had a fireplace!!
- Jürgen (8/5): - The ocean view and fireplace in our room were spectacular.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Weekend in Carmel by the Sea - Adobe Inn is a great location. It has onsite underground parking so it’s easy to find parking. Rooms need a little renovating . Old furniture and old carpet.
- Christina (10/5): - I love the convenience in Parking and how spacious the room is. The view of the o C e as from the balcony and how close it is to shopping and dining
- Claudia (8/5): - older hotel but clean and friendly service.
- Jackie (10/5): - VERY SATISFIED.
- Joanne (10/5): - So close to everything!
- Gilberius (10/5): - Great
- Ola (10/5): Great stay! - Quiet property. Friendly staff. Close to everything.
- Angelina (10/5): - Our favorite place to stay in town. Rustic inns and cottages are part of Carmel’s charm but unfortunately most of those accomodations aren’t great for light sleepers travelling with a dog (and are very pricey for what you get!) We love that Adobe Inn has reasonable rates and pet fees, spacious rooms, parking, and is relatively quiet compared to other places we’ve stayed at. Its location is super convenient to get to shops and the dog beach without being on a busy street. It doesn’t really lean into the kitschiness of the town as much, but it is a clean and comfortable stay, perfect if you prioritize value over aesthetics.
- Albert (8/5): Nice Location - One of the beds had a broken leg and it sagged. The other bed was very old and very uncomfortable
- Mellea (10/5): Was looking forward to staying again. - I was unable to enjoy the hotel, as my dog had to go to the emergency vet. I have stayed at and enjoyed the location of the hotel twice previously on girls trips and was looking forward to staying as a couple… maybe some other time.
It was disappointing that they couldn’t change the reservation because of how it was booked.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Look elsewhere - The only positive about this place is the location. Otherwise it's extremely outdated. The heater did not work in the room and it was 42 degrees outside. We were shivering all night and unable to get to sleep. When we told the young girl at the front desk about this they offered no solution or compensation.
- Sabrina (10/5): - It was amazing
- Jamie (6/5): - This has potential to be the best but honestly it’s run down. The bathroom smelled like mildew and the shower head was full of black mold. The last day we were there it rained and the bathroom stunk so bad of sewer we packed up early and left. The location couldn’t be more perfect though. The room was very spacious and had a nice view. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was in such poor condition it made me not want to stay there again.
- Frances (10/5): Will return to The Adobe - It was supposed to rain the whole 3 days we were in Carmel, so we got a room with a fireplace. The room was spacious with high ceilings, very clean, and toasty warm. Besides the fireplace, there was a surprisingly quiet heater. ( It only rained at night while we were sleeping!)The location was great, right in town. The room was very quiet and good blackout curtains.
- caroline (8/5): - The rooms are large & have a nice gas fireplace. It’s in a good location & free parking. It’s an older hotel & could use some updating but it was clean & quiet.
- Beth (10/5): - Beautiful view of the ocean off street parking
Nice area to walk for shopping, dining, or taking in the scenery.
- christine (8/5): Great Dog-Friendly Hotel - We've been to the Adobe Inn many times, as it is dog friendly. Great location. You can park in their lot (which is priceless) & walk everywhere (which is priceless). You can hear the ocean from your room, which we love.
We will keep going back
- MARTHA (6/5): Old but good location - The hotel is situated in the heart of downtown Carmel. Easy to walk to everything. BUT, this hotel is old and worn. The pool is very small and no common area or lobby. The beds were comfy. Bathrooms old and shower small. The parking garage is under the hotel and well lit with elevator.
- Nancy (10/5): - Room was very spacious. Great location.
- mark (10/5): - Great value and fantastic customer service
- Jacob (8/5): Great location, ok room, with free parking - fantastic location but room is dated with worn out furniture, fixtures, and carpet. There was a little balcony on my room that was pleasant; it had tall dividers so you won't see your neighbors. free covered parking was a big bonus. The room was on the larger side; having enough room to fit 2 people comfortably.
- TIM (4/5): - Well, it was very old and in desperate need of renovation. We had to change rooms as 4 raccoons came out of the loose fireplace access panel on balcony and tried feverishly to enter the room. Loose tiles on bath floor, and no a/c! In California! I was prepared to let the state of the building slide, but the raccoons and lack of a/c pushed me over. The manager, Sergio, was great. Took care of us. Not his fault the place needs so much work
- Maria M. (4/5): - Great front desk help, they acomódate to check early , I was set next to pool area and soda vender machine and ice machine , to my surprise … the cleaning lady and service pool guys where tho disruptive 8 am bangs an to laud chatting to the point I had to go out and asked for them to be considered to guest sleep morning time.
Over all ok
- Evelyn (8/5): Comfortable, good location. - It was comfortable but old, drain backs up in the shower, we stayed 3 nights they didn’t even take the trash out.
- robyn (10/5): - We had a wonderful weekend at Adobe Inn- The room was clean, quiet and spacious. We were very comfortable and Sergio at the front desk was very accomdating and kind!
- Randall (10/5): - The location to the downtown and beach are great. Easy parking (smaller vehicles better). EZ check in/out. A little tired in some of the decor but everything perfectly functional and clean. Love the feel, vibe, location and had a great night sleep. Definitely recommend
- Jane (6/5): - the rooms are very nice size - 3 adults was very good. my BIG complaint was the shower - water pressure in our room was terrible - for the price of this hotel - a clean room and a good shower would be the LEAST I would expect. I only got half - a clear room - shower(?) water just dribbled out of the shower head. Very disappointed and I did not receive any type of support from on-site staff (other than we will look into - and sometime water pressure is poor when others are taking a shower in other rooms). Disappointed
- Faan-Hoan (8/5): - Close to downtown, this little gem is quiet, clean and nicely appointed. We had a great view from our 2nd floor room. The pool was clean and very warm. A wonderful visit for our anniversary!
- Li-Lan (10/5): - Nice small property at great location. Walking distance to shopping, dining and beach. Our suite has heating and a gas fired fireplace. The inn has a heated plunge pool. Drawback: no laundry facilities on site.
- Eduardo (10/5): - Close to everything
- SHERYL ANN (8/5): - The screen on the sliding door was ripped and the window on the opposite side didn't have a screen so you couldn't enjoy the sea breeze. We didn't get maid service so I can't tell about how the staff was completely. I did notice the building was looking worn out and the ramp out to the side walk is mushy. The wire on the mattresses would bite into your legs when you got out of bed. The furniture was dated but was in good condition.
- Donna (10/5): - Staff members and dinner were exceptional!
- Hyanghwa (4/5): - Carpet was dirty and the bed was very uncomfortable. Upstairs noise was loud.
- Rodrigo (2/5): - Old property but well located
- Carol (10/5): - This property is definitely older and looks it but it was very clean, the outside grounds filled with flowers, the staff extremely helpful and nice. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our private balcony. I would love to stay here again!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Overpriced - needs an entire remodel - This hotel needs an overall, entire remodel. The rooms are old, drab and tired with few amenities, no work desk, poor heating controls, and outdated, worn furniture and fixtures, with an old carpet. 2 paper cups for coffee. No bedspread. The exterior balconies, stairs and grounds need to be updated and repaired throughout. The room is very over-priced. No customer service or nice amenities. The location is good. Parking (included in the room price) is in the garage directly below the hotel. There is one small elevator.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value with ample parking - This place was great. Conveniently located, lots of parking available, good service… all at a competitive price. Only major drawback was the especially low water pressure when showering. Even so, we’d stay here again!
- Luisa (10/5): - Property is aged but very close and convenient to restaurants and shops. Very clean property.
- Oksana (10/5): - Everything is good about Adobe inn. Our recommendation!!
- Jennifer (10/5): - The location was great. We had a fridge leak and were immediately moved a much larger room with a view of the ocean which was lovely. It is an older hotel but clean and the bed quite comfortable.
- Lesley (8/5): - The room was spacious, the hotel was in a good location with plenty of shops and restaurants close by. The beach was a short walk
- Ryan (8/5): Super cute in Carmel - Charming inn in downtown Carmel. Decor was dated but cute. Loved the in room fireplace and patio with ocean view.
- Richard (8/5): - Perfect location. Comfortable and quiet. Just aging hotel needs TLC. Low shower pressure
- Chris (8/5): - Good Location to Center
- Shelby (6/5): - This property has a prime location, making it easy to explore the area on foot, and the onsite parking is a definite plus. We appreciated the friendly and helpful desk managers. However, there are some downsides. The property itself seems a bit rundown, and we had concerns about cleanliness standards. Improving maintenance and attention to cleaning could elevate the overall experience for guests.
- kyle (4/5): - I liked that they let me check in early but didn’t like the additional fees and taxes since I’m Canadian like why are we subjected to paying American taxes. Also the room had no A/C and for California I mean I think it should.
- Ayumi (8/5): - Property is pretty old. But great location. We’ll be back to stay again
- George (8/5): - Perfect location- great parking.
- CRAIG (10/5): - Although the Adobe Inn is an older building, it is quite nice. Im glad my husband chose the Adobe Inn and I would stay there again.
The gentlemen at the front desk was very pleasant.
If I could change one thing it would be a softer mattress in room 29. It was ok for me but my husband had some issues.
- karen (6/5): Road trip - Very dated property air conditioning not working but great location
- Lindsay (8/5): - Great location. Room was large and clean. Beds were not comfortable. For $300 per night, it was disappointing there was no conditioner provided, just shampoo.
- Angelina (10/5): - Fantastic pet-friendly stay. The room was spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. It is an older property, but with all the modern necessities so rather than feeling outdated it lends itself to the traditional charm of a coastal inn. Also super conveniently located to all the restaurants and shops and comes with parking. We’ve stayed at a couple different inns in the area and this has been the best value for money in terms of what you get and reasonable pet fee by far!
- Richard (8/5): - Clean and good location.
- Sean (10/5): - Large room in a great location.
- Richard (8/5): - The hotel is ideally located in town.
- Miquela (6/5): - Staff was very polite and our requests for extra towels and an extra blanket was met. However this is an older property that could use some repairs and updates. The room was as clean as it could get but the carpet and furniture were clearly aged. Also the deadbolt didn’t work when locking from the outside. Not a huge deal as it’s Carmel and probably pretty safe, but for the price of the room it seems like a simple fix on managements part. There is as a fridge but no microwave. I should have checked that before making the reservation. The balcony was nice but it wasn’t covered and we couldn’t sit out and enjoy the rain.
- Alvaro (10/5): - Just the shower head need to improve and beds to firm for us
But very nice hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location/rock hard beds - 1st time staying with this hotel. Great location, friendly staff upon check in/check out. The room was spacious but a little dark, could use a lighter paint color & comfortable beds (hard as rock). Ok for just one night.
- Lucia (10/5): - Beautiful quaint inn, in a gorgeous little town. We will definitely return here!!
- Kandice (6/5): - Property is old with no recent updates. TV didn’t work, maybe because it’s over 10 years old if not more. Room is cold, heater wouldn’t kick on. Mattress is not comfortable, hard! Room 35, don’t recommend this hotel unfortunately!
- Carol (10/5): - We love the Adobe Inn! Perfect location. We enjoy the large comfortable room with fireplace and balcony!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Below Average - Beds comfortable. Everything is old and not inviting at all. Carpet looks dirty. Chairs spotted and uncomfortable. Location is good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Weather was amazing. We had a lovely view of the ocean from our balcony. Check in was quick, the employees were very friendly and the complex was quiet. We enjoyed our stay so much we’ve already booked another trip.
- Nancy (8/5): Quaint and convenient - Lovely older Inn in downtown Carmel, within walking distance of stores and restaurants. Underground parking and elevator are a plus. Would have liked to have shower gel vs. just bar soap but not a deal breaker. Water pressure is shower was medium. We would stay here again.
- Robert (10/5): - Was very pleased.
- William (10/5): - LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT. WALKING TO SHOPPING AND RESTURANTS AND UNDERGOUND PARKING AND THEY WERE DOG FRIENDLY.
- Mike (10/5): - Spacious room, good bed. Made dinner reservations for us and on whole a convenient and reasonably priced lodging option for Carmel.
- Dennis (6/5): - Average. Nothing special
