Guest Reviews
- Peter (6/5): - The foyer is less than welcoming. But, at the end, you find a pleasant terrace right on the banks of the river Eure.
We had to ask for a map of the city, which was provided some time later. We were assigned a room with a connecting door to the neighboring room, which could not be locked from our side. Upon complaining we were, without problems, given another room. Room service had already done the new room, but there was still a used towel in the bath room. Rooms are very small. The walls were painted in rather sombre colors and the design of the flooring a whirling monstrosity. Breakfast was okay, but the music was annoying. On the positive side, we had a view of the cathedral from our room and got there by foot in 13 minutes. Not much noise from within and we could sleep undisturbed with open window.
It is reassuring to park the car in the safe hotel parking deck, for a small extra payment.
Overall, we would likely come again.
- Ilana (10/5): - Very well presented for a budget hotel. Great, low cost breakfast selection and so close to the wonderful old town.
- tony (4/5): - Very basic hotel with poor breakfast
- David (8/5): - Convenient location for a short stay. Room was clean and front desk staff were helpful. Hotel is no frills, the breakfast was below average compared to similarly priced hotels I stayed at on my trip.
- John (8/5): - Have stayed before and it is good value close to Cathedral and good restaurants
Le Serpemte opposite the Cathedral is exceptional and friendly and very good value
Always good to return!
- Tim (8/5): - We didn’t know what to expect but it was a clean hotel with friendly staff. For the price you just can’t beat wheat you get here! Highly recommend!
- George (8/5): - WiFi is nonexistent in our room. Bedside light not working. Other than that it’s good. We’ve stayed here many times and generally have no issues with it. Location is great.
- Marcelo (8/5): Nice hotel, good service. - The room was nice, we found that the shower was not working even though there was water in the sink and the toilet, they fixed it while we were out for dinner. The breakfast was very nice.
- Stephen (10/5): - Clean, quiet, and near the river.
- Philip (8/5): Good choice for the centre of town - Comfortable room and very good breakfast buffet. Walking distance from the centre of town through the impressive Parc de la Memoire.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We enjoyed an excellent stay in a modern, superbly-decorated and maintained establishment, and found the staff most helpful
- Andy (10/5): - Was a well placed hotel on the outskirts of the old part of Chartres. Room was clean and well appointed. Bathroom clean. Easy to walk (uphill) into town where there are plenty of places to eat. Car park could be better signposted but plenty of space.
- Maithili (10/5): - It was conveniently located close to Chartres Cathedral and had onsite parking.
- Linda (8/5): - Very accessible, staff well trained, everything was clean
- Fiona (8/5): - Easy to find although the underground parking was a bit problematic at first to access.
A short walk uphill to main town and cathedral
- John (8/5): - Good accommodations overall
- Paula (10/5): - I've stayed here several times and it doesn't disappoint. Excellent choice for a budget hotel. Breakfast is very good too.
- Teresa (8/5): - The closeness to the cathedral and medieval centre
- Tracy (10/5): - Great location for visiting Chartres cathedral and old town
- Robert (2/5): Beware of Construction. - Very uncomfortable beds. There was construction all day when we arrived. No mention of it in hotel description. When you come in from an all night flight from Canada you don't want to hear sledgehammers all day. Staff said they would atop at 4pm. They were still going at it at 6h40pm...cancelled the next two nights and moved to a much better Hotel.
- Lucinda (4/5): - I have stayed at this hotel many times when it was an Ibis. Unfortunately this time it was not so good. On arrival a nice receptionist took our details but a man was hovering around her and watching what she was doing and interfering which I found very unprofessional. There was also work being done above our room and drilling started at 10am which was horrendous and carried on throughout the day. We wanted to rest after a long journey the day before which was impossible so we had to leave our room for some peace and quiet. Also the maid didnt knock and barged opened the door at 8.30 when we were sleeping.
- Alistair (10/5): - Woof, I am Bertie. Had a lovely time in the Chartres Cathedral BB hotel. They knew I was coming as the floor is identical to my markings! I loved the friendly owner who cuddled me and loved the wonderful breakfast - the bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs with the best coffee, lovely cheese and breads. Loved the walks around the hotel - a lovely walk around the cathedral at the back of the hotel. So easy to jump into my owners car in the hotels car park for the next adventure. We will all be back - lovely makeover from the ibis it used to be, so friendly and wonderful location. Lovely location at the side of the river. Well done to all the team!
- Jeremy (6/5): - Love the location of the hotel. The room was stuffy and we were unable to open a window due to road noise. A bathroom light that clicking on and off constantly and the worst thing was lift noise, especially a large party leaving early and using it constantly
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The property has secure on site parking for a reasonable fee and is within walking distance to the cathedral. It was easily accessible.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Have access to free bikes and place was very clean.
- Phillip (10/5): - Broken shower in the wet room (rm 16). Otherwise, excellent.
- Stephen (10/5): Hotel & Chartres Combination - The Hotel was in a prime spot for visiting just a bit hard to get to when you arrive but as I had googled the road system and knew where to to turn off and park. The hotel has good security using card or number to access room and covered parking (thought parking was expensive but depends like us what you are travelling with) have had free parking at other hotels with same security. The room was neat and tidy and aired when we arrived for 1 night and they fixed the tv in 10 mins so we could listen to news in the background there is a restaurant next to reception all very clean and lots of information also the staff were very pleasant and polite and helpful a lovely 1 night stay in hotel and Chartres Thank You All
- Sarah (8/5): Great location. - Great location near the Cathedral. Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel though is starting to look tired and breakfast is overpriced.
- Ian (8/5): Good location - Staff very friendly. Location good with super river walk nearby.p Tiny room and no kettle in room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I was charged for taxes upon arrival . Tiny tiny room . Worse that some basic cheap hotel chains , and expensive . Not recommended at all .
- caroline (8/5): good location in Chartres - Good location very close to sights. Secure parking, friendly helpful staff.
- Annie (8/5): - grande amabilité du personnel
- Ian Darrell (10/5): Business trip - Service staff fantastic all around. This is why I stay here even if it is a bit out of the way from my business.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the proximity to the city. Clean and welcoming. Safe place to park the car although there is an extra charge for this. Had a view of the cathedral from our room. Good value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Food was excellent in the restaurant, lovely terrace, good location close to town. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room.
- Robert (8/5): Good choice oh hotel to stay in. - 2 night stay to view Chartres. Excellent City..Easy to walk into city centre. Underground parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was very easy to find. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent. The room was a little small and the actual toilet facing a wall was very inconvenient.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was nice and comfortable. And breakfast was really good. However the shower was not so good as it had no curtain and sprayed everywhere. Our overall stay was good and I liked the foot ball table
- David (10/5): - Excellent location, excellent and rapid service, within easy walking distance of cathedral and other attractions. Safe parking, excellent breakfast. Top notch!/Situation excellente, accueil rapide et excellent, accès facile à pied vers la cathédrale et autres attractions. Parking sécurisé, petit déjeuner délicieux. Super!
- Barbara (8/5): Ibis in central Chartres - Very central location - close to train station and the cathedral. Only down side was the lift not working for a couple of days. Friendly staff and nice breakfast selection.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Small rooms broken child’s bed, rooms not clean. Staff friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great breakfast. Wonderful selection of foods. Good location for visiting the cathedral.
- jeanette (10/5): Nice hotel, friendly staff - Easy to find, secure parking, inviting lobby, friendly, helpful staff, and a 10 minute walk to Chartres cathedral. Very nice.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Charged €42 to my credit card after leaving and tried to say it was for parking that had already been paid
- Arthur (8/5): - This property appeared to be quite old and the room was on the small side. However, It was in good overall condition, I found the decor appealing and the staff were great.
Thanks for a pleasant stay.
- Geoff (10/5): Good stay - Very handy for the city and easy parking in their car park.
- john (8/5): - e NJOYED THIS HOTEL AS USUAL BUT SLIGHT PROBLEM IN THE NIGHT WITH NOISE OF EXPELLAIR IN THE BATHROOM REFERRED TO NIGHT STAFF AND MANAGER PROBLEM WILL BE LOOKED AT
- Johanne (10/5): Perfect! - I didn't stay myself, it was a present for my mum. She thoroughly enjoyed her stay. Her room was great, with view on the cathedral as I had asked for. Staff were lovely. She enjoyed the breakfast and dinner too. Thank you to all the staff for making her stay so special, she was delighted.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great room and staff, terrible meal - I was happy with the room, the shower and the staff.
I was not happy with the meal I ordered.
The bread was stale and the sauce with the pasta dish tasted like it was from a packet and mixed with water. Nothing fresh.
Ok if the price had been corresponding.but the dish was expensive. I also feel that bread should be fresh.
- Anne (8/5): Convenient central location - The hotel is very conveniently located for a stopover, being so close for a visit to the Cathedral and old town. The parking was convenient.
- Sarah E (8/5): Ideal location. - Excellent situation close to the centre so an easy walk to see everything. Very good secure parking and bike storage. Reception staff a little offhand but bar and breakfast staff very pleasant. But the most expensive gin and tonic ever!
- Rosemary (10/5): - A wonderful location especially if you have a dog to walk.
- Garrick (6/5): - Hotel was clean and up-to-date. Good breakfast for an inexpensive hotel. Nothing special about the part of town it was in. Close walk to the cathedral. Air conditioner did not work in one of the two rooms we had. My son and I had to sleep with the window open. Cooled through the night but was hard to sleep because of traffic. Air conditioning worked fine in the room my wife shared with our daughter.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel was nice and in a great location. We were visiting the cathedral and it was a short walk from the hotel.
They also had a very nice breakfast buffet in the morning.
- Dennis (10/5): - Good
- Maisiemaj (6/5): Basic accommodation and food - The hotel was clean (though the stair carpet had seen better days) and was well positioned for visiting Chartres. The room had no tea/coffee making facilities and was fairly basic but clean. The dinner was served without delay but the steak was extremely tough and the hamburger not well cooked even though that was requested. Breakfast was very disappointing and poor value for the price. Driving access to the parking was very tricky to negotiate but very secure if you were lucky enough to get a space. Sadly, not a hotel I'm planning to revisit.
- Francis (8/5): Stop over. - Friendly greeting from staff and easy check in.
Staff well informed of town and answered all questions with confidence.
- Pauline (8/5): Tony - Great hotel in a good location.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Tiny room and smaller bathroom. There is barely any space to move and mattress was sliding off the frame all night long. Lounge was so worn and unattractive.
- Jon (8/5): - The staff were pleasant and the hotel was quiet at night for sleeping.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Well located. Was able to leave bags early before checkout. Breakfast buffet was decent for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice clean hotel friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfasts. Ideal position for town and cathedral. Very steep walk up the recommended route, but pleasant way under the trees across the outside carpark for those like us with creaky knees!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable, decent facilities, good breakfast choice, convenient to town (although the walk up on the shortest route to the cathedral might be a little steep for some), close to the start of a pleasant riverside walk
- Rich (8/5): Good stay - The hotel had a hostel feel to it. The rooms were very clean but a little tight quartered. Overall a nice stay.
- Lee (8/5): It was good for the price. - It was good for the price.
It was great to be able to walk to Sartre Cathedral.
- Robert (8/5): Location Location Location - Adequate for a budget hotel. Fabulous location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel in Chartres - Nice, clean and priceworthy hotel centrally located in Chartres. Rooms are simple but functional. Service at front desk is excellent.
- won't review (8/5): Solid hotel - I liked it. That is all i have to say. And the demands in this review are annoying.
- Henry (6/5): Good for an overnight stay - Staff were welcoming and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Evening meals were basic but nice. Breakfast very basic and overpriced. Overall, the hotel is a good stop off / overnight resting place.
- Robert (8/5): - A great location for the Cathedral. A nice evening meal. Secure parking, although a bit expensive.
- Robin (8/5): Convenient, central, clean, modern, basic hotel - Easy to find, convenient unloading, friendly efficient checkin (English spoken), paid secure parking worth the price. The room (as I was forewarned by other reviewers) was the smallest we've ever stayed in but clean and quiet (with the window closed) and all modern fittings worked perfectly, excellent internet, beds comfortably firm. In other words, fine for an overnight stay when you're not needing to open large suitcases and spread stuff around, because then you'll have nowhere to sit, and don't expect frills like tissues or shower caps. We didn't use the in-house restaurant for dinner because there are highly recommended and more atmospheric places around the Cathedral in the same price-range, but the buffet breakfast was generous although not many cooked choices. Staff in general were friendly
- Van (6/5): Well located but basic. - Hotel is well located and the staff was friendly and helpful. But the rooms are small and extremely basic. The place is cheap, so you get what you pay for. If you're looking for basic accommodations at an affordable price it's fine. For an extended stay, maybe look elsewhere.
- Richard (10/5): Our Two Night Stay in Chartres. - We stayed for 2 nights on our return journey from the Lot Valley to Dieppe. We were exceedingly pleased with our choice of hotel in Chartres. It was 10 minute maximum walk from the hotel to the Chathedral - but we warned if you are not a walker it is an uphill walk! The hotel gave us just what we neeeded, a clean room with breakfast if required. Chartres is a very interesting city - the cathedral amazing. We were lucky to be there when many sites around the city are illuminated - including the Cathedral. A very good place to stop on your wayt home to Dieppe.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I've stayed here twice a year for several years and find it very suitable as an overnight stop on a long journey from London to the Dordogne.
- Michael (8/5): Basic and comfortable - Great budget hotel not far from the Cathedral, about 5 minutes walk. The rooms are basic but clean. The one major downside I found was only 1 power outlet in the room, so had to unplug the TV so we could charge two phones. Breakfast was decent for €10.
- Merilyn (10/5): Surprising gem - Very central. Service was excellent and with a smile, from both of the young people on the desk. Bar and dining area were very pleasant. We only discovered the amazing terrace as we were leaving. Comfortable chairs on a terrace by the river- a real haven. Excellent beds. Will definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ibis - Chartres Cathedral - Amazing location 10 minutes walk from the cathedral.
Lovely courtyard with a view of the river.
On-site secure parking was good.
Staff were pleasant and helpful
Room was clean albeit very small.
Only two minor downsides:
- our "courtyard view" turned out to be a view of the flat roof of another part of the building
- no tea or coffee making facilities in the room (this seems to be the case in most french hotels)
- Dee (8/5): Good location - Spent just one night at the start of a trip through France. Wanted somewhere central with parking at a reasonable price. The Ibis satisfied all those requirements. It is not possible to pre-book parking, but there is a private carpark which was easy to access (there is also a public carpark directly outside the hotel). Room was quite compact but clean and had everything required with a view of the cathedral. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is near the cathedral area although a steep walk uphill.
- Mark (8/5): Nice hotel, great reception staff, dreadful food - Great service at reception where the staff were friendly and informative. Top marks for them. Happy with the rooms which were fairly basic but clean, modern and comfortable. But oh dear, the restaurant. Ordered my steak a point; when it arrived the predominant colour was grey rather than pink and it appeared to have had a lengthy stay on the hot plate. I sent it back, but they had apparently run out of entrecôte by shortly after 7pm. The people at the next table said they had also complained about overcooked steaks. Overall thoughts: a great place to stay, but no matter how tired you are, go out and eat elsewhere.
- Edilbert (8/5): All you need for a short stay - Situated at the edge of the historic centre, cathedral within a short walk, the hotel is ideal for a night over. Comfortable room, with airco, good bedding and a basic restaurant with bar. What can a traveler want more?
- Jeffrey (10/5): Good hotel - Lovely hotel well situated for visiting the town
- David (8/5): Friendly, clean and good value - Staff very friendly both at reception and the restaurant.
- Charles (8/5): Nice and easy - Excellent choice for those willing to walk to the Cathedral and enjoy the old city houses and buildings. Also near to several restaurants. Note: the staff is great and always ready to help.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Walking Distance to the Cathedral and Town - The staff was pleasant and helpful. The hotel has secure parking and a good restaurant. We were able to walk to the Cathedral and town very easily.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent hotel in central location - This hotel is in a fantastic location and we could see the Cathedral from the bedroom window. Having secure parking is a must for us so even at a cost of 9.50 euros we felt it was worth it as it gave peace of mind. The staff are very pleasant and helpful The room was spotlessly clean and very well decorated. The walk-in shower was great. There is a lovely outside area which overlooks the river. Breakfast is not cheap at 9.90 euros but it was very nice and there was plenty of choice. We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to explore the lovely historic town of Chartres.
- Lesley (8/5): Great for the centre of Chartres 10 minute stroll - Overnight stay on way to Sodin. Perfect location
- michael (8/5): Good location, very small rooms - Overall for a couple of days, this is a good choice. The location is great - about a ten minute walk to the Cathedral. The hotel is located alongside a canal and a park, so it provides a pleasant place to walk or stroll.
The rooms are small and basic as you would expect from Ibis. The staff are friendly and helpful.
They offer parking at about 9 euros a day, however there is a city parking lot at the side of the hotel. The parking is lot is free in the evenings and on Sundays. Just remember to move your car before they start charging at 8am in the morning.
- Sue (8/5): Very friendly and welcoming staff - Very friendly welcome on arrival. Clean comfortable room with lovely view of Chartres cathedral. Excellent service in restaurant for dinner and extremely helpful friendly staff made our meal very enjoyable before walking up to see the Cathdral illuminations - just fabulous.
Great location, excellent value for money and good secure parking at hotel - what's not to like about this hotel! Will look forward to return visit.
- Daphne (8/5): Great location - Good, clean room. Lovely staff. Excellent, secure parking.
- James (8/5): Close to the cathedral - This is a well located hotel, about a 10 min. walk from the cathedral and old town. The parking garage is convenient as its under the hotel, but the is no elevator from the garage, and it's about 9€ a day.
- allan (10/5): Sixth time at Ibis, Chartres. - We always stop here on our way back from the South of France. Always a friendly staff, clean room and secure parking.
- Jane (8/5): Typical Ibis hotel. Cheap and convenient. - Convenient location close to centre with secure parking. Rooms small but fine for stopover.
- DENISE (10/5): DENISE - good
- Kieran (8/5): Expensive parking. But great location - Parking was good. €16 a night was very high but it was safe behind a gate, then basement car park. No good if you have a very large car.
- Andrew (6/5): Average stay in an ugly part of town - Reception staff were slow and not of much help. The breakfast set up is a joke, they offer boiled eggs but only 6 spaces to be able to do so. The queue this caused was rediculous and at €10 a head on top of the bill I found this a gouge.
- ALAN (8/5): EURO 2016 - A pleasant friendly hotel within walking distance of Chatres
centre and it's sights and amenities
- elizabeth (10/5): A french culture weekend - Very good value for a weekend away as a great breakfast buffet to start the day
- Mark (10/5): - 10 minute wal to Cathedral and - price was great! Staff excellent
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't expect much, but friendly staff - Did not except much, and did not get much. But I think I overpaid for this type of hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay - Fit for purpose brief business stay
