The continental breakfast (we booked for 2 people) was a brown bag left in my room with 1 bottle of water, 1 warm uncrustible sandwich, 1 warm yogurt and a small bag of gold fish

It was not the cleanest, but I wouldn't say it was extremely dirty or anything. The worst part was the bathroom. I don't think the floor was clean in there and there wasn't any soap, so we had to go buy some.

Veress (7/5): Overall it was a nice experience for one night. - The room was comfortable. The check in went easily and the place felt safe overall. Great location, right on Main Street. The deposit took almost a month to be returned. It is also not a new place and it showed on the bathroom and the room itself as well, but it wasn't dirty.

Mark (4/5): You get what you pay for - The price was cheap You get what you pay for. The place was being remodeled and looked as though an amateur had done the remodeling. Tiles were placed over existing walls and were cut and placed out of alignment. The wall texture looked like it had been thrown on with somebody's fingers and was all over everything even the door casing. The alarm clock didn't work and would not reset. This is not a hotel but a motel. The parking was terrible requiring you to back out of the parking place all the way to the sidewalk. Not well laid out

We had a great stay and would definitely stay again. Bonus that it’s only a 10-minute walk to Coal Creek Trail parkrun :) There was a bit of road noise, but to be expected in such a convenient location by the highway.

Davis (3/5): Would not recommend this place. Overpriced and inadequate. - The location enabled us to walk to the downtown area of Cedar City. But the hotel is located on a busy street, so street noise was clearly audible. Our room was at the back which was appreciated because it was the quietest possible, but street noise was still an issue. The screened windows could be opened allowing fresh air into the room. The room was dark and cluttered with furniture that was too big for the space. The prints on the wall were of 1957 American football players. The bathroom was not adequately stocked. The breakfast was poor - no fruit and no cereal, but 4 flavors of waffle batter (?!). At check out, we were surprised by a $7 charge for something like a city residency fee (not sure the exact wording). We asked for a printed receipt which the staff said was only available from booking.com.

Cathy (2/5): We were overcharged and cannot reach the Mountain Star Inn via phone - We were able to get a reservation at the last minute. The room way tiny and under restoration. The shower was either too hot or too cold. The water would not shut off easily. We could deal with this UNTIL we reviewed our bank statement and found they charged us $150. We made the booking through Booking.com which listed it at 83.00. For 83.00 it would be an OK buy but not for $150!! Very disappointed booking.com has this listing for Cedar City Utah. Today the price is 57.00!! What a scam!!!!!
Mike (10/5): - The Magnussen is an older building, but well maintained. We have stayed here nearly every year for the past 7 years to attend the Shakespeare Festival. It's very reasonable price wise, walking distance to said festival, and the owner(s) (Mehda?) and staff are friendly, accommodating, and responsive. We will be staying here every year as long as we are attending the festival!

The switch for the bathroom light was behind the full size fridge so we didnt even know it was there for 2 days. It was clean, though. The front desk/lobby was always locked so if we needed something, ie toliet paper we had to call the number with our cell.

Victoria (6/5): - We picked this hotel for its proximity to the Shakespeare Festival. Really couldn't beat how close it was--made for a lovely walk. Definitely a quirky little hotel. Our AC unit was falling off the wall and we could see light around it from outside so there is no way it was working correctly. Even though it was set to 68 I was so hot the first night. They do charge per person, which was annoying because I was paying for the two bed room anyway, and the two extra kids I had really didn't use up much resources. We did have a full size fridge in our room, bathroom had a heat lamp and bidet BUT the bathroom products weren't filled and our TP ran out the first day (they didn't leave an extra roll in the room). Breakfast options were pretty pared down and 50% were gone/empty with no one around to refill. I was more pleased with the price vis a vis the condition of the hotel before they charged me more for my two extra occupants.

The walls were filthy, there was some kind of mold growing on the phone, and something sticky was all over the little office chair. There was no toilet paper when we first arrived, the curtain grommets were broken and barely closed, and the air conditioner sounded like it was going to explode at any moment. The staff was friendly and the breakfast provided was nice, but overall definitely not somewhere I would recommend.

Stuart (6/5): - It’s an old hotel with quirky room layout. They keep it clean and staff is friendly. Full size refrigerator in the room is great if you’re on a long stay. It’s in the old downtown area of the city with many interesting shops and eateries. The price was the lowest in the area.
Robert (7/5): The hotel has potential but appears to be run so as to minimize maintenance and upkeep expenses. - The room had been renovated and had a good bed, lots of electrical outlets, good wi-fi, and a newer refrigerator. We were on the quiet side away from the street. Breakfast was just marginally better than a grab-and-go bag with few options. The bathroom needed towel bars or hooks to hang towels. Our friend were in a non-renovated room with one working outlet and no way to plug in the hair dryer. The manager had to be called from wherever he hung out when something needed his attention, but he did show up eventually.

Michael (2/5): The WORST hotel/experience in 50 yrs of traveling! - We did not stay at this hotel due to the deceptive practices of the owner and the deplorable condition of the assigned room. Upon arrival, the owner was absent, only appearing after a ten-minute wait and a direct phone call. He then processed a deposit – an amount significantly higher than deposits at three other hotels in the vicinity. Crucially, after securing my payment and ID, he informed me the original room was unavailable and was giving us a room with three king size beds. It was only after this transaction was complete that he revealed the room's "eco-friendly" feature: no toilet paper, only a bidet. This critical detail was never disclosed prior to booking or payment, and we would never have booked under such conditions. The room provided was entirely unsuitable: * It contained three king beds, crammed so tightly that less than a foot separated them, making movement nearly impossible. * A large refrigerator obstructed what little walking space remained. * The air conditioning unit had a broken on/off button, rendering it unusable. When confronted, the owner admitted no other rooms were available. We immediately decided not to stay. Despite acknowledging our position, he flatly refused a direct refund, directing us to Hotels.com. Hotels.com's subsequent attempt to secure our refund was rejected by the owner. This entire experience was highly unsatisfactory and costly due to the owner's misrepresentation and refusal to refund.

Bathroom door could not be closed. Tiles missing on shower floor. Would not recommend this place.
bukwaa (1/5): One of the top 3 worst stays i had in my life. Never again even close to that space - Just check in There's NO TOILET PAPER use in the motel!!! I understand the use of bide but there SHOULD BE TOILET PAPER also!!! Pillowcases were very smelly on body odor. After we request a new pillows, he just came back with the same ones just sprayed with febreeze !!??!?!? (smelling even worse) Shower had barely pressure to wash yourself and also you need plumber knowledge to start the water!

joel (2/5): - No toilet paper. No return. I've probably stayed at the property over 10 times. Now they have decided to "go green" and removed all toilet paper from the rooms and installed kitchen sprayer type bidets. I previously dealt with the soap and shampoo dispensers that are often underfilled, barely dispense and don't lather, choosing to overlook them as the beds are the most comfortable in town for a cheap motel. After trying to akwardly maneuver to clean with a kitchen sprayer (bidet) and getting more water on the wall than in the toilet, I can only imagine some of the unmentionable that must be getting sprayed around the bathroom. Couple that with the fact that there is no disposable option to dry after cleaning, and I second guess using the black "makeup remover" wash clothes to shower with. Overall, the staff is good, the rooms are decently clean, and the beds are comfortable for a cheap motel, but you should've have to bring your own TP. If you do decide to stay here, Ace Hardware across the street will sell you a 4 pack of Charmin for about $13.

Had a coffee pot but no place to plug it in so I had to put in my the bed where the outlet was. Pillow smelled like whoever used it last. People that worked there seemed nice. Front desk said it was a "green motel" so no toilet paper. I assume that was to save money. They had a hose hooked up to the toilet instead. Seemed a little gross to touch it to clean yourself after others have used it. I think it had potential to be great place.

The office was not open at 7am for breakfast as they said it would be, so ended up leaving without any breakfast or being able to tell them about the power. We would choose to not stay here again.

AARON (4/5): - Check-in was terrible. No one was at the front desk, so over time I range the bell a total of 4 times before I finally called their phone, then a guy popped out from another room to answer it. Got checked in, went to my room, key didn't work. So I go back and the front desk is vacant again.....I ring the bell another 4 times in total while I wait, end up calling the phone again, and he finally pops out. He puts me in another room instead of just fixing my key for some odd reason. Well the new room had 3 Double beds packed into this little room.....but I'd paid for 1 King bed. So I call again instead of going back to an empty front desk, doesn't answer, so I call right back and he answers then gives excuses why I should infact be happier with the new room. He finally agreed to just fix the other key to the room I'd paid for, so I go over there, and surprise, he'd put me in a room with 2 Queen beds instead of the 1 King. Told him there were 2 King rooms left when I booked, and he said that one had plumming issues, the other he gave to someone else. UNREAL. Later, I find that the toilet seat is gross cuz it never got cleaned, and the shower has clumps of hair on the ground and just hair all over, so just disgusting, I didn't want to use the toilet or the shower. Bad experience to say the least. This place has potential to be a great stop for the low price I paid, but for my experience it sucked.
Kathleen (8/5): We plan on coming back - The bed was great, the room was very clean, the bathroom was awesome. Great shower. Just the location. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great. First checked in was actually a little bit worried since it seemed like a hotel where people rented rooms monthly. Ended up being very, very nice. Only suggestion is you really need to paint and refinish the steps going up to room 123, and tighten the railing. It is loose

David (4/5): The hotel was I expected while traveling to work. A place to sleep for the night and get on the road - I was billed over $200.00 for the security deposit and it took 5 days to get my deposit back. SECURITY DEPOSIT CHARGE!!!

Homer (1/5): Bad - $220.00 charge on my credit card for "incidentals". checked out on the 2nd did not cancel the charge until the 8th kept $20.00 they claim is on the web site, not mentioned at check in. Heater in room in disrepair. towels and linen threadbare. I will never stay there again.
Bel (10/5): This hotel is nice and we had a great stay in Cedar City. - The location was great, the staff was great, the breakfast was very good, the amount paid was worth it, even though it was pricy at that weekend, but understandble as there was a graduation at SUU and the city was full. N/A
Edward (8/5): Great price, comfortable room - It is on a busy intersection with lots of traffic, so there is much noise from the street. When I checked in and got to my room, I wanted to get ice for a drink, and the ice bucket appeared to have been used as a trash can previously and hadn’t been cleaned; when I brought it to the staff’s attention, they replaced it, but unlike other hotels, they do not use a plastic liner (bag), so the ice goes directly into the bucket which is a bit disconcerting. When I went to get ice which was from a new ice machine, the room’s floor was dirty with some sort of debris/dirt/substance which was a bit disconcerting as well. The staff has been very friendly and accommodating, and the bed seems very comfortable although I haven’t slept in the room yet. One more item that has been common in other hotels and motels that is lacking is hand soap (bar or liquid); I needed to wash my hands twice, and had to use the body wash from the shower. The towels (2) were another interesting element; they were both too small al which required me to use both to dry off after a shower, and one was pretty thin from what appeared was heavy use. The room is quaint and doesn’t have a lot of empty, wasted space; tight would be a good description. Finally, the TV was the final item I will address because with a season of playoffs (NBA/NHL), I was hopeful to watch some games, but the TV (DirecTV) didn’t have a guide of channels so I had to do a ‘Smart Search’ to find programs, but nothing was available.

Theresa (4/5): - Took about 10 min to get someone up to the front to check us in. Sheets were stained- had to brush them off to make sure they weren't bugs. Carpet was not vacuumed. There wasn't any soap- not even in the hand soap dispenser. Trash can nor bag was provided. A full size refrigerator was not the cleanest. The shower needed attention- cleanliness, & maintenance-the shower valve was so loose couldn't adjust the temperature with ease. When I got out of the shower and walked into the bedroom, I sat on the bed to put lotion on my feet, and the bottom of my feet were black again! The television didn't work.

Lindsey (4/5): - The bed was not comfortable and it felt and sounded like the mattress was on two file cabinets. “Free breakfast” did not look appealing and wanted to fill up our water bottles and the water dispenser was broken
Verified traveler (4/5): - I will not stay there again. The place is old and needs a major renovation, not just the bare minimum of "lipstick" updates. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable.
Nancy (9/5): Green and comfortable a good value for your money - The room was comfortable and clean lacked enough electrical sockets. I did not like a fee for checking in after 2 PM. I did not like the early 10:30 AM check out. I wasn’t crazy about the few steps you had to take to get up into the room. I have trouble with my knees.
Adam (3/5): Wouldn’t stay there again - Nothing Extremely overpriced for a weekend rate. Room was old and dirty. Bathroom had Dirty walls, hair in the shower, rough toilet paper and the body soap dispenser did not work and Towels were rough. Also, back window did not lock. Place is pretty rundown and needs a major renovation.

Brinn (2/5): - I booked a single room for my dad. We got to the room, the light didn't work, there was no remote for the TV, and it wasn't clean. The bathroom door was hard to close and then I couldn't open it with without help unless they wanted me to possibly break the door. We asked for a new room as I didn't want to keep getting stuck in the bathroom. Front desk was annoyed and put out. And wanted to upcharge us for a new room. The next room was better, but I wouldn't book here again.
