Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (4/5): - im originally from that area and like staying at this place. This time not so much. Found all kimds of stuff left from others that have stayed in that room under the beds and blankets left in drawers. Outlets that were loose and arched when plugging our cords in. Curtains screwed into the windowsill. It was the worst stay anywhere for me in quite a while
- Natalie (4/5): - The room was filthy. Hair all over, something crusty and sticky on the bathroom counter and bedside table. Floor had not been vacuumed in who knows how long. Hair under the pillows on the bed and the comforter was dirty. The outside was cute and kept up. Bed was rock hard.
- Betty (2/5): - My family and I planned on spending the weekend at the Park Motel in Denison, Iowa. When we walked in the room it smelt disgusting. As we looked around we found a beer bottle up in the lamp with some beer(?) in it, and we found pills on the floor that had Apparently been there for awhile, as they were stuck to the floor.
- Andrew (10/5): - What a nice place. It’s an older property that has actually been cared for and updated. Nice job
- Katherine (10/5): - Very cute property! Love staying here, clean amd friendly staff. Breakfast pizza across the street!
- Debbie (8/5): - The history of Donna Reed and other historical sights.
- MARYLOU (2/5): - No one was available to discuss given wrong room. No breakfast available even though it was included in their add. No security lock on inside of door only touch number pass on exterior of room. Continuous loud noise from upper floor room most of the night, I was awake until after 2 am because of it. No one available in morning before check out to talk to about problems either. Would not recommend this place.
- Doug (2/5): - Photos on website definitely deceiving
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very pleasant stay....Clerk was friendly and pleasant...Clean and comfortable...bed was firm...liked the ol time relics that were in the room...made it lil fun...
- Alexander (4/5): - Comforter was dirty and had obvious hair follicles from previous guests. Beds are very stiff, but bedding was fairly comfy.
Need true black out shades for room. Light from parking lot shines bright into rooms.
- Rich (8/5): - Historic property, friendly,
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Run down. Expensive for what you get. Not worth the “savings”
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The property is nice. Beds are cement and room smelled musty. You only get 2 bath towels. My niece got some washable hair dye in one and I got charged 10 dollars they should’ve gave me the damn towel. I called and asked why didn’t you just call me? If you check out before 9 you have to call a number to fine the hidden key box. I will never get a room here again.
- Shawn (10/5): 2021 family fun - This is a nice little motel and I enjoyed my stay
I grew up in the area and am back for a wedding and reunion and would stay again when we come back around
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Historic motel. Has that welcoming feel. Will return.
- Jeff (6/5): - Basic no frills motel. A coffee maker in the room (even just a hot plate and instant coffee), or coffee available in the office, would have been nice. But the room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the folks working there were very friendly.
- Cathy (4/5): - Old hasn’t been updated for some time. Carpet stained. Just old.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Think twice. - No phones in rooms. No attendant on duty at all times.charges $3.00 per room key not returned.I have never have this happen ever.
- Sheri (6/5): - If you need to sleep.... Bed was good.
Sign on my room door said "Complimentary Continental Breakfast-6:30 to 10"
When I went down, there were no lights on and the door was locked this was 8:30 am. I phoned as the instructions on the door said, only to be told "We quit that" So when I asked about coffee, maybe when they come in at 10!
Price was $89.99! Thinking back, too high priced, for what you get.
The gal checking me in was nice, but only saw her then.
I guess this is a 2 on the scale of 1-5, because the bed was good!
- John (2/5): - Overbooked no room no apology
- Donald (10/5): - It is a Historic location and the management have managed to keep it up to date without disturbing the antiquity. Comfortable and clean!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not great... - Called the hotel the day of our stay to make sure everything was lined up. They had no record of my reservation from Expedia even though I had a receipt and confirmation number. They said their system wasn’t working to sync with Expedia but didn’t apologize or offer an alternative. She just kept saying it didn’t go through. I asked if they had rooms available. Luckily they did but it wasn’t the suite we had reserved. The rooms weren’t the cleanest. It was ok, the facility is just really old so hard to keep something like that clean. There was hair in the bathroom and a used mini shampoo and conditioner was what they left us. The breakfast the next day was terrible. Felt gross even eating in their breakfast room. We went to Casey’s and got breakfast after that. Got us through the night but wouldn’t recommend to family or friends.
- Dwane (4/5): Very Sad - I’ve been staying at the Park since 1978. Unfortunately, the management has decided to give up and stop cleaning this once very great place to stay in Denison. Sad
- Steven (8/5): Good value - Nice Historic Motel. Friendly proprietor! Hi John!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Staff provided excellent service - good breakfast. - Staff made us a good breakfast and fulfilled our requests
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Incredibly dirty, mold on the walls, with the smell of urine and mouse feces
- Verified traveler (8/5): clean, no frills hotel - Very good service from the staff. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were very clean.
- Brie (8/5): Nice, clean, friendly - Unique, clean motel with friendly staff. Rooms were nice and price was reasonable. I would recommend this motel to fellow travelers.
- Waterflier (6/5): Historic - It was fun to find a hotel that was part of old route 66. It was extra nice that they allow pets. We didn't like that there was a $100 pet deposit but evidently they'd had bad customers and didn't want to deal with the damage.
- R (10/5): Nice hotel for overnight. - Passing through on vacation. The hotel was easy to find and get to. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room had all the amenities needed. Toilet was loud when flushing. Bed was not too soft or too hard. Room was really clean. Would stay again.
- Marina (2/5): - Room smelled musky was suppose to get a queen size bed but got a full size bed. Pros were it had a small fridge n microwave. Shower pressure was good but ac unit was old and couldn't change room temperature.
- Genevieve (10/5): Unplanned Stop - A fierce rain storm forced me and my motorcycle to call it quits in Denison, IA. The Park Motel happened to be at the exit and turned out to be an unexpected delight. It's on the National Historic Registry and is in GREAT condition! Staff are friendly and very helpful. I had a relaxed, comfortable evening and headed out in the morning almost dried out.
- totally disappo (2/5): - We got stuck in the back of the motel, the bathroom you were really lucky I'd you could even turn around it. The steps to get into our room were really loose, thought we were going to fall through. The staff tried to be accommodating. They did find a hairdryer for me to use . There were no accessories in the room. The ad for the hotel was not at all what the room was actually like.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old and tired - Old and not well maintained. Air conditioner not adjustable, light by bed didn't work, small room. Price we paid was too high for condition, amenities. Spent all our time elsewhere as room was small and depressing.
- Jean (6/5): Not a good value - The check-in was pleasant. The Stairs smelled, but room didn't. I had asked for a tub and didn't get it. There were empty soap wrapper and opened shampoo tube on shelf in the bathroom, but other than that it was clean. It was a good thing that there was a table in the room, because there was hardly any space to put anything in the bathroom. Oh, I had to ask for more towels, there was only one set. I still don't believe that the bed was a queen, looked and felt more like a full. It is a good thing we only needed the room for a night. It did have a refrigerator and microwave and nice TV. No TV guide. I think we paid too much for the room. The breakfast was not great.
- Deb (6/5): Power's wedding stay. - Old Hotel but comfortable. Could use some updating of whole room. Staff had trouble with reservation. Had us in a smoking room when we requested Non-smoking.
And as of this AM I haven't received credit for the stay in the room. 2 nights
- Richard (6/5): Texas - While the hotel was clean and the location easy to access from the freeway, th beds were uncomfortable. It felt like a cheap mattress that still had the plastic cover on it. It appeared this may be an extended stay location as some of the guest in the lobby area were in dirty work clothes and packing lunches from the breakfast bar. We would not likely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Class Reunion trip - Returned to Denison after a 30 year absence for a class reunion. Found the hotel to be clean & comfortable. Was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was given the railway & highway so close.
- Daniel (8/5): Red roof inn - The hotel was in fair condition
- Verified traveler (6/5): hopefully the new management will make improvement - Staff was very friendly and I know they recently purchased the property. The furniture was old, but what concerned me is that there was mold in the shower/tub.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Best deal in town, but still might not be worth it - We had what I called a "tower" room, i.e. one of 8 rooms in the central core of the facility. The room was tiny, the bathroom was tiny, and the room smelled of mold or mildew. I complained about the room after the first night, and they moved us. They had only a smoking room available, but, to be honest, it smelled better than our original non-smoking room. They had a small breakfast spread, but it had absolutely no protein...not even peanut butter to put on toast. It was all carbs. Thank goodness, there is a restaurant across the street that serves a reasonably priced breakfast.
We stayed in the new room, but, somehow, they forgot to clean or make up the room after our first night. Also, they lost the internet on our third night there, and the clerk did not know where the router was so that she could reset it.
All in all, it was something of a disappointing stay. Not sure if we will stay there again.
- Marlene (8/5): Good value! - For once the pillows were great! Bed was comfortable too. Air worked great. The lobby could use some work and some painting is needed but it is an antique building. We enjoyed it a lot and will stay again.
- retired (4/5): Small town charm - The room was dirty, in need of updating and just a good cleaning
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Window was missing a crank to open.
Room Smelled
- Gina (8/5): Just what I needed - The staff were very willing to help with all of my needs; from directions, to questions about restaurants, and even coming to unlock my room late in the evening because I'd lost the key (which they didn't charge me for.) I needed a nice, simple place to sleep for the night, and the Park Motel gave me just what I needed.
