Guest Reviews
- Nathalie (10/5): - Très bien sur tous les plans ! Hôtel magnifique ! Je recommande.
- Julian (10/5): Comfortable, good location for the historic town - This is a small family run hotel. It’s a 10 minute walk into the old town and 15 minute walk to the train station. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned everyday. The hotel does not offer food but there is a restaurant next door and lots of cafes nearby. Parking is in a 24 hour underground parking lot about a 5 minute walk away. The hotel is an historic building but sympathetically renovated. Pilgrims walk past the hotel on the way to the cathedral so if you are undertaking the pilgrimage this is a good choice.
- Jaap (10/5): - Great hotel, old with a super restaurant and patio
- Maite (10/5): - Muy cerca del centro
- Esther (10/5): - A charming building. We did have trouble finding the entrance. A passer-by showed us the buzzer. We ate at the adjacent restaurant which was super convenient and had superb food.
- SHELLEY (10/5): - The San Nicolas was absolutely breathtaking when I walked in. The entrance was unassuming but when I stepped in I felt transported back in time.
It truly was a wondervul three nights.
Thank you Alejandro...
- Ryan (10/5): - Beautiful historic building that has been meticulously maintained. Alejandro truly goes above and beyond to look after guests and make sure their stay is perfect. The hotel is a little outside of the historic center, but the short walk is worth it. Would recommend / stay again.
- Deirdre (10/5): Excellent - Wonderful stay, place was spotless and charming. Very close walk to the center. Host and cleaning girl very very friendly and accomodating. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to book a stay in Santiago!
- David (10/5): Santiago’s hidden secret - An excellent small hotel with a most professional helpful and friendly owner
- Cinzia (10/5): - Era un gioiellino in un'ottima posizione e i proprietari estremamente gentili.
- Kaoru (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay here… a little off the beaten path and uphill walkable to the old town in 15 minutes.
Owner was really friendly and able to answer all our questions… the inn is very quiet. The attached restaurant was fantastic. I would stay again.
- Michael (10/5): - Casa San Nicolas is truly unique. Historical building with very comfortable rooms. Close to centre of Santiago (pleasant 15 min.walk). Alejandro is such a thoughtful host. Already planning a return visit.
- Ellis (10/5): - Beautiful old building well restored, very attractive. Associated restaurant and terrace is lovely. Manager Alejandro so friendly and helpful. Grade C are are.
- wallace (8/5): - The hotel and room were charming. My only complaint is that the hotel is at the bottom of a steep, long street up to the cathedral and center of town. For anyone not in prime physical shape the walk is not a pleasant experience.
- Steven (8/5): - A very convenient small hotel. The staff is professional and friendly. A well appointed room with proper upkeep by management. A great stay while in Santiago de Compostela. Alanjandro the manager is very attentive to the needs of the guests. We recommend the hotel for its charm & convenience.
- Kerry (10/5): - I had a second floor room with a private bath. The room overlooked to courtyard with the restaurant across the way. It was nice to sit with a glass of wine at night. Short walk to the cathedral. I would certainly recommend San Nicolas to anyone who asked.
- margarita (10/5): Excelente y cálido alojamiento. - Muy buena atención. Impecable todas las dependencias.
- Karyn Nicole (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent small hotel in a renovated old building. Fabulous restaurant attached.
- BERT (10/5): A special treat - Perfect host, extrremely clean, wonderfully renovated historic building. Boutique hotel.
- Isidor (6/5): - Quite area, staff was very nice., but no air conditioning. And had to walk a way to the nearest restaurant bar.
- Leticia (10/5): - Just excellent
- CAREN C (10/5): - The property was charming and historic. The host was spectacular. We highly recommend staying here.
- Kovacs (10/5): Excellent - excellent service, fantastic kindness
- Luciana (10/5): - Very modern and clean. Excellent!
- Farid (10/5): - I had a great time at casa San Nicolas. Clean, cozy and super relaxing. Alejandro is an amazing host. Definitely recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very nice place and friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very lovely owner who was helpful with the parking, etc. This property needs an update. It is old and noisy (creaky), but comfortable. We loved the location.
- James (10/5): - A short visit to Santiago de Compostela - a return visit a must. A beautiful old town with much to see. The host was very friendly and very helpful, a beautiful hotel full of charm and history - recommended 😃
- Neil (10/5): Excellent! - The hotel was clean, stylish and situated in a nice, quiet area close to the historic center. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I left my mobile phone and the owner - Alejandro - had it shipped safely back to the UK. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. My stay was a rewarding end to The Camino De Santiago.
- Bill (10/5): - The property is unique because of its past as a leather tannery and factory. Upgraded several years ago to accommodate 7 rooms within the live in proprietor, the rooms are appealing, rustic in places, yet accommodating for two. In the heat of summer one might find it hot as the age of the building did not allow for AC.
Alejandro was a delightful host during our stay. As we had a car to tour the region, the ride and route to a secure parking place behind the building is an adventure. If you have a car, insist on driving it to the parking to enjoy the experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - After we did a bit of driving around to finally find the hotel - construction on the main street down had closed it off, we were met quickly and our luggage was taken up to the room. We had requested parking and were lucky enough to come at a time when we were told to just drive up to the door and our car would be parked for us. That was a huge relief! The room was cute, bathroom was new, and the property was very quaint. The indoor garden courtyard had a restaurant and was very pretty.
- Charlotte (10/5): Tæt på centrum - Dejligt sted, hjælpsomt personale
- Rafael (10/5): - todo exelente muy buena atencion
- Thierry (10/5): - Wonderful hosts
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our stay was wonderful. Our host Alehandro was the most pleasant and helpful host anyone could wish for. His premises were 4 stars and his attention to detail was perfect. We appreciated his helpfulness when we arrived after a long trip. Very easy walking distance to the Cathedral which was a plus. The breakfast was superb! We would recommend staying at San Nicolas to anyone visiting Santiago de Compostela.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely old stone building not far from the main town. The owner was friendly and helped us park our car out the back for free. Highly recommend.
- Ellen (10/5): Charming small hotel and outstanding hospitality - The owner(?) Alejandro was so pleasant and helpful, he really “sold” the hotel. Rooms are small, pristine in cleanliness, new and immaculate bathrooms. All rooms face the street, which is getting a major overhaul, but it is actually quiet. An easy walk into the town center and major sites. Alejandro recommended four places to sightsee as we drove south, so thanks to him, we had a spectacular stay — and day afterwards! He couldn’t have been a more charming host.
- L.S. (10/5): - excellent location, can easily walk to town. friendly inn keeper. Will recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The host was very friendly and helpful.
- Mark (10/5): - The San Nicolas was delightful. It’s been owned and operated by the same family for many years, as reflected in its beautiful decor and complete lack of room issues. Breakfast was fantastic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for everything. - Fantastic hosts. Could not be nicer. The restaurant in the same building was a bonus with absolutely great food.
- Kim (10/5): Characterful guesthouse - Great experience from the moment Alejandro let us in. We arrived very early and were allowed to leave our bags. He was extremely helpful. The place is so full of history and very interesting. We had previously been at the Parador in Pontevedra, but we much preferred San Nicolas.
Yes, it’s a short walk into the old town but it’s an easy walk
- Niklas (10/5): Excellent - Excellent location, clean and cozy rooms. Less than 10 min walk to downtown and the cathedral. The entire staff was super helpful! Can definitely recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to Stay in Santiago De Compestella - Very much enjoyed our stay at San Nicholas. Very cool restored older building with lots of charm. Location was convenient to old town but far enough away to escape the hubbub. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful with making decisions on sites to see and restaurants to enjoy.
- Judith (10/5): - Really welcoming owner great quirky place and good position for the old town
- Jack (6/5): - Average ordinary
- Philip (10/5): Charming place, close to Cathedral area. - I was delighted with the place. The room was clean and cozy, and the hosts were extremely gracious and made me feel very welcomed. The breakfast spread was the best I've had in Spain! My wife would love this place... if we return to Santiago, I'd book us here for sure. I did not have a car so I don't know about parking...
- Yuri (10/5): Excellent Hotel worth picking in Santiago - Our stay at the San Nicolas Hotel was incredible. From the minute we walked into the hotel, we were warmly greeted by the Proprietor, Alejandro, and immediately showed to our room to relax before check-in. The hotel is amazing. It is an old leather tannery that has been very nicely remodeled into a small boutique hotel with very comfortable rooms. If you like historic hotels, you will love this place. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to the historic City center and Cathedral, nestled in a nice quiet neighborhood allowing for a very peaceful, quiet night. The hotel is also about a five minute walk from the Church of Santa Maria a Real do Sar, a Roman church built in the 1100s that is well worth a visit.
- Robert (10/5): San Nicolas #1 in my book - This is one of the nicest places that I have stayed at and you will never find a friendlier and more helpful host than Alejandro. Upon our arrival, my wife's first comment was "This place looks like a museum".
- Mr Ernie (10/5): Beautiful Hotel 10-15 minute walk from Santiago - This was probably my favorite city and favorite hotel of my 2 week trip. It doesnt look like much from the outside but you will be pleasantly surprised. After circling a few times looking for a place to park, I decided to just pull up on the curb. Ring the doorbell and youre greeted kindly by a gentleman who takes your bags and parks your car in the back. The hotel felt warm rustic and cozy. The room itself was a mixture of historic and modern. The furniture was very nice and the bathroom was of 5 star quality. I was completely impressed. The hotel was so quiet that I asked if I was the only guest there. I was told that there were 2 other couples staying there. When I left, 2 days later I had a nice conversation with the owner, Alejandro, and told him his Hotel needed to advertise more because it was so great. He replied that he was more about quality over quantity. He wanted to make sure his guests had a great experience at his hotel, so he didnt want to book too many guests. It made sense to me. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to respectable guests.
- Dawn (10/5): Historical charm - Alejandro was the consummate host, seeing to all of our needs with a smile and without hesitation, even when I needed to use his computer and printer/scanner to complete some last minute business. This hotel is immaculate and although it is a very old building, which was a bonus indeed, the bathroom was very modern and spotlessly clean. A 10-minute walk brought us to all the historical sites in Santiago de Compostela. We arrived by car and Alejandro parked our car safely for us where we left it until we were ready to leave some days later. Wi-fi is great and we enjoyed relaxing in our room after trekking about the old city. Highly recommended!
- Gary (10/5): - Alejandro gave us 5 star treatment.
- Donna (10/5): - These guys were the friendliest, most helpful hosts we have ever had, and we have travelled a lot!
The 300 year old hotel was beautiful and comfortable, like home.
Thank you so much!
- GERALD (10/5): AMAZINGLY FRIENDLY OWNERS, LOVELY STAY... - WOW!!! what a lovely overnight stay, Lovely owners, lovely place, excellent service.......nothing else to stay apart from highly recommended, will certainly use again next time we pass through Santiago on the bike
- Veronica (8/5): - We had a terrific stay in this very friendly hotel. The host was very friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to a return visit in the future.
- Sherry (10/5): Just beautiful - Super friendly and gracious host. Classy 300 year old building, which is more like staying in a affluent friend's house. You leave here feeling like having visited an old friend. Short walk to the train station. The one negative is some road noise when your window is open.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A building of character - very Spanish. Excellent breakfast.
- Cornelius (10/5): European Hertiage Tour - It was a little hard finding the hotel being in the older section of the city, but well worth the effort. The staff went out of their way to be helpful during our stay. I just handed them the key to my rental car and they parked it for me after they took our bags to our room. We would stay their again on our next visit to Santiago de Compostela.
- Karen (10/5): Lovely in every way! - Excellent in every way! The hosts Alejandro, his father and his wife are all lovely people and made our stay even better. The authentic old country house and grounds are gorgeous and the breakfast was great. The room was a real bargain for what you are getting for the price - quiet, spotless, beautiful and very comfortable, and even had a fridge. We would most definitely stay again and recommend it as a great place from which to explore the lovely Santiago de Compostela.
- Christine (10/5): So comfortable and homely. - We had a fantastic stay and would recommend this family run establishment to anyone. The location is close enough to the old town to be in easy reach but far enough away to not be in the middle of the hubbub.
The valet parking is a godsend.
The owner and his wife do everything possible to make you feel wanted and are a mine of information about the town.
- Sherreeta (10/5): Undiscovered gem - This is a beautiful and historic hotel in walking distance of the Cathedral de Santiago and many other sites. The rooms are clean and beautiful and the staff is extremely polite and helpful. The staff speaks English which was a plus for me since I speak little Spanish. I highly recommend this hotel. The accommodations surpass the price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): nice hotel but no restaurant as advertised - IT WAS GOOD AND QUITE HOTLE AND RUN WELL NO TO BE SAID
- Alejandro (10/5): Very nice hotel close to the attractions - I really enjoyed my staying in this hotel, recently renovated and clean with personal attention of the owner-manager, very nice ambience.
- B n T (10/5): Extremely friendly and helpful staff. - Just out of old city , beautiful secluded courtyard to relax in. Historic 2 storey building. Couldn't fault it.
