Fine for the price, although I’d spend more money and stay nicer. My room had paper thin doors. No towels. I went to use the safe but the screws that secure to the wall had been removed. They did switch rooms for me which was appreciated. The new room was actually better.

- Cecilia (10/5): - The space was beautiful, and all of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast topped it all off -- fresh fruit, juice, coffee, arepas, eggs. The hotel is located in a very ideal spot within the old walled city. It's very walkable (we only took a cab a couple of times during our stay).
- William (6/5): - Extremely noisy construction next door during the entire visit. Also, a very average breakfast compared to similar hotels in the historic center. Room didn't quite live up to the pictures online.
- Jamie (10/5): - When booking the room it did state on ground level. One thing to note ground level in this case means the hotel door opens to the outside. When we opened our door you walked out onto the street. This was fine for our family, but might be helpful to know when booking. Also with door opening directly to the street you hear everything going on. There are many street performers right outside your door, so if you are a night owl this is not a problem, but if you go to sleep early you may not like all the activity. Overall this hotel was a great location and we had a wonderful time exploring the city.

- Carolyn (4/5): Disappointing, smelly guest house. - Disappointing. Zero customer service. Tired guest house. Tiny room, no openable window, useless shower. The worst point is the dreadful smell of fried food that comes in through the air con 24 hours a day whether the unit is on or off. Really unpleasant. Ridiculous bell system to get in main door which means guests coming in at all hours of the night have to ring to get access waking you up. Noisy- buskers outside from midday to madrugada. Horrible breakfast room. Best point - sitting on rocking chairs on balcony overlooking the square.

The rooms and interior of the hotel are cool, staff is friendly, nice breakfast, perfect location, etc. I would recommend this spot to anyone visiting Cartagena. You can be just about anywhere in the old town area in about 5-10 mins walking. Set just off of a square with music and vendors in the day and quiet at night.

The rooftop area is rundown — only a few chairs can be found there. The area around the hotel was quite noisy, and like the rest of the city, unsafe in the evening. Would not stay here again.

- Gary (10/5): A GREAT LOCATION AND OUTSTANDING BOUTIQUE HOTEL. - Highly recommend this hotel for these reasons - 1. Location is perfect overlooking a charming plaza with easy & very fun walks to 3 other close by plazas for great restaurants, boutique shopping, nightlife or just strolling through the best part of the old town. I’ve enjoyed so many nights sitting on the balcony overlooking the plaza....charming. 2. Staff and owner are personable and gracious. They go out of their way to make your stay wonderful by individually suggesting more events and personal tours. Both the owner and Melanie speak fluent English, Portuguese, German, French and Spanish to help. 3. Rooms are spotless and a good value. You can choose a quiet room in the back or have a front room with a balcony overlooking the plaza nighttime fun. Room size was quite large. 4. Pool now available. The hotel just put in a nicely done pool. 5. Secure for safety with very little car traffic in front of Hotel. 6. Great made to order breakfast with many choices. To summarize, if you want a small, charming boutique hotel in a great location with a very friendly helpful staff, this is an excellent choice at a good value.
- Dayna (8/5): Owners on site make for INCREDIBLE service - Maria and her staff are simply wonderful!! The hotel is being updated. which it sorely needs, but the location inside the walled city was perfect for exploring the area. At night, it can be loud if the park is packed with live musicians. the breakfast didn't offer lots of options but was made to order. It's one of the few hotels in the walled city with sleeping space for a family of four. The shower was super small so might be a challenge for larger people. For the price, this is nice little place to begin your exploration of this wonderful city.

Owner/manager on premise to assure quality control. Wifi in the rooms. TV and air con, hot water in the showers. Bright and cheerfully decorated. Excellent breakfasts cooked to order. Natural fruit juices not from a "can" or watered down. Accommodating bi lingual staff. Very secure and fairly priced.
- Caretta (10/5): Great staff and location! - I stayed at the hotel with one of my friends on my spring break and I had an overall enjoyable stay. The location is central to most attractions in Cartagena. The daily breakfast was delicious, the service was amazing, and the staff were amazing. I greeted all staff that I came across and hugged them before I left during breakfast. Rafael, this young man was amazing and we appreciate everything he did to help us, from directions, helping with selections, brewing tea, and having casual conversations. Ricardo was also really helpful with selections of things to do. Maria was the utmost knowledgeable person overall. All three of these staff were helpful, kind, and honest. I also appreciated all of the helping staff...I'm missing another major young man-I can't remember his name, but he was awesome as well. The cleanliness of the hotel was great and I felt safe all the time. The only uncomfortable thing was the bed squeaking. Overall I would recommend people to stay here.

Easy walking to everything and wonderful staff (especially Rafael) & cooked to order breakfasts. Very strong AC & hot water. Some noise from the restaurant nextdoor at night. My room was a little dark but there's a great sitting area with chairs, couches, and rocking chairs looking out onto the park. Would definitely return.

- Caribbean (8/5): Superb location - Breathtakingly beautiful location on a lovely square (and I had a room with views over it) in the heart of Cartagena. Only downside was 2 noisy neigbours (bars which insisted on playing loud music from mid day to after midnight), so while this was a lovely place to wake up and be in the morning, it was not somewhere for an afternoon nap or an early night.
- Eric (2/5): Rude people, convenient location - The people at Hotel Boutique Diego de Alcala are absolutely as rude and unpleasant as it gets. We had a late addition to the trip and even though there was plenty of space in the room, they treated us like we were criminals and charged us an extra $200 for that person. The hotel itself is OK- the room was clean and spacious, but there are is no pool and the people are rude. I think you can find better options in Cartagena. Being in the walled city is nice, but there are definitely better options with more amenities and less rudeness.
- MB (10/5): Excellent location in walled historic district. - Perfect location to explore the colonial historic district. The hotel's Cafe de Artistas offers good food and drinks. The staff is very friendly and they are always making sure your stay is going well. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I visited Cartagena with my family and I'll stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overall ok, but issues need to be addressed - My wife and I decided to stay at this hotel after reading the great reviews online. We requested a rooom in the back due to concerns from previous travelers that noted noise issues that made it hard to sleep. Check in was pleasant, with very nice hotel staff. Upon check in, the room was fairly spacious and seemed clean. The location itself was great in terms of being close to anything we wanted to see. Check out was also a breeze and the staff was helpful in arranging a MarSol for us to the next city on our trip. The following issues were encountered however, and we sincerely hope the hotel management takes action: 1. Upon check in, we only were given 1 set of towels for 2 people. We had to ask for more on 2 occasions. It's a small thing, but we expected more. 2. The shower had hot and cold settings but we could never get a warm shower. Ever. It was either scalding hot or cold. Given the price, I found this to be unacceptable. 3. My wife found a cockroach in the bathroom. It slipped into a hole before I could kill it... though I did photo it. Given the area, this is not uncommon, so it wasn't a deal breaker, but again, not a great experience. 4. Noise! The noise from the bar next door went to the late morning hours. Ear plugs were required. I don't think there is a single room where peace and quiet could be attained, as we could here the staff in the hallways as well. If you value quiet: do not stay here. 5. Wifi in our room was inferior.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Grial location, partially remodel, not sharp. - A mix feeling with the staf. Not a clear set of instructions or the facilities. I was visiting some relatives on Cartagena and they were prevented from joining me, in addition, the manager avoided to cover the breakfast on the first morning saying that the person wasn't register since the second person did not arrived on the first day of the reservation. The manager made it complicated, the rest of the staff didi cooperated.

- Verified traveler (8/5): 4-night stay in historic district - We enjoyed our stay here. The check-in person was really helpful and informative about things to do and how to get to them. The overall feel of the hotel was nice. The hotel and room have a slightly out-dated look/feel to them. Not necessarily a bad thing. The layout of the room was great and very unique compared to the other places we stayed in; you walk into a living room area and there are stairs that lead to a floor above with a bed, that overlooks the living room area. I guess this is a loft-type setup. We also had a balcony that overlooked the square/park we were on, and we really loved that. Overall, a good location but also very noisy in the morning, which we didn't mind (we're used to living in cities and like the buzz). The bathroom wasn't that nice, however, because it was small and with an uncomfortable layout. The water was lukewarm and the sink pressure was very low. Also, internet was spotty. The breakfast was great. On a side note, when we left the hotel, I had forgotten my suit in the bathroom. The front desk-person called the bus travel agency we were using, tracked me down, and stored my suit for a few days until we returned to Cartagena from Santa Marta.
