• Sonia (6/5): Very authentic and beautiful, but not for my back - Amazing place, views to the river, dinner place, the Bridge, very authentic Ryokan, very kind staff and a different and very special experience for dinner. Room is big but not really confortable, sleeping in the floor and lack of basic furniture to place the suitcase etc, not good for my back. I had pain the 2 days. Very old installations (bathroom mainly). One night would have suffice to live the experience. Breakfast is probably very authentic but not for all tastes (a few alternativas could have been offered). Too far from Nikko (one hour by car).

• Emma (9/5): Wonderful stay and a unique experience - Amazing experience and wonderful staff. It took a while for us to travel there and coordinate the buses and trains too. It was worth it in the end.
• david (9/5): Classic onsen in the mountains - If you are looking for a classic onsen near Nikko then this is your place. It's located in the mountains so it's a bit of a trek but well worth it. It's historic. We had a room on the river with its own private bath. Dinner was amazing served on the other side of the river, which was accessed by a suspension bridge. Everyone dressed in classic wear. Breakfast was also Japanese style. The onsen is quite further than we thought which meant we had to leave Nikko by 4.30 pm to make it for dinner at 6pm. Well worth an overnight away from Tokyo.

• Erika (10/5): Lovely - An unforgettable experience. Everything here is carefully attended to in every detail; anything you might need is provided—and even more! It was my first onsen, and it was a wonderful experience. In this place, you are immersed in tradition in a truly poetic way. The food is a bit unusual, with flavors and textures that may not suit a Western palate, but that’s part of the experience!

• Laura (10/5): Magnifique expérience Ryokan Onsen et dîner japonais - Magnifique établissement niché au bord des montagnes japonaises. Nous avons eu la chance de voir de la neige et des singes. Le personnel est très accueillant et bienveillant. L’onsen extérieur est très beau. Le dîner était aussi exceptionnel ! Une immersion 100% japonaise en portant des yukata. Tout était parfait ! Mais noter que l’établissement est excentré de la ville (c’est ce qui permets d’avoir des paysages magnifiques). Pour venir, nous avons pris un taxi pendant 1h depuis le centre de Nikko. Pour rentrer, nous avons pris un bus (45 min) qui passe au pied de l’hôtel, puis deux trains pour un retour vers Nikko Station.
• MARTHA L (7/5): - Lovely bridge over the river takes you to dinner. Wonderful to experience such a historic place. They weren't able to make subsitutions if you have a shellfish allergy so eating is a bit tricky. Everyone is lovely, however. It's pretty far off the beaten path...It was a trek out there (which could be perfect if you plan for it) but it took me a full day of trains, planes and automobiles to leave and get back to Tokyo.

• Valentin (10/5): Excellent - Endroit somptueux, tout est absolument magnifique, et pensé pour la relaxation et l'apaisement. On peut contempler la nature en buvant un café au bord de la baie vitrée. Les onsen sont superbes, avec option privative payante pour les couples qui est très bien ! Malgré un repas quand même de très grande qualité, nous n'avons pas été spécialement bluffé par le dîner.

• Yasunori (8/5): ゆったりと落ち着ける宿 - バリアフリーにならない階段や足元の悪い廊下では、近くにいるスタッフが笑顔で介助してくださってとても良かった。 吊り橋と長い階段を歩かなければならない囲炉裏食事処へは、スタッフが車で送迎してくださって助かりました。 夕食はバイキング料理とは違い、温かい料理と冷たい料理が出来上がり次第、配膳されるので食材のおいしさが味わえました。 大浴場と露天風呂へ行くにも階段があって、ここにはスタッフも目が届かないので、転倒には気をつけなければいけない。 浴衣の丈が長くて踏んでしまいそうになって、つまずかないように気を使う必要があった。 どちらともいえないが、時計がない時間が過ごせること。

• Alexandra (10/5): Magical - The whole experience at this 300 year old ryokan was magical. Our room with the private onsen was so comfortable and we were lucky enough to get snow on our final morning even though it wasn’t forecasted. Sitting in the onsen while it snowed outside is a memory I will be forever grateful for. The food was also excellent and the staff were so attentive and kind.

• Yukiko (10/5): 最高の一日になりました！また来たい宿です！ - 宿の正面玄関も雰囲気があってすぐに感激しましたし、建物の中も全てすぐに気に入ってしまいました。食事も美味しいし、ボリュームもすごくあって、囲炉裏で食べる楽しみもあり、終始最高の気分でした。従業員の方々もとても素敵でしたし、親切でした。外国人の方が従業員の半数くらいいらっしゃって、一生懸命で本当にcuteでした。とにかく全て良かったです。 特になかったです。

• 지혜 (10/5): 혼케반큐 저만알고싶지만 모두가세요~ 두번가세요~ - 역사와 전통있는 료칸에서의 이틀밤이 너무 행복했습니다. 식사와 잠자리 모두 훌륭하고 온천물도 좋고 눈내린 료칸의 경치가 일품이었습니다. 직원분들도 매우 친절하고 정중하며 손님 한분한분에게 마음으로 신경써 주시는 모습이 감동적이었습니다. 주변동네는 매우 조용한 동네이므로 근처에서 크게 즐길거리는 없고 기누가와온천까지 나가야 테마파크라든지 즐길것들이 있습니다. 온전한 휴식의 여행으로 매우 좋았습니다. 다만 가는길은 송영차량이없고 환승이 많고 버스비도 비싸서 렌트를 하시는것이 훨씬 도움이 될것같습니다.
• Bryan (6/5): Gemixte gevoelens. - Het eten was echt heel lekker en leuk om te doen. We hadden ook een fijne serveerster. De lobby en prive onsen zijn ook echt heel mooi en leuk. Ook het personeel is heel behulpzaam en lief. (Op 1 na) We hadden een lange dag achter de rug en waren moe en wilde even slapen, maar onze futon bedden waren nog niet opgemaakt. Nadat wij aan de receptie vroegen hoe dit moest gingen ze dit direct voor ons doen. Was erg prettig. Toen wij in de prive onsen zijn gegaan. 45 min voor 2200 yen, wilde wij graag extra handen doeken hebben om ons af te drogen. Hiervoor moesten wij 350 yen per handdoek voor betalen. Ook is geadverteerd met een prive bad op de kamer. Dit was gewoon een normaal bad. Ter vergelijking: In onze reis naar japan hebben wij 15 hotels gehad die allemaal een bad hadden en niet hiermee adverteerde, de verwachtingen van ons waren hierdoor hoger dan wat er was, maar dit was gewoon schandalig. Ook was de douche en waterdruk erg slecht. Het was een relatief klein bad. Maar dit duurde zo lang om te vullen dat ik er niet eens in ben gegaan omdat ik niet zo lang wilde wachten. Wij hadden ook de kamer links boven de hangbrug en we hadden regelmatig als er ergens een deur open of dicht ging. Dat alle deuren en ramen bij ons trilde. Ook toen wij de futon bedden zelf probeerde op te maken en dit ons niet helemaal goed lukte voelde dit vies aan en zagen we wat vlekken. Ook zaten er kuilen in de futons.
• Badhrish (9/5): Lovely traditional Ryokan experience with very attentive and helpful staff - We loved the Friendliness of the staff, the property itself, the traditional dinner and the breakfast . We also liked the Onsen very much, though not very large, it was adequate for the number of guests around at that time. We visited to see the autumn colours, though it was a bit late, we still got to see some of the vibrant colours at Nikkoo and in and around Honke Bankyu itself. Though we had told them beforehand that we were explicitly Vegetarian, they served some Non-vegetarian food, which after my wife had started eating, they quickly apologized and replaced with Vegetarian.

• Sascha (10/5): Lovely historical onsen ryokan with comfortable rooms and a great atmosphere - We had a lovely room with a view of the river and cozy futons. The onsen were excellent, especially the private ones, and we enjoyed the Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We really loved our stay and would definitely like to come again.

• Sarah (9/5): Stay 2 nights and really get into relax mode at this exceptional place. - The food was exceptional. The staff unfailingly kind and welcoming. The onsen was bliss. Rooms large and bed cloud level comfort. And the location was sublime. I hope to return. A stunning experience. Nothing really. A 5 star experience. I feel very lucky to have located it and made a booking.

The staff is super helpful and the food is delicious. They were super kind is preparing a lactose-free menu and preparing a cake for my girlfriend's birthday. It's not so much a problem with the facility itself as it is with the public transportation. The route from Tokyo (Kita-Senju) to the facility isn't even clear on Google Maps, and booking trains on the Tobu Line (express) isn't easy, and they don't run
