My partner and I were able to explore Puerto Rico on our own terms and it felt super local and authentic. The sounds of the coqui's was the most soothing background noise to fall asleep to. 10/10 recommend this guest house to anyone looking to explore Puerto Rico, make amazing friends, or relax by the pool. Absolutely will be returning! Julisa and Izzy were an amazing managers and helped us so much!

- Destination590289 (10/5): Perfect Place to Kick back and Relax - Coqui Del Mar is a magical place if you were ever in search for Armistead Maupin’s “28 Barbary Ln., San Francisco“ you found it here in San Juan Puerto Rico. Rob and Vianney are amazing hosts. They remind me of Anna Madrigal, whose 420 friendly guest house is incredible. Their staff: Izzy’s hard work and whose Je ne se quois, has the ability to make you feel so special. Juan, Kevin, and Pedro, are hard workers, as well as, impeccable chefs. From the breakfasts/ brunches, to the barbecues, to the cooking demonstration on Monday night, you can taste the love they have for Puerto Rican food. Lorindinna whose passion of Puerto Rico (the places to check out, and the local delicacies) radiate through out her body. She gets so excited, and makes you feel like you’re already there tasting the food she’s described. The place is eclectic, and you can feel the love, and the guests feel like neighbors/ family.

- ptuch (8/5): Wonderful, friendly home for a great vacation - Just back from a relaxing 8 night stay. The guesthouse is super relaxed and friendly, with a small pool, spacious hot tub and second floor deck. Staff chef is amazing, with made to order breakfast/brunch + afternoon bbq twice a week, and always vegan /vegetarian options. Don’t miss the awesome guava cream cheese spread/dip! Great location, beach a block away and even better beach a 10 minute walk. Isla Verde is a 15-20 minute walk, with a more spacious beach and lots of wonderful restaurants. Bus or Uber to Old San Juan or other parts of the city is quick and cheap. Not sure about those recent negative reviews: our towels were big and fluffy, and daily housekeeping was offered. It’s not a 5-star resort, it’s even better, like staying as a houseguest with a wonderful friend. We met great guys from all over. The people of San Juan were uniformly friendly and chill. Go with a fun, relaxed attitude and you’ll have a great time.

We also appreciated the guest house’s commitment to inclusivity—it’s a space where LGBT travelers can feel completely comfortable and celebrated. It’s worth noting that the accommodations are not luxurious. The rooms are simple and practical, but clean and well-maintained. If you’re seeking a high-end resort, this may not be for you, but if you value a warm atmosphere, excellent service, and a local experience, Coqui Del Mar is perfect. We can’t wait to return!
- L6347SFryanr (4/5): For $327 per night, I expected more—much, much more. - First, let me begin by saying that my husband and I prefer luxury accommodations. We always look for the cleanest and most beautiful places everywhere we travel. We ourselves are engaged, meticulous business owners and we always expect the same from other businesses we patronize. Recently, we spent 2 nights in the "Pink Room" at Coqui del Mar. While we loved their marketing and the idea of a gay-friendly clothing-optional guesthouse, for us, this place really missed the mark. Although the room seemed sufficiently clean, everything else was lost in the details which have clearly been overlooked time and time again at this property. BATHROOM For starters, the bath towels. These old and overused rags had been worn down to be only a little thicker than a few pieces of cheesecloth sewn together. I cringed each time I had to dry myself after a shower. As for the pool towels, one of them was frayed along the edge and stained. For a modestly-sized 5'9", 165-pound man, the shower itself was just barely big enough to turn around in. What made it really uncomfortable, however, was the saggy shower curtain sloshing around near my feet. Why not size the curtain properly to make your guest's shower experience better? I don't want to rub my body on a shower curtain that is surely full of mildew and bacteria from months of use in a hot and humid environment. The toilet was smartly equipped with a bidet nozzle but the white seal around the base of the toilet was stained urine-yellow. To be fair, we did not detect an odor, but this detail is very important as it just as unsightly as it is unsanitary. The sink is teeny-tiny and the medicine cabinet above it sticks out from the wall. In order to spit my used toothpaste into the sink, I had to carefully wedge my head underneath the medicine cabinet. Very uncomfortable and such poor planning without thinking about guests' comfort. BEDROOM Although the bedding was nothing more than a thin sheet and a thin blanket, the mattress itself was comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep. The pillows were not the most comfortable but they did the job. KITCHEN We did not use the kitchen. To be fair, maybe this kind of place just isn't for us. We had high hopes but when the property sent me a pre-arrival email with tons of information about "Winter Fest" and included all the dates for their 2023 "Winter Fest" and never bothered to even read the email before sending it out THREE TIMES, I should have realized the people running this place do not care about details. We love supporting gay-owned small businesses but we won't support a business that doesn't put in the effort to win a 5-star review. Sorry, Coqui del Mar, we won't be back.
- R9460MBalexanderr (6/5): Mixed experience - We stayed here after a cruise for the weekend. For us it was a mixed experience. First the good. The owner and the staff are super friendly. The location of the hotel is an a gated community which really felt extra secure. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. For the stuff we didn’t care so much for: the place feels very much like a make shift place and honestly feels a bit run down. The breakfast/ brunch was underwhelming (although prepared with love) and served on a bunch of plastic dishes that felt a collection of hand me downs. We skipped that for our second day. The room was not cleaned on Saturday - we just got fresh towels but when we got back from our daily excursion into the city the bed was not made and we just found the towels. Again we feel a bit bad to leave this mixed review. For the price we paid we could have definitely stayed in a nicer place. But closing again on a high note: the staff was very nice and tried to be helpful. It was just not what we expected otherwise.

- erickcarrion (10/5): Amazing Last Minute Stay - I made a last-minute reservation at Coqui Del Mar to celebrate my best friend’s birthday, and we were thrilled to be able to book a room the same day! Even though we had a short stay, we made the most of it by enjoying the hotel’s fantastic amenities and connecting with the friendly community. We also went on an incredible gay tour that took us to a jungle and waterfall, which was an unforgettable experience. The complimentary breakfast on the terrace was delicious, and even though our room was branded as the smallest in the hotel, I found it to be spacious and equipped with everything we needed for the night. Izzy, the innkeeper, was amazing super knowledgeable about the area and the space, explaining everything to us perfectly. I highly recommend Coqui Del Mar! We’ll definitely be back.

- Merrifieldman (10/5): Free to be myself! - Sadly I only stayed one night and should have stayed two or three nights. It is a place that feels like home everyone seems connected in community together. I felt safe, free to be myself and like I belonged. The room was clean and comfortable and you really don't stay there long in the room as the public space is the living room of the guest house with everyone hanging and chatting together by the pool or hut tub or roof top deck area. The hospitality was incredible and they really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and part of the family. I never felt like I was a nuisance and from the moment I stepped in the gate I was made to feel important and like I mattered. The owners hang out with you and you get to know them. The staff and managers treat you like friends and it is the safest place to be your true authentic self while enjoying the tropical life of Puerto Rico. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place and I can't wait to return. Tim

I thought I would venture out but ended up spend g most of my time in the property chatting with new friends in the pool. The brunch was just incredible and the Saturday afternoon barbecue food was delicious. Tried some local produce like malanga, yautia and quenepa. The purple room was basic, but comfortable, perfect for my short stay. I might try a larger room in my next visit, which will be longer than just a weekend. They all go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, and they are always available to help in any way to ensure a better stay. Some added perks like happy hours and BBQ’s and a chef who makes wondrous treats and cooks custom egg dishes for breakfast… all make this a very cozy place to stay. Honestly, it really feels like you are a guest in someone’s home, rather than at a hotel. Their love bug of a dog, Coquito, was my favorite guest!!🙃🥰 I also want to give a special shout out to Rob, one of the owners, who has truly mastered the art of hosting at a place like this, perfectly and seamlessly knowing how to service the guests and socialize at the same time, deftly meeting each guest where he is at socially, and never imposing upon the privacy or preferences of his guests—executed (I would say) better than any owner I have ever encountered. You’ll be blown away by how thoughtful and caring the whole staff is. San Juan would benefit greatly by more places like this!!

It was the best decision I have ever made. The resort was great, beach was in walking distance and wonderful, restaurants and attractions were amazing and in walking distance or a short UBER ride away. Owners Rob and V were super accommodating, anything you wanted or needed they would take care of it and were on-site for the majority of the time I was there. Teague was the perfect host and so funny and smart, Kevin and Pedro were amazing chefs, and cooked breakfast to order, loved the Brunches and Barbeques too. Everyone that was staying there was so nice and friendly. made so many new friends. Can't wait to get back, already planning my next vacation here. Billy

It was informational as he explained to me the san juan area and what things and places i can explore. It was my first time to do solo travel in a caribbean area and this place makes my stay more feel like safe and comfortable. Issy and thig make sure that we have everything we need. Kevin(chef) made a stunning home-cooked brunch on weekend and his hummus is a must try. I stayed in twin room, it was comfortable and budget friendly. If you are lucky to find availability, explore their fabulous rooms because they have different themes which is co cool and it is really a massive room. I met a lot of awesome and beautiful people along the way because of this place. Their BBQ Saturday party is a must try cuz it was an awesome experience. Dont forget to enjoy and relax by the pool and soaked yourself with other guys in their massive jacuzzi. Overall, i cant thank enough Rob and His husband for letting me stay in the wonderful place. Our tour was with Antonio and he was very knowledgeable and obviously loves and cares about what he does. Floating and swimming in the river and through the caves was really awsome.
- Pablobj_a346 (10/5): Excellent and fun experience. - I had such a wonderful time in this place; I loved its vibe and met nice people there; I was traveling solo but the guys are very open to make new friends. I stayed at the Purple room and it is quite comfortable, nice bed, bathroom, it has a mini fridge and a complimentary basket of goodies. Breakfast and brunch were delicious and generous. They also have a BBQ on Saturdays, highly recommended. Thank you guys for all your attention and to make me feel among friends; I will come back for sure. Wish you a lot of success. :D
- Dave (10/5): An Oasis in San Juan - What an amazing property Coqui del Mar is. Hotel is overall well kept. We stayed at their biggest room, Orange Room, which has a HUGE kitchen, living room, and cute little bathroom. The property is generally well kept, although some areas started to show its age and could use refreshing, i.e. shower in the bathroom, appliances in the kitchen, plants around properties that are not well trimmed, outdoor furniture and turf around hot tub that started to show its age. Location is somewhat walkable, a few restaurants, grocery, and walking distance to the beach. It's also in a gated community that boost the safety while at the hotel. In typical San Juan fashion, there are some areas near the hotel that is a little "sketchy" but you learn to avoid it. Having a safe haven for LGBTQ+ community is such a rare sight these days and Coqui del Mar definitely checks out in that department! We built friendship with other guests, something you can't do at a chain hotel! Definitely a plus! Communication with the hotel was also flawless and they have the best, most courteous staff members! It's a rarity to see hotel staff who cares about their job and want to make sure the guests are comfortable during their stay! I will absolutely stay here again on my next Puerto Rican trip!
- curtis (10/5): SO WONDERFUL!! - this place was the PERFECT location! I had the most warm welcoming and met all the staff during my stay. It was great weather and the amenities were awesome and convenient. I even had the opportunity to meet the host and he even took me out for the night of delicious food! The chef came to my door every morning asking if I wanted breakfast. The beach is minutes away on foot!! Hearing the waves and hearing the breeze was a great way of going to sleep! Will definitely stay again...if available.

- Eric (6/5): Its nice but would not return - Very difficult review as I have mixed feelings about the property. Check in was great, Alejandro showed us around and explained the amenities and was very cordial, so was Ron and loved coqui the dog. They had nice touches like free coffee and snacks. Felt very community like. However,the property has a few issues. We did not get room service for 2 nights and the one night we did, they just made the bed. No towel change, empty trash, etc. The rooms are very spartan and dated. Our bed was on shipping pallets! limited space to store items and the wardrobe had missing handles on one of the 2 drawers. Linens are extremely worn, torn and old. Exterior wise, they had a community fridge, it was a total mess and disgusting, the handles needed a good clean, it was just nasty all around. The ice machine was a joke, a toy in reality. Great for a home but not for a hotel. One issue did not bother me at all but it did bother my partner, was that we learned that Coqui is the name of a small frog that sings all night, and they sing loud. So be warned that you may be in a room where it will be loud. To us, it was not worth the extra money paid to stay in a LGBT friendly place.

Upon arrival you are met at the gate and shown the property and to your room. Shortly after you'll get an informational text that is SUPER helpful! The rooms are amazing. The property is perfect. Everyone is super laid back. You will not regret your stay. The pools and hot tub provide the perfect place to escape the world. There are some great walking distance options for your needs. I was there for work but can't wait to return again soon!
- Paul (10/5): Helpful and friendly - We enjoyed our stay at Coqui del Mar. The rooms are like individual cabins on the property. It has a very communal and welcoming feel. You got to know the other guests because people would hang out at the pools and jacuzzis, especially in the evenings. It was a mix of ages and body types, very relaxed. The managers were helpful and organized day trips. The bed was comfortable and with the kitchenette, you could be self-sufficient for a longer stay. Location is by the beach and they have chairs + umbrellas to borrow for free. Breakfast was an odd mix, but usually all right. They could fix up some little things around the property (our shower curtain was hanging on its last two holes), but nothing was a major issue and the managers were really attentive when you brought something up. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I really enjoyed my 5 day stay. The owners of the property communicated with individual text messages shortly after my flight arrived. They informed me of the status of my room. Then they let me know when the room was ready. When I arrived at the property I was greeted and given an orientation and shown my room. The neighborhood is safe. The property is safe. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach and a 10 minute walk to the grocery store. There are many restaurants within walking distance. There is a small area within the guesthouse that has items left behind by other guests for community use. This is an excellent idea. From toiletries to ice to drinks, they have it. While I didn't have breakfast or brunch, they do have that and will even make some delicious mimosas for you! Keep in mind this area is clothing optional, so please be comfortable with that. There was no body shaming or anything. There was no presence of drugs during my stay which was nice. There are two small pools and a nice jacuzzi. Guests regularly gathered there and had a great time! The staff is very friendly and clean all areas of the Guesthouse. Because of COVID they do not enter your room, but you can request extra towels and items or service. I did not need any extra service. I had a rental car and was able to park directly in front. I didn't need the car most of the time. Uber works just fine and will arrive in less than 10 minutes and the driver's have great suggestions. I will stay here again!

- Raymond (10/5): A Special Place - If you are looking for a cookie cutter hotel, this is NOT the place for you. If you are looking for a place with unique character, a few rough edges, a lot of Kitch, and a warm, cozy/personal feel, you’ll find it here. The hosts are highly attentive, but relaxed. It’s 420 friendly and clothing optional, but never to the point of being offensive to those who choose not to participate. Certainly not the place for everyone, but perfect for some. Sometimes I prefer the predictability of a chain, but if I’m looking for a special place to relax for a while, I’d definitely return.

Small pool is very clean however the larger pool has a lot of lime. Larger pool also hosts quite risquee situations in the evenings, which can be uncomfortable if non LGBT. If I had known what it was, I would have booked elsewhere...

- Earl (10/5): A wonderful relaxing "Home Away From Home" - Rob and "V" and Ien (pronounced like Ian) were great hosts. From the moment I arrived they welcomed me and after checking in, Ien gave me a tour of the facility. This is an intimate, "flavor of Puerto Rico" accommodations owned and managed by Rob and V. who also live on the property. It was nice that the door also had a screen door for wonderful evening and early morning cross breeze through to the kitchen windows. Air conditioning was VERY QUIET which I cant say that for some of the more expensive hotels! It is only 12 minutes from the airport and 1 block in from the beach! My suite was very clean and had a full kitchen. I was in P.R. on business so I really appreciated the plentiful outlets that were well placed and the internet was excellent for my work in my room. The "coffee bar" in the mornings is very quaint and well stocked with all the condiments. I highly recommend signing up for the Mojito class on Thursday nights. So much fun!!! They have 2 pools. One is secluded - clothing optional for nice a change of pace!! LOL I must say, the location was excellent - each time I used UBER (3 times), someone was there within 2 minutes! A couple of local restaurants within 20 min walk but there is also UBER EATS along with pizzas for delivery I travel a lot for business to P.R and have always stayed at the normal corporate hotels. Now I will always stay at the Coqui del Mar. I shouldn't tell all this - I'm afraid it will be full when I make plans!!

- Marco (10/5): Great stay! - My wife and I spent three days at Coqui del Mar. The hotel is located in a quiet street and one block from the beach. We arrived around noon and didn't have any problems with check-in. Ian is a fantastic host, he gave us a thorough explanation about the hotel and amenities. We stayed at the Taino room, next to the pool. There were some free night group activities such as mojito preparation, unfortunately we couldn't attend any. I enjoyed the free fresh coffee and mangoes from the mango tree. I will definitely stay here in my next visit to San Juan.

The property have got nice traditional look to it. The owners are super nice and accommodating I accidentally booked for additional day of stay and they refunded the complete amount for that day (where expedia was't able to help). They also helped me with information like things to do around and restaurants. The checkin was super easy and fast. The owner Robert was responding quickly and really helpful.
