Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I enjoyed being in the rain forest with very few other people around, the pool was small but very nice and refreshing. The breakfasts and staff were amazing, especially Diego.
On the downside the road in was 2 km and rough, the last 200 yards really is meant for 4WD. The Wi-fi never worked. There is no AC, most nights were ok, some were too hot.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a very beautiful setting, with waterfalls and activities on the prem
- Michaela (10/5): - This property is up in the rainforest, providing continuous nature contact and sounds. The front desk and those who worked there went above and beyond to communicate with me and my guest and help us communicate with local companies, taxis and provide suggestions.

- Chuck (10/5): Amazing Location! - We were on a jungle hiking tour (where we had to pay 20$/person)before we arrived to this place!
Well this place is in the jungle with waterfall... and it's hundred times better than the paid tour!
we were all amazed how beautiful this place was!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Muy agradable - Muy bien todo! Muy buen lugar. El desayuno excelente y la estancia agradable.
- Damien (10/5): Très bien ! - Agréable nuit dans la forêt avec chutes d'eau à proximité !
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice duplex in the jungle - We stayed in the duplex for 6 nights. The room was clean and comfortable with fans and open windows with screens. The kitchen was outside with a nice view of the trees from the kitchen sink. We never swam at the pool, but it looked inviting. The Rio Portalon with access by staircase was about a 30 minute hike further into the property...AMAZING. Breakfast was hot and prompt every morning that we were there. David was more than happy to help with directions, advise, and recommendations during our entire visit.
- Katherine (10/5): Great hotel in beautiful rainforest - We really enjoyed our stay at Portasol Living. We booked a bungalow but got upgraded to one of the houses, which was great. The house was spacious and comfortable with a huge, wonderful outdoor porch area with couches and hammocks where we loved spending our evenings. Our favorite thing about this hotel was the location. It's a little bit off the beaten track, but it's worth it because you really are in the rainforest, which is beautiful. There are several short trails on the grounds of the hotel leading to waterfalls which are great for swimming. It's also right in between two great national parks--Manuel Antonio to the north and Marino Ballena to the south--so it's a short drive to either of those. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hermoso hotel en el medio de la selva - Hermoso hotel en el medio de la selva, a muy pocos km de la playa y del parque manuel antonio. La atención es muy buena, los caminos están en buen estado.
- anita (8/5): Staying in the Trees - Wonderfully thought out place...literally in the middle of the forest...no A/C...10 minutes from one beach and 40 mins from another...not a beach view but in the trees...parks in the area with waterfalls to enjoy and wonderful breakfast and care from Ariel!! Very rustic but wonderful place to stay...
- Kim (2/5): Dorm-like conditions - The room was a small box with no air conditioning. We had to share the bathroom with three men in the room next door. The price was way too high for what we got. We paid similar prices all over Costa Rica and this was by far the worst conditions. I would expect to pay half what we paid. I would not go back or recommend this "hotel". On the bright side, the surroundings were beautiful and the dip in the river pools was very relaxing and refreshing.
- Tzeni (10/5): Unforgettable stay - Hotel is surrounded by nature with trails and a waterfall. The location is very tranquil.
On the way to the hotel you drive through a little typical Costa Rican village where locals enjoy the nearby river.
It is so beautiful! We had the chance to see toucans, frogs and other critters that we haven't even seen while visiting Manuel Antonio National Park.It is like hotel and national park at one.
It has been a most memorable stay.
- family of 3 (10/5): Nice hotel in the forest. - It was a very nice place away from the crowd. Enjoyed the bouglow, staffs were very friendly and helpful.
- Charlene (10/5): Paradise - This was the last stay for us on our cross-country Costa Rican road trip. After traveling from the city of San Jose to La Fortuna, on the bumpy, long road to Monteverde, and along the Pacific coast beaches, we landed at Portasol. Don't get me wrong, the trip was amazing, but if you don't have the time (16 hours of driving) to do the road trip, stay here! This is the complete Costa Rican package! We swam in the waterfalls, hiked in the rain forest, and drove to the beach. It was by far the best place we visited!! David went above and beyond what we ever expected from our host, and the breakfast was amazing! Next visit we are just renting a house with Portasol and staying there the entire time!! Pura Vida
- Skye (10/5): Great place to stay - We loved staying at Portasol. So much so we went back three times during our stay in Costa Rica (5 weeks). We loved the bungalow, watching squirrel monkeys and humming birds in the forest surrounding us. We also loved swimming under a waterfall on the property in a beautiful waterhole, finding butterflies, dart frogs and fish for company. The food and staff were also great, making our overall experiences at Portasol enjoyable. The only down side was, as we have a one and a half year old daughter, the low-sided pool near the eating area meant we couldn't relax during eating times as she always wanted to be over at the pool (no fence around it - or the drop off next to the pool), and without a high-chair to put her in, there was no real way to keep her away from it. Something for staff to think about for other families in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very close to nature. - The room was very nice and comfortable. Very close waterfalls and river to swim in. Very nice staff. Breakfast to order was great. Our family had a great time. Thanks to David, Alex, and the kitchen staff.
