Guest Reviews
- Théo (1/5): -
- Siscar (4/5): - Location is good since it was in the center town and have nearby groceries and restaurants. Our room was in third floor, since there were power interruptions like 3 to 4 times in a day, we don't have water in our comfort room.
- sugarhighness (8/5): Clean, affordable and simple accommodation - Simple and affordable. En suite toilet and bath. Bed is comfortable, comes with 1 pillow and blanket. Room is clean. Allows early check in, if the room is available. Walking distance from Jollibee, supermarket, etc. Will recommend this to travellers who are okay with basic accommodation.
- Taliz (7/5): Good - Thanks for a nice stay
- Liza (8/5): Very good - The location is just fine, walking distance to the market, church, etc. Every time you like to drink coffee you have to buy styro cups.
- Ron (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jp (5/5): Passable - Good location next to jollibee and ealking distance to shopping mall and market. Very basic accomodation, ac very loud, no hot water, very small cr.
- Mai (2/5): Very poor -
- Edwin (8/5): Very near to business establishments in Camiguin - Very near fast food store. Walking distance to supermarket. No elevator going up. Beside a gymnasium and you can hear the noise of people playing basketball even at night.
- virgiliop732 (8/5): Cagayan de Oro-Camiguin Island Trip. - Best location to stay in the island where amenities are easier than south of the island located hotels. An 80's designed hotel but security is good.Rooms are quite small but with magnetic card door locks. No water heater. Two minutes walk to Jollibee fast food and five minutes ride to the central market.Local tourism authority is a 5 minute wakk.
- Maricon (7/5): Good - Value for.money .
- Li (9/5): Superb - Recommended for those who'll bring their work in Camiguin. Net connection is good considering I stayed in third floor and far from the hallway where modems are usually placed. Location wise, it is very convenient. Nearest food store that you can go to is the Jollibee and also the town's oldest snack bar - Viola's. Non-availability of hot water for bath
- LauCeleste (6/5): Clean room - The place is clean and AC is working. There is also running water which is also good. The CR is maintained well and staff were very accommodating and helpful. The front desk lady even help out in setting up a day tour. Amazing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location close to everything you need. Staff friendly. Great budget hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Gv - Good
- David (8/5): Affordable Hotel, safe clean - GV Camiguin Hotel was ok , clean safe comfortable. Great location. Affordable too. Giasano Mall is 5 minute walk.
Bathroom clean. Friendly staff.
Wifi is in lobby, other than that it’s ok.
- Zandra (10/5): - WE had to upgrade our rooms and instantly they gave us a new room and the staff was very nice too. I've been to a lot of hotels and this hotel was so nice for a 1 star. :)
- Herbert (8/5): GV Hotel Camiguin - My trip was fine and service was plesent. Everything I needed was within walking disrance. Staff was always helpful plesent.
- John (4/5): HMP Camigiun - Never done time in a prison, but the room was like a cell from the 70s Ive seen on TV, and the bed linen and towels may have been older and would probably get changed, unlike during my 3 night stay. However, it was cheap, so maybe you just get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A lot of Mosquitoes in the room but the staff attended our request to spray some insecticides.
- TripMakoy (8/5): Budget friendly - Great location, near to the public transport terminal going back to the port of Benoni. Near to the public market. This could be your option if budget is your priority. Booked a stay for PHP 500 for a fan room.
Internet service most of the time unreliable. Staff friendliness and helpfulness not consistent.
If you are the type of guest who would just want to get through the night for rest and not very sensitive, go for this.
However, stay option in Camiguin is wide and tricky. You could find a place with better service at almost the same price.
- ramboj19 (2/5): Great location, but dirty room - At first we booked for 1 night but because this the only hotel we know in the area, we came back, booked again for another night.
Pillows and mattress smells sweat! Really bad smell!
While checking in for our first booking, we asked Beth The Receptionist, where we can eat and how to get there, because we are starving! she just gave us a sarcastic answer! Wow! 😡😡😡. BETH SHOULD ATTEND A TRAINING RE:CUSTOMER SERVICE, and the way she asked for our ID really wow it was like we did something wrong!
We will comeback if the cleanliness will be part of their priorities!
- ghiar2018 (2/5): Dissapointed - Bad, defective lavatory and bowl and dirty CR. Doors broken locks. Not safe. Plus no customer service. Bad bad bad. Im so dissapointed. I cannot reccommend this hotel. Bad service. No customer service, dirty and deffective facilities. Not worth it. You cannot enjoy your vacation if you will stay here.
- Kathleen (8/5): - It was comportable
- Harold Kem (8/5): Good - Good
- groovyguyabano88 (6/5): Basic of basic - If you just want a place to put your head down, then this is your place. It's cheap and within the main town but farther from where most tourists stay (about 15 mins away). Main town meaning there are a lot of local stores around, groceries, market, and some food places. Your most basic room will come with a twin bed, a bed sheet (not a blanket), A/C, shower, some storage and a TV. Wi-fi is available in the lobby area but I think the connection was pretty slow. Dont expect anything fancy! Rooms are equipped with key cards also. It's also close to the airport which is good especially for the early flights out (like 3-5 mins away).
- spunky050713 (6/5): Good for budget traveler - I stayed in this hotel during my first two nights in Camiguin. My room has single bed, AC, TV, closet and a bathroom. If you're in a tight budget and you just want to have a place to sleep and take shower, then hotel is not a bad deal. However, it might get noisy because it's so close to the gymnasium, I'd experience it firsthand. Also, this place is a distance away from good restaurants in Camiguin. WIFI is available also in public areas.
- Herbert (6/5): GV Camiguin - Was pleased with my stay no complaints
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice stay - It was good for the price we paid
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No information about this town or arrears, where to go, the desk is no help or give mis information , no help to get to the ferry etc etc
- ANNA (2/5): - I did not like the hotel. Next to nothing. Cleaning Bed linen is not gray in the holes. It is for the lowly human. Price -quality did not coincide.
- jbernabat_8 (6/5): Hacks in staying in Camuigin with in a Budget - GV Hotels have allot of branches within Philippines and this hotel is located in the middle of Mambajao. There are food around when you get hungry and you can visit Vjandep and buy the famous fruit of Camuigin the lansones and since it is located in Mambajao you can visit the White Island. This place is that hard to find.
- Verified traveler (6/5): truly budget hotel for backpackers... - small room but fair enough for the price............
- ramel04 (6/5): For sleeping and taking bath! - This place is in the center of Mambajao. The room is ok quite old actually. Bed is ok mattress is a bit hard. The blanket is too thin.
Location is great. Easily accessible and easy to hail a motorbike or public transport. Cheaper to travel from here to anypoint in the island. I recommend this place if you are on a tight budget but want a comfortble and air conditioned place to sleep and take a bath.
- 221jakea (6/5): A place only to take a bath and sleep - we stayed here for 1 night, its was so noisy on our room as they are having basketball league at the back of the hotel. so we decide to just get a bike and explore the island. it seems to be safe with the security guard on duty day and night, he will also help you with the tour packages. they have motorcycles for rent.
the problem is it has only 1 power outlet im glad we bring our 3 way adapter.
bathroom is small also with a bit smelly bed.
- caprizircon (6/5): Budget Friendly - We took a weekend getaway to Camiguin. We were supposed to stay somewhere else, but there were complications, so the girls and I decided to stay at GV Hotel. We stayed in an air-conditioned room good for 3. They had a twin-bed and a single bed for less than a thousand. Everything is just average except that while I was having a night shower, the water stopped. We had to contact the front desk and fortunately, it just took a few minutes for the water to return.
There was only one socket to charge. The other one was for the TV so to charge two of our gadgets, we turned the TV off. The room was small but enough to sleep in.
- kalad_karen (6/5): Good for Budget Travelers - Our stay in GV Hotel Camiguin was okay. Good-size room, old TV with poor cable signal, wi-fi available only at the lobby, T/B okay with strong water, but customer-service is above-average. Their security guard was the one who assisted us with the tours. Location is accessible as it is in Mambajao - right smack at the center. Market and small groceries and pharmacy and bakeries are all within walking distance.
- Kai (8/5): About only budget hotel on Camiguin - Budget rooms are more expensive than its SE Asian neighbors, less quality and about 30% higher in cost. This place for a fan room, cable TV simple bathroom some leaks, very basic room but clean enough is about USD $12.
- Herbert (6/5): Okay - My stay was okay the staff was excellent
- arvinjayuy (6/5): Penny-wise but... - For some hotels or inns, low cost budget means low quality service. I sign myself to a non-AC room with only a fan to cool us off, I didn't have any choice since it was the only available room at that time. A room with two single beds, TV and a bathroom for only (P405.00). Expect that the room has only one electric plug with the TV on it, so always carry an extension plug for this kind of trip since we are in the modern times of technology. Service is very laid-back, the room has no towels, soap and trash bins, so do ask first before going to your designated rooms just to be sure. Still a very affordable price. AC rooms are just (P550.00) but all prices are subject to change.
- Darwin (6/5): camiguin is love - Gv hotel is quite a good place to stay if your looking for a cheaper accomodation.thou ther must some amenities of the hotel that the management should improve..
The staff was friendly..i like them. :'))
- JoyleneLove (4/5): A Place to Sleep in - The hotel is accessible to all the sites since it is situated in the heart of Mambajao. It's a cheap accommodation. There was no power supply when we got there. They turned on the generator when we started complaining about the heat in our room not to mention the darkness. The room smell of rust. The room was tidy and clean. The couple manning the front desk was of no help when we were asking for directions. The aircondition unit was noisy and vibrating. No hot shower but there's a television with cable channels. It's a decent place to stay if you are on a very tight budget.
- Prlakwatsero-Blog (8/5): Very Cheap hotel. - I choose to stay here because this hotel is very near in Plaza, Church, Market and the most tasteful Pastel of Vandep Restaurant. and most i like is its in the main road and in Mambajao Proper.Thumbs Up
- 551gilberte (6/5): Perfect for economical travelers: balance of budget and comfort - Just staying here for the night before I head off to Cagayan de Oro City. I was staying at Room 216 in a SINGLE BED, AIRCONDITIONED with a television. I find this far more comfortable than the non-aircon room I stayed in Jagna, Bohol at Elmars Pension. Bed there was hard but this was more softer and felt like a real bed. The aircondition is a plus! For PHP450, you get an airconditioned room with cable tv and a shower. No hot and cold though. SIgh.
My room is located beside a basketball gym so it can be quite noisy. So if you are spending in a minimal budget but atleast want to get some rest to rejuvenate from the dust on the road, take this.
Oh and by the way, no wifi at the rooms. Only at the lobby. Globe Telecom works best for internet if you can tether your phones. And yes, there's only 1 socket and that is for the tv. If you want to charge your devices, you have to compromise to turn off the tv and do something else.
- paulino636 (10/5): Superb budget option. Read my tips for a better stay. - Great value for the price paid. Aircon room in the middle of the city for 578 pesos? Sold! I gave a rating of five because of the value.
Read below for extra comments on eating options in downtown Mambajao.
If you’re reading this, you probably read some of the other reviews with some disparaging comments. Cleanliness of the room, number of electric outlets, bad Wi-Fi, bugs, etc. OK, yes, some of this is true, and I’ll address is below. This is quite normal in the Philippines if you have a tight budget. If this bothers you, stop being a wuss, or pay more for your room. And remind me not to go camping with you.
My room (#211) was clean throughout. There was some dust on the high up places, but everything else was acceptable. There were ants in the room, but they were just on the wall, and never made it on to the bed. I could not figure out what was drawing them, but they did not bother me. It’s fun to watch them, all marching in line.
There is only one electrical outlet in the room, and the TV is plugged into it. Combined with the fact the keycard provides electric to the room, I had a dilemma to plug in my gadgets and keep them charging while I was out of the room. Go to the front desk, give them 200 pesos + 50 pesos (a deposit) for an extra key card and wall outlet strip, and problem solved.
There is no Wi-Fi in the room provided by the hotel, but if you have a data plan for Smart, you are less than 75 meters from one of their towers. What that means is insanely fast Internet. I had my fastest download speeds in the Philippines because of this…in little Mambajao!
The aircon worked well. I had to adjust the dial because I was getting too cold. Only cold water showers. The only drawback to the bathroom was that the sink faucet leaked a steady stream, and I could not shut it off. There was no dripping sound.
The staff and security guards are chatty and helpful. Even though GV is a chain hotel in the Philippines, it does not seem that way. It’s very laid back.
You can rent a motorbike here for 500 pesos per day. That's higher than the average price, but it is convenient. If you don't mind riding, this is by far the most convenient, time-efficient, and fun way to see the island. I found my motorbike rental straight off the ferry by the Benoni port for 300 pesos a day for six days.
The hotel has some sundry items available for purchase, but if you need food, there are three main restaurant choices (other than the 3 bakeries that are open 24 hours…why the town needs that many, God knows!). All are within 15 minutes walking distance and are reasonably close to each to other. First, is Sector 9 Hotel’s restobar. Sector 9 is just under new ownership, but it seems like they’re aiming to be the main hangout joint in town with dartboards, pool tables, and a night club upstairs (I also stayed in their hotel for two nights). The other two restaurant choices are by the “parola”. A parola is winding staircase that goes around a pillar. It seems to be some kind of “budget lighthouse”. Well, right by the parola are Pedro’s Restaurant and Vjandep’s Restaurant. They are right across the street from each other. Vjandep’s gets my vote as the best restaurant in downtown Mambajao. Vjandep’s bakery (not in the restaurant, but a short walk) also sells a food item unique to Camiguin. They are these cupcakes called “pastels”. If you are flying out of the Camiguin Airport, the airport souvenir shop sells them.
- Otis_Bearclaw89 (2/5): Sleep Outside, In the street. - The room had one electrical socket for the TV and one for the AC. You had to put the room key in a slot under the AC in order for it to work. No remote for the TV. The floor was softer than the bed. The absence of an elevator isn't that much of a concern for me because I don't mind walking, but if you do the stairs for the floors are offset. You get up to the second floor and have to go down a hall to get to the stairs that lead to the third floor. I wasn't expecting a top notch hotel but for 570 plus a 200 peso deposit they could have given us a drink and chips. I can think of more to say but I will leave it at this. It's outside with a CR.
- belgianguy1 (6/5): Tired looking budget hotel - Well located and inexpensive
But a bit tired looking, the whole building could use a make-over
I had a single room with ac and cable tv for 450 p, i guess that's as cheap as it gets in the philippines...there was also room listed for 350 p with fan, but it never was available, i checked it every day
However, the room became unbearable hot during a power cut, and they weren't in any hurry to fire up the generator...the window could not be opened!
There are nearby food options, like the restaurant on the corner on the main road, just 100 meters or so...downtown is within walking distance, and for some reason there are many bakeries, open 24 hours...
