Guest Reviews
- Victoria (9/5): -
- Rita (10/5): Robert was very accommodating and very hospitable. - Secluded away from traffic noise Needs some improvements especially in shower
- Sarah (8/5): Cozy little room for a short stay - The room was very cozy, the host was exceptionally, friendly, and accommodating. The breakfast was amazing. While the room was cozy and decorated beautifully, the room is also outdated. Very few electrical outlets. I never found the coffee maker that I thought was in the room and there is no refrigerator. I never was able to get hot water to come through the bathroom sink.
- Jennifer (2/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): A surprising little gem with refreshing old school hospitality - Innkeeper was very hospitable. Room was warm, clean and cozy. We will return. Our stay was too short, we will return...
- Alison (8/5): Relaxing and pleasant! - Staying at Inn on the Rio was a very comfortable and private experience. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the accommodations felt cozy and well cared for. Breakfast was excellent—fresh, homemade, and prepared by the owner using their own in-house recipes. The owner was really friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for a relaxing and personal stay. We were looking forward to certain amenities, such as the hot tub, which were unfortunately out of service during our stay, especially after long days on the slopes. The owner did apologize for the misunderstanding, which we appreciated. Overall, it was still a pleasant and relaxing stay.
- Polly (8/5): - Cute decor and wall paintings. The location was beautiful. The breakfast breads were very yummy. For me personally, the bed was too hard. Also, some of the decor on the walls could use a dusting.
- Mick (8/5): -
- Alan (8/5): Enjoyable with an excellent breakfast - Breakfast was very good. Need more outlets for charging phones, etc
- STEVE (7/5): FOR THE PRICE IN TAOS ITS WHAT YOULD EXPECT NICE COZY LITTLE SPOT - IT WAS A COZY ROOM .SHOWER NEEDS WORK COMFORTABLE BED BATHROOM NEEDS AN UPDATE NO AC . AND A BARKING DOG BEHIND OUR ROOM KEPT US FROM GETTING A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP
- Linda (8/5): -
- Julie (7/5): I’d stay there again. Good property. - Quiet. Comfortable. Clean. Breakfast was served a bit late for early risers/travelers.
- Theresa (10/5): The best place to stay. GOD BLESS the owners - Really enjoyed staying there owners were the best, there for us every time we needed something. We are planning to go stay there many more times. It was clean and very quit and easy to find and to get to town to do things. na
- Britton (10/5): -
- teal (9/5): Lovely rustic setting that includes everything needed for comfort. - Excellent breakfast. Friendly, accommodating host. Comfortable room.
- Audrey (10/5): - I can’t speak to breakfast because I had to leave early for work, but I saw that it was ample and cozy This was a perfect stay for me, I had the best night’s sleep I have in years.
- Ostlie (10/5): -
- Richard (9/5): Robert was an excellent host! - Great location! No refrigerator in the room
- john (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): We shall return again! Excellent experience. - Wonderful location! Hospitality was exceptional!
Cozy and comfortable! N/A
- Roseann (8/5): - Hot tub available, comfy bed, southwest theme carried throughout, great value, delicious breakfast, helpful host.
- Robin (8/5): - Individual style No coffee in room
- Cliff (10/5): Enjoyable. - Grrrrrr-reat! The entry cement/ parking area could be redone.
- Zohra (10/5): Great location and breakfast. Cozy room - The property is very well located, maintained with very nice owners. We loved the breakfast and wish we stayed longer! We will definitely come back!
- Kristopher (9/5): Enjoyed it - Breakfast > hot tub > quiet and the wind in the trees N/A
- Lynne (8/5): - Breakfast was lovely! Robert was a wonderful host… thank you! Shower stall was quite confined and a grab bar would be good for safety as the threshold to step over is high.
- Cathy (10/5): Wonderful stay with gracious hosts in a truly unique property. - We really enjoyed our stay.I was enchanted as soon as I arrived. There were two buildings in adobe style, with a total of 12 rooms. The decor both inside and out, was wonderful, all hand-painted, and reflective of Taos. The breakfast was freshly made. The menu consisted of an egg dish, a coffee cake, fresh fruit, cereal, homemade bread, juice, coffee and tea. It was all self serve on small locally made pottery plates The breakfast room was small, which encouraged the guests to interact with each other.
Our host was knowledgable about Taos and the surrounding area. He made very good suggestions about places to eat, routes to take to see the fall foliage, and things to do in town.
I would highly recommend staying here to enjoy the feeling of living in a typical Taos home. nothing
- Michael (7/5): - The host was very nice and accommodating to our needs. The property is a little run down.
- Hull (10/5): - So quiet and peaceful. Great location in the oldest part of taos' residential area, yet a few minutes to the plaza and restaurants. A few minutes from the national forest.
The room was beautiful in southwestern Adobe style and colors .And the owners were so gracious and courteous and their staff too! And can't forget their cat "Miss Kitty" who would greet us when we sat outside our room to enjoy the views and peace or for a swim!
It felt like home away from home and will definitely be our go to place!!
- Tomas (8/5): Very enjoyable, Robert was kind, friendly and helpful. Loved the breakfast on Sunday morning. - quaint, comfortable, quiet. few too many bugs from trees on our last evening.
- Karl (5/5): -
- Karen (10/5): - The facility was a delightful surprise, a unique and comfortable setting. The manager Robert was charming; he definitely made me welcome. My morning was rushed, but the yummy bread got me started! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Walter Dana (10/5): -
- M (6/5): Enjoyed it all except for the cold water issue. - No hot water until the day we left. Lukewarm water day one. No hot water at all day two until after breakfast.
- Silvina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sheri (10/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Beautiful grounds, great location, breakfast, host very helpful Needs some updating, not enough plugs for electronics, small bathroom however had a vanity in bedroom
- Joerg (8/5): Very good - Innkeeper Too Epen for what it is
Pool was not open
hot tub was open, but jets did not work
- Joanne (9/5): Great out of the way place to stay with real hands on owners. - Very quite. A real throwback to the good old days. We loved the owners. The really fresh breakfast was absolutely delicious.
- Lyons (10/5): Loved our stay and conversations with the owners - It was a pleasant place to be and the owners were interesting and did a fantastic job of breakfast. The pillows were too hard!
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Diane (5/5): The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, but the B & B needs some “sprucing up.” - I liked the breakfast, but my significant other doesn’t eat peppers, so he didn’t eat the egg dish. I thought it was delicious. I also liked the coffee cake. He didn’t. I needed to plug in several things to recharge overnight. I couldn’t use the outlet in the bathroom without leaving the light on in there. I tried using the outlet by the front window, but the outlet was so loose that the plug fell out. The towels were very thin. The bathroom was cold. Everything in the room was very dated. Also, we did use the hot tub, but the jets didn’t work.
- Lani (9/5): Superb -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Sean (10/5): Hidden gem in Taos with the best service and charm - Great location, not far from town but far enough away to feel mostly quiet and secluded. Charming decor and well maintained. King room was plenty big enough and very comfortable - bathroom a little small but not an issue. Hot tub was great! Lobby was so cozy. Only complaints were there was some dog barking late at night behind the hotel but wasn’t bad when the windows were closed and was only temporary.
- Caleb (8/5): Great value, great host - Robert at the front desk was the highlight of our stay. He had great recommendations for local activities, and best places for parking. Robert was conversational and kind as well during the breakfast offering.
The motel was very in touch with the local aesthetic and very cute. The beds were unfortunately not very comfortable.
- Karthik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jerry (9/5): Restful and relaxing. The owner was extremely helpful. - The location was good. The owner did a great job of answering all my questions, and providing a guide experience of directions around town and places to go based on my needs. A good place to stay overnight. Perhaps pillow top matresses. A few more breakfast options.
- Dinkel (9/5): Superb -
- Jasen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kendell (7/5): Good -
- Jason (9/5): Amazing hospitality, Taos Style Inn that produced a wonderful breakfast. - Robert and Jules were exceptional. Amazing hospitality and it was great to have a change from the large hotels. This place is unique and provides an atmosphere that is welcoming, homely and relaxing. Robert was an amazing inn keeper who was very helpful and a delight to get to know. Poor WiFi / internet connection.
- Bob (9/5): Stay Here - Jules and Robert were great especially Robert this time who makes an excellent breakfast and provided us with good insight on what to visit and how to get there. Nice property and welcomed hot tub. Loyal cat Ms. Kitty is a great greeter. Room had everything we needed, and I’m sure Jules and Robert coukd provide extra assistance if needed. In a rural location, so can get a little noisy with dogs barking and roosters crowing. Across the street cement plant gets going at 8. Didn’t notice any noise from the plant except for the cement trucks. Internet coverage can be a bit spottty.
- John (7/5): Good -
- Lamia (9/5): The manager was excellent and helped answer all our questions - Clean, comfortable and good location Love to have a coffee maker
- Helena (9/5): Superb - The hot tub was lovely, the bedroom was great. It would be good to have tea and coffee in the bedrooms. It's a British thing to do, and it's a nice thing to have.
- Cecelia (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (9/5): Great setting with super owners - Robert was very helpful and kind. He picked me up from the Pueblo as there were no taxis available. We enjoyed the hot tub and breakfast
- Chuck (9/5): Wonderful Taos-style B&B with excellent innkeeper! - This is a wonderful B&B in Taos style. Robert was one of the best innkeepers we have experienced. He genuinely got to know us and provided thoughtful guidance and care throughout our several-day stay. I was pretty beat at the end of each day (doing a painting workshop in remote mountain areas), so the hot tub was very welcome. Breakfasts were really excellent and we enjoyed the engagement with other guests. This is probably on us because we didn't just ask, but we didn't have clean towels or linens, nor have the trash taken out during our six day stay. This was not a huge deal, and we would definitely stay here again, just be more assertive about this matter.
- Mark (8/5): Overall great stay and convenient to Taos and vicinity. - Great breakfast, but accessibility getting onto the road was a bit difficult due to limited visibility of on-coming traffic. Internet connection was spotty.
- Dennis (8/5): Need some updating -
- Susan (10/5): Would stay here again. - Room was very nice with comfortable beds. Breakfast was lovely. The shower
- Britney (4/5): Lots of potential but very outdated and not very clean. - Very friendly and welcoming couple. Spiders and bugs all in my room, cobwebs everywhere, barking dog all night directly behind my room.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Yates (7/5): Staff was friendly and helpful. - Flowers outside were nice. I enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Breakfast was very good. The room was a little too hot. old carpet on floor looked wore out.
- Lanicek (10/5): Wonderful owners, delicious breakfast, great location! - We loved staying at the Inn on the Rio! Breakfast each morning was amazing! Healthy, filling, and delicious! We had read online that the pool wasn't working, but it was, so we were able to enjoy that one of the warmer afternoons as well as the hot tub.
The location was perfect - both in Taos (near the Plaza, but not right on top of everything) and in NM (we did several ay trips to Santa Fe, Chimayo, Abiquiu, Carson National Forest, and Taos Ski Valley), so Taos was great! We felt like were in a secluded location with a lovely view of the mountains over the lush gardens.
Robert and Julie were friendly and endearing as innkeepers. Miss Kitty (the Inn cat) was welcoming and charming, but since she's not allowed in the rooms, she's not imposing.
When we arrived after driving 12 hours, Robert gave us several suggestions for local eating. We tired all of them during our stay and all were great!
Checkout on our last day couldn't have been easier, even though we were leaving very early in the morning. Everything was terrific! No complaints! The only complaint is about a noisy neighbor (loud trucks), which is out of the control of the owners... not their fault at all!
- Lynne (8/5): We had a wonderful visit - The hosts were great! Just a bit dated
- Laurie (10/5): Wonderful experience and we plan on coming again in the future. - Beautiful and relaxing 💖 A portable fan in our room.
- Kathy (8/5): We would recommend staying here in your next visit to the town. - We loved the setting. The history of the buildings. The breakfasts were amazing.
- Butler (10/5): I would definitely recommend the Inn on the Rio! - The breakfasts were delicious — homemade crust-less quiches and bread for toast, yummy sweetbreads, and fresh fruit and juice. Just what we needed to start our days off well! The key to our door was a bit sticky, but Robert, the owner, helped us with it. No problem. He was very gracious and friendly.
- Ross (10/5): We especially enjoyed chatting with our host. He made every effort to make our stay most enjoyable. - The breakfast was the best we ate on our whole trip throught many states.
- Vicki (10/5): Exceptional - The atmosphere of the Inn...each room has their own decorative scene on the ouside...very homey feeling. Nothing, everything was good for our 2 night stay.
- Todd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (8/5): Delightful and old charm place wth lots of character and lovely staff. - Lovely breakfast, adored the homemade quiche and bread. Dining room delightful with roaring fire and Easter decorations. Plumbing in bathroom was old
- Bc (9/5): Superb - Host Robert was great. Breakfast quiche and coffee was excellent. Rooms were a little tight with two beds...and the shower was really tight..but clean and no issues with hot water. Rustic and a good value overall...and Roberts restaurant suggestions were on point
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juliana (10/5): Loved my stay at Inn on the Rio , planning on coming back!! - I did like the style of this hotel, not your traditional/typical fancy hotel-resorts. Loved every detail in the room. The owners have put a lot into it and it feels welcoming and cozy.
Inn on the Rio is very well located, just a mile out of downtown Taos, it’s quiet at night. You could walk to downtown if you want to and the drive is just 3 minutes. Taos ski Valley is just 30 minutes from the hotel. Breakfast are delicious and quiches are yummy and nutritious. Fresh food for a fresh start of your day, loved it.
Pool is closed for the winter but hot tub was open, pool towels available, nice to relax after a skiing day.
Robert was very welcoming and great to talk to. We arrived late at night after check in and it was very easy to coordinate with him details for our arrival. He did also gave us great recommendations for food around town. Miss kitty was also a highlight of our trip, such a friendly cat!!
- Steve (10/5): Great spot for a weekend getaway! - Good breakfast, friendly and helpful owner, quiet location.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yana (10/5): really liked the hotel, especially the hot bath and the delicious breakfast. -
- Pamela (10/5): This is a lovely place and the owners are very friendly and helpful! -
- Jeannie (8/5): Great breakfast and affordable place to stay in Taos - The breakfast was the best part of the stay - homemade and yummy! Home baked bread and egg casserole. It was also nice to be able to soak in the hot tub after a long hike. :) The hosts were welcoming. They have a cat on premises and the cat would run into our room when we opened the door. I had to crawl under the bed and get her out twice, which is a bummer because I am allergic :(. Also, it would have been nice to have a mini-fridge in the room at least. No coffee maker or microwave either. The office closes at 7pm so we weren't able to get ice or ask to borrow a wine bottle opener, etc.
- Lewis (8/5): Very good - The cat and friendliness of owner and the decor Wish he had made extra muffins at breakfast. They were delicious >
- Neal (1/5): trip back into time - fresh made egg dishes were nice. where would i start? towels 25 years old...threadbare, dirty off white....actually disgusting. dirty bathroom grimy, this is a 50's vintage hotel...never remodeled. . shower practically non-functional. kitty out front was friendly as was manager/ owner? hair dryer worked intermittently. outlets are so old, wouldn't "hold" a plug. parking lot needs some pavement....one side of circle drive was washed out with large rocks showing, wonder how a sedan would get up hill.....
there is a reason no cancellations when booking....when you arrive you realize you have "been had". dont remember what pictures were posted on booking site, but it was a shock to see our room. nice touch was barking dogs every morning from the east. hate to write such a review but the place is misadvertised....a ripoff.
should have just left early and tried to get some kind of refund....but didnt want to fight for it.
- Alpha (5/5): Passable -
- Lindsay (9/5): Superb -
- Shmuel (6/5): Very nice 3 star accommodation - staff and design for "how it feels" in room and in lobby not as romantic as expected, more a basic place, breakfast was nicer than usual, but still almost continental.
- Arthur (9/5): Nice place to stay for a visit to Taos - Robert is a great host. He also prepares wonderful breakfasts for guests usually a quiche or other egg casserole with freshly made bread, fruit as well as coffee and tea.
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb - Robert was great. Loved staying there. Breakfast was homemade and good. Will stay there again
- Ruth (10/5): Good management, good food. - The breakfasts were excellent every day. Robert was very nice and accommodating. It would have been nice to have a bit more room, but it worked for us.
- Nancy (5/5): Passable - They have a nice cat. Breakfast was good. No coffee in room. Loud gravel business across the street. Hot water intermittent in shower.
- Tom (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was delicious.
- Judy (10/5): Relaxing place to stay - Very peaceful, great host
- John (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was delicious. Hosts were very accommodating and pleasant. Room was immaculate and nicely decorated. Lack of air conditioning.
- Greg (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was amazing! The place was unique and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again!
- Don (8/5): Great breakfast, friendly staff awesome swimming pool - Small motel, clean and well maintained Lots of dead limbs hanging over the pool and courtyard / sitting area
- Anonymous (10/5): Pleasant experience if you want something different. They make you feel like family. - Great owners, hospitality and breakfast. Needs AC.
- Rowland (9/5): Robert and Jewell are lovely hosts, and we thoroughly enjoy talking with them over breakfast. - Breakfast was excellent. The food is fresh and delicious every morning. Limited number of electric outlets to use for chargers in the room.
- Hans (8/5): Very good -
- Heidi (10/5): Exceptional -
