Guest Reviews
- Mr Neil R (4/5): Ruined by the bedding - The hotel now use paper bedding, sheets and duvet covers . They are horrible.
- Philip (8/5): Handy stopover with excellent restaurant - Welcome was good and good hospitality throughout our stay. Comfortable room and bed. Shower was clean and effective. Carpet a bit past its best, a few old stains. Restaurant excellent, limited menu but top quality
- Nigel (8/5): - We have visited a few times in the last few years and always enjoy being here. The setting is beautiful with running water and ducks and swans, and the old mill in the background. The paper sheets were new to us - my wife found them strange, but they felt nice and comfortable to me. We were disappointed that the bar and restaurant were not open at the beginning of the week, but this gave us a chance to revisit old friends elsewhere. This is still a very nice hotel to visit for a quiet relaxing stay.
- David (6/5): Overnight Stay - Felt the hotel needed to rethink its priorities, ie the room was beautifully furnished but the bathroom needed some work to bring it up to standard. Money appeared to have been spent on the unnecessary things. I do feel disposable quilt/pillow covers was not up to standard for a hotel such as this. It would have been nice to have had coffee making facilities. The breakfast provided was lovely, if a little over the top and wasteful of produce.
- Barbara (10/5): - A great find near to Calais. It's the first hotel I've been awaken by ducks swimming by our window. Had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good. Managed to communicate using my years old my high school French. Definitely would go back.
- Stewart (8/5): Not quite as expected - Firstly the main image is a little misleading since this is of the adjoining restaurant and not the accommodation which is a more modern building situated next door. Possibly some of the rooms are in the older building but this is not clear. Certainly our buffet style breakfast was served in the more modern building and we had no cause to visit the other building (the restaurant being closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I believe although this was advised in advance of our stay, once we had booked).
The reception area appeared somewhat disorganised and the rooms although clean were showing their age and require at least decorative updating.
Breakfast on the other hand was good with fresh bread and croissants plus a modest buffet with a good selection of the usual fare. Overall perhaps a little over priced.
- Jamie (4/5): - Nice staff and really excellent breakfast but had to drive to dinner as Hotel restaurant closed on Monday and Tuesday. We wouldn’t have booked if we’d known. As it was we had an excellent dinner at the local Najeti Golf and have booked in there for the return in a couple of weeks.
Also Moulin has paper eco and clean bed sheets which was weird and one tiny pillow each which presumably suits some people.
- William (10/5): Lovely hotel - Great as always but 8am breakfast on a Sunday means we had to forego it or miss our ferry. But in all fairness we did get a refund with a smile.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Speechless! - This was our second visit to the hotel, having enjoyed a previous one night stopover 'en route' to Calais. However, the new management's decision to use paper (eco) bed 'linen' was astonishing - and very disappointing. The ambience of the room was transformed to that of a hostel.
- Ann&Toby (8/5): Beautiful hotel in a lovely setting - This is a very beautiful and peaceful place to stay, near to Calais. It is hard to believe how rural it is given the surrounding industry.
The rooms are lovely, the setting is great and the breakfast was excellent.
Our only complaint was that after we had booked a stay with dinner they decided to close the restaurant on 2 days a week. The recommended alternative (the golf club) served lovely food but service was painfully slow and disorganized.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic comfortable facility excellent restaurant - Lovely setting on river with ducks and geese. Excellent restaurant in the adjacent old water mill. Room basic but comfortable.
- henry (6/5): Disappointed - We arrived and were very happy with our room but very disappointed that the Resturant was closed. ( I think due to staff shortage) we chose this hotel as after traveling the last thing you want to do is get back in your car and drive! We were directed to a golf Resturant which was good but would much have preferred to sit quietly by the mill stream which was really beautiful.
The breakfast the next morning was really good and would stay again if Resturant was open.
- Dave (8/5): Pleasant quiet old mill hotel, - This is a good quiet country hotel and excellent restaurant in a old mill and ideal for a short break.
- ian (10/5): Gem of a hotel - Clove this hotel, it's quiet and out of the way. Not to far to local village and supermarket but you need a car. Other than that cannot fault it. Great staff, great food and drink and really comfy beds
- Richard (8/5): - Nice Hotel
- Andrew (10/5): - Excellent position and setting we really enjoyed our stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice clean room with a great view
Bathroom basic and very annoying that there was no shower head fixing above the taps so that you could have a stand up shower
- Daseseong (10/5): - Nice people and so beautiful view.
Delicious breakfast!!
- David (8/5): Attractive facility in a charming location - We arrived mid afternoon after a 90 minute drive from Dunkirk. The French roads were excellent - but it might have been difficult without a good "satnav". First impression of the Mill buildings was favourable and it remained so for the two day stay. The staff were welcoming and we managed very well with our limited French and their limited English. Our room was large with a lovely view of the river and the surrounding habitat. Our visit was primarily to visit a WWI memorial and the hotel's location proved to be excellent for this purpose..
- Bernard (10/5): Delightful hotel not too far from Calais - No problems - but please be aware that the wine in their restaurant is very expensive.
- eddie (10/5): Lovely hotel in a beautiful location - The hotel sits in a lovely setting over a river. There is also a very good restaurant in another building and the food was superb.
- Philip (8/5): Great place to start your journey for longer trips - Excellent location as a staging post, around 35 minutes from Calais. Staff were very helpful. Rooms are a reasonable size and the bed was comfortable. Restauarnt serves great food at reasonable prices. Wine is a touch expensive but not enough to stop you having a bottle of decent wine with your meal. Reception doesn't open until 1700 which can be a bit of a bind but, to be fair, we have arrived earlier than that on 2 occasions and the staff have always checked us in on arrival.
- Martin (8/5): Excellent position - Riverside Hotel - We have stayed at this hotel several times, and have anjoyed our stay each time. The restaurant food is excellent, some of the best food I have tasted. The evening meal that we had last time we stayed was superb. The owners and staff are all very friendly, and make you feel very welcome.
We would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
- Rudolf (10/5): A Lovely Mill Hotel - Hotel good value for money, practical no unnecessary fancy bits.
Very good restaurant for the money.
- Keith (8/5): - Stopover stay only for bed and breakfast, lovely views
- Paul (10/5): Couldn’t fault it. - This is a perfect stop en-route to the ferries or tunnel at Calais. The welcome was warm, the room and view lovely and the dinner and breakfast excellent.
- Stuart (8/5): Easy stopover near Calais - Wine list a bit pricey but the food is superb. Great breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice peaceful weekend break - Lovely, peaceful setting, beautiful hotel. Lovely view of the river which ran under the hotel. Food good, breakfast excellent for a continental breakfast. Rooms could do with a makeover, the extra dressing room was extremely handy - the shower was a bit tricky though need to install a proper shower. Wine extortionate 50 euros for an average bottle of wine is too expensive.
However, we were made very welcome and the staff were very friendly.
- Kathy (8/5): Nice hotel for a quick stopover to the Port. - There was a small bottle of water in room and no where to get refill or coffee until the bar opened at 6.30.pm Perhaps have that facility in the reception? Breakfast expensive for just cold meat, coffee and croissants but ok.
Restaurant expensive but very good and the staff lovely.
- Christine (10/5): Lovely location close to car ferry - Warm welcome - comfortable room - superb and delicious dinner - good breakfast
- Andrew (8/5): - Hotel ideally placed for access to Calais - it was low season (November) so a bit lonely!
- William (10/5): Always excellent! - Always excellent. We travel to and France 2-3 times per year and inevitably stay overnight in this excellent hotel. The food is exceptional. We have yet to have the same menu on any of our stays. We have the set menu as we always get a demi pension deal and it's always superb. This is really a comfortable welcoming family run hotel.
- Tom (8/5): Comfortable Hotel in rural location. - Freindly hotel in remote rural location. Not many alterntives for eating near by so recommend half bosrd deal because restuarant is good but expensive.
- Rosemary (8/5): A good staging post 30 minutes from Calais. - This is a nice hotel with a good restaurant, run by friendly people. We have stayed there a lot and will return when we go to France. It was refurbished some time ago and is a bit dated, but the rooms are quite spacious, very clean with excellent bed linen and nice bathrooms. The showers aren't ideal but there is lots of hot water. We like the fact that there is a Leclerc supermarket fairly close where one can fill up with cheap fuel and shop before hitting the Eurotunnel.
- Peter (10/5): - Great welcome despite being very early in afternoon. Waited with a drink until hotel opened around four and delighted with the mill and river setting which our room overlooked.
- P G (10/5): Returning from vacation - Beautiful setting, large grounds with walks around the mill and mill stream, perfect for our dogs at this "pet friendly" hotel.
The excellent restaurant is located in the old mill building offering a la carte and a set menu, prices are reasonable for this standard of establishment.
The location is also perfect for access to channel crossings, 35 minutes drive to the Eurotunnel and a few minutes from the A26.
Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel will use again - This Hotel is extremely nice a very tranquil place to stay my only criticism is the food we had dinner there on the first evening and the food was very poor the squid starter was overcooked and like rubber and my expensive steak was one of the worst i have ever had We will stay there again but not eat there again
- Graham (10/5): - Beautiful setting
Limited choice on the evening menu, food a bit on the expensive side.
Good parking
- Richard (10/5): Excellent for ferry stop over! - Conveniently located about half an hour from the port at Calais plus not too far from the motorway and a change from the usual chain hotels. Easy to find (plus not far from a large supermarket gas station)! Our room was actually over the river and was spacious and clean. Breakfast was good and we were able to make an early start, to have been at the same point we would have had to have left home at 5am - never a great start to a holiday! TIP: make sure to phone the hotel as detailed on booking confirmation - reception closes early and you could find yourself locked out! We had phoned in advance and were given the door code and our room key was waiting on the reception desk.
- Mrs Susan M (10/5): Beautiful setting - We loved this hotel and the setting. The room was very comfortable and quite large. The only complaint was no tea or coffee making facilities. We had a very good dinner in the restaurant although it is on the pricy side (especially the wine). Breakfast was very good too.
We did struggle to find it as our Sat Nav did not recognise the name of the road. The staff were very friendly and we would definitely return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A hidden gem - We had a great welcome and the staff were lovely. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The real treat for us.was eating a the restaurant. The food was excellent, the service was great. A lovely way to celebrate our anniversary. Breakfast the next.day.was.one.of the best we have had and well worth the money. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
- Hans (10/5): Comfortable stay in beautiful setting. - Had a great relaxing short stay at this location. Beautiful setting, great breakfast. Room was clean and adequate. We'll stay there again on our way back.
- ian (10/5): Special Location - This is a special hotel, staff are excellent and the location superb. You have the perfect mix of old and new. Sitting on terrace next to the river on a summer evening is very special. My only negative is a personal thing really, the resturaunt is far to posh for me. I prefer pub type food, this is getting on for fancy restaurant with prices to match
- Carl (10/5): Perfect Hotel - I almost didn't want to give this place a review, as I'd much prefer it stays our little secret! Le Moulin de Mombreux is a perfect hotel, our room was very clean and very spacious, the evening meal (which was included in our tariff) was excellent, one of the best meals we've ever had in a restaurant) and the breakfast (also included in our tariff) was also very very good,
The setting is lovely, you could spend hours just watching the geese swimming up & down the river straight outside your bedroom window.
Such a perfect way to spend our last night in France after a lovely trip down to the south of France, only 40 minutes to the Tunnel crossing, no other words but perfection, we know we will be returning, thank you very much to all the staff.
- James (10/5): A great stop off to and from ferry ports. - Excellent location for ferry ports. An old mill converted into a restaurant and hotel. Staff extremely friendly and professional. We had an excellent evening meal with great service, although the set menu may have been a bit restrictive for some. A good nights sleep in a very pleasant room in a country setting with lovely shaded gardens.
A very good breakfast (although a little pricey) 13 euros. Will definitely use this stop off again.
- carl (8/5): Europe trip - Stayed one night and it was worthwhile , room was fine with. Beautiful view of river and water mill from our room. This hotel has a fantastic restaurant with great food and lovely staff. The owners of hotel were very friendly and helpful and I will return when in this area.
- Daniel (10/5): Super - Lovely hidden gem this. Great room very comfortable. Will certainly be back
- Linda (8/5): - A very pleasant stay en route to the tunnel. Rooms of a very good standard and value for money. Evening meal excellent, albeit the wine is quite pricey. A very good breakfast in the morning. We would stop there again.
- Trevor (10/5): A room with a view....and so much more! - The experience was great from start to finish. Stunning location, food and staff. A huge thank you and well done to all at the hotel for a fantastic stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Misleading location. - Dated bedroom. Separate loo from bathroom. Expensive restaurant for dinner and breakfast. No coffee making facilities in room. Located in an industrial area. Very misleading.
