I was very disappointed, as a hotel relais & chateaux should offer a consistent level of quality worldwide. This property clearly has not been renovated in the past 40 years—neither the interiors nor the beds, mattresses, linens, or furnishings.

The perfect location, the beautiful property and grounds and swimming pool, the best staff of any hotel we’ve stayed in and the best food of our entire 22 day France trip. Breakfast and dinner every day plus a couple lunches. I can’t say enough about the staff’s professionalism and kindness and willing to help us with every detail we needed. Nothing. I even liked the decor.

• Frank (10/5): The perfect Chateau in the perfect location - This is a serious venue. We were delayed on our way back from Valencia and had to cancel our original booking in Agen and stay at Carcassonne instead. They took our booking the same day which was handy. The Chateau is magnificent and the room was terrific. It was cold outside but the heating worked and the windows were tastefully double glazed. The bed was just the right size - not ridiculously big - and extremely comfortable. The chateau contained some unusual furniture and artefacts - see photo. Dinner and breakfast were first class. We should like to come back for a longer stay one day The only problem was that we were delayed, we had a ferry to catch and we thus couldn't visit the ancient walled town. This is not a problem with the property, though. The only thing to mention is that they have electric car chargers but they need to be booked ahead and we were too late. Something to bear in mind.

De faciliteiten mooie tuin, zwembad en restaurant aan de tuin en de kamer dichtbij waren voor ons ideaal met een hond en kleine baby. Het interieur is wat gedateerd maar de plek (tuin, buitenkant gebouw), service van het team en het eten en de goede wijnen en bediening aan het zwembad etc maakten het voor ons een hele lekkere locatie om te verblijven. Wij hadden zelfs nachten extra eraan toegevoegd.

Location is very good, we were only there one night and room was fine and comfortable but staff and especially in restaurant went out of their way. The food was excellent and amazing wine list. Worth staying just for that. Not much in the way of grounds or view and that might disappoint given pictures but would still really recommend.

• Linda (10/5): We will come back again! - Domaine D’Auriac perfectly combines old school charm with family like warmth. The building is beautiful and rooms are spacious. The owner and her family are around to attend to every details. Staff are superbly knowledgeable and helpful. The swimming pool is beautiful AND big with lovely environment. It is 5 mins drive to the Cite and yet feels like an oasis. Last but not the least, the restaurant is fantastic - authentic, innovative menu all reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
• Simon (9/5): Brilliant staff and exceeds expectations - Location was great for us. We didn't stay for breakfast. The room was lovely but a little tired, as were the bathrooms. We had dinner in the restaurant, the food and service was exceptional. As an overall package this Hotel was great, an oldy woldy charm with brilliant staff. It exceeded our expectations. Rooms and bathrooms in need of some refurbishment but its comfortable and clean. I guess the faded elegance is part of the charm.

• Christopher (8/5): Extremely comfortable in very good location to access Carcassonne, town and historic citadel. - Beautiful hotel, lovely garden areas, very friendly and attentive staff, food very good in bistro Breakfast was served but with no choice - just presented to you For such a high quality hotel it was disappointing that the Bistro was closed Wednesdays in high summer and only other dining available on site was very expensive (in our opinion) ‘gastronomic’ restaurant.

Level of room said a king size room yet bed was 2 single beds pushed together rather than a king size mattress. I pointed this out to staff after first night but nothing done to rectify. Bed not comfortable. we felt hotel was “tired” and in need of redecoration. Had dinner in restaurant on first night - chose meal with wines to accompany each course. Sommelier was very slow to offer wines and did not appear to be duly aware of what food we had chosen, was not keen to discuss wines with us and leaned over us when pouring wine!!

• Tracey (10/5): Lovely spot on a golf course outside Carcassonne - Lovely night at this hotel. The pool and grounds are beautiful and the restaurant is excellent. (Order the cheese for dessert. Seriously you won’t regret it!) Rooms are big, but the bathroom was not as clean as I would expect, given the Relais &Chateaux status. Staff are extreme friendly and helpful. We were travelling by bike and they were very accommodating - I imagine this would be a great place to stay if you like golf as there is a beautiful course on site.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Needs modernising - This hotel is ideally situated on the outskirts of Carcassonne and it is a short trip into the old city. However, the turning off the main road is somewhat sudden and a bit dangerous. We stayed 3 nights in early September, so just off the main season. The reception staff were lovely and very welcoming. In fact, they couldn’t be more helpful. The hotel itself was a bit tired and in need of a little updating. Our room was spacious and clean but some items of furniture were in need of repair and the WC door handle kept falling off! However, we had good views over the pool and we slept very well. On our first night we eat at the Bistro which we felt was very good value. We had the second night in the main restaurant which was expensive but very nice. A very good selection of wines. We enjoyed our stay but having been to other Relais and Chateau Hotels (Alsace especially) we were a little disappointed that it was not quite as luxurious as we had expected.

• Ashley (10/5): Lovely long weekend in the countryside - We had a wonderful stay. The room had very high ceilings and huge windows overlooking the grounds. I’m sure the pool is lovely in the summer. We took a walk down the river and were only a short drive from Carcassonne and all its great restaurants and sights. The hotel staff was beyond helpful and gave us loads of local recommendations.

• gita (8/5): What a room!!!! - The grounds of this hotel are beautiful. Hotel itself is a bit dated but nice, lobby is not impressive but all the other charming spaces overcompensate for it. Our room was amazing!!!!! Super high ceiling, beautiful decor and even though it's not a new hotel, it was super clean and crisp!!!! Yes, it didn't have shower, but the bath was HUGE, so we were fine w it.

• TIM (10/5): 5 Star Luxury with an amazing restaurant! - 15 minutes from Carcassonne Airport by car, a fine5 star hotel with first rate attentive staff and a fabulous restaurant! I can only recommend this hotel as my suite, the food, wine and attentiveness of the staff was truely first class. Marie-Helene will ensure that you are well looked after and her staff are excellent. The restaurant is exceptionally good however you can eat in your room or try out the Bistro if a la carte is not required and The Bistro offers excellent food especially their open fire flame cooked steak, I recommend this. The hotel has a superb pool in the garden to sunbathe around whilst the staff will bring out anything you want, the club sandwich contains excellent beef... or what ever you want. The location of the hotel is excellent as it is only a 10 minute drive to Carcassonne but perfectly situated for the rural beauty spots and villages of the Cathare countryside. In short a wonderful experience. Tim and Fi. (currently Birmingham).
• Verified traveler (6/5): Lovely old building & excellent restaurant - Care needed when booking if a shower is important to you. Unusually several rooms have a bath only. The Michelin starred dining room is one of the best we have eaten at. Dining room should be ranked higher than hotel. Most knowledgeable sommelier.
• Julia (8/5): Luxury hotel on the outskirts of Carcassonne - We stayed there as it was convenient to meet with friends. The garden was idyllic especially as it was so close to a busy main road. It was expensive - really a special treat. We had a great room - comfy bed, all the usual amenities, turn down service. The bathroom was spacious. The bar was pleasant and there are lots of little time out rooms one can wonder into so it feels quite homely. We did not use the restaurant at all. The dogs had a greta time but they cost alot to have htere too. We were not able to use the pool as it was still being cleaned in the morning which is a shame although the weather was not that great either.
• Joy (10/5): Excellent position and amenities - A little hard to find, but have asked management to add on their site - access off the golf course entrance, then no one should have any trouble arriving at the correct place. Marvellous staff, our room was delightful. The pool area was clean and inviting, the common rooms were quaint and a tour in themselves. Our bed and pillows afforded a comfortable sleep, with a turn down service complete with chocolates and a weather forecast. We dined at the 1Star Michillin restaurant (in the hotel) as we were delighted with the cuisine and wine. The service was impeccable. Staff were helpfully and engaging. Highly recommend this hotel.
